We had to wait over forty minutes in line to be assisted. They stated that our wording about the damage to our computer voided the accidental damage warranty that we had purchased. They were supposed to follow up with us and we have never heard back from them.

I would not recommend taking your computer to Geek Squad because I have heard almost nothing but bad things about them. It sounds really hit and miss with them. If you find someone who knows what they are doing and cares then the service is good, but more often than not it sounds like you run into employees that don't know what they are doing and don't care. They sound like they neglect standard operating procedures when working on computer hardware, like wearing anti-static straps before touching your hardware and backing up data before tampering with your hard drives. I'm not even sure they will backup your data before tampering with your hard drive. I think in their long contracts it requires you to do that and they don't tell you if you miss that.

This holiday season, Best Buy could be your worst "buy." I purchased a set of 2 Siemens brand telephone from Best Buy online. About 30 days into use I started to experience trouble. I went to a Best Buy store only to discover that merchandise must be returned within 15 days if it does not work. Fortunately or unfortunately, my $100.00 purchased last a whole 30 days. After an hour working with the service desk, a manager and on the phone with some Best Buy corporate office, I discovered the worst. I am stuck with poorly operating phones and no recourse with Best Buy. I have made my last purchase at Best Buy.
Description of Work: I purchased a set of 2 Siemens brand telephone online and was told, if needed, it could be returned to any Best Buy store. About 1 month after purchasing, phones started experiencing trouble. I went to the nearest Best Buy. After about an hour in the store with service desk, with a manager and on phone with Best Buy at some corporate office, I discovered the worst. Best Buy has a 15 day return policy. So, I took my poorly performing telephones home because Best Buy offered NO solution.

I was interested in a projector/screen purchase for our rec room. Best Buy said that they would send an experienced home theater specialist to my home to look at my space. I scheduled a Monday morning 8 a.m. appointment to take place 3 weeks after visiting the store. They said I was the first appointment of the day. However, the consultant was 90 minutes late. He came to our home and said we couldn't install any kind of home theater in our basement -- he just couldn't figure out how to make it work to get the electric and cable hooked up to a projector. I had the impression he had other things to do that day. No ability to problem-solve, come up with ideas. And for this I gave up my morning and $100.

I took back the wrong microwave to them, but I lost out on my discount it. I took the right one home, but it lasted only 3 months and they couldn’t take it back. I called the manufacturer. They were as bad as the store people, but they did send out a $10 gift card. The gift would apply if I bought another one like that, which I did from the Maplewood store. I found it was making some funny noises. The money they gave me for the microwave didn’t include recycling of it which is about $35, so I would never buy and LG again. The guy that sold it to me was very nice. When I went in there, the girl behind the counter was kind of sniggering and was very unhelpful about the discount coupon that I had. The service at Maplewood store was good, unlike the initial store I went to.
Description of Work: I bought a microwave from them 1 year ago. I got a second microwave from them because of a faulty initial one. I got a third one from the Maplewood store.

6 months after I purchased an HP Pavillion, the keyboard no longer functioned. I never could get HP to repair it under warranty. 1 year later, I took it to the Geek Squad and they repaired it in two days. 3 months later, it broke again and it turned out to be a loose cable and was repaired in a day at no charge. Excellent service from start to finish at less cost than they estimated it to be. I sent the broken keyboard to HP and asked for a refund but never heard a word. It is a great computer but had a flaw and HP has terrible service. But the Geek Squad is great.
Description of Work: repaired my one year old Hewlett Packard Pavillion laptop computer by replacing the keyboard.

I purchased a product and subsequently returned the product. The company owes me $333. They continually state that the refund has been issued to my credit card. I've checked with my financial institution and they have not received anything. This has been going on since mid-January 2009. Today is February 23, 2009. Still no refund. (The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota tells me that since Best Buy states, repeatedly, that they have issued the refund that there is nothing they can do to help me. I've also contacted the Kansas Attorney General, since that is where I live, and this just so happens to not fall within their ability to uphold the law.)

Will not use Best Buy/Geek Squad again. You can't get through on customer service line. They do not take responsibility for what they do. You can't get through sometimes to the main switchboard because they have such an overwhelming amount.
Description of Work: Repair was under warranty. They forgot stuff, locked me out of things, had to go back 2 or 3 times. I just wanted them to install Norton Anti-virus because my computer was getting real slow. They "cleaned" it up when I took it in under warranty, but when I returned home I found that they had closed certain systems, put in a user code for them to go into the computer that one man forgot to take out, so I had to go up there again because they were the only ones that could unlock it.

The purchase went very good. The delivery was good, and accommodating, as we delayed the delivery due to the remodel of the room it was going in not being complete. The only issue was with the installation. I was not clear on what the installation included, and the installers were not able to do everything I had expected to be done. What they did was good, but it still left me work to do to finish.
Description of Work: We purchased a 56" HDTV, home theater system, DirecTV/HD/DVR receiver, cabinet, and installation.

Poorly. I wanted to buy two more handsets for a 5.8 Ghz expandable system I purchased three years ago. Three different Best Buy employees told me that I could use any 5.8 Ghz Panasonic handset for an expandable system. They were wrong-only a certain model number would work with my existing system, and that model has been discontinued. They had me order the handsets online, which I had to return. I ended up buying a new system-but went to a different store due to my disappointment with Best Buy service people.

On 8/23/08, I placed an order on the Best Buy website for a washer and dryer. The delivery date was scheduled for 9/13/08. On 9/12, I received a phone call from the delivery people saying they weren't able to deliver the washer. They didn't know why, nor could they give me an estimate of when it could be delivered. They said I would have to call 888-BESTBUY to get that information. I called the number on 9/13. No one was able to give me an estimate of when it could be delivered, nor were they able to give me a definite reason about why it was undeliverable. Then I asked to simply cancel the order, after which I spent 1.5 hours with various customer service representatives, none of which could actually cancel my order. A representative from 888-BESTBUY asked me to call the distribution warehouse (352-379-8500) to cancel my order, which I did, and they said they were unable to cancel the order and redirected me back to the 888-BESTBUY number. After calling them a second time, I was referred to "Customer Relations" who told me that the person who could actually cancel my order "wouldn't talk to me because I didn't have the same last name as my husband's" (whose credit card was used in the purchase). Finally, after 2+ hours on the phone, I was able to confirm that my order was canceled. They gave the reason for the cancellation, that the item was out of stock and refused to acknowledge the real reason, their wretched customer service.

Not only did this company contact the wrong technician for my neighborhood to complete our job, but that technician canceled my appointment without calling me! Neither did the dispatch! No attempt was made to reschedule the appointment, and when I called the next day to get the situation handled, the company had no record of my so called confirmed Saturday appointment, complete with confirmation number, which by the way seems to belong to a case from 2006 in Kansas. So now they haven't shown up, called, and have no record of my "confirmed" appointment. I work from home, and the issues that I had turned to Geek Squad to help me with are causing me to not be able to work. I have explained this to customer service representatives, supervisors, upper level managers, and field dispatch agents. I have been promised return calls to keep me updated as to when a technician can be located to fix my issues and have never received a call. I have asked for a phone number at which to directly reach each of the Geek Squad representatives I have spoken with and have been consistently given numbers that are disconnected, or not in service. There has been no attempt made to waive a fee, or credit our new account for the time and energy I have spent in trying to find a technician to work with me. At every turn Geek Squad has been unhelpful, and has made my company and me feel discounted, passed over and unimportant. And this was our first experience! I can guarantee I will never call Geek Squad again, and never refer clients, friends or acquaintances.

Bought an LG Dishwasher from Best Buy in Olathe (but it doesn't matter where) in July '07. Pump went out 2 weeks before 1 year warranty (thank goodness I was covered). Tech came out, ordered new pump. Part came in, I rescheduled for installation. 3 appointments, each a week apart, all NO CALL, NO SHOWS. After each missed appointment, I called 1-888-BESTBUY who handles the scheduling of service calls, etc. Each time they gave me a new appointment (some 6-8 days ahead). Of course I was angry every time. Some system update glitch they said (each time). When the 3rd appt. was missed, I called Corp Headquarters in MN, spoke with an officer of customer service, Drew. He verified part was in and rescheduled another appointment for me. He said to call him personally if no one called or showed. Next appt., another no call/no show. I called Drew, no answer 2 times, left messages. Called 1-888-BESTBUY again, spoke with 2 more people, a supervisor, Chris, finally got through to someone in service center named Kurt who is a lead technician in KC area. Kurt relayed through Chris that he would call me back in 2 hours. Meantime, Drew from Corp HQ called me back and said they wanted to reschedule for 2 days from now. I said this was UNACCEPTABLE and I needed someone here today. He said he would find out and call me back. This is the latest update. I just wanted to get the word out before other people are duped into this scam. Other websites have similar stories by customers who have been jilted by Best Buy Service and extended warranty services on computers and appliances. Just Google it. It seems that a local appliance center, even if it costs more might be more reliable. Just check Angie's list first!

This was a trying experience from start to finish. Waited in a long line to drop off the computer. Work order said anticipated time of completion was 3 days, but the "agent" told me it would be seven. When I hadn't heard a word after 10 days, I tried to call. It was 3 more days before I could get anyone to answer the phone; after going through voicemail hell several times I finally called the store customer service and had them walk over to the service desk and tell someone to pick up. Was told the hard drive had failed and would be replaced, but they were unable to recover any data. While on the phone, agent said he just thought of something else he could try and he'd call back within an hour. Didn't call back. Someone else called the next day to say my laptop was ready for pickup and no data had been recovered. I then had a techie friend look at it and he was able to restore ALL the data files (he said it worked intermittently). I think Geek Squad did not try very hard.
Description of Work: Diagnose and repair laptop which would not boot; restore data. Laptop was covered by Best Buy service plan (I was reimbursed for the cost of repairs).

Our experience with Best Buy was ok. The sales reps are helpful when they are not busy, however they don't seem to know when a product that isn't in stock will be arriving. We actually wanted to purchase an advertised sale item, however it was out of stock and ended up going with the next item closest. We still had to wait to pick it up as well.

THE REPRESENTATIVE WHO CAME TO THE HOUSE WAS VERY NICE AND HELPFUL. GOOD OVERALL EXPERIENCE WITH HIM. HOWEVER, AFTER HE LEFT, OUR COMPUTER WAS DRAMATICALLY WORSE, WITH DIFFERENT PROBLEMS THAN IT HAD PRIOR TO THE VISIT. HOWEVER, IN MY FIRST CALL THE PHONE REP SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME FOR THE FOLLOW-UP (CORRECTIVE) VISIT AND WOULD NOT LISTEN TO OUR EXPLANATION THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM THEY HAD CAUSED IN THEIR FIRST VISIT. AFTER BEING ON HOLD REPEATEDLY DURING THIS FIRST CALL AND ASKING 3 TIMES TO SPEAK WITH A MANAGER, THE PHONE AGENT HUNG UP ON ME. WHEN I CALLED BACK, MY CALL WAS ROUTED TO A GEEK SQUAD LOCATION IN FLORIDA. I IMMEDIATELY ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A MANAGER AND GOT ONE ON THE LINE RELATIVELY QUICKLY. HOWEVER, HE WAS UNINTERESTED IN MY EXPLANATION AND WAS ONLY INTERESTED IN QUOTING ME A CHARGE FOR A FOLLOW-UP. I HUNG UP COMPLETELY DISSATISFIED. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

THE CONTACT PROCESS FOR THE COMPANY IS RELATIVELY SIMPLE AND AMUSING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS ON TIME AND VERY CAPABLE. THIS WAS A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I SPOKE TO THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE OVER THE COURSE OF A HALF AN HOUR AT MOST, NONE OF WHOM WAS ABLE TO GET THE PROCESS GOING. IN THE MIDDLE OF IT, I HAD TO RUN OUT AND GET AN INSTALLATION CD AT A LOCAL BEST BUY- STILL NO PROGRESS. FINALLY I WAS TOLD THAT THE ''CONCENSUS'' WAS THAT MY COMPUTER HAD A BAD MEMORY, SO ''GOOD LUCK.'' SINCE NONE OF THE SERVICES I HAD REQUESTED WERE PERFORMED, I ASKED ABOUT A REFUND AND WAS TREATED WITH EXTREME RUDENESS. THEY CLAIMED I HAD REQUESTED A DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE-I DID NOT. THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE READ A LIST OF TERMS OF AGREEMENT TO ME PRIOR TO THE START OF THE CALL-THEY DID NOT. AND THEY ACCUSED ME OF LYING WHEN I TOLD THEM I HAD HEARD NO SUCH DESCRIPTION. I LATER TOOK THE COMPUTER TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE MEMORY CARD ''COULD'' BE BAD BUT THERE WERE OTHER POSSIBILITIES AND NO WAY OF KNOWING WITHOUT A COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC. OVERALL, IT WAS A MISERABLE AND DISHEARTENING EXPERIENCE. MY ADVICE: AVOID THIS ORGANIZAT
