Josh arrived on time - friendly, good worker - communicated well, no surprises, did more than what was expected in making sure the roof cap wouldn't leak.

I contracted Mendota Electric to rewire an old single floor bungalow-type house in the St. Paul Mac-Groveland neighborhood. The electrical service had been upgraded from fuse to circuit panel by a previous owner but still had the original knob-and-tube branch circuits that were in declining condition. I hired Mendota based on their Angie's List reviews, the fact that they did a remodel for some neighbors, and because they could meet my scheduling needs. There were two slight communication errors in the whole process - both probably my fault. The first occurred after I had to reschedule the job start date. The message must not have been communicated from the shop to the field electrician because there was an unexpected knock on my door at 7am on a Monday. Long story short, we sorted the issue and were able to reschedule the job. The second issue was the scale of the job. Rick, the shop coordinator, had interpreted my description as rewiring a few branch circuits while the job was actually a full rewire of two rooms and partial rewire of two more. Upon arrival at the rescheduled start date, Josh the electrician quickly realized the job was bigger than expected and it would be a challenge to fit it in their fully booked schedule. Long story short, again - Josh worked like a mad man to fit the job into the time I had available. As for the actual work performed, Josh was efficient, very conscientious, accommodating, and creative in dealing with some unique structural characteristics of my old house. He consulted with me prior to dealing with any critical issues and was tolerant of my many inquiries. He was able to rewire into existing junction boxes so there wasn't any damage to the old plaster walls. The quality of the work was very good. Josh had to decipher the nebula of old wiring to make sure all of it was disconnected and properly replaced with updated cable. I found only two small issues that had to be corrected. Not a problem. To sum up, Mendota is very responsive, very punctual (even when you're not expecting it), extremely conscientious of their service, does good work, and I feel that I received value for the money spent. I will hire them again when the time comes.

They were very responsive when I needed them, but their price was high. I would use them again only if I had an emergency and could not get another Angie's List company.

If you need any electrical work done around your house, don't hire anyone but Mendota Electric. They are on time, efficient, honest and fair. I found them last year when they did all of the electrical work on my kitchen remodel. Josh was the one who did the work on both jobs. He did a beautiful job then and now. Mendota Electric is in my permanent file for electrical work. I will certainly be contacting them again as I continue to rebuild my house.

Rick Swanson responded to my initial inquiry very quickly and scheduled a site survey within a day or so. The estimate was detailed and received very quickly as well. On the scheduled day, Josh did exactly what was asked for very quickly and with a friendly attitude. He also did a good job cleaning up.

They were very good and the service went very well. Josh was the guy that came out. He did the indoor work before the outdoor work because he didn't want to get the house dirty. He was very, very good. Their prices were not the cheapest, but they were probably not unreasonable.

Because floor trusses run perpendicular to path of wire, electrician had to make a single 5" hole in ceiling to route wire. Job was completed quickly - about 1.5 hours - and with minimum evasiveness. Electrician was open to input and developed a good solution. I was able to schedule work 3 days out.

They were very helpful. They were charming. They were great to work with. They came and worked hard and they were on time. I felt very comfortable with the whole process.

Josh was prompt, personable and professional. He got right to work on the furnace, so we had very little time without heat. He had suggesttions on how to save money by re-using materials where appropriate, and also took time to answer our questions about future projects. And he completely cleaned up when he was done! A nice change from other contractors I have worked with.

They were very good at following up on questions and waiting for me to make a decision on what project I wanted to do first. They worked very well with my wife and I and did a great job. They were very respectful of our time and home and very efficient at the job at hand. I would use them again in the future. Very organized group of people.

Josh was super. The original "plan" for outlets was scrapped due to structural issues, and Josh was able to find a "solution" which worked out great.

Mendota Electric was very professional when I called for service, and was able to come out the next day to fix our problem. They sent an experienced electrician who checked out what needed to be done, explained what would be re-wired and load rebalanced, and made it clear exactly what work was being done. He then proceeded to do it in a very timely manner, and completed the job within 2 hours. He was very professional and courteous in his manner. I am the daughter of elderly parents who called for service and wanted to make sure my parents were not taken advantage of by a service provider. I was very pleased with their professionalism, courteousness, putting my parents at ease, and the bill was very reasonable for the services performed. I would use them again in an instant if I had a need for an electrician and would recommend their services to anyone else.

We were very pleased with everyone at Mendota Electric. The electrician that we hired for the remodel cancelled a few days before the work was to start due to health issues, leaving us scrambling for an electrician. We called Mendota and explained the situation. They had someone come out the next day to see the space and put together a quote over the weekend. They started work two days later, fitting us in around existing projects and emergency work due to the large storms that had come thru over the weekend. They even called to let us know that the electrician was running a little late at one of these emergency projects. The electrician also ran into several problems due to the age of the house but he took the time to figure them all out, all of which was included in the work. Their entire staff was competent, friendly and responsive.

This was a very positive experience from the initial phone call to the completion of service. The service call was scheduled for a convenient time and Josh arrived right on time. Josh was very professional, efficient and completed the work quickly. I will definitely use them in the future as well as recommend them to others.

Mendota was highly professional from start to finish. Scheduling the service call was handled with in a very customer friendly manner. The electrician arrived right on schedule, he was professional, friendly and had very good listening skills. (I had done the original work and had a detailed understanding to share - I was also a little please to find out that I hadn't wired anything incorrectly.) As he worked, he was willing to share a bit of his knowledge on identifying and resolving the faults. He completed the work about an hour and left everything in good order.

A buddy and I attempted to replace a really old ceiling fan, only to mess up the wiring. Note, the wiring was vintage 1950's and totally messed up compared to modern wiring. I called Mendota Electric after researching Angie's list. Talked to them on a Tuesday and scheduled an appointment for Friday at 1:00. Unfortunately, the individual with whom I spoke didn't actually get the appointment on the calendar. So, when 1:00 on Friday came and went I gave them a call, only to find out they didn't have me scheduled. On the good news side, Josh was able to swing by after finishing another appointment. He was able to get me up and running in less than 30 minutes and also discounted their initial hourly rate to make up for the time delay. It was pretty exciting to have the fan up and running after that! I will definitely contact Mendota Electric again for future wiring needs.

I had two GFI circuits tripping shortly after siding was installed, the city replaced a water meter and drilled through the side of my home near wiring and after I had replaced several outlets. The electrician, Josh, tracked down the problem after spending about 8 hours over three days. Josh is simply one of the hardest workers I've ever seen. There was not a minute on the final bill that wasn't earned. On the second day I had left work early to meet Josh at my home. I received a call from the company telling me that he had run into a problem on a previous job and could they reschedule. When I replied that I had left work early, the employee cheerfully said, "well, we'll just have to get there then, won't we?" This is the third time I've used this company...the previous two were for minor jobs, the work was done professionally and of minimal cost and therefore I did not submit reports. This was a complicated problem, with potential electrical hazard consequences and the company, and Josh, worked until it was solved. Fabulous...great job...great company.

The electrician worked hard (and fast) trying to find the problem. He he was obviously committed to finding the problem and worked very hard trying to figure things out troubleshooting many outlets and many scenarios. It ended up taking 4-5 hours but the end result was that the job was successfully done. Overall, I am very satisfied with overall result and electrician. My only problem was the price and maybe it is just me not being used to the electrical method of costs. Apparently, regardless of how big a problem it is, you pay by the hour. Even though my problem was a 25 cent piece, it costs over $500. It did take the electrician 4-5 hours to find the problem. Obviously, I paid for the expertise, talent, and professionalism of plumber to diagnose the problem- and I guess in the end - I "had" to have the problem fixed - so perhaps I am willing to pay that for results, but it still seems a little excessive.

The experience began with talking to Lisa, who was very pleasant when answering my questions and setting up the appointment. Josh was the electrician for my job, and he showed up right on time. He was friendly, professional, and courteous. Overall, he was very efficient, and I always feel better knowing a licensed pro is doing any job that involves electricity. The only snag was that he didn't have a new brace with him. I had told Lisa that a new receptacle would be needed. Unfortunately, Josh didn't get that info, so he had to go to the office to get a brace. Thankfully, their office is close to where I live. And he didn't charge me for that time because I had specifically requested that he have one with him. The cost was higher than I might have paid with another company. I went with Mendota Electric because they have licensed professionals and also could do the job promptly. In the future, I'd probably shop around more for this kind of simple job. But I'd definitely hire them again for any major electrical work.
