Description of Work: Bathroom remodel. Designers were incompetent. They initially told me my design was impossible but their installation staff wondered why they said that. When they re-cost what I wanted, the cost went up $5000, which was beyond what I told them I could spend. I found this out after the 3-day cancellation period was past. Would not let me out of my contract unless I forfeited the down payment even though they had not even pulled the permits. I did not initially sign-off on their installation because of obvious (to me) problems, which required additional materials to fix (which they had to cover).

{member name removed}, There is always 2 sides to a story. You are correct that contractually you have 3 days to cancel an order. We pay the consultant and have admin costs that have to be recouped. You agreed to the design and I am terribly sorry you don't like it. The time to change the design is before product is ordered and there is always time to make changes. I am sad your so angry but be assured our product and labor warranties are intact and you should have many years of good use out of your new bathroom.

Description of Work: The salesman told us that we were a very good customer and said that MN Rusco has done business with us in the past. He pointed out that our 13 windows were Rusco's windows and looks like the door was Rusco's. He also mentioned that the sliding glass door (SGD) was probably Rusco's too. However, they have come out with a superior product SGD with welded corners. The installer who took out the old SGD and replaced it with a new one, commented on the poor job the old installer had done on the flashing at the bottom of the door. This in effect had allowed water to come into the wood and cause wet rot.... which in turn was a huge attraction to carpentar ants which caused the wood frame at the bottom of the SGD to crumble which caused a break in the frame of the frame of the SGD. So, in effect, the previous installer had really messed up... and if he had not messed up, we wouldn't have needed a new replacement door. I told him that the last installer was from Rustco and that it was a Rustco door to which he replied "I was here at the time the last one was installed but it wasn't me who installed it". When I told the company about it, they said that the installer from the original install of the sliding glass door (SGD) was no longer with the company. Further looking into this, they declined liability stating that it was not their Sliding Glass Door. Edit 5/27/15: After checking my records, it seems that Rustco was not the provider or installer of the old door that was replaced.

[Member name removed], Unfortunately, the door previously installed was not purchased nor installed by Minnesota Rusco Inc. However, we did the needed repairs to the floor and opening when we recently installed the new door. The added repairs that were done at no cost to you. We did replace your windows and you are a good customer. However, whomever you purchased the sliding patio door from did not do a good installation that created the associated problems. We are sorry that this happened to you but hope you understand it was not our product or our installation that created the problem. Thanks so much.

Description of Work: They installed new counter top in bathroom. Initial installation went well in Nov, 2014. However, we noticed after they left that the depth of the counter was about 1/2 inch too narrow. Enough so any splash over would damage the wood cabinets. |It was the day before Thanksgiving and we called the manager. He was wonderful and by Monday after Thanksgiving, he had checked on their measurements, called us and ordered a replacement counter as it was indeed a an error of 5/8's. The new one arrived just before Christmas. The installer was very crabby that day and acted like we were being too picky. Was definitely rude which was unfortunate as the office staff and manager were top rate. They held the payment of our check until the new counter arrived and was installed and we were satisfied. |The reason I probably wouldn't use them again as I definitely do not want to work with their installer again and the product is nice looking but unfortunately scratches easily. Just not something I will want in the future but overall, the company was very good.

Description of Work: I met the Rusco salesman at their booth at the State Fair, and engaged him to come to my home to give me an estimate on a replacement window. The salesman was very young, so I was amused, rather than annoyed, by his almost painful eagerness at the State Fair booth. He arrived punctually for the appointment at my home, and spent a lot of time and energy assessing what sort of window I needed. But then he went all hard-sell, offered me a rather high estimate, with a generous discount that was available only if I signed on the deal immediately. He also said that in a matter of days Rusco was likely to get so busy that they might not have time to do my window before winter. I had not yet had a chance to get other bids, or to evaluate the suggestions he had just made about what type of window to install. I don't know if I might eventually have gone with Rusco. But I'm totally allergic to that kind of high-pressure sales pitch, and I do not make snap decisions. So Rusco lost this sale. I should note that the salesman was courteous, polite, and friendly.

Description of Work: The service as great! The installers were friendly and courteous. They cleaned up and hauled away the old windows. The boss stopped by to make sure the job was done correctly. Very pleased with the new windows and the way the job was completed.

It went pretty horribly, overall.
Description of Work: We visited Rusco at the Minnesota State Fair last summer, and signed up for their drawing for remodeling, which is neither here nor there as far as our experience with them was. After several attempts to get someone out to give us an estimate on windows, we finally had a salesperson and what appeared to be a trainee arrive at our home. We were looking at having 8 windows on our 3 season porch replaced, as well as our front door. This person was unbelievably rude. So far over-the-top rude it defies explanation, it was actually funny when it was all over. Firstly, he was under the impression that we wanted an estimate on siding, which we didn't (the house is stucco). He insisted that that is what his receptionist told him, and after saying "no, we're looking at windows" this guy said "so are you calling my receptionist a liar?" Then there was talk about the windows, and he said "so what, are you gonna do it yourself?" I said "maybe" and they laughed at this. The "sales person" kvetched about having to go through doing an estimate because, according to this guy, it was going to be a complete waste of his time if we weren't going to sign a contract THAT DAY. At one point he got out his sample window to demonstrate how they worked and the bottom fell off of it, not normally a big deal, but he was such a "jerk" (and I have a much stronger word for him but we'll just go with jerk for now) it was kind of awesome seeing that happen. Also, I can't remember the exact words, but Jerky implied that we didn't have money to spend on this anyway, so clearly he came into this with a rotten attitude. The estimate (if you could call it that) was so ridiculously high, somewhere around $10K for the windows, and $3K to have the door installed. One door. $3,000. Nothing special or fancy, just a door. We never got to the part of whether that actually included the door or not. After doing this horrible hard-sell (so many things said, "we need a contract signed today, I'm not going to do this if you're not going to sign", etc.) I said "I can tell you what isn't going to happen, I'm NOT going to sign a contract right now to give you guys $10,000" and they stopped what they were doing and packed up their stuff and left. Horrible, horrible, horrible. We've had most of the work done by another contractor, at a FRACTION of the cost, great, quality work. This entire event happened last fall, 2010. I can only hope that this person doesn't work for Rusco anymore, it appears they have done work for other people that has been great. Unfortunately, we didn't get past the initial awful meeting.

Response from MINNESOTA RUSCO
Member, I am so sorry you were displeased with our representative. It is a shame that you would rate our company so poorly from one experience with one sales rep. The person you spoke of is not with us for reasons similar to yours. We did make a mistake hiring him and again am very sorry for your experience. However, you never used our services and it just saddens me that you would be so critical about our whole company after one contact. That is your right, however we have good people who do good work and when mistakes are made we go to great lengths to make things right for all involved. I am glad you found a contractor for your project and hope he/she is there in the future when you need service. Best Regards, Jay Deems General Manager/Owner
