The employees at Soderlin are always very professional and do an excellent job. They are very detailed in their estimate and have you sign before they do the work so that you understand what you are paying. They are a little pricey, however I guess most plumbers are.

I almost went with Soderlin because the man who came to give the estimate (also the one who would do the work; which I like, not just a salesman) was extremely courteous and seemed to know what he was doing. I went with another company because their estimate seemed a little more thorough and it was a big job.

I had a leaky bathtub faucet (cartridge-style) that another plumbing company had "fixed". However, we discovered that the faucet was leaking back into the wall and down into the basement bathroom and I couldn't figure out why. So, Ethan from Soderlin came in and diagnosed the problem. The previous plumber had inadvertently twisted a small pipe in the back of the cartridge, causing it to leak when the shower was turned on. So, Ethan replaced the faucet, spout and shower head. He also added shut-off valves for the hot and cold water so that in the future, I wouldn't have to shut of water to the entire house to work on the system. He worked very quickly and efficiently, and cleaned up after the job. I couldn't be happier with his work. And Soderlin gives you a hard price right at the beginning of the job and then they stick to it...no matter how long it takes them to complete the job. That's an advantage. Ethan also fixed a quick problem with our toilet, gratis!

I called Soderlin and was told that there was a $69 service call fee and an hourly rate for any work completed. They promptly sent a gentleman named Ethan to our home. Ethan gave my wife a quote of appr. $180 plus the $69 fee. She accepted the quote for replacing the tub spout diverter pipe. Once Ethan had this torn apart, he told my wife that this wasn't the problem and that the actual fix was another appr. $250. We didn't see much of a choice but to accept this since the tub pipes were laying in pieces throughout the bathtub. In the end we paid over $500 for a job that took less than 90 minutes (total time at our house). He left things a mess on top of it - the worst caulk job I've ever seen. I called their office to complain and was told that Soderlin has high overhead (advertising costs) and are a union shop that pays their people regardless of if they are performing jobs - we paid this guys entire wages for the day. The material cost was well under $50.
Description of Work: We had a leaky pipe in the tub/shower area of our main floor. It was leaking slowly into our basement and needed to be repaired.

While he correctly diagnosed and fixed the problem I was having with my toilet, he was way out of line with his estimate for the other work I needed to have done. It was such a high estimate that I felt he was trying to rip me off. What I really wanted was just the basic work needed to get my washing machine and dryer to go, and he tried to sell me the moon and stars. The estimate broke down as such: $676 to add a dryer vent and gas line; $1053 to replace the laundry tub and put in a new faucet; and $312 to remove the old laundry tub. In the end, I put in a dryer vent myself ($73 in parts and about 2 hours of work), and found a plumber who would extend my gas line and add faucets to my existing laundry tub for $375.
Description of Work: The plumber replaced the flapper in my toilet. In addition, he bid on a job to plumb my utility sink, to hook up my washing machine, to add a gas line and vent for my dryer, and to hook everything up.

I called Soderlin on the day I discovered the leak; they sent someone that afternoon. I wasn't at home when the technician arrived; my brother explained the problem. When I got home 15 minutes later, the technician had difficulty switching his focus to discuss the problem or his work with me, the lady paying the bill. He did the job very rapidly. The next morning I smelled gas again. Soderlin sent someone to fix the repair and at first said that they would charge me AGAIN because, "it was a different leak." After a brief discussion, they agreed not to charge me the second time. The second technician was attentive, polite, paid attention and got the job done.

Someone from the company called me a half an hour ahead of time to let me know they were coming and to be sure I was there to let them in. Then the guy was actually about fifteen minutes early (but at the wrong address, poor guy!) I think he may have been the first vendor I had an appointment with who showed up early, and one of few who was on time. He drove to the correct address and arrived at our building on time and went right to work. He explained to me what he did and it took about thirty minutes. He did find some other repairs that should be made. He wrote them up clearly and gave an estimate for the cost that broke down the price of each repair he was suggesting. He did not pressure me to schedule the repairs to be done right away; he respected that we had to discuss it as a board. He also wrote up a nice receipt for the work he did and he did not leave a mess behind. We are really happy with our Soderlin experience!

We had a very slow leak near our water meter that needed to be repaired prior to the sale of our house. The Soderlin representative was prompt and professional and explained what he was doing and why it ended up being more expensive than anticipated. We didn't like the price tag but we knew it was fair. I would hire them again.

They are great. They are a little pricey, but we have worked with other plumbers before, and we have the best luck with this company. They get right to work, and if they can't problem fixed, they have contractors on their staff they come in with other tools to finish the job. I believe that the job gets done quickly, and correctly.

Even though the representative showed up and gave me a price quote, I felt that it was so excessive if I would have had known he would have charged this much I never would have had him come in the first place. After he left, I called Tom at Zell Plumbing (also on your A list) and he said he should raise his prices (hah)! He said if I went and purchased my own unit at Home Depot (which I did for $80), he would install it for $175. Quite the difference! I feel ripped off for $59. I think this was an outrageous price quote and there would be no way I would call them again.
Description of Work: Evan from the Soderlin Plumbing showed up in a very timely manner to give me an estimate to replace my garbage disposal. They advised there would be a $59 trip charge just for the service call. I said that would be fine. After looking at my sink, he quoted me $799.00 for the job less the 10% Angie's list discount, so $719.10. After I picked my mouth up from the floor, I told him that I could not afford such an outrageous amount of money. Upon asking how much the actual unit cost, he advised about $200. So almost $600 of labor for maybe a 1-2 hour job??? I sent him on his way with a check for $59.00 and felt ripped off that I had to pay that since his price quote was so outrageous.

I called Soderlin on a Friday morning to report a water leak. They were the first out of five plumbers that I called that could perform the work on the same day. Jeff T. from Soderlin arrived on time and did a fantastic job diagnosing and explaining the issue. He spent as much time as I needed answering questions and detailing what needed to be done. I would surely use them again and would request Jeff!

Soderlin was very quick at getting someone to come and investigate the possible source of the leak. Unfortunately we weren't able to find it since there were no pipes apparently above where the ceiling was wet. Not sure where the wetness came from, but it dried over time and has not recurred. Very strange.

Now that it was obvious that I needed to replace all the pipes, I tried to negotiate some sort of consideration for the $600 "fix" I had just had but would need to get ripped out with the new work. Soderlin refused to give any sort of discount. Ethan, as a professional, should have been able to look at the pipes (as the next guy who came to give me a quote for the bigger job did) and know that there was a great deal more work to be done and discussed the options with me. I did bring up the subject of a larger job before he started the repair, so it's not as though I wasn't expecting something else to crop up. He gave me a ballpark figure of $4000-$6000 to change out the pipes. When they finally gave me a quote for re-doing all the pipes, it was over $7000 and they ignored the $600 worth of work that would have to be removed.
Description of Work: I had a leak in my basement. Soderlin had done some work on my boiler a few years before, so I called them. The plumbing in the house is old and I realized it would need to be replaced. We discussed what would happen if the work was needed. Ethan fixed the leak, and said that there was a problem with the main water valve, which I approved work on. When he finished the job, he told me that he felt something break in the main valve when he turned it back on. Sure enough, when I turned on the tap, water flow was seriously diminished. Ethan said that was too bad, but they don't fix old valves that break when they turn them or they would "be broke." Also, the diminished water pressure was due to the age of my pipes and there was nothing he could do. Soderlin left me worse off than when they arrived.

Our technician arrived at the job site and found that when he attempted to take the trap apart to snake the drain, it fell apart and split in several areas. He also discovered that the piping after the tee was lead. Not wanting to damage the lead pipe, he removed a large hair clog and installed a new trap at no charge. The faucet was leaking and so he plugged the drain as well as possible to complete the work. He discussed the problems and gave proposals to replace the waste and overflow, waste piping and shower faucet. She seemed to be aware of the condition of the piping, and that it was not to code (in fact she stated this when the tech arrived). She chose not to do the additional work we proposed. He installed the showerhead at no charge. When Ms. Kemper called back, we offered to go back with no service fee and she called later and canceled the appointment. Our 10%% coupon, as stated, is off work performed, not the service fee. She was given this discount. We gave her pricing to replace the faucet and took the necessary precautions to minimize damage to the ceiling during our repair. She chose not to complete the necessary work and so we feel we have no responsibility to repair the ceiling. Jason Arendt, Customer Service Manager

Arranging the appointment was fine. The person was on time as promised. There were no problems there. However, upon arrival, I got the impression it was a job they weren't interested in and couldn't be bothered with. Jeff spent about 10-15 minutes looking things over, took the $79 for the estimate, and took off. They said very little in the way of discussion other than essentially ''what do you want-a Cadillac or a Chevy'' (this isn't very far distant from a direct quote). There was very little info. provided on the differences and benefits of each. The price quoted for an 80% furnace was also higher than others quoting out the work for a 90+ percent furnace by about $200. I was very disappointed in the experience and won't be calling them back.
