We loved working with Sean and are thrilled with the results. The quality of his work is unparalleled, he was really easy to work with and we are so thrilled with the finished product. He takes pride in his work and isn?t happy unless you are. Not only was did it turn out beautifully, but he gave us a kitchen and bath that is functional and built to last. He and his design partner, Kate, helped us match the rest of our 1947 home to make it look like it has always been part of the house- which was very important to us. He was readily available via email, text and appointments whenever we needed something. He and his contractors were very respectful of our home and contained the mess as much as possible. He delivered on both the value and the quality output that we were looking for. He also offers a guarantee of his work as long as we live there, which is a testimate to his devotion and the quality of his work.
Description of Work: Major kitchen and bath renovation. Took down a wall in the kitchen to make it open concept, requiring plumbing, electrical, cabinets and flooring to move. We got new cabinets and counters also. We also added an incremental bathroom in our larger converted attic master bedroom.

Sean was a dream to work with. His honest advice from the very beginning made me comfortable knowing he was looking out for me, and making sure the work that he performed was in my best interest. He asked the right questions. My house had been sitting on the market for a while and not selling. The kitchen was outdated, so I called Sean and we started making plans to get it modernized. He was careful to make sure I checked with my realtor and kept things within a profitable budget plan. He was flexible on finding solutions that worked while keeping costs low. I was dissapointed we didn't get to do the work in the end, but I'm referring him to the new owners in the hopes that they will use Sean and our plans. Highly recommended!
Description of Work: Laid out all the plans, got all the estimates and everything ready to go to start remodeling my kitchen in my 1920's Tudor home. Unfortunatly the house sold before we could get started, so the work was never performed.

This was a great remodeling experience with a terrific professional. We feel lucky to have found a place in his queue of jobs. We had drawn up some plans, but benefited from Sean's great ideas in working on the details. His suggestions for suppliers were all first rate and made the job of selecting items relatively painless. With an older house it has typically been a challenge, but Sean is particularly experienced with the older homes in Minneapolis. His subcontractors were experienced and also did excellent work. Sean showed outstanding attention to detail and quality throughout the project. He also did a great job of communication, with frequent emails to keep us informed and to answer questions. We were very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel in older house: demolition down to the studs, new walls, ceiling, floor. Sean provided us with recommendations for suppliers of hardware, tile, cabinets and counter-tops, from whom we made selections. Sean had subcontractors for the electrical and plumbing, but he did all the installation, tiling and painting himself.

Sean is very friendly, extremely knowledgable and brought a lot of great ideas and suggestions to the meeting we had with him. The quotes we got for each of the projects were very reasonable and each was described in a very good level of detail so we could understand exactly what he was proposing to do and how he would do it. We haven't yet started any of the projects but we are looking forward to getting the first one started later in the summer. Sean - THANK YOU!!
Description of Work: Sean quoted for several projects that we want to undertake over the next year - kitchen remodeling, finishing the basement, converting our 3-season porch into an open air porch, taking down a supporting wall between two bedrooms to make a large master.

Since I never had a bathroom redo, I thought it went well. Sean communicated almost daily when necessary. He and his crew were very helpful, made good suggestions, and directed me to good venders. He made sure everthing was done to my satisfaction and even generous. The work done was very well done and he takes pride in it. He cleaned up the area daily. He was easy to get along with, personable and respectful.

It is a pleasure to write a review for Sean. Sean and his team were very professional and nice to work with. The quality of the work was first class and Sean was meticulous in every thing he did. Best of all, he kept me informed practically on a daily basis which is unheard of with many contractors. He had very good ideas to provide more counterspace in a small kitchen. The kitchen is beautiful and I'm so proud to show it off. You will not be sorry if you chose Sean to be your contractor. I would use him again in a heartbeat!

We connected with Sean right from the start. His experience with renovation work in older city homes was exactly what we were looking for. Sean takes all the work personally, whether it's him doing some painting or trim work, or managing a sub-contractor like electrical or plumbing. He always kept us up to date as things progressed. We were never caught off guard and there were no surprises. He and his crew did a great job cleaning up at the end of the day. There were several out of scope items that came up and Sean was more than happy to work through them at a very reasonable price. He really listened to us about our budget and goals up front and kept this in mind throughout the project. His work is very detailed and meticulous and we are really happy with the end result. We highly recommend Sean and would hire him in the future.

Sean was great to work with. The project was right on budget, and turned out perfectly. He came up with a great plan for a fairly small space, and clearly had a lot of experience with similar projects in the past. Because of this, there were very few delays or surprise expenditures. During the project, multiple consultants (tile supplier, plumber, electrician) clearly had positive business relationships with him, which I think reflects his professionalism and good business practice. The tile and drywall are flawless, and clearly required a lot of attention to detail. Something that particularly impressed me was how he and his staff worked to make the experience as minimally disruptive as possible - each day they cleaned up all of their equipment and were very respectful of life going on in the rest of the house. We were extremely pleased with the finished product, and had a great first home remodeling experience.

We very much enjoyed working with Sean and his team. They were first class, professional, did a high quality job and Sean did an excellent job keeping us informed all along the way. He cares about quality, and wasn't satisfied with how some of the tiling was finished so came back in and refinished it -- without any extra charge. We also very much enjoyed working with his wife, Metta, who helped us in selecting the tile and then brought in some trim that added significantly to the look of the room. It was one of the easiest projects to have done in the house, given the professionalism and attention to detail and the schedule of Sean and the folks he brought in to redo the piping and gut the room. First-class team and leader in Sean, and I would never hesitate to use him again.

Sean was great to talk with and is very knowledgable. His experience and references are plentiful. Through discussions with him we were able to revise our expectations and tackle the project in a different way. We did not use Sean's services this time, nor that of any contractor, we ended up doing a toned down version ourselves with the help of a custom cabinet maker and tub/shower liner subcontractor.

I was very pleased with Sean's work and the work of his crew. Friendly, professional, and good with dogs (we have three, not the best-behaved dogs in the world). It was easy to have Sean working in the house and he performed several extras (repairing past damage to ceiling under the bathroom, repairing cabinet) for us. He cares deeply that the job is well-done and wants his clients to be completely satisfied with the work, which we are. He always kept us up-to-date and informed, and saw the job straight through (no starting and then disappearing for a while, which has happened with other contractors in the past). This was important because we only have one shower in the house, so commuting for a shower was kept to an absolute minimum, which I appreciated. If you want the job done right and a pleasant, easy-to-work-with contractor, Sean's your man. Thanks for a great job!

He was able to work up a competitive bid without having to see the bathroom (which was just fine with us, as this isn't an estimate that is final - it was just for purposes at this time of our legal stuff). His estimate was spot-on, he offered information we hadn't been aware of yet, and he e-mailed it to us within the day. We would definitely use him again to get a bid when we are ready to perform the work.
Description of Work: I needed another estimate for comparison for a bathroom remodel (plumbing, electrical, construction). We are in arbitration with sellers of our house as they did not remodel the bathroom correctly and the tub is leaking (among other things). I needed another estimate within 24 hours - I called Sean, and e-mailed him the information I had from the previous estimates.

Sean's bid was the most organized that we received--easy to understand, well thought-out, and competitive. First he put a new bathroom in our basement, which went very well. The design was good in a very small space, work was done very quickly, and we are extremely happy with our new bathroom. Sean returned about a month later and began remodeling our existing bathroom. The bulk of the project was completed quickly; it took a little time to finish off the last of the smaller items but Sean was very responsive to every issue we raised--he or one of his crew always returned the next day to respond to issues. The bathroom is spectacularly beautiful and we are extremely pleased with the work that Sean and his crew did.

It went very well. We've worked with Sean on our kitchen and the experience was similar. The quality of work was excellent, and Sean's great about closing up loose ends. We're detail-oriented people, and he worked to make sure small spots of paint 'missed a spot' were fixed. He quickly resolved a problem that occurred as part of the project, (some self-leveling compound leaked down to the floor below) and he worked to get that cleaned and back to normal. The job was completed in the time estimated, and they did a nice job accessing the work area, which involved going to the back of the second floor, through an area we had to live in during the project. In the end, we're very happy with the project and completed bathroom and finish work in our bedroom. I'd hire again.
Description of Work: Sean helped us design a bathroom remodel and did finish carpentry update on our bedroom. Small bathroom with one vanity, one bath/shower that we converted to a tile shower with glass door panels. He did demo and rough and finish carpentry, and subs did electrical and plumbing.

Overall, I was extremely happy with the results and whole remodeling process. Sean was very responsive from the beginning - sending me an estimate 1-2 days after he came to see the place. He initially was booked up, but I emailed him after the other bids came in and said it was too bad his calendar was full. He actually had an opening and was able to squeeze my small job in. He sent detailed emails of what was going to be happening when and what I needed to do on my end (ie pick out granite, go to the cabinet place, etc). They worked during set hours and cleaned up everything at the end of each day. I feel like they really tried to minimize disruption to my house and everyday life. Sean is very detail-oriented and made sure everything was executed as it should be. They had made a few scratches or minor damages when doing other stuff but were very forthcoming with what happened ( I might not have ever noticed!) and made sure to tell me about it and they made sure to fix it without any difficulties. I know people that have had troubles with contractors not finishing on-time, or being unpredictable about which days they are working; but I had NO problems like that at all. Sean and his assistant Jared did all of the work except the plumbing. I would definitely recommend Sean's Renovation to anyone. His bid might have been slightly more than other contractors, but the extra money was worth it for the piece of mind, quality work, and overall smoothness of how everything went.
Description of Work: Knocked down kitchen wall/partition, installed new header, installed new cabinets for kitchen island, removed/replaced bathroom vanity, installed new bathroom fan, new granite countertops, painted bathroom and kitchen. The price reflects all labor costs and all materials. The labor cost came in around $5000.

'We were very happy with how everything went. Our bathroom had tile and plumbing problems. Simply repairing those issues would still have cost a significant portion of what we ultimately paid, so we decided to start from scratch. We had 4 contractors bid on the job, all from Angie's List. The bids ranged from around $16,000 to $36,000. We chose Sean because of the positive Angie's List reviews, the viewing of his work at two sites, and our impression of Sean himself. We were not disappointed. Sean typically does only one large job at a time, oversees everything, and does most of the work himself, except what was subcontracted. He has high standards and will re-do work on his own if he feels it did not meet those standards. He was conscientious, sensitive to our needs, and cleaned up well. He was a very pleasant person. In a project of this size, there will always be a few scratches and nicks--Sean was thorough in repairing these completely. As a kind of bonus, Sean's wife Matte provided design ideas. We used some of her ideas and some of our own. We feel the final result came out beautifully. The final cost was higher that we thought the project would be, but we feel that was the result of decisions that we made, since we added the in-floor heating, and made tile and plumbing choices which tended to be at the higher end of the price range. We could have been more careful about this. But that was not Sean's fault. It's so easy to get carried away the all the beautiful selections available. Nevertheless, we love how it came out, and truthfully, I am not sure we would have been as happy with other choices.
Description of Work: A bathroom was completely remodeled, including construction of a shower, extensive tiling, and installation of a bathtub, sink, toilet, fan, Sola-tube, mirrors, lights, in-floor heating, and a counter with drawers. The existing bath was torn out to the studs. Sean did the demolition, carpentry, tiling, and much detail work himself. Sub-contractors did the plumbing, electrical, exhaust fan, in-floor heating, cabinet work, and some of the painting. In addition, in other parts of the house, we had a ceiling repaired and painted, two toilets replaced, and two faucets replaced.

We had our Kitchen remodeled about 10 years ago by another company. Although the final result was ok, it wasn't everything we wanted. Since we used Sean's Rens 3 years ago for a complete bathroom remodel, we knew he was the right person to call to finish the kitchen to exactly what we needed. As before, Sean responded promptly and provided a detailed estimate that covered everything we needed. We always knew when he would be here and what he would be working on that day. He cleaned up every day before leaving so we still had use of the house and kitchen in the evening. The result is perfect! The handmade clay tile we chose was a potential challenge due to the inconsistency of the cuts and the variation in the tile sizes but Sean works with these materials often. He did a beautiful job!

The bid was competitive, he gave us a start date and did start on time and continued throughout to complete the job as per an estimated finish date. They put down and removed tarps everyday, vacuumed and cleaned up thoroughly daily. Sean is personable and exceptionally courteous. He kept us informed and sought our advice where there were options. Workmanship was excellent in every detail. This is the best contractor experience we have ever had. I highly recommend him without reservation.

Sean is an intelligent, thoughtful contractor with good communication skills. He took great care to consider the possibilities for my condo renovation project, but ultimately we agreed that I myself should spearhead the project. We were having problems with vibration and had some concerns with our laundry on the second floor. Sean listened to our concerns and came up with a great affordable solution. He removed a closet and reconfigured our laundry adding several features to stop the vibration and to allow for emergency draining to the outside. He brought in plumbers to do the piping, he leveled the floor, built a counter, reinstalled the washer and dryer and painted. The solution solved all of our concerns and far exceeded our expectations.

Our 1910 four square house had an added-on 1980's kitchen and no bathroom on the main floor. We asked Sean to provide us with an updated but 'true to the period' kitchen that included a more open space between kitchen and dining room, as well as a half bath in our existing pantry space. Sean provided us with construction ideas, plans and details as well as design schemes for the new space. We also met with his wife to help design the layout and decor. Sean provided a very fair, detailed bid and was straightforward and patient as we evaluated bids from other companies. During the bidding process, he kept us updated on his estimated start date. Since he really only works on one job at a time, (and this was one major reason we went with him), we knew that we'd need to get in line. It took about 3 months to start the project, from the time we placed a deposit. This wait was worth it because it gave us time to talk through our plans, ponder design and suppliers, rehash, and get to a final plan. Sean's approach is a good one: no work starts until a solid plan for the kitchen is selected. This doesn't mean every specific design detail, such as paint colors, but it means that you don't get hung up in the middle of the project because of a lack of planning. Through the entire process, he kept us appraised of impending decision deadlines or potential issues. As work started, we communicated mainly via email and occasional through in-person discussions before or after a day's work, or via cell phone for time-critical discussions. Good communication is one of the reasons we chose Sean. This showed in the bidding process and continued to exceed our expectations throughout the project. In the end, this constant back and forth is probably what makes the project a success or failure in the end. He managed all aspects and worked hard to insulate us from dealing with subcontractors, continuing to strive to get us the best deals from all the suppliers. He doesn't add a mark up from the suppliers. We loved this because we would rather pay each person directly for their quality work, rather than have to get falsely elevated prices to subsidize the gen'l contractor. Like any project, there were ups and downs, and Sean was very good at managing expectations, so that we could anticipate times when the project would have to slow down (cabinets must be installed before counters can even be ordered). He worked hard to make our lives as comfortable as possible as we were living in the 'kitchenless' house through all this. In the final days, Sean dealt with our inability to decide on a wall paint color, completing little tasks and details (he loves doing the final details, he'll tell you). He made sure all aspects of the house were back to normal (since the remodel affected all 4 floors of the house in some way) and smoothly got us through final inspection. We're still dealing with one appliance issue that lingers, but while it isn't Sean's fault, he's been very concerned that it is made right as soon as possible--even at his company's direct expense. We're not excited to use that option and are working more with the manufacturer to deal with the problem. We trust that it will all work out right in the end, having complete confidence in Sean and his abilities. Ultimately, we would look forward to having Sean work on our house again as he was a great partner to have on such a major project.
Description of Work: Sean's Renovations provided an excellent and complete kitchen remodel/bathroom installation for our 1910 home. Sean completely remodeled our existing kitchen (last remodeled in the 1980's), added a first floor bathroom and opened/expanded a load-bearing wall. His company provided design, general contracting, demolition, rough and finish carpentry, sheetrock, and painting/finish work. He had reliable electrical, plumbing, and HVAC subcontractors of his own. He coordinated with a hardwood flooring contractor we had previously used.
