We were well satisfied with the professionalism of the service man
Description of Work: We had repairs made to a MN Rusco garden window that was installed several years ago. It had developed a leak after new siding was installed. The repairman first attempted to recaulk. When that did not work, he returned and installed new flashing at no extra cost. This solved the problem.

Overall I wouldn't select this company for a bid or a project.
Description of Work: I got a bid from this company and they were very unprofessional compared to their counterparts in the siding industry. They were rushed, didn't show me any product, and sent a very informal bid (it was in the text of an e-mail not even its own document). After I got the bid I was discussing it with a friend who actually had work done on their home and it was a very bad experience. MN Russco got the colors wrong on window frames, took a long time in general, and to make matters worse crews walked right through their garden, even after being asked not to.

I was beyond pleased with Mel and Fred. The install was just perfect. They showed up right on time, were super respectful of my home, cleaned up after themselves, and installed the door perfectly in a difficult space. The price was excellent based on my other estimates, and the door is very high quality. They installed windows for me in 2005, and I called them because I remembered what a great job they did then. I would not hesitate to use them again, and would highly recommend them.

They gave me a quote in November, hoping to be able to start work. Then we had a huge snowstorm and winter began. They started in March. First they had to remove all the snow from on and around the work area and create a wooden path to the backyard. Once that was done, they removed the old porch, then thawed the ground for the footings. Everything went smoothly as they pored the footings, built the floor and took delivery of the prefab walls. The rest also went smoothly. Once the porch was done and the rains came, we found the skylights leaked. A call to Joel and there was someone out right away to calk. Joel checked back after the next rain to be sure everything was okay. Everything was cleaned up and my fence put back up. The team headed by Arnie was very professional and kept me informed of each step so I knew when they would be there and what they would be doing. So far I love using this room and would highly recommend this company.

I set up the original meeting for a job quote for a Thursday at 7:00pm. Because the home is one of my rentals, I had to ask permission from my renters to come over, inconveniencing them. I then had to drive 15 miles to get to the rental home for the appointment, so I allowed for traffic and got there about 6:45. At 6:59pm, I get a phone call from their office stating that the salesman is busy at his previous appointment and they'll need to re-book any time that's convenient for me. I requested 8:00am the following Monday and was told that they don't begin until 10:00am, so I requested 6:00pm instead. Following Monday at 6:00pm, I'm there, again inconveniencing myself and my renters. At about 6:15 I get a phone call from the office again stating that the salesman is busy with a prior engagement and won't be able to make it tonight, so they wanted to reschedule. At this point I told them I wouldn't be requiring their services, and I went with another contractor who showed up for the quote and install on time.

We will not be working with Minnesota Rusco.
Description of Work: Representative just left my home without giving me an estimate for what it would cost for siding and windows because we were not able to give him a direct yes or no on if we could do the work on the house this year. We are in the process of refinancing our house but have to replace the roof first. He did not want to take the hour to do the measurements to give us an estimated price on siding. This is there 3rd time out to my house for an estimate, and I have not received one. I will tell the telemarketer next time they call me to remove my name from their list.

This job was professionally handled from the start. The salesman, Greg, correctly measured the windows, helped choose the style and priced the job. (The price, by the way, was at least 30% less than two other vendors.) The windows were installed professionally inside and out. Since the repair insert was part of the job, the billing service agents waited until everything was done before final invoicing. We are very pleased with the our windows and the service we got from Minnesota Rusco. This is our second window replacement job with Minnesota Rusco, by the way. We are still enjoying the windows replaced by this company in 1995..
Description of Work: We replaced 3 windows and had one window repaired. The windows were ordered and then installed in just a few hours. The installer, Jack, was very professional and efficient. He made sure all windows operated correctly and everything was clean after installation. The window to be repaired was a replacement insert, but was not the correct style. The correct insert was ordered and installed in mid-December, 2010. The repair was done under warranty and at no charge by an experienced service person.

My overall experience with this company is one of being on a rollercoaster. The up: Once I expressed interest in the company, they called right away, but kept calling, and calling (a little bit too much). However, I decided to check them out given some references and a sale they had going on. The salesman was very polite, prompt, and efficient, and he appeared to listen to our needs and desires. He was rather new at the job, but called the office if he couldn't answer a question. He wrote out an estimate, and took quick measurements of the door. He noted since it was a custom opening, that the door would need to be special ordered. I took the information he gave and used it to look around for other doors, but custom-ordered doors are more expensive and this company's prices seemed competitive. So we ordered the door. The door arrived in the expected time, the company promptly scheduled installation, and the installation went without a hitch. I was told ahead of time that the installer was not a talkative guy, and that was the truth. However, he was pleasant and seemed to know what he was doing. The down: After installation, the company called right away to collect the rest of the payment. I was about to pay when I received a note in the mail saying that the estimate was an overestimate and about $400 was deducted from the cost because it wasn't a custom-made door! Now, I appreciate that they appropriately reduced the price, but I had 'shopped around' for other doors under the premise that they would have to be custom-made. That really limited the companies I approached and the conversations I had. We chose MN Rusco because of their ability to produce custom-made doors in a reasonable time and an average price. Who knows what information/prices I might have found had I shopped around with the correct information? So I have ended up feeling like the company pulled a 'bait-and-switch' of sorts on us, which has left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, and it is why I will not use them again. In addition, as I was trying to understand what happened with the price/door, they kept calling...and calling...and calling for payment. I did pay them what was due, but it was a bit much, in my opinion. The up: The door seems to be very solid and of good quality and the installation seems to be professional. We have not had any problems with the door since installation, and are anticipating our basement will be much warmer because of the replacement. The locks are solid, the door glides smoothly and there don't seem to be any leaks or cracks of any kind. The landing: If you choose to go with them, make sure that you know exactly what they are offering and get an independent second opinion (and measurements). You also must be tolerant of constant phone calls. If I had received about half the amount of calls that I did from them, it would have been a better experience.

Wow...I am so sorry that we did not communicate everything as well as we should have. The fact is we made an honest mistake and deducted money from your bill. I guess if we had been dishonest and kept the money we may have gotten an "A". But an "A" is not worth being dishonest. We have been around for 55 years because we treat people fair and honest even when no one knows! Original installation crew seemed pleasant and did arrive as scheduled. However, the follow up to the installation was terrible. We asked them to come out and repair some of the white "dings" in the oak colored interior frames as a result of the implementation. More significant, however, were large gaps (over 1/2") at the top and bottom of a custom window where we actually could feel a breeze coming through. I made 11 follow up calls for the dings and gap to be fixed. They even sent someone out who came into the house with his dirty shoes tracking up 3 flights of white carpeted stairs (1.5 hours late) looked at it and said I don't have the right saw and I'll need to come back. He NEVER came back. I called 3 times after that "visit" before someone finally came out. The salesman talks a good game but don't be fooled. We've had a lot of work done on our home since we moved in four years ago and this is by far the worst experience we've had. (Ironically, they keep calling us for more busineses and I keep telling them to take us off our their prospect list. When I tell them why, no one even bothers to followup. I guess I should expect that LOL!)

The estimator seemed to lack knowledge of the product and of basic salesmanship. He took way to long (in my opinion, and based on how much time others took) to measure and provide the estimate info. The price was very high, even with their so-called 40% off sale. I thought the product seemed of good quality, after I asked alot of questions and was able to obtain the brochure from him and read it myself. I would not recommend them based on this experience.
Description of Work: Saw their display at the state fair, noting 40% sale on siding. Signed up for them to come and do an estimate as we are having other work done on our house and need siding to finish the whole project. They called soon after to set up the appointment. The estimator came at the correct time. He came in the house with a clipboard with the little card I filled out, and nothing else. He asked if I was interested in Siding/Soffits (which I was, which I checked on the request-for-estimate-sheet, and what I told the person on the phone). He asked what I had in mind, and I requested a demonstration of Rusco product(s). He then went back to his car, where that material was. He came back 5-10 minutes later(!) and skimmed through the brochure for his benefit, set it aside away from me, and stumbled through an akward demo. I had to ask HIM what the specs of the product were (R-Value, thickness of materials, etc.) so I could reasonably compare to my other estimates. After getting not much more info from him (he seemed less than knowledgeable with the products) we decided that he should measure so that he could complete his estimate. He went outside to measure. After more than an hour I went outside to see what was going on, or if he was even still there. He then asked if we wanted the windows wrapped as part of the siding project (of course, but shouldn't he asked that an hour ago?). Then another 15 minutes or so... He came in with his estimate, telling me the amount of materials and price. It was almost twice the price of another estimate I had of comparable materials. I asked if that was their 40% off sale, and he said yes. So, if it weren't on sale, their price would have been around 3 times that price! I'm not so disappointed in the price (although this seems like a bait-and-switch to get you to sign up for an estimate and then there is no real "discount") but I am very disappointed that Rusco would send someone out with such little training in their product and salesmanship. That was a fruitless nearly-two-hours that I will never get back. We are having the project done by other contractors.

I apologize for your experience. It was obviously one of our newer sales persons who training was inadequate. I will find out who and fix the issue. It is possible if it took him an hour to measure his price may have been way off as well. Nevertheless, we do offer 40% off at the State Fair and it is a real discount. Our retail price is published as is our discount. Again, my sincerest apologies for your experience.

We contacted Minnesota Rusco because some friends of ours were so happy with the work they had done. All contact with their representatives was prompt and friendly. Their salesperson was knowledgeable and not pushy at all (very important in my book!). The pricing was even better than we expected since we took advantage of a sale they were having at the time. The installer was wonderful, working quickly and got the job (11 windows) done in 2.5 days. I am so happy with our new windows and can't wait to see the difference they make this winter! We have already noticed how much quieter it is inside with the windows closed, almost no road noise at all!

Service went well. They completed the installation over two days. Only interaction was over the phone. Windows have not had any issues including no trim touch up needed. It took a little longer than I would have liked but response time and results were better than anticipated.

I am sorry you had that experience. We do not pressure consumers though we do give a "tonight" price. The decision is always yours and in this instance you decided against it. Our "tonight" price offers a small additional discount for those consumers who can and want to purchase the best products from a reputable company and can make a decision on the first visit. It helps us be efficient and helps keep the cost down of making multiple trips to a home. Neverthelss, if you have not made a purchase as of yet, as the owner, I would be pleased to meet with you personally and make something work for you. If not, I wish you all the best in getting your project completed. Best Wishes Jay Deems

They came out when asked and were very professional, but kind of pushy. Afater we decided to go with another provider we got a call from I believe the owner who was also initially very professional and asked about the sales presentation. While he characterized the call as a follow-up to check on the sales person, it became apparent that the call was really another attempt to win our business. We listened to him and ended up going through another round of talks which included some lowering of their price. In the end, we decided to use another provider. We promised to get back to Rusco with our decision, but due to work travel I failed to call the day promised, so when Rusco called later that week, it was not a very pleasant conversation. I just got the impression in dealing with Rusco that no matter how we dealt with them, if we did not chose to use them, there would be hard feelings. They made you feel that way.

We do try hard to earn the business. If we were too pushy I apologize. Often when people by on price they are very disappointed and once again the industry gets a black eye. I hope all went well with your project and wish you nothing but the best. The contact was made through Sam's Club. The salesman was thorough in the description of the work to be done. In order to get the best deal provided through the Sam's Club referral we had to sign the contract on the day he came out. I would rather have had time but it was a significant savings. A crew of 3 men completed the work. in two days. They cleaned up well. The work was done while there was snow on the ground. They returned after the snow cleared and finished the clean up. There were a couple of item that they needed to return and correct, but over all the work was done well and professionally.

We had estimates from three companies that were pretty comparable in price but the product and the response we got to questions sold us on Rusco. They did a great job installing the doors, and when the first set had specks inside the glass they replace all three doors with no hassel to us at all. Rudy, who installed the doors, is a perfectionist and did a great job on the trim and the doors. The doors themselves are triple pane glass and we have already noticed the room is less drafty.

Terrible. The sales person was 45 minutes late (yes he called to say he'd be a little late). The sales pitch... well to be fair, we had sat thru all companies pitch to compare ... we did the walk thru. Then the estimate was very high. But the rep had 2 other quotes prepared. The second quote was within the same ball park as what was given by other companies. But the third quote (the "today's price only...") was $10,000 less than the original!! Red flags when someone can drop dramatically! Didn't care for the rep, so about a week later, the regional manager came out. He did the same thing! It was high pressure. The quality was not close to others, nor their warranty. I would not buy from them, nor recommend them to others.

Salesman hyped up services, later found out some weren't available. Installers (2 guys) were phenomenal, were very prompt, answered all our questions, and knowledgeable. Not college guys with summer jobs, they were experienced tradesmen who took pride in their job. One caveat- make sure to read the contract, if you feel something is missing ask questions. We assumed too much and missed a detail in the windows. The sales order form did not have a designated check box and we assumed it was covered somewhere else in the form. However, upon review with the sales manager they were gracious enough to incur most of the cost to correct the mistake.

I was approched by an associate at a wholesale club. I told him I was looking for a new front door and he gave me a card advertising Rusco Co. I called and set p an appointment with Rusco and a representative came out to talk to me. The quality of the door is excellent. The price is about double what I would have paid at a local hardware store but I liked the 10 year warranty which came with the door. Just before the door was scheduled to be installed, I called the salesman who came out and asked to have an electronic dead bolt lock included with the door. First I was told OK, then I received a call and was told they didn't have one on their shelf and they would have to order one for $400. I was in a hurry to have this done so I said OK, order the lock and install it. Later I found the same lock at a local hardware store for $100.00. I called and asked if I could buy a lock myself and install it I was told if I did the door and lock would not be under warranty so I went ahead with the lock from Rusco. When the worker from Rusco came out with the lock, he was not sure of how to install it. I helped the fella install the lock and quickly went back to my work. I found later when I got home after work that the lock opened all the time whether a code was entered or not. I called for service and was recommended to take it apart myself to fix it. I did and found a wire out of place and pinched. The lock was warranted with the door.
Description of Work: Install a new metal front door and electronic lock.

The experience was okay. They did one follow up. They never did follow up on the front doors. I would give them about a C and I don't think I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: They resided our house and put new windows in as well.
