They came in and checked all vent chutes and replaced as needed. They foam sealed the bypass areas, lights, fans top plates dropped soffits and duct work. We have 15 ceiling cans that they used 3/4 " Thermax boxes around. Then they blew in cellulose into attic to R-50. They built up around the access doors and sealed them. They used drop cloths to protect my home and cleaned up any insulation debris. Very prompt to arrive on job as promised. Helped complete the paper work required by Excel for energy rebate. We used their services again for the VFW 1901 in Montrose , MN Nice folks to do business with .
Description of Work: We had an Excel energy audit done in the spring. In the late summer we contacted Lewis Insulation for a bid. The bid was acceptable and they got started within a week. We are anxious to see if we get the terrible ice dams over the furnace room area this winter. Before the area around the furnace plenum was not sealed off and the original insulation had settled leaving even the heat ducts under insulated with R-7. Lots of heat loss. All the heat ducts run thru the attic in this single level home. We already feel the difference.

So, so happy with Lewis Insulation, I recommend them without hesitation. We had two objectives: 1) we had inherited a major mouse infestation from the prior owners and needed really disgusting insulation in the basement removed and replaced, 2) the house had a history of ice dams and we wanted to do the necessary prevention work in the attic Scheduling was easy, a bid was received from Brian very promptly. On the scheduled install day the crew arrived promptly, were really pleasant, worked efficiently, communicated clearly, walked me through the finished work, and cleaned up thoroughly. That in itself deserves A's across the board. But what made me really, really happy was how the attic was addressed. Turns out our house is vented weird, which was not observable due to the existing blown in insulation (all the vent work was buried). A less careful insulator would have either not noticed, or just shrugged and blown in the extra insulation, but Brian's guy wanted to understand what was going on so that no problems were missed. The crew got together and discussed the situation, and recognized that this was the root of our ice dam problem. This meant more extensive work than the original bid, a call to Brian quickly provided a change to the scope of the work and they were able to address it in the same day. Not only that, but they worked very, very hard to do that extra work before I had to leave the house for a meeting. Really, they were super, and it was beyond expectations. I should also mention that Brian came to the site to check on completed work, and our unexpected problem. Also appreciated... I chose Lewis insulation because they had consistent very high ratings on Angie's List and I'm very glad I did. They were great.
Description of Work: Removal of contaminated (nasty!) rim joist insulation in the basement. Application of closed-cell spray foam insulation in the rim joist of the basement. The workers explained each step that they carried out and were well-prepared and careful to lay down tarps and clean up each area they worked in. All work was done in an efficient manner. They blew a huge quantity of fiberglass insulation into the attic spaces after they had finished installing the rafter ventilation tubes. They had to temporarily take down the aluminum fascia board covering in the areas in which they installed the soffit vents in the front of the house. All work was done neatly and professionally. This work has wrought the biggest change in the ventilation of our home of anything we've done (ceiling fans, new central AC Unit, Anderson Renewal windows, etc.) This summer with its excessive heat has been an acid test of the efficiency of the new insulation and ventilation of the attic. The house is much easier to cool, quicker to cool and stays within a narrow range of temperatures with no necessity for changing the thermostat setting. The top level of our 4-Level home has remained cooler than in previous summers without any other adjustments being made. Although I have not as yet compared the actual KWH used in cooling this summer, my combined utility bills are lower than those of the previous two summers. I am convinced that this is one of the best values I've ever received from work done on a home. I highly recommend Brian Lewis, Lewis Insulation and their work.
Description of Work: Initial visit to our home to do an energy audit with a heat meter (inferometer). Owner, Brian Lewis then developed an estimate to install ventilation tubes in the rafters, seal all openings (exhaust fans, light fixtures, kitchen hood, etc.) from the living space into attic, blow in additional fiberglass insulation and install soffit vents in the front of the house where there were none. All the services were performed in one day by two polite, knowledgeable and punctual workers. They were on site for about 7 hours and worked thoughout that time with a short break for lunch. Brian Lewis came to the house twice during the time the job was being performed to check on the work and explain to me some of the elements of the job.

It was a great experience from start to finish. I knew we needed to do at least some of the insulation with foam because the slope of our room was so shallow there wasn't enough room to blow in enough fiberglass to get the R value we wanted. Foam is great because it seals off all of your air bypasses from your house into your attic, but it is expensive. We were getting a new roof at the same time so it was no problem to get access to the attic for the spraying. Brian Lewis arrived on time for our appointment to give me an estimate and took his time looking around. He came up with the money-saving idea to use a combination of foam and fiberglass where other companies had suggested foam only. He also assured me that he could take care of the soffits at a very reasonable price (compared to what the roofer wanted for the work) so I agreed to have him do that as well. I asked for an estimate for the rim joists and decided to do that as well. Brian suggested we blow the fiberglass into the ceiling of the garage to keep the bedroom and bathroom floors a bit warmer so we added that as well. Brian was a pleasure to work with on the bidding--no pressure. Patiently answered all of my questions. Brian checked out his plan with the St Louis Park city inspectors and got their buy-in. The roofer, Brian and I also had a planning meeting prior to the work to make sure everyone knew who was doing what and where they needed to coordinate their efforts. Brian and his crew were there bright and early and ready to go as soon as the roofer had opened up part of the roof to give them access. The jumped right in and started removing the old batted insulation while the foam crew got their equipment ready. Steve was in charge of spraying the foam and the fire retardant. I had a chance at one point to talk with him and came away very impressed. He was very knowledgeable about his work and was very serious about doing a high quality job in a safe manner. The entire crew worked together well and also coordinated smoothly with the roofers. The roofing supervisor even made a point of telling me what a pleasure it had been to work with Brian's crew. The crew came back the next day to spray the fire retardant and to do the remaining work on the soffits, the rim joists and garage ceiling. They did exactly what they had promised and cleaned up behind themselves as they finished the work. All the work passed inspection by St Louis Park without any problems. Brian submitted the paperwork for my CenterPoint Energy rebate promptly upon completion of the work, Finding people like Brian and Steve to work on my house is the reason I value Angie's lsit so much.
Description of Work: 1) Removed old batted insulation (est. at R15). Installed ventilation chutes between all possible rafters. Boxed 10 can lights. Sprayed 2+ inches of foam insulation in attic. Sprayed ignition barrier on top of foam (St Louis Park required this, but other cities may not) Blew 14" of fiberglass on top to R50. Approximately 1530 square feet. ($6550) 2) Sprayed foam insulation on rim joists in basement. ($500) 3) Removed soffits and cut ventilation holes in plywood to create airflow into attic. Replaced soffits.($450) 4) Blew fiberglass insulation (dense pak method) into ceiling of tuck-under garage (bedroom floors). Approximately 600 square feet. ($700)

I called Brian for an estiamte and he was out to my house within a week. Brian thoroughly explained the processes that they used and gave me options on how to proceed. I had other estimates, but chose him because he took the time to go over everything and answer all of my questions in detail and that made us comfortable working with him. He also gave us some background on his company. The two guys he sent out to do the insulation were top notch. They quickly identified the project and efficiently covered the floors and furniture and vacuumed up after they were through. The room looked hte same as it did before they arrived. I definitely will call them again if I need insulation work.

Brian came out to look at the job. It was obvious that he knew his stuff, and offered some good alternatives to what I had been presented with from other contractors. I received his bid within a day or two. Shortly after I called and got on his schedule. I got a call the day before the work was scheduled to confirm that they would be there. Brian's crew arrived on time as promised and got right to work. They covered their travel path with drop cloths. They did a thorough job of sealing the by-pass areas and went the extra mile in addressing a couple of problem areas that weren't anticipated. It was obvious that his crew took pride in their work and were very quality conscious. Both the blown in and the foam board installation went smoothly. They finished the work within their estimated time, and took extra care to clean up when they were done. When they left there was no trace that they had ever been there. I would definitely use Lewis Insulation again. I still have other items from the audit that will need to be addressed down the road but they definitely gave me a good start on tightening up our home. The only downside if it really is one, is that they are good, and therefore are busy, so don't expect to call on Friday and expect them out on Monday. Thanks again to Brian and his crew! Good job.
Description of Work: Our project started with an energy audit from Centerpoint Energy. I got bids from 3 different contractors, and I got 3 distinctly different approaches and costs in addressing my insulation issues. Brian's approach was the most incremental and common sense one and also the most cost effective. The main areas of the project were: Sealing a variety of bypass areas in our attic space. Adding blown in fiberglass insulation in the high attic to meet the R-50 standard. Addressing an attic space on the north side of our house which was prone to ice dams with a combination of blown in cellulose insulation and rigid foam board..

The written bid was initially prepared in the summer of 2011. A few adjustments were made to the bid via email to clarify individual points. As I live in St. Louis, MO and needed to be present during the installation process in Minneapolis, MN the owner, Brian Lewis, was very flexible as to when the job could be started. In early October I notified Brian when I would be in Minneapolis for a one day window. He agreed to meet that schedule. On the scheduled date the Installation team of 3 arrived on time. Performed a brief walk-through to ensure team instructions from the owner were as I expected. They were an exact match. The team leader made a couple of suggested adjustments to the installation based on his assessment of the situation. These were completely acceptable and improved the effectiveness of the installation, but did not affect the cost. The team proceeded with the installation. The team leader periodically kept me informed as to the teams progress and any issues they encountered. He also informed me how the team dealt with these issues to keep the job in line with the objective and expectations. If a question arose at any point in the process, the team leader consulted with me for a determination before proceeding. Throughout the process every team member was polite with a positive attitude and engaging. The team made every effort to minimize dirt and dust.. The company owner Brian Lewis arrived near the end of the installation process to review with his team what they had accomplished and what constituted completion. He then reviewed that with me and we agreed. When the job was complete the team leader performed another walk through with me to review what had been accomplished. When the installation and review was complete, the team performed a thorough cleanup and departed. Overall, I cannot think of a way this process could have been improved. Excellent service. Excellent customer relationship.

They responded to our call right away, and they came over and the man paid more attention to our house than anyone else did and checked features on both the inside and outside of our house, as well as in our attic. He explained what options we had available and what type of insulation would work best with our home and what we already had. Mr. Lewis was in no hurry at all, and gave us ample time to ask questions and make sure we understood everything. His crew worked very well, they looked and acted professionally and tidy. They did a great job and the owner was here as well to supervise and make sure everything was going well. They really went the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied, comfortable, and that we got the absolute best price possible! We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Brians team came and covered my can'ed lights, insulated all my electrical wires and put in vents between the two by fours up the roof. Then installed insulsation to reach a R50 rating. The team installed additional vents out side under the eve's for more circulation in the attic. The team did a great job, very professional, efficient and cleaned up after themselves. Great job, thank you so much.
Description of Work: I was having issues with ice dams, so I had Brian come out and look at my instualation in my attic and he found that I didn't have any vents going up my roof walls (in between each of the two by fours) and had gaps where little if any insulstation was. I had issues with my can'ed lights, which were giving off heat and melting the snow on my roof causing ice dams as well. The other issue was I didn't have enough vents outside under my eve's to promote circulation of air.

I was extremely satisfied with the professionalism and cleanliness of the workmen. I apparently had so little insulation in my attic that the addition of new fiberglass insulation should help to keep my house warmer in the winter, and cooler in the summer. I will NOT know, this, however, until I have experienced winter and summer for the first time after performance of work by Lewis Insulation. I'd be happy to report those results next year. Update: November 14, 2012 I have the highest praise for Lewis Insulation. I called them yesterday to say that I had noticed 2-3 soffits had come loose where they had previously worked on ventilation. They responded that someone would be out TODAY, Nov. 14th to fix it, and indeed they were here, and fixed it. Though the fix was not difficult, I was really impressed with the quick response. Also, I'm happy to report that both my electric bill and heating bill were down after this work. Now, whether it was because of a fairly mild winter, I don't know, but I tend to feel that the new insulation played a big role. I would definitely recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: Brian Lewis came out to look at my attic and give me an estimate on work to be done. He was also kind enough to inform me of an Energy Audit which I had done, prior to going with Brian's company. Work was performed by two employees of Lewis installation. They arrived on time and told me in advance what work would be done. They were careful to put down protective cloths and make sure things that needed protecting were moved. Work done included: installed 6 ft. styrofoam chutes between every rafter possible Foam seal bypass areas - lights, pipes, wires, fans, top plates, drop soffit built up around attic door, insulated and sealed. Insulated and sealed kitchen duct work boxed 2 can lights blew fiberglass insulation into house attic to R-50 Took down soffit vents every 2-3' and cut holes in plywood for ventilation and put soffit vents back up on north and south ends They then cleaned up after all of the work performed.
