Structure Tech Home Inspections

We were very happy with Structure Tech and Milind. We had some major issues missed by the inspector on our last home and wanted to make sure we had a more thorough inspection this time, so we looked up Structure Tech here on the List. When I arrived at the home Milind was already there and had begun surveying the house. We went through every space checking basics like functioning lights, then went back through and checked every nook and cranny more thoroughly. Milind was very knowledgeable and provided us with a lot of advice on the home. The report is great - LOTS of pictures and notes, which we found very helpful. All-in-all a great experience! Only reason I gave it a B on price is because you do pay a little extra for them over some of the others, but I think it was worth every penny.

Honestly the best money we ever spent! We are relocating from the east coast and could not be present at the inspection. As first time home buyers we were nervous that something would get overlooked without us there asking questions. We couldn't have been more wrong! George inspected the home on Friday morning and we had a full 30 page report the next morning with pictures and descriptions of issues. We were able to review the report and then speak with George regarding the results and our areas of concern. He was able to help us understand what issues were a "big deal" vs. things we could wait to fix or fix cheaply. He highlighted several "red flags" on the roof - there was missing flashing around the chimney and dormer and bunching shingles. This was not consistent with the disclosure documents stating the roof was less than 8 years old, so we started researching and turns out no permits were pulled for a roof installation in the past 20 years. George recommended that we have the roof evaluated by a roofing contractor to understand the severity of the issues. We did and it turns out that in addition to the missing flashing, the entire roof was installed incorrectly and was therefore prematurely aging. The roofing contractor told us the roof would fail within 3 to 5 years and with the immediate repairs needed on the flashing that we should have the entire roof replaced now! We were able to go back to the sellers and negotiate our offer down to cover a new roof. They were completely shocked! They had purchased the home 2 years prior and used another big name inspection company and there was no mention of any issues with the roof! We are buying an older home and expected to have issues, but now I feel confident that we know exactly what we are paying for and can properly budget for known issues that we need to address.

We are first time home buyers. We used Structure Tech for home inspection and were able to get an appointment within a day of calling, since they had a cancellation from another client. Reuben Saltzman was our Inspector and he was very patient and detail oriented. The whole home inspection for the home we had put an offer on (2,800 sf finished home + 1,000 sf unfinished basement) took around 3 hours. Reuben was very timely and arrived 5 minutes in advance of our appointment and made sure he started the dryer, exhaust fans, etc. in the house. When we reached the house, he was already checking the roof and the dryer exhausts, etc. He brought a clean pair of clean shoes to tour the inside and lay a mat inside the entry way to leave his equipment and other things. We started with checking the outside of the house - siding, backyard, patio, air conditioning unit, garden faucets and he gave us good tips on building code and if things in this house met the standard. Then we inspected the second floor, where we went from room-to-room, filling bathtubs/sinks with water, checking drainage speeds, checking exhaust fans, hot and cold water, checking windows, condition of the ceiling, a/c vents, etc. The next thing he checked was the main level with the kitchen appliances, windows, floors, walls for moisture, etc. Lastly we checked the basement where we discovered a leak from the second floor master bath. We were so glad Reuben found the source of the leak and used his moisture meter to discover wet walls from the second floor, going down to the first floor bathroom and then basement. He advised us on getting a certified plumber to get the leak fixed. After the inspection, we got our report within 5 hours with detailed pictures and comments on everything we had discussed during our inspection tour with Reuben. Thank you so much Reuben for walking us through the entire process and answering all our questions. Home Buying is the biggest purchase in most peoples lives and you made it assuring for us that we were making the right choice with this house! We definitely recommend Structure Tech and especially Reuben S. Also Lisa N. their appointments assistant is very helpful in answering a lot of questions.

Milind was prompt, very thorough, incredibly patient, and did a great job of explaining to me all of the different aspects of the home that he was looking at, and what it all meant. His report was very well organized, and my mortgage broker commented that it was one of the most thorough inspection reports he has ever seen. I can't recommend StructureTech highly enough.

The house inspector, Milind, arrived right on time. He was well prepared with all the necessary tools and equipment and paperwork. After introducing himself and asking if I had any specific questions or concerns, we went inside and began the inspection. (Note: Milind even brought his own entryway doormat for his shoes, which I thought was a great touch especially with it so yucky outside.) Milind walked me through every procedure as he was checking things out and made recommendations for ongoing maintenance. He pointed things out that I never would have thought of - for example, an outside faucet pipe should have been installed using elbow joints instead of a sloping hose that would allow rainwater to follow the pipe back to the siding and possibly inside the wall if not properly caulked. After the inspection was done, Milind made sure everything in the house was left the same as we had found it. The inspection took around 2-2.5 hours and I felt very confident that everything had been checked out and that I was buying a great home. Later in the evening, Milind sent me a thorough inspection report which included his comments, photos, and recommendations for repairs and maintenance. I was very impressed. Everything about this company and Milind appear to be top notch. It was a good experience and I would highly recommend Structure Tech to everyone.

Used this company on the advice of realtor. Milind was awesome. Upon finding out I was a first time buyer, he went over and above to make sure I understood everything - not just his findings but how things in the house worked, where the water shut-off was etc. I would recommend to anyone looking for a home, especially first time buyers!

The inspector found a very small leak in my water supply pipes. This leak did not danger the house. It was leaking underground and had been doing so for many years. The inspector even told me this himself. However he took it upon himself to have my water shut off from the street. I do not think this is appropriate for a third-party home inspector to have my water shut off without my consent. I do not even understand how that is legal to do. Now I have to waste an entire day waiting for the city to come back and turn the water back on. COMMENTS FROM RESPONSE: First of all this property WAS occupied. This company also wrongfully informed the city it was unoccupied and Minneapolis charges vacancy rates on properties. Secondly, the inspector told me himself that this issue had been going on for MANY years and was not by any means an immediate threat. Finally, I am being charged $115 from the city of Minneapolis for turning the water off. Also they wrote in their response "Our inspector waited at the property for an extra hour *after* his inspection to make sure the water was turned off.". He's there waiting _over an hour_ and he cannot take _one minute_ to pick up the phone and contact me???

Lisa was excellent to use in booking the appointment. George was EXCELLENT, very knowledgeable and after an initial inspection, he walked me through the home we are purchasing. He did an EXCELLENT job in noting defects and making suggestions on repairs. Home sellers might not be happy that he has such a keen eye, but he is a home buyers ANGEL. Spent 6 hours, and worth every penny. Thanks for the GREAT WORK! EXCELLENT!!

Lisa who answered the phone was polite and helpful. George Ury was knowledgeable and detail oriented. The home inspections report is not done through a check list. It was well written with clear explanations. Pictures are used to highlight the problems and issues. George even explained some of the issues on the spot with me. Overall I was really happy I used Structure Tech home inspection services and would strongly recommend the company to my friends.

He was very nice, funny and it was absolutely ridiculous how much knowledge he had about how a house should be. Found everything from unsound contractor fixes on the garage to improper electrical wiring. Learned so much, like when to use screws when attaching vents and when to use aluminum tape. He also put my mind at ease by dismissing cosmetic defects which I thought were more significant than I thought. His report was extremely thorough and will serve as my to-do list when I own the home - it's a complete bargain for $500. I will definitely use them again if I ever purchase another home in MN!

Our inspector, Milind Angolkar, was absolutely fantastic! He made a painstaking inspection of every single square inch of our new home. As he worked, Milind expained what he was doing, why is was doing it, and how it could affect us. He went out of his way to explain things we would have had to figure out ourselves (such as how to turn off the outside water in winter). Milind was especially amazing because our real estate agent was present for the inspection and constantly interrupted him trying to disagree about things that weren't perfect obout the home. Milind was a perfect gentleman throughout. He was polite to the agent and didn't let himself become distracted by this rude behavior. NOTICE to other home buyers: If you are using a "buyers agent", be sure to keep them away from your home inspector. Their job of "selling" the home should be complete by the time you get to the home inspection. Soon after the inspection, Miland provided a wonderfully detailed report filled with photos and explanations of his findings. In addition, Structure Tech Home Inspections made the entire process simple, by enabling us to sign forms, make payment, and receive the report online.

Working with Structure Tech company has been a great experience, from top to bottom. Liza has been very flexible is setting an appointment, and George is an extremely knowledgeable, careful, and pleasant person to work with. He spent a lot of time answering all my questions about the house, and prepared a very detailed yet easy-to-read report with many photographs. I highly recommend this company to anyone who needs a home inspection.

I needed a home inspection and when I called Structure Tech, they were able to set an appointment for me quickly. George was the inspector. He arrived on time and took time to explain what he was going to look for. He did a very thorough inspection of the exterior of the home, pointed out a few things and explained any potential problem areas or concerns he had. He encouraged my questions and took time to answer every question I had and explain why things were done in a certain way. He made a few suggestions as to how I could possibly remedy a couple of minor issues. The inspection of the interior of the home was again, very thorough. He pointed out small problems as well as a couple of larger issues. He answered all of my questions. I am a first time home buyer and had never had any experience with gas appliances, such as the furnace, and he took time to make sure I was comfortable with his explanations. Instead of just saying that something needed work or could have been done better, he explained why it was a problem and what could be done to fix it. There is a very odd attachment to the circuit box, and George pointed out potential problems with the way it was attached, explained why it was a problem and that it was something an electrician should take care of. We found a brochure about the attachment, and he took time to look at it and mentioned he would do some research on the attachment before he wrote his report. He also found another electrical problem and advised that it be fixed before moving into the property and explained why. The inspection took a little longer than expected,but that was not a problem. George was very good about explaining what he was was checking for. He showed me some things to watch for (eventual normal wear & tear) and explained how to fix things as well as what a homeowner could fix and when a professional was definitely needed. I felt very comfortable about the condition of the home after the inspection was done. George asked what date I needed the report. I gave him the deadline that I had, and he said it would not take that long. The inspection was done on a Thursday, and the report was emailed on the weekend, faster service than the date I had mentioned. I was very impressed with his professionalism. He was very pleasant to work with. I would definitely recommend Structure Tech. It was money well spent.

Great, I would definitely use this company and Milind again. I would recommend bringing a copy of the sellers disclosure to inspection if there is anything note worthy like roofing, plumbing, electrical damage in the past so the inspector can look at it closely to make sure it was repaired correctly.

This was the second time I had a home inspection done, the previous one was some 15 years ago and I can hardly remember how it was. I chose this company because of the reviews I read and the overall rating in Angie's List, so I was expecting a reasonable experience. My expectations were well surpassed however. Lisa responded promptly to my e-mail inquiry and was able to schedule me on short notice, right in the middle of the holiday season. They were flexible when I had to reschedule one day later. George Ury, who did our inspection, was very helpful, friendly, and very professional. He did'nt cut corners, he actually spent considerably more time inspecting and explaining than I was expecting, helped me discover things that I wouldn't be able to notice or figure out about the house. His report was detailed, well explained and annotated, with helpful pictures, pointers, and side information. We also had a radon test, and I asked (and Neil and George were kind enough to give me) a preliminary reading, to keep me posted. All in all, a very positive experience. If possible, I will update my review a few months down the road.

Performed complete home inspection -- service was excellent from calling to get quote, scheduling, responsiveness, inspection and completion of report. The inspector provided me very good input, answered my questions and was extremely thorough - the realtor stated they though tthe individual was excellent and would recommend them in the future. I would recommend to anyone needing a home inspection.

Milind conducted a thorough home inspection, explaining in detail as he went. He provided a nice summary with photos and links to background information. I used this report as the basis for fixing up the house.

Everything went smoothly our inspector (George) was with us for almost four hours. He thoroughly examined and explained the property from top to bottom, inside and out. He was not afraid to get his hands dirty and dove into places that we never would have looked that uncovered expensive fixes and repairs. After the inspection, he promptly provided a detailed written report with pictures. He helped explain the realities of home ownership and many of the small, but sometimes unexpected costs that come up. In the event of any future home inspections we will be using Structure Tech. To understand the complete experience, I had been given an inspection report from another company that had been performed two weeks earlier. The report did not identify any serious issues that should concern me about the property. I was not comfortable with the report and wanted to get another inspection to confirm the results. I researched Angie's List and other online resources to identify a company for the inspection. I found a winner with Structure Tech and expecially with Reuben. He was on the job early and walking all around a steep roof when we drove up. By comparison, the previous inspection company checked the roof from the ground with binoculars. Not only was Reuben on time, he was thorough in all areas of the inspection. He started by explaining the process and reviewing any issues we wanted covered.. He is knowledgeable, has extensive experience and highly professional in his approach. Something I liked very much was that he was respectful of the home being inspected while aggressively looking at everything to identify any issues that might exist. As we went through the process, he explained what he was doing and in easy to understand terms what he was finding. He made sure we understood any area of concern that needed attention. The final result was a detailed report with photos of all areas of concern. In this instance, there were several very serious issues identified that would be expensive to repair. The home failed the inspection and our offer to purchase was withdrawn. Thanks to Reuben, we avoided purchasing a home that would have cost us many thousands of dollars to repair. I highly recommend Reuben and Structure Tech to anyone needing an inspection.

We contacted Structure Tech to do a home inspection on a house my husband and I were interested in buying. We are first time home buyers so we we wanted to hire an inspection company that was knowledgeable, professional, and would be willing to field all of the questions we had (trust me- we had a lot of questions!) We were very impressed with Ruben at Structure Tech! He happily answered all of our questions and went above and beyond to make sure we understood everything along the way. He never got frustrated or tried to side step any of our concerns or questions- I could tell by his answers that he is genuinely interested in all of the aspects that go in to home ownership and was happy to share his knowledge base with us. Any issues he did find, he explained them in a way that was easy to understand. Even though we were buying the home, not selling one, I felt that Ruben had a lot of respect for the seller's home when we were there. I noticed that he changed to indoor shoes inside the home, and was very mindful to return everything to the way it was before we arrived. Yes he was thorough, but he was also very respectful of the seller and their property. Very professional. The report was very thorough and we felt like we got a great quality inspection for the price. There was in depth descriptions of the home including problem areas, diagrams to show why these were problems, and accurate pictures of the home documenting any issues. Buying a home- especially for the first time- can be stressful! We wanted to hire an inspection company that would really examine the house so we could be more confident that we were making a good investment. Structure Tech was definitely the right choice!

Structure Tech did an outstanding job with all aspects of the home inspection. I strongly recommend them, without reservation. Structure Tech returned my initial call promptly (on a Sunday), answered my questions thoroughly, and worked with me to get an inspection scheduled at exactly the date and time I needed it. They arranged with my real estate agent and the owner to get the radon probe set up ahead of the inspection date so that the results would be available with the home inspection report. I received the mold test report ahead of the home inspection. George Ury was my Structure Tech inspector. He invited me to accompany him on the inspection and took me through the entire house, carefully explaining both the pros and cons of the house and its condition. George examined every nook and cranny of the house I was considering, including walking the roof. Not all inspectors do this, but they should. I received the very complete, well documented, and clear home inspection report the day after the inspection (a Saturday). I have purchased several homes in various locations all of which I have had inspected by ASHI certified inspectors. Structure Tech's inspection was by far the most thorough I have received. I will certainly use them again.

Milind arrived later than agreed upon, but we (my husband and I) were notified by the office that he was going to be late. He was a pleasure to work with and didn't mind all of my questions. I did ask him before we began if it was okay to tag along every step of the way. He offered to have me accompany him on the roof, but I declined. He did a great job at explaining to us what he was inspecting and if it was bad/good/as expected. Seeing as we have never owned a home before, this was very helpful. The things that were good, he explained why they were good and how to tell if they were starting to not be so good in the future. The inspection took between 3-4 hours and we felt like we really knew the house after this inspection. The inspection report that we received (via download online as a PDF) was even more informative than Milind (if that's even possible). It didn't just show us a list of things that needed work, but broke each area of the house down with paragraphs and diagrams of things that needed attention. This will be a great tool as we start to knock down items on our "to-do" list. They were a little pricier than some of the other inspectors we considered, but the money was well spent. We found out the garage "heating" (an old furnace) was terribly dangerous and we were saved the cost of removal. We did buy the house and have not found any "surprises" that were not uncovered at the inspection. The company and especially Milind were a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend them and use them again in the future.

Reuben arrived early for the inspection. He performed a thorough inspection of the house for the next 2 hours. He was very professional, and friendly. Made me feel comfortable to ask questions. He explained everything as he went along. He inspected the roof and all the vents on the outside of the house. Checked the air conditioning unit and its electrical connections. Inspected the deck, all the appliances and fireplace, checked all the electrical outlets in all the rooms, checked the windows and air vents. He went up the attic to inspect the insulation. He inspected the water heater, furnace and explained all the emergency shut off valves in the mechanical room. He even showed me how to change the furnace filter. The day after the inspection I recieved the inspection report from Reuben and it had very detailed explanation of all the findings and recommendations with clean pictures. I submitted the report to the seller and they fixed everything mentioned on the report. No questions asked. They were also impressed by the thoroughness of the inspection. I am very satisfied working with Reuben and Structure Tech. I recommend them highly.

We were very please with the experience working with Structure Tech. Everyone we worked with was professional and friendly. Communication was timely and clear. I also appreciate the fact that we completed much of the interaction over e-mail / online. Our report was generated online as well and was very clear w/ severity ratings and picture documentation. Rueben clearly explained what some issues were and gave general pricing ideas of fixes and was very thorough. There were even times when Rueben was willing to push back on our real estate agent when he made some issues sound less severe. I have a great deal of trust and appreciation of him.
