Description of Work: We bought a Big Deal for 2 hours of computer help. It's been awhile, so I don't remember all the details, but we were very pleased with the guy. He showed up on time, was very pleasant and knowledgeable, cleaned things up, solved a couple of annoying problems, and coached us on doing some future maintenance ourselves. I would definitely hire them back again.

Response from Technical Reinforcements Inc
James Allard here, I reviewed the work order notes on this and believe that the service call was done correctly, and cannot find any fault with how Adrian conducted himself. I've included a quote from his work regarding this service call, as I think it stands by itself. -----Work order notes--------- 09/25/2012 10:45pm - 12:40pm Removed "junk software" like iYogi. Misc other cleanup, manually and with spyboy and combofix. Set up router, got Kindle on new wireless network. -------------- Their machine was crawling with spyware. I removed it as the description said. They got a kindle fire with wifi, and I had to explain that they needed to actually HAVE wifi to use it. This seemed to make sense to them at the time, and I explained everything in detail. ---------work order notes------- 10/09/2012 11:00am - 11:30am Ticket notes: Found event log full of disk errors: Bad blocks on HD 0. Client needs to replace PC, because it is not cost effective to fix. Left spinrite running with chkdsk scheduled, after explaining small chance of disk failure while running utils. --------------- This was what it sounded like. The machine was crashing because of hard drive failure. They didn't really like to hear that, and complained in the form of "but we just had you fix this computer!" but I took the time to explain what was going on and why it couldn't be repaired without completely redoing the machine at great expense. I believe it was one of those all-in-one vaios that are horrible to get into, and it was a few years old to boot. I'm surprised, because I thought I had a good rapport with them. They were always friendly and chatty. Joanne herself wasn't there for the second gig, but her partner was, and like I said, I explained what was going wrong and why. I also explained to her partner about charging a diagnostic fee and she was fine with it at the time.

Description of Work: Flat fee for 2 hours. Tech able to get our wireless router working all over the house. Been in the house 4 years, had Comcast out 3 times, paid + $100 for a Geek Squad service call before them but no one could figure it out. Had an extra 90 minutes and he looked at a few other things. He left and all the little quirks we'd been working around were fixed!!

Description of Work: After my hard drive crashed, I was interested in trying to recover the data. The owner returned my call promptly and carefully listened to my situation, after which he advised me that while he had the software tools and expertise to make the attempt, the chance of recovery was not good. He noted that there are some companies that specialize only in data recovery and the approximate ball-park price they would charge. I ultimately decided not to go ahead with the recovery, and greatly appreciated his honesty in apprising me of the possibility of recovery and integrity in pointing me to other resources -- even if I did not ultimately use them. I would definitely turn to this company for future needs.

Description of Work: I bought an Angie's List coupon for this service which was suppose to be 2 hours of in-home service time for my computer. I told the technician over the phone that I wanted a back up hard drive installed. He told me the type to buy before the appointment and I did so. When he got to my home, he could not install it nor could he do any of the other requests that I had and said he was sorry but my hard drive was faulty and the other items I wanted were not possible so he did not charge me. Since I work in landscape design I was not able to take the time during the summer to get another hard drive. I received a call in the Fall saying my coupon was expiring and I better use it. I told the caller what had happened and they had no idea but said they would send out another technician. The technician arrived and I gave him the hard drive. He said he could not install it and something must be wrong with my 2 year old computer. Nothing else seemed wrong with it. He suggested I buy a new computer and then I could hire him to transfer all of my data to the new computer. If a computer tech just suggests the best fix is buying a new computer and has no other solution but is happy to take my money, I could have done that myself. This was either the case of incompetence or a complete rip off. To make it worse, I received a statement from the company with a note saying that because they made 2 house calls and the coupon is expired, they have no other requirements to fulfill. In the time it took to get them out to my house and waste my money on a back up that probably doesn't fit my machine, I could have hired someone who could have diagnosed the issue, rather than saying I needed to replace a two year old computer. Furthermore, I will never, ever buy another Angie's List coupon as this is not a trustworthy source.

Response from Technical Reinforcements Inc
As owner of the company, and possibly more important, as the first tech onsite… I would like to respond to this review, which seems to so drastically contrast with almost every other review my company gets. I, James Allard was the first tech onsite… The primary task of which was setting up a backup hard drive. I proceeded to attempt to set up such a configuration with the hard drive provided by the client, however for love or money I could not get the computer to recognize the hard drive when plugging it in… tried different USB Ports, and various other things and just couldn’t get it to recognize. I ruled it a Dead on Arrival drive, and suggested that we come back out when he’s got another drive, because without the drive I can’t very well fully set up the backup. I believed that this certainly shouldn’t constitute the customers coupon validation, so I just wrote the time off and assured him that we would allow him to use the coupon for the next visit and that this initial one would not be on the record. That was back in Feb. of 2011.. As the coupons purchased during that time were set to expire in August, we contacted any that had not yet been redeemed in an effort to both make sure the customer got what they paid for, as well as ensure we connected with everyone we’d hoped to gain as clients through the coupon campaign. A second site visit was made, wherein Adrian Preston came up against the same problem I had, wherein the drive just wouldn’t recognize no matter what he did. Figuring the likelihood of two DOA drives to be rather improbable he went into a more thorough diagnosis than I had and came to the conclusion that the problem was not with the Drive itself but rather with the USB Controller of the computer… neither Hard drive, nor USB Thumb drives, nor any other USB device would recognize on the USB ports in question. Having diagnosed this, he advised the client of the problem and suggested a new computer might be the most practical course since repairing the system (A Laptop I believe) would not be practical. Having provided 2 site visits (the coupon is valid for a single site visit of up to 2 hours) at this point, on what was an expired coupon as of the second visit, I made the call that we had gone as far as was appropriate. The customer was given a diagnosis of a problem he was previously unaware of, which directly stopped us from being able to perform the setup of his backup… that second visit regardless of coupon would have necessitated a 1 hour minimum bill, so I considered the expired coupon utilized for that purpose and redeemed. As to the customers feeling that Angie’s List “is not a trustworthy source” I suspect any angie’s list member reading this review right now likely dismissed the man at that point as being unreasonable, but just in case they had not I wanted to make sure that our side of the scenario was represented.

My experience was great.
Description of Work: I placed a call to Technical Reinforement just to find out if they could help me with an unusual problem after installing windows 7. They were kind enough to talk to me for 10 minutes and walk me through the most appropriate next steps even thoough those steps did not include having them come out for a service call. I was impressed by the honesty of this company working to help me through an issue.
