The only bathroom in our house (built in 1947) was badly in need of repair/updating after 60+ years. We hired Sean after interviewing him and several other contractors from Angie's list and we are very happy with our choice. After a poor experience with another contractor on a kitchen upgrade 6 years ago we knew what we were looking for in terms of build quality, attention to detail and communication. We also had a pretty good idea of what we wanted in terms of design but needed some help with the details. Sean exceeded our expectations in almost every respect. He and his crew (when he had additional help) were on time to the minute. The construction area was cleaned-up throughly at the end of every day. He communicated a rough schedule up-front and then updated us daily as to his progress and/or any schedule changes of which there were few. He listened to our ideas and, if he felt there was a better way to do something, explained why. The quality of his and his sub-contractors work was outstanding. He did all of the tile work--floor and wall--himself, including a detailed custom border, and it looks great. While our bathroom is not very large any project like this which included sealing off a hallway and taking space from an adjacent room can pose some design and construction problems all of which were handled perfectly. His bid was consistent with other bids from quality contractors for his labor costs. We had the option of using less expensive (or more) fixtures to control costs a process which worked well for us. Overall, we couldn't be happier about how our bathroom turned out and our experience during the construction process was very positive. Sean's Renovations is highly recommended.
We are very pleased with the results of the project. The bathroom looks wonderful. Sean is very interested in doing an excellent job, takes pride in his work, and goes the extra mile. For example, he had to repair the plaster on a hallway wall that was knocked out to provide access to pipes for the plumbing update. He not only repaired the hole but repaired nearby cracks so the wall was in great shape when he was finished. He did a great job with the plaster repair and in creating the new woodwork, which includes a wide baseboard, door and window trim with crown molding on top. He also installed a chair rail supplied by us. Sean is very nice to work with and well organized. He was careful about cleaning up and protecting our house as he worked.
Description of Work: We had a partial remodel of the bathroom and the plumbing updated in our 1905 Dutch Colonial Revival house. We kept our existing tub, the tile surrounding it, and a linen closet. Sean also repaired the plaster in a bedroom. Sean removed wood paneling on the bathroom wall and repaired the walls and ceiling which were in terrible condition. The repair was tricky because on one of the walls, the ceiling curved into the wall. Sean covered most of the walls with 1/4 inch dry wall. The walls and ceiling looked great when he was finished. He also installed woodwork in the bathroom that matched the rest of the house. The woodwork in the house is more decorative than that in some old houses. Sean was very creative in combining parts of stock mill work to make the woodwork and did a precise job in installing it. Sean installed a new bathroom floor and the replaced the rotten plywood he found under the existing floor. He relocated and installed a new light fixture and outlet in the bathroom. He installed a new vanity and medicine cabinet, removed a shower door, and re-grouted the tile. He made adjustments to and hung an old period accurate bathroom door and made new door stops and adjustments to the existing door frame. He repaired all of the holes made for the plumbing update. We supplied the old door, the vanity, medicine cabinet, light fixture, and faucets. He used other contractors to do the plumbing and electrical work.
Sean was very thorough in discussing ideas on the remodel up front and quick to give me an estimate. On the first day, he tore out the old bathtub and shower liner and quickly had the destructive part of the job completed. The next day he installed the vent, which required some attic crawl space work. He installed the new tub, which was a very tight fit, and worked with the plumbers to get everything connected. The tile took about a week when all was said and done and he finished up with the grout, painting, and caulking pretty quickly. The job took about 2 1/2 weeks total to complete, which is right on with the time estimate that he gave to me up front. Sean was great at giving me updates via email and calling to let me know of any bumps in the road (note that there were very few). I enjoyed working with Sean and trusted him from the start. I've already got a bid from him to finish the rest of the bathroom and I wouldn't hesitate going with him sometime down the road for a bigger project.
Description of Work: Partial bathroom remodel including removal of the tub/shower surround, installation of a new bathtub + fixtures and new tile around the tub up to the ceiling, installation of a vent (up through the attic and out of the house), and repainting of all the walls and trim.

Sean came and had a look at our bathroom. He spent around 2hrs with us trying to come up with ideas that will fit our 15K budget. He suggested that for the options that we have come up with, we would not get a very nice bathroom, and that we should not get this renovation done, because it will not be worth the money. I appreciated him spending the time with us, and his honesty.
Description of Work: We gave us an estimate for a bathroom renovation.

Great - he was very helpful over the phone.
Description of Work: Sean was so helpful even though he wasn't able to do a very small job of just replacing my kitchen drawers. He asked me a lot of questions to help me figure out what I actually needed. He gave me a referral to another company that probably could do the job and he even gave me a ball park estimate of what the job would end up costing. He is all about customer service and helping out, not just getting the job. I will definitely call him when we are ready to do a larger remodeling job.

We highly recommend Sean's renovation ... because of Sean. He is a very gifted remodeler - plus he is very pleasant to work with. It's important to us to have someone we trust going in and out of our home. He is respectful of our time, and very hard-working. He got back to us with his bid quickly before we started. His prices are very reasonable and he works to help manage costs. (By the way, the $ we called out to spend with Sean does not include fixtures, or tile. Plus we had hired a designer before we contaced Sean's Renovation to help us pick out tile and fixtures. We paid for that separately.) Sean likes to work by having everything at the worksite before he starts. We were able to accommodate that on the Powder Room and that room went flawlessly - in less than estimated time. The Master Bath took longer than planned, but it was our fault as we had him waiting on things (like fixtures, designer, etc) in the middle of his work. If we had had everything on site, it would easily have been done in the estimated timeframe. Plus the issue with our sewer pipe occurred in the middle of the Master Bath remodel. Sean was a life-saver: was at our house within 15 minutes of when I called him. Sean was always flexible with us no matter what came up. We highly recommend Sean's Renovation (even my husband who is picky, picky, picky!) We will definitely have Sean back again for our next project - big or small. If you use him you will not be sorry!!
Description of Work: Services: A major remodel on a Master Bathroom & a powder room, and a face-lift on the Master bedroom in a 1937 house. In addition, Sean had to help us recover from a rusted-out pipe / sewer line which was discovered part-way through (but un-related to) our remodel. (The sewer line had negative pitch and had rusted through.) Thankfully for us, Sean was working on this job when it happened. He helped us recover, replace the pipes all the way from 2nd floor to our basement, and repaired the water damage on our living room ceiling beautifully! Our main project was the Master Bath. It used to be 'icky' peach / brown tiles - and some plastic ones in the shower. Sean removed a wall, expanded the shower, added an add'l sink and tiled entire room with granite - mix of small 1-inch tiles and large tiles. It is GORGEOUS & posh. I now love being in my Master bath and I used to hate it. In our powder room, we replaced the tile on wall & floor, & replaced the sink and toilet. The tile in the Powder room is hand-made, tough to tile, but it turned out perfect. The powder room went from old and tired looking, to elegant with clean lines, nice lighting. Sean coordinated all the elecric & plumbing work. He picked up our tile and fixtures and did not charge us any up-charge / broker fee. We are thrilled with the outcome.

Above expectations. Sean is very reliable, creative and does what he says he will do and then some. We were so pleased with his work that we had a neighborhood party brunch so our neighbors could meet Sean and see his work. It was a celebration for us and we were sooooo happy to introduce Sean to our neighbors so they could know a contractor of his quaility.
Description of Work: The 3/4 bath was very small. Sean worked with the existing space and listened to the ideas we had making the room a shower room - taking out the old plastic shower and door. He was excited to work with us as we made the tile a subway tile shape. Sean was inspired by our ideas and the tile. He carefully placed each tile (1,160 tiles) and also cut marble tiles for the chair rail height and top and base of the shower room. Sean was creative there everyday and on Saturdays some times. Sean will discuss options before taking time to point out differences. He is a great listener you can tell because his work totally reflects your ideas. One thing that turned out so unexpectedly beautiful was the cedar wood ceiling where once again he reused materials this time from our upstairs cedar trimmed closet. Sean cut the cedar down into slats and mounted them up on the ceiling making cuts that made provisions for the room's lights, heater and exhaust fan. It looks unbelieveable.
Sean works creatively and is excited about his work. His energy for our project was a great benefit in having him do the work. Works with respect for the customer's ideas and concerns embracing both. He was quick "to make our project his!" We could see from his work he had listened and remembered. He incorporates the needs and wants as discussed. Sean is an effective communicator, by phone ,in person or email, clear and thorough and is very willing explain in understandable detail whatever is of concern or needing more explanation. He proposes various solutions to the ideas or concerns. He always seems to present the best solution first, not exceeding the budgeted amount, never taking a short cut... His work is quality and reflects what the customer's needs are. If you think you want a "can do it" kind of person who will not settle for less than the expressed goal Sean is all of this and more. One night he stayed late 8:30 p.m. to wait for the delivery to ensure the washer dryer was set up correctly. A welcomed surprise is also that he will go beyond expectation as he demonstrated in his fine finishing work matching the original architectural details, suggesting we sandblast the radiators and the tub claw feet, which we did decide to do. He took the radiators and claw feet to the place where the work was done. Radiators are HEAVY but he just takes care of things for the customer. In addition the the sandblasting he had old paint matched for the portion of the hallway wall he removed to make way for the placement of the washer and dryer. His paint application is clean, quick, and professional too. He is easy to have around and in your home, as he makes a daily routine of preparing and cleaning taking the measures necessary to keep the dirt and dust at the minimum. He will do what he says he will do and is very punctual, works hard and fast and is always on site when subcontractors are working to ensure the work is completed according to plan and code. He finished in the time frame he had originally planned. He knows what it takes and gives that and more.
Description of Work: Sean was our contractor for the remodel of our upstairs bathroom and to redo a former closet space into a new laundry/linen storage area. Sean bid the work to remove the old original water pipes, removing the old floor and walls up to the chair rail height. The plan included a redo of the walls and floors where Sean prepared the sub surface for ceramic tile and the walls for new marble tiles. In addition to the bathroom remodel a former closet was renovated to accommodate a stackable front load washer and dryer.

Sean well deserves his "A" rating. He is very easy to work with, arrives on time, cleans up every day after he has finished his work and is very professional. The work he does is exceptional and he has an eye for detail. He listens to what you want done, makes suggestions and verifies with you before he does anything to make sure he is doing it the way you want. He is often booked out by a couple of months but he is well worth the wait. We are using him again to do some more re-modeling in our house.

We were extremely happy with the job Sean did for us. Having such a small space created challenges for us, and the job was very well done! He was conscientious, considerate, and helpful. The job was done in a timely manner and with far less mess than I'd anticipated!
Description of Work: We hired Sean to completely remodel our small bungalow kitchen, including: demolition to the studs, new electrical, plumbing, moving gas line to accommodate new stove location, installing stove vent hood, insulating exterior walls, sheetrocking, painting, installing new prefab cabinets and custom cabinets for pantry, removing old vinyl flooring and refinishing original maple floors, replacing trim around four doorways, installation of glass tile backsplash.
This was our first experience with a remodeling project and needless to say we were overwhelmed with the project's details. Sean's confidence and professionalism helped to alleviate much of the stress. He patiently guided us through the process and was always willing to give us advice on what would work best for the space, while keeping our budget constraints in mind. What most impressed me about Sean was his honesty and integrity. He does not tell you want you want to hear, but suggests the best options based on experience and thorough research. Sean also has an exceptional attention to detail. He maximized the use of space in our attic and designed features that make the area interesting and unique. He is a creative problem solver and doesn't settle for the easiest solution. He makes sure that the final product is aesthetically pleasing as well as practicable. We are overjoyed with the work that Sean has done and we are planning to hire him again for another renovation project. His schedule is busy, but he is well worth the wait.
Description of Work: Renovated attic into a master bedroom/bathroom suite. The work included demolition of the existing bedroom space, designing the layout of the new bathroom area, drywall, carpentry, tiling and creating custom solutions for the space.

The project went very well. When we had originally contacted Sean he was booked out for 6 months or so, but he met with us to discuss the project anyway. We got lucky when one of his other clients wasn't ready to ready to start and we were able to get going several months earlier. Sean was very easy to work with. He listened to our ideas and he gave us some great suggestions and advice as well. We had a hard time agreeing on what type of tile to use on the floor, Sean came over one evening with a lot of samples, and we ended up going with one of his suggestions. The project went smoothly and stayed pretty much on schedule, any delays were due to suppliers or the schedules of inspectors. Sean's work was high quality. He minimized the impact of the project on the rest of the house, and at the end of each day, he did a great job of cleaning up. At the end of the project, we had an issue with a grout sealing product that didn't work (no fault of his). Sean came back several times to fix it. In the end, he carved out the affected grout, replaced it, and resealed it. When we started the bathroom project, we talked to several companies. Sean's bid came in significantly lower than the big companies, which made his great work an even better value. We are very happy that we chose Sean.
Description of Work: We hired Sean to remodel our upstairs bathroom. The project involved pretty much gutting the entire room and starting over. New lighting, plumbing, and bathroom fixtures were installed. We had him tile the lower half of the walls and a large tub surround. A new floor was installed, including new stone tile. Sean also installed a custom medicine cabinet that he had built for us. To complete the project, Sean painted the room and touched up paint in the hallway.
Sean gave us an estimate in the spring to remodel the only bathroom in our 100 yr old home. He let us know that he would not be able to begin the 4 wk project until the fall. We suspected from other reviews we had read that it would be worth the wait, and we were not disappointed. Sean does wonderful careful work. He is a craftsman and a problem solver. The team of tradesmen he has chosen to work for him are all competent, efficient, and professional. Sean made sure that we had access to at least the most necessary function of the bathroom everyday but one and that one had been prearranged. He protected his work path and cleaned up after himself completely every day. When challenges presented themselves, he found creative solutions. He found the perfect doorknob and brushed nickel hinges. He even helped with a dining room painting project I'd started and was overwhelmed by. Did I mention that he is a great guy and our dog Max thinks so too? Oh and P.S. our bathroom is a showplace!
Description of Work: Sean removed the sink, toilet, tub and radiator from our 2nd floor bathroom. He removed the old flooring to allow the pipes and drains to be replaced to the basement. He installed ceramic tile on the floor and the lower part of the walls, as well as a chair rail. The clawfoot tub was sent out for refinishing; and the radiator pulled and sent to a sandblaster, and then repainted. New toilet and sink were installed. New wall sconces were hung and a ceiling fan/light fixture installed. A shower ring surround was installed when the tub returned from the refinisher. The walls, trim, and ceiling were painted. An existing medicine cabinet was refinished. A new cabinet was hung.

It went great and Sean was terrific to work with. We had some ideas about how to turn a very small (and the only) bathroom into something with usable space and he not only executed the plan well, he provided great ideas. His creative solutions and willingness to "figure things out" when surprises arose (this is an 1886 built house) were terrific. Moving the waste stack meant that they had to cut drywall downstairs in the living room. Not only did Sean find the paint that matched the wall exactly, no one could possibly tell that there was once a 4 foot long by 4 inch wide hole in that wall. His finish work was terrific. No one believes it is the same space.
Description of Work: Sean completely gutted my old bathroom and built a new one based on a design we gave him. He acted as the GC and did all the construction and finish work himself. I never had to deal with a subcontractor or delivery person (which is exactly how I wanted it). He was always there when he said he would be, or he called to let us know if he couldn't be. He kept me updated with notes every night and called when something major was coming up. I've since hired him for several other projects.

Wonderfully. I was on a long trip while the work was done and came home to find terrific closets and a bedroom that looked fantastic.
Description of Work: My bedroom had two closets that were separated by about 4 feet of dead space and neither was a particularly useful size or construction. Sean and I came up with a design to expand one closet so that it opens with French doors and contains multiple rods. Sean designed rolling stacked shelves with lips on them for shoes. The other closet was modified to contain four large drawers (which were built by one of his friends and are beautiful) and then a "half-closet" that sits on top. Sean re-finished all the doors (we used the original ones from the house - including one we found in the basement) and they look wonderful. The bedroom had been recently painted and carpeted prior to the work - but once it was done it looked as good as new.

Sean was excellent to work with throughout the entire process. He was extremely diligent, worked daily until the job was completed, and cleaned up after himself at the end of each day. The quality of his work was very good, and he paid very close attention to demoing the rooms so all baseboards and trim detail could be replaced without damage. I honestly do not have a single complaint about the work he did. Some of the standout work he did was extremely detailed tile work in both baths, a very nice walk-in shower for the master bath, perfect cabinet installations, and absolutely seamless transitions from old plaster walls to new drywall. Sean did all of the work himself, subcontracting only the electrical, HVAC and plumbing work. Also, the subcontractors he selected were equally as professional. I will absolutely use Sean again for my next remodel project.
Description of Work: Conversion of duplex back to single family home. The house was converted into an upstairs/downstairs duplex in the 1920's, which had no significant upgrades since the initial conversion. Remodel work included: remodel existing bath, convert 1920's era kitchen into master bath, and minor work moving walls and doorways.

Of all the contractors we have hired, our experience with Sean has been the best. We ran into a few hurdles as the project unfolded which required 3 trips from a plumber (replaced old shower valve, brought drain pipes up to code, reinstalled radiator and refilled system, reseated toiled, and installed new sink and faucet). Sean is very conscientious of his work, and deducted much of the plumbing work and even 1/2 of the tub refinishing costs from his bill (original estimate was $2545). He was always prompt and at the end of the day communicated what progress he'd made. He also wiped the floors at the end of each day from the bathroom to the door outside (through dining room and kitchen!) which really helped tremendously with a child and baby around. His tile work is great, flooring square and parallel to walls. He pays attention to small details. Painted the radiator and the dingy exhaust fan cover and control plate, and dressed up the window by adding trim. We highly recommend Sean!
Description of Work: Main floor bathroom renovation. Work included removing shower tile, putting in new tile backer and tiles, painting ceiling, walls, doors and trim, removing old linoleum, putting in new floor and linoleum, and changing towel bars.

We have previously commented on Sean and our experience with him. Once again he demonstrated high quality workmanship. Moreover, the ease of working with him and his price can't be beat. He is really a great overall value! We are extremely pleased with how the bathroom tile turned out.
Description of Work: We hired Sean to tile our renovated upstairs bathroom. This is a large bathroom with quite a bit of tile work. The work included: floor prep, building a long sloped shower pan, tiling the floor, tiling around the bathtub, tiling the shower area including a very tricky sloped ceiling following the roofline, installing an inset shelf in the shower, grouting and sealing.

Sean was here working on this for most of a month. He always made a great effort to stay out of our way and clean up every night. The quality of the work was great, and Sean expended lots of effort to make sure we were happy. He didn't design the bathroom, but he helped us pick out materials (he spent hours with us at the tile store) and led us down design paths. We are very happy with the result. I've had a lot of work done on my house in the past 6 years, and I've only worked with one other person I've trusted as much as Sean.
Description of Work: Remodeled main bathroom (except tub) and small bathroom. Installed bathroom door, vanity, granite countertop, cabinet, mirror, toilet and bath fan (including replacing the ceiling) in the main bath; installed medicine cabinet, sink and toilet in the spare bath; and then re-tiled the wall and floors of both bathrooms using travertine and granite in the main bath and ceramic in the spare bath. The effort included a completely custom border in the main bath that must have taken at least a hundred cuts. Reported cost includes labor and miscellaneous small parts, but excludes cabinets, tile, countertop, toilets, faucets, etc., which I bought myself. Total cost was around $10,000 including materials.

Sean was extremely conscientious and matriculate in all work performed. It was obvious he took great pride in the work he performed and had to be satisfied it was done to his standards. He was friendly and personable which made the whole project very easy to live with. The above, combined with his very reasonable price, made me feel fortunate to have found him. Thank you Angie's list!
