It was a pleasure speaking to Mike's wife and she managed to have him come out the same day that I called worried about the ice dams forming in the gutters around our home. Mike was professional and worked quickly to complete the job.
Description of Work: We had a lot of ice forming near the roof at the front of our home and in the gutters. Mike came out the same day that I called and was able to remove the ice and clear our gutters. We were very pleased with his service and will definitely use him in the future.

Mike did a great job. I called him on a Thursday and he would have came over right then, but I wasn't able to get home. He came on Friday morning and was on time, got right to work, and took care of our ice dam issue quickly. He was professional and I would definitely use him again. As others noted, the price is a bit high, but he did a great job...especially with something that I couldn't have done myself.
Description of Work: We had an ice dam forming on our roof above the garage. We didn't have any leaking, but the ice dam was growing. Mike came and removed the snow and the ice from that portion of the roof.

Thank you for your feedback. Steam Process Ice Dam removal is a more expensive service compared to others who use a different process, are not experienced, charge lower rates and ultimately cause damage to your roof. It can get expensive if homeowners let their ice dams build up to the point where leaking starts. My rates and end cost is lower than most other experienced steam process ice dam removal companies. I understand the hard economic times we live in and always try to work as fast and efficient as I can to keep the final cost as low as possible for the customer.

We were very happy with Mike's service. He responded back to my email query about ice dams within a business day and was flexible when we had to move the appointment timing back. Mike told us ahead of time that he'd need to access water and power, so we were ready for that. I believe his pricing is very fair considering he's risking life and limb by getting up on an icy, snowy, slick roof and spending 2+ hrs shoveling and steaming ice off of our roof. We'll hopefully have no more ice dams in the future, but if we do we will call Mike and we'll probably investigate using him for some of his other powerwashing services this summer. Highly recommend him for steamed-off ice dam removal.

We were negligent in getting our gutters cleaned and they had become plugged causing massive ice dams and water leaking into the home during winter 2010. As snow and freezing temps were in the forecast we realized that we still never cleaned the plugged gutters so we called Mike one evening fully expecting a long waiting time before he could get to us. To our surprise he was able to get out and clean our gutters within 2 days (I can't remember if it was next day or second day, but it was way sooner than we expected). I was expecting to have to pay $400+ because of the size of the home and pitch of the roof, but to our amazement it was only $200. I mentioned having my gutters cleaned to a friend that lives a couple miles away and they wanted theirs cleaned too. I told Mike my friend that lives a couple miles away also wanted theirs done and he headed right over there after finishing up on my house! My friend and I were both very satisfied with his responsiveness, and I was extremely surprised that he didn't spray one speck of gutter filth onto my freshly cleaned windows! In fact, I don't know what he did with all the slime, gunk, and leaves that were in our gutters because none of it ended up anywhere that I could find.

We are quite pleased. Mike called us back promptly. He showed up in just a couple of days to provide an estimate. Once we agreed to his proposal, he came out the next day to do the work. He took his time and did a nice job. I had received another estimate that was considerably higher. We are glad that we found Mike.

I needed someone to come out and steam off some ice before an extended period of warm weather and melting. I spoke with Mike on the phone as he looked at a satellite image of my roof. It was very helpful that he was able to get some idea of the layout before arriving at my house. If I had just let Mike do his thing, he would have been there for 5 hours and charged me $1250. I told him that I just wasn't prepared for that, so I asked that he keep his work to 3 hours and $750. In that time, he was able to remove a portion of the snow, clear a few patches of ice, and create a handful of channels in the remaining ice. Overalll, his service was very helpful, but I was hoping for a little more of the ice to be steamed off.

When I had first spoken with the members husband, I was under the impression that his roof had been shoveled and the job was just going to be ice dam removal. When I arrived at his home, I could see that it was more than what had been described to me on the phone. I consulted with the husband quite extensively about the work that needed to be done. He told me that he wanted to keep the cost to $750, which is fine but customers need to understand that the job will not be complete. I communicated to him what was going to happen if I only worked for three hours instead of what needed to be done so it was clear there would be ice and snow left on the roof. I told him what I could do in the three hours to take care of the most important problem areas so he would know what to expect. There was a lot of snow on the roof and there was some roof raking that he had been done previously that caused an ice dam further up on the roof as well. I removed a lot of snow and the ice from three valleys which are common leaking areas, one where the snow had to re-routed away from the front door to avoid the sidewalk which did not allow me to shovel the snow directly off the roof. I removed ice from around a vent and made channels in the ice dam which was around 25 feet long that ran from the eve of the house up the roof about 7 feet where the roof had been raked. I can't do 5 hours of work in 3 which was communicated to the homeowner before I started the job. Most customers just want the job done completely so there is a much smaller chance that ice dams will not build up again. I understand having a budget and unexpected expenses and I try to work with customers in that situation. But I can only do so much in the time allotted and I try to take care of the highest priority problem areas to help prevent and/or stop the leaking and further water damage a customer may be dealing with. In this situation I only spoke with the husband, I never spoke with the wife so I don't know if there was a miscommunication between spouses. I am sorry the customer never communicated any concerns with me after the job only here on the report. Thank you for the feedback, we appreciate hearing from our customers with hopes of always providing the best service possible.

Thank you for the feedback, we appreciate it when customers take the time to leave a report. Let's face it; nobody likes to pay for unexpected repairs on anything. It can be expensive if homeowners let their ice dams build up to the point where leaking starts. But time ends up slipping away from us with our busy lives. However, with regard to rates, my rates and end cost is lower than most others. In a lot of cases, mine are 50-75% less than what others are charging. I work fast and efficient to give the customer the best final cost. I understand the hard economic times we live in and always try to work as fast and efficient as I can to keep the final cost as low as possible. I understand what needs to be done with the job, and what does not need to be done. Almost all of my previous customers call me back when they need any of my services. My previous customers that I provided roof, deck and gutter services to call me for ice removal because they know I am not going to over charge them and they trust me. I have many many customers that recommend me to others because they know that I am trust worthy, reliable, my rates are competitive and fair, they are not going to be overcharged, and I treat them with respect. Just a note: There are many people just starting in ice dam removal this year. I have received many calls this year to take care of problems left by other companies. I have heard many experiences, this season, of homeowners hiring people going door to door offering to do their roof snow removal and ice dams for a seemingly low price. Door to door sales is not legal without a permit. Most are not insured or even registered with the state as a legal business. Some people come into the United States just for the season. Some people say they have years of experience, in landscaping or tree trimming maybe, but not in steam process ice dam removal. Homeowners do not always ask the important questions and they end up with damage to their roof, vents, shingles ripped off, etc., and problems created because the job was not done right. And then what? How do you get in touch with the "company" that did the work? The homeowner pays for the damage because it was a fly-by-night person they hired to fix their problem and even the insurance company will not help you at that point if an illegal or uninsured person was hired to do the job. Now you have to pay even more money to hire someone to take care of the problem and fix the damage that was created. Please don't be duped by door-to-door and/or shady snow and ice removal people. Even with people who claim to have experience, ASK THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!

Mike, and his receptionist, were great. Called on Monday and able to schedule me for Friday. Mike called me back later that day to talk about the scope of work, and with him looking at my house from Bing maps, we were able to discuss the problem areas, and he was able to provide me a rough estimate. Wed night Mike contacted me and said he could do the work on Thursday (one day early), which I was more than happy to oblige. He was thorough and professional - great experience all the way around. I've already recommended him to my neighbors.
Description of Work: Had a couple big ice dams which were overloading my gutters and creating plenty of potential problems on the side of my house. Tried the roof pucks from the hardware store - but they didn't dent them. Mike shoveled the snow completely off the effected areas (from the peak to the eaves) and then removed all the ice on the roof and gutters with steam. Water was freely running down the downspouts when he was complete

I found Mike's company on Angie's list and sent an email request for quote from his website. I got a call from Mike later that afternoon. He was viewing my house from a satellite view from his computer in order to understand the layout and the problem. It made it easier to talk about estimates of time and price. He was available the next day, but I wished the day after that which he was totally open. We arranged a start time. He was there on the dot and got himself situated in my driveway (no easy feat) and got right to work and I went to work. It took him 3.8 hours to complete the job (a hair less than the estimate). There was no snow left in the walkways...I don't know where it all went off of the roof. He left a couple of ice dam sections over the A/C and front door I assume to deflect future runoff away from the front steps and air conditioner. Not quite sure I understood that. He has just started Paypal account and his wife called me right after I got home so we could try the first transaction to his account. I like Paypal and it worked great. She emailed me a receipt so all was good. He was polite, on time, a hard worker and I would definitely use him again.

I usually leave a copy of the proposal after it is signed. Previous arrangements had been made to contact the homeowner later that day since she had to leave. I did not want to disturb the husband who has at home sick. However the invoice that was emailed reflected the same information that was on the proposal. No copy was requested during payment communication. A copy of the proposal will be emailed today. We thank you for the response so as to know how to better serve our customers. We value the feedback.

We had the worst ice dams in 40 years and feared leaks. I called several services but no one had time to come. Found Mike's service and they came the following day and took care of everything. They were very nice and careful of the roofs and the landscaping under the problem areas; worked steadily to minimize the cost as it was a big job.

Mike and Garret came the day after we called them, right on time (8 am). They said we had ice over an unusually large portion of roof. They removed the snow first then tackled the ice, removing all of the latter, but leaving the snow in the areas without ice. Garret came back the next day (gratis) to replace a couple of damaged roof vents - he said they might have been damaged in the de-icing process, but not necessarily. Both men were very nice. We were surprised at the cost - the quoted price was $250 an hour, but we did not realize that meant per person. It came to much more than the costs reported in the reviews already published. Note: Mike's advice for preventing future problems ran contrary to most of the expert opinion I later looked up on the web.

Stopping ice dams is simple, in principle: Just keep the entire roof the same temperature as the eaves. You do that by increasing ventilation, adding insulation, and sealing off every possible air leak that might warm the underside of the roof. Although individual ice-dam cases look different, and often result in different types of damage, all ice-dam situations have something in common: They happen because melting snow pools behind dams of ice at the roof’s edge and leaks into the house. It is virtually impossible to stop ice dams from forming. I work with each customer to ensure their ice dam issues are taken care of which involves steaming off the problem ice and removing the affecting snow. Some have a lot of ice and snow that needs to be removed; others do not and thus the price differences. This is because the difference in roofs and the situation, each one being unique. Each person has a different life situation though as to the advice I may give them as to preventing future ice dam problems. Not everyone has a home where they can install several more inches of insulation or roof vents. Because of a person’s situation, they may need to do something that works for them but may not necessarily be recommended by the “experts”. There is a multitude of webpages and books out there with a multitude of opinions all thought of as “experts”. Some say Ice dams can be avoided and this is how to do it – others say Ice dams cannot be avoided and this is why- and they all claim to be “experts”. The newer technology has leaned in the direction of not trying to stop the ice dam from forming, but to simply stop the water from entering your home. When I give advice to a customer, I consider their circumstances and what would seem to work best for them in their unique situation as per my experience in the past 12 years that I have been removing ice dams. I have customers that have been with me since I started and my suggestions resulting from my experience have helped them. Nobody likes paying the cost of steam process ice dam removal. It can be expensive. However, my rates are lower than most others. In a lot of cases, mine are 50-75% less than what others are charging. I work fast and efficient to give the customer the best final cost. If I see something that needs attention while I am working, I let the customer know so it can be taken care of. Almost all of my previous customers call me back when they need any of my services. I have many many customers that recommend me to others because they know that I am trust worthy, reliable, my rates are competitive and fair and I treat them with respect.

This morning I woke to find water dripping from the top of one of my kitchen windows. I'm not an expert on home repairs, but from what I've heard, this is a good indication that you have an ice dam on your roof. I immediately went to Angie's List to find someone to take care of this problem for me. I found Mike's listing and gave him a call. He answers right away, confirmed from my description that it did indeed sound like I had an ice dam. He was on the road at the time but took my info and promised to call back in a half hour. 30 minutes later, Mike called back and said he could be to my house by 11:00 AM. At nearly 11:00 AM on the dot, Mike showed up, I pointed him to the problem area and he got to work. It took just under three hours to complete the work, which was well within his original estimate. I found Mike's professionalism very reassuring. He did an excellent job explaining to me what the problem was, how it needed to be fixed and when he was done, gave me some suggestions on how to prevent it from happening again. I would definitely recommend Mike to anyone in need of similar service.

Water was dripping in the upstairs bathroom because of ice dam on roof. Mike was called on Thursday evening and was able to come out Friday morning before the thaw created more water issues in the house. He worked safely and efficiently to get the problem solved.

Response from MIKE'S POWER WASH
I always work quickly and efficiently to save the homeowner as much money as possible. Some insurance companies will reimburse homeowners who have had damage in the past and who have their roof snow/ice dams removed by steam method however they may not if it is done with a pick or ax causing shingle damage. Using an experienced roof snow and steam process ice dam remover will help insure you do not incur further damage to your roof.
