It went pretty horribly, overall.
Description of Work: We visited Rusco at the Minnesota State Fair last summer, and signed up for their drawing for remodeling, which is neither here nor there as far as our experience with them was. After several attempts to get someone out to give us an estimate on windows, we finally had a salesperson and what appeared to be a trainee arrive at our home. We were looking at having 8 windows on our 3 season porch replaced, as well as our front door. This person was unbelievably rude. So far over-the-top rude it defies explanation, it was actually funny when it was all over. Firstly, he was under the impression that we wanted an estimate on siding, which we didn't (the house is stucco). He insisted that that is what his receptionist told him, and after saying "no, we're looking at windows" this guy said "so are you calling my receptionist a liar?" Then there was talk about the windows, and he said "so what, are you gonna do it yourself?" I said "maybe" and they laughed at this. The "sales person" kvetched about having to go through doing an estimate because, according to this guy, it was going to be a complete waste of his time if we weren't going to sign a contract THAT DAY. At one point he got out his sample window to demonstrate how they worked and the bottom fell off of it, not normally a big deal, but he was such a "jerk" (and I have a much stronger word for him but we'll just go with jerk for now) it was kind of awesome seeing that happen. Also, I can't remember the exact words, but Jerky implied that we didn't have money to spend on this anyway, so clearly he came into this with a rotten attitude. The estimate (if you could call it that) was so ridiculously high, somewhere around $10K for the windows, and $3K to have the door installed. One door. $3,000. Nothing special or fancy, just a door. We never got to the part of whether that actually included the door or not. After doing this horrible hard-sell (so many things said, "we need a contract signed today, I'm not going to do this if you're not going to sign", etc.) I said "I can tell you what isn't going to happen, I'm NOT going to sign a contract right now to give you guys $10,000" and they stopped what they were doing and packed up their stuff and left. Horrible, horrible, horrible. We've had most of the work done by another contractor, at a FRACTION of the cost, great, quality work. This entire event happened last fall, 2010. I can only hope that this person doesn't work for Rusco anymore, it appears they have done work for other people that has been great. Unfortunately, we didn't get past the initial awful meeting.
