Soderlin Plumbing, Heating, & Air Conditioning

We hired Soderlin Plumbing for our upstairs bathroom leak and repair. Our experience consisted of incompetent work, leaks, and attempting to bill us (twice) for work that was part of the original contract • Our new tub wasn’t properly vented upon installation. • Upon removal of the old vanity the sink drain needed to be relocated. We had plumber Ken return to do. We created an access through the main floor living room ceiling to re-route the drain and join it up with another upstairs bathroom drainpipe. (Since this wasn’t included in the original bid, we paid extra for this work.) • When scheduling the inspector, Ken told us to not let the inspector look at the tub drain (since it was a replacement there was no inspection needed on this work). He said it was done ‘correctly’ but keep the inspector looking at the sink drain and not the tub. • The inspector flagged the tub drain. • Ken returned to fix the issue and presented us with a $1,200 bill to fix what he didn’t do right. • My husband and I patched our living room ceiling and applied a labor-intensive Italian Carerra finish. • Soon afterward the living room ceiling began leaking at the joint where the 2 drains came together. • We fired Ken and had another plumber from Soderlin come out. Three holes were opened in the newly finished ceiling and was determined the ring around the joint wasn’t tight enough. • Immediately the blame game started saying it was the contractor (who did the ceiling) that caused the joint to leak. • My husband and I did the work and didn’t shove a 2x4 (that ran the length of the ceiling) under the pipe. The 2x4 in question had been there for years. • Jason in management insisted someone else caused the issue and refused to come and look at the 2x4 that was removed. He stood by his plumber Ken (who was the one who did a shoddy job on the tub ventilation and told us to not let an inspector look in that direction.) • We put this debate on the back burner and asked Jeff to come and finish our bathroom. The toilet, sink, and fixtures needed to be installed (the price of the toilet and installing the sink and fixtures was all included in the original bid.) • When Jeff put the fixtures on the tub and tested it, there was water on our living room floor. He had put an O-ring on incorrectly. • Jeff insisted we needed to pay $1139 for a new toilet and installation. He refused to look at the original paperwork showing the toilet and installation of sink and fixtures was included. • Jeff wouldn’t leave our property without a credit card number to pay a bill we didn’t owe.

They were prompt and the job was first rate! I am very pleased with the toilet and I would use them again.

Getting a high efficiency furnace was pretty expensive.

It was great - fixed quickly and asked since we paid for a visit out was there anything else they should look at.

I bought an air conditioner from Soderlin and hired Soderlin to install it. However, Soderlin farmed out the installation to Residential Heating and Air and I never heard from Soderlin again. Classic bait-and-switch. The air conditioner was malfunctioning. Soderlin refused to fix it even though it is under warranty. Told me that service is not covered even though other companies said that they warranty service when they do the installation. Residential Heating said that they would do the labor if I was their customer but because I was originally Soderlin's customer I would have to pay. I get that and am happy to pay Residential to do the service. But Soderlin should be paying me back. This company does not stand behind its work. Avoid at all cost. Jason will get on here and write a response, but this is not run like a family business. We have had substandard work done in the past.

I've hired Soderlin in the past and always appreciated their work, but they went above and beyond when we called them in the December '16 deep freeze. While they didn't have anyone available (it was late after hours on a Sunday night - 10pm-ish) they walked us through how to restart our boiler. It was a huge help when we really needed it, and they got nothing out of it - except our unending thanks and praise.

It seemed fine until about 6 months later when I had leakage again. I was getting bids for a bathroom remodel project so I had a plumber who was recommended by a friend look at it. He told me it wasn't properly set because the size of the wax ring used was incorrect.

I wanted Soderlin to come out and estimate replacing our dead water heater and very old boiler. They wanted $60 to visit. I see why all the negative reviews.

This company totally ripped me off on the cost of replacing my gas water heater. The actual repair that was needed was the replacement of the stuck water heater shut-off valve. I let them talk me into replacing the entire water heater even though it was still working fine. They charged me a total of $1800. I realize that the repair was made on a Saturday, but I feel that the charges were excessive even for a weekend. On a well known home improvement store website, the cost of a comparable 50 gallon natural gas water heater ranges from $456 - $684. So, Soderlin ended up charging me anywhere from $1100 - $1345 for labor. A total ripoff! Beware of this company. How they have been in business this long is beyond me. I wish I had gotten estimates from other companies before doing business with them. I rate H.O. Soderlin company a big red F.

Per usual the quality of service and level of professionalism was outstanding. They exceed all expectations.

Ken came out to repair two toilets the week of February 15. One toilet stopped working again the next week. Soderlin sent Jeff out to fix that toilet, which Ken did not do properly. This past weekend, the second toilet stopped working. We asked for Jeff to come back again to fix this second toilet. Jason called and told me that Soderlin would not repair the toilet again but would be happy to replace the toilet. He told me he did not want "to waste his time" sending someone out to repair the toilet again. Ken did not repair either toilet right. The first toilet Jeff fixed; it is unreasonable that Sonderlin was unwilling for Jeff to try to fix the second toilet. We have used Soderlin in the past. It is an expensive service, as others have noted. But we have been happy with Jeff and Jeff. We were dissatisfied with Ken, and also dissatisfied that Soderlin did not want to do everything it could do to fix the problem. I strongly recommend that others choose a different service provider: Soderlin is not committed to customer service and charge more than other providers. Jason (who I believe is the owner) was quite rude on the phone. He seem disinterested in maintaining our business.

He gave me two prices. $1144.00 for replacement of tub waste, overflow and P trap or replacement of P trap and reseal waste and overflow for $482. This company charges a $59 trip charge if no work done. I opted to not proceed and paid the charge. After getting an estimate from a highly rated Angie's List plumber, I called the Soderlin business manager and asked for a refund of the $59 trip charge. I received the refund in a timely fashion.

Service person came in to remove the water heater while we got a new floor in the basement. Then Soderlin came and did an estimate on some plumbing work. We decided not to go with Soderlin because they were high on the price. Then a couple weeks later we get a bill for $450 and they threw away the water heater. On top of that they said the cervice guy snaked the drain so they charged us for that. At no point did I see the service person do this and he never stated they were going to scrap the water heater. Called to ask them about and we got the run around. Sure we'll pay the $450, but I have already told people who are looking for plumbing our experience and I WILL NOT recommend Soderlin.

They came out to give and estimate. I hired them because the work needed to be done right away. I have nothing to really compare it to, as far as price goes, since this was the only company I called. As far as I know they did a good job, we still do not have a leak and they were on time.

Install went very well. Crew was very professional.

I am not sure if Quick response to initial call. Arrived on-time. The Tech explained options (including those less expensive), and I never had the feeling I was being pressured into anything. I APPRECIATED being told ... A) This is the issue, and this is USUALLY how it will progress over time. B) These are your options (including doing nothing). He explained what he had done to install the new water heater compared to the older one, and what new features the new one has. He answered all questions and I did not feel like he was rushing to get to his next call. The cost was more than I expected when I made the original call for help, but I am not sure if it is "out of line". Bottom Line - I have a new Water Heater that is a better fit for the size of my home as well as usage. The Installer/Tech was efficient, helpful, and knowledgable.

They are excellent, very friendly and fairly priced. They are very thorough in their work and always clean up after themselves. We will continue to use them.

They overcharge horribly, and they charge the trip fee of 229 before they tell you the final cost. That way you're stuck having to pay the high price or lose 229 and try your chances again. I smelled gas in the basement of my rental property. The gas company came, found two small leaks, and shut off the gas. Suddenly I was desperate for someone to repair the leak so I could get the heat back on. I called 4 plumbing companies and no one could come except for Soderlin. They charged the 229 before he got there, saying they couldn't even look at the issue without payment. I understood and gladly paid it because this was Saturday at 1:30 and I know it's hard to get someone to come quickly on a weekend. I would overpay their trip charge as a result, so I thought, and with such a small job I knew it couldn't cost more than $200 in addition to that. I would have done it myself if it wasn't a rental; it was that small of a project. After looking at the job, the plumber said it would cost $946, and that wouldn't include the trip fee. Further, he wouldn't wait for the gas company to turn the gas back on. When I nearly fell over at what I knew was a ridiculous price, he became rude and aggressive. He pointed out that I could take my chances with no heat. At this point I really had no choice. I needed my renters to have heat, so I told him to do the work provided he waited for the gas company to turn on the gas so we could verify his work was good. He said he would wait no longer than 20 minutes. He did the work, the gas company came, and everything checked out. When it was all done, I mentioned once again how I thought $1200 was a lot of money to be paying for 6 inches of pipe and 30 minutes of work. He got even more offended this time, and it ended with him almost screaming about how I'm a jerk who doesn't know anything, how I took him away from his family on a Saturday, etc. His tone of voice was aggressive and violent. I'm so grateful for Angie's List so others can avoid this company. I really can't believe they're business, and I feel ashamed to have been duped into hiring them.

Everything seemed to be done well. But still think that I was overcharged. Will be looking for a new plumber in the future.

Excellent. Diagnosed that the problem was a the manufacturer's pest screen on the outside that was obstructing air flow. Returned later with another screen, installed it, and left a card on my door to let me know he had done it.

They really overcharged for what they did. I would not use them again in the future.

It went fine. Turned off gas. Disconnected the gas stove & capped the pipe. Restarted my gas furnace.

We have used the services of Soderlin for many years…in a rental building and in our residence…for heating and cooling. The rental has an old style one-pipe boiler that is tricky and finicky. We find the responsiveness fantastic, the quality great, and professionalism remarkable. (And, no, we're not related!)

The only thing I did not like was the price, however I felt safe and assured the work was done accurately. They were very professional. You can be assured they know what they are doing, On time, even came early, but I was not awake yet so came back later, as to not disturb me. They seemed to be properly licensed and trained as to the cost I would think referees to the great service received.

We were able to schedule an appointment pretty quickly without requesting an emergency visit. The technician arrived on time, took the toilet apart and replaced a few parts. This took about two hours, the plumber was very thorough about finding out what was wrong before correcting the problem. The process went smoothly, he had all the tools and parts he needed on his truck. Our toilet has been functioning well ever since.
