Concrete Builders

Work was done on time and in a very professional way. Initial contact was slow. John prefers phone communication, instead of e-mail. But once we connected, he was very quick and thorough. He came to see the site and described in detail the work to be done. Once we agreed and signed the contract, he got it done very well. The work was completed in two days.

They did an excellent job for us. The whole staff was very friendly and professional. John, the owner of the company kept good communication with us and did an excellent job. I am very happy with the work. The price was competitive. We did get a couple of other prices and they were all about the same.

We have used Concrete Builders three times now. I appreciate that John always comes out to see the project and makes the bids himself. He has always been physically present and working throughout the projects. He handles the scheduling himself, and he respected my request not to perform work on specific dates. Our front walk is built on clay, and it had been cracked since we purchased the house. Unfortunately, the people who poured the previous apron did not cut enough joints and the slabs were too large. When the clay soil heaved during the winter, it actually started pulling the brick off the front wall of the garage. Furthermore, a portion of the side wall of the garage was moving, and the side door would no longer shut properly because the frame had been stretched too wide from the heaving. Our first contact with John was two years ago (summer 2012). I had many different people out to give us bids on fixing the garage wall and side door. The bids were extremely varied--from a couple of hundred dollars to multiple thousands. Most of the people sent out to do the bids didn't really seem to be evaluating the problem in the big picture (and I doubt many of those salesmen were actually going to be involved in performing the work). When John came out, he was very honest about what it was possible to know before opening up the wall. He provided what he believed was the explanation for the movement--the apron slabs were too large on the clay soil. He talked about how to prevent further movement in addition to repairing the wall. He was the only contractor who pointed out that it might be very difficult to match the brick in the front garage wall if it had to be taken down. John gave us a fair bid, he told me things could change once he opened up the wall (I appreciated his honesty), and he explained his plan to take down the brick wall in chunks so it could be rebuilt. He arrived on time, he participated in all the work, and he fixed the wall and door without any increase over the initial bid. He cut away some of the apron from the wall, and did some minor concrete patch work to minimize future movement. The wall has not seemed to move since this work was completed two years ago. It is not obvious that the brick wall was removed in sections and then replaced. We had him do some minor tuck pointing last year (2013), and this year we finally got around to replacing the apron and cracked front walk. During this most recent project (a two day project), John and his crew arrived on time. The job proceeded according to schedule. They added extra joints in the apron to minimize pressure on the garage. Multiple neighbors have said the work looks good.

John was great from beginning to end communication was clear of timely. His crew was polite and tidy. Highly recommend.

This was our third time doing business with Concrete Builders. John Reichert was, as usual, prompt, efficient and knowledgeable. He gave us his recommendations. The work was accomplished as agreed upon (weather permitting). His employees were friendly. The work was done (as in the past) in an excellent manner and we are very pleased with the results. We would recommend Concrete Builders highly.

John and Pat were responsive, friendly, and very professional. It's hard to find someone who will even consider taking a small job like ours, but we needed to patch our front steps in order to get ready to put our house on the market. The work looks great and they couldn't have been nicer people to work with. We are very happy customers.

John is a fantastic guy who does fantastic work. One word sums it up: Wow! He is concerned about his client and wants you to know all the options available to you to get the job done. He came up with some wonderful ideas and suggestions, which we implemented. Yet there was no pressure from him on which option to choose. Simply said he is quite talented. His work is creative and precise. I really appreciate that he takes pride and ownership in his work.

John and his crew were fantastic. they showed up on time, were business-like in their approach, did everything they said they were going to do, finished in a remarkably short amount of time, took care of every detail, e.g. closing holes in a gutter to make sure if it rained that the drops from the gutter would not rut the freshly poured concrete. We would, and will use them again- next year- laying concrete on our walk from the sidewalk to our front door. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

We had a 2' x 2' hole in our basement floor that was about 18" deep (leftover from some plumbing work). The ground below the floor had sunk over the years, so if you stuck your head down the hole you saw a crawlspace that spanned the entire floor--not so easy to fill. I've been calling numerous concrete contractors over the past few months and they would either see the problem and decide not to take the job, or not call me back. After listening to me describe the situation, John came over and checked it out. A few days later, he sent an estimate in the mail. He was working a bigger job in my neighborhood in the coming weeks and found that he could save me money and time if he could come fix my basement while he was doing the bigger pour down the street. I really appreciated the creativity (knowing my job was small and a little complicated) and the estimate was reasonable, so we set up a time for him to come do the work. The whole process was MUCH easier and faster than I had expected. John and his crew (two other men) came in, filled the hole, and then came back a few hours later and did the pour. They were quick, professional, and extremely polite. When they were done, John even gave me some gratis advice about my sunken paver stones out front. Overall, I had expected this job to be a real pain, given the responses I've gotten from other contractors. But John not only fixed the problem, he did it quickly, creatively, and well, for the exact cost he estimated. My basement finally looks normal again! I would hire Concrete Builders again in a second. John runs a great company and is very responsive and reliable. Highly recommended!

Great experience! Can't wait for our next project so that we can work with John and his crew again! Not only was it exactly what we wanted but John gave us a lot of great advice along the way!

As John said, I was persuasive. Normally they do not come to the far south metro. He recognized the problem and fully described his solution. He and his crew arrived on schedule. He described again what they were going to do, making sure that we understood. Nice guy, nice crew....we would hire again.

I was so impressed with John and Concrete builders. Because of the rainy spring and my small project, I thought I would be a very low priority. John came as soon as weather permitted and I am so thankful I found him on Angie's list. I will definitely recommend Concrete builders to neighbors!

My sister and I will call Concrete Builders again if we need cement work done. It was easy to call and make an appointment. There was no calling back and forth. John was open and honest about the estimate and no upcharges appeared after the job was done. I was so thankful for John and Concrete Builders. He was the only company that was interested in doing a smaller job. Most companies just were not interested. John was on time for both appointments - the estimate and then the day the work was scheduled. The workers that completed the job after John left were knowledgeable, pleasant and efficient. They even asked if they could help carry groceries in the house due to the fact that they were working on both the front and back steps. John apologized for having to move the day the work was to be done even though it was not his fault. The City of Bloomington had not yet lifted the weight restrictions for larger trucks on residential streets so the cement truck could not get to the house. He felt bad about the delay and changing the appointment. It was no issue at all. He also hauled some broken concrete left from another project away for us. Both the front and back steps areas were clean and neat when they left. Do not hesitate to call Concrete Builders.

Came out promptly to give estimate. Job was completed quickly, as promised. Took great care to confine dust to work area. Job made it possible to easily install the tile.

John Reichert and his crew did a terrific job of describing the necessary work, filing the required work permits, prepping the site, getting the work done in a timely fashion and seeing that the job was done in a manner that exceeded every expectation. I've enjoyed my new steps and sidewalk for the past 2 years and have received many favorable comments from neighbors and passers-by. John Reichert also tapped into his considerable knowledge of other expert contractors. As a result, I used the firm he recommended for railing along the steps; their work was equally high quality.

Concrete Builders did the foundation that we had a corner of our foundation below the garage that had a big pole in it and you can see inside the blocks that they patched that. They re-grouted some joint that were cracking so it was foundation repair. They were quick to come out and very personable I guess. He was more than willing to help us out and he was flexible with the schedule and coordinating with the deck contractor.

John and his crew did a great job! John spent a great deal of time with us during the initial estimate discussing in detail the issues with the sidewalk, including drainage, the property line etc. He was also able to include an estimate for a handrail (which was installed by someone else) on the steps when other companies told us we'd need to find someone else to take care of this part of the job. | |Our job turned out to be a little tricky because one of our buttresses is shorter than the other by a couple of inches. John found a way to lay out the sidewalk in such a way that it's not noticeable at all. We've had many compliments on our new cement work, the sidewalk in particular. | |We would definitely hire John and his crew again.

He replaced the garage deteriorating foundation with concrete. His work was excellent and his professionalism outstanding. I would use and or recommend this company again.

I was so pleased to find a company willing to do a small job. John answered the phone himself, gave me a timely estimate and finished the job promptly. Best of all he did a great job and and logs so pleasant to work with.

John was very prompt in responding and providing an estimate. He did a great job on the block work! He was also honest with his opinion on using wood rather than concrete for a back step at the garage.

Small bit of background. I have a house I'm trying to rent out, and the inspector told me that I need to replace a 5 foot section of sidewalk, have a part of my foundation patched and fill in the gap between the front door the steps leading to the front door. I called John out to get an estimate, and he wisely told me that he could replace the section of sidewalk, but it wouldn't really solve the problem because in order to match the sidewalk I'm not replacing, the new sidewalk would have to tilt towards the house, which sort of defeated the purpose. So I agreed to replace the whole section. His crew came out and completed the job in one day. And, holy cow, they went way above and beyond what I had expected. The sidewalk was perfect. They raised it up about 4" and tilted it away from the house. But what really blew me away was what they did with the front steps. I had resigned myself to the fact that I would need to replace the entire set of steps within the next couple of years, which would be a huge expense. The side was crumbling, there were huge gaps where water had eroded the ground around the steps and there were large cracks all over the place. We had agreed that he would take care of the gaps by just pouring cement in there, and John had quoted me a price for that service. Concrete Builders not only filled the gaps, but also patched every part of the crumbling sides of the steps and filled in all the cracks. They also filled in a big chunk of sidewalk near my front gate that we hadn't even discussed. Just outstanding work. I wish I could put before and after pictures up to show what they did and how much better it made my home look, but I don't think I can do that. But let it be said, as long as they are in business, I'm taking all my concrete work to Concrete Builders. John is a consummate professional and seems to be personally grateful for my business. That's not something you get everyday, and I truly appreciate the job they did. I highly recommend them.

I can't say enough about The excellent job Concrete Builders provided us this past summer! John the owner, had great integrity and customer service. He went far beyond what was quoted to make sure our garage floor was secure and stable by criss-crossing his re-bar support over the base and digging out along a foundational wall that did not have a "shelf" to support the garage floor on one side. His guys created extra structural support to our foundation and filled some cracks in the block at no extra charge to us! This was a big job in and of itself to do. He also went above and beyond after he poured our beautiful new sidewalk and apron, by digging out around our front stoop and pouring concrete around the base to fill some major gaps, then filled all the dirt back in around the stoop afterward. This gave us great security knowing we would not run into issues with this stoop in the future. Again, this was done at no extra charge to us! John was delightful to work with and we had great comfort knowing we were working with a very experienced and knowledgable crew. John was on-site for the entire job, doing much of the work himself. I might add that his bid was equal or better than two others I had gotten for this job. He gave us a great recommendation for an asphalt company (DMJ Asphalt) to do the rest of our driveway, who did an excellent job for us as well. We got a few chuckles out of the experience when my daughter, in a rush to get to school(by my prodding of course), ran across and into the newly poured apron, directly in front of all the guys, loosing a shoe to the concrete in the process. The guys didn't skip a beat by jumping into action with compassionate smirks on their faces. They helped her out of the mess then promptly retrieved and washed up her shoe. They re-smoothed the apron as if it had never happened. These guys made a VERY embarrassing experience for a 13 year old seem like no big deal! I give Concrete Builders and John Riechart an A++ rating!!

It was great, He was very communicative about what was needed and timing. We were at the end of the pouring season, so had to watch the weather to make sure it was warm enough.

Courteous, prompt, knowledgeable, patient, understanding, let alone very good at what he does. I met him a year ago. I intervened many others but came back to him because I trusted him to do it well and how I requested. I was very pleased with the new front of my house!

John came out to give an estimate within a day of contact when he said he would. The estimate came be e-mail the next day - like he said it would. I sent a deposit and he was able to get us on the schedule in a couple of days. The job was done early on the scheduled day. No sign of the old sidewalk (no mess at all). They did a great job of re-leveling where the old sidewalk a dipped by the bottom step, also bringing the new sidewalk around the corner to nicely meet up with the old sidewalk that didn't need to be replaced. Very satisfied with the whole experience.
