We had an emergency situation with a leaking flat roof that happened during a severe rain storm last spring. From the very first contact with JR, he put us at ease. He was professional, personable and provided an incredibly detailed assessment of our roof and what he would do to correct the situation and prevent future issues - and his estimate was quite reasonable compared to the other bids we had received. JR performed most of the work himself with one or two assistants who were also extremely competent and a pleasure to have working on our home. He checked in with us often to see how we were feeling about the progress and the job he was doing. In the end, I feel like we got an outstanding roof, incredible customer service, and I would highly recommend JR to anyone who needs a roofing job done right and at a realistic price!

During very heavy rains we discovered a leak in our roof. We called and arranged an appoint. They came out and diagnosed the issue as poor work on a previous roofing around the chimney. We accepted the bid and scheduled a time for the work to be done. Our chimney was not a standard size and therefore required custom made flashing. It took a while to install but ultimately the job was successful. We were very impressed with their professionalism and their quick response despite it being a very vusy time for them.

Owner came out personally to inspect. Diagnosed problems and gave me bids at the inspection. All work was completed within days and never leaked again. The cost was very reasonable. I asked him to take a look at the entire roof to assess whether or not it needed to be replaced. He saw no reason to replace it yet and did not try to sell me a new roof. Honest & competent & very reasonable.

Nokomis roofing came when they said they would come. The workers were very nice when they were on site. They discovered why my back porch had a small leak for 20 years. The flashing between the porch and the main house was not installed properly when the last roof was installed. My house has had terrible ice dams for the last 30 years. With the metal roof I am convinced that I will no longer have ice dams. This coming winter will tell the tail but I am confident that the metal roof will solve my ice dam problems. I am a licensed design professional and know how a roof should be installed. Nokomis roofing did an excellent job of installing my new metal roof. They understood how important it is to install proper flashing, which is an area missed by many contractors. I expect this roof to be trouble free for my lifetime.

October 2011 After initial consultation with JR he presented what options he thought best for my property and we proceeded with a new roof. The new roof installation was done with the type of high quality rarely existing anymore. The professionalism, work ethic, integrity, honesty and quality of Nokomis Roofing and JR's (owners) work is second to none. I have worked with a fair amount of tradesman and JR is a throwback to a bygone era. I wish I could find people in other trades as fantastic as him. Honest as they come. Highest Quality that exists. Stands behind his work, his workers, his products and his installation completely. Incredible value. High end materials. Extremely knowledgeable of his craft. It is rare that I have dealt with someone who inspires the sort of trust and confidence I have with JR. Absolutely true craftsmanship in his work. June 2014 service: While traveling out of the country my tenants were made aware of a massive amount of standing water on my roof. Unable to reach me a tenant took in upon himself to try and help rectify the issue. After some impressive leg work he was able to get a hold of Nokomis and JR. Nokomis Roofing (JR), without hesitation, came to my property and quickly assessed what the issue was, a badly clogged drain. Immediately JR was able to unclog and rectify the issue literally saving us from a potential catastrophe. My mistake was not previously providing him as an emergency contact. I will be doing so going forward. I would recommend JR and Nokomis roofing to anyone needing his services without reservations nor hesitation. Truly the best of the best.

J. R stopped by when I called to get my Roof assessed. He came by and told me my Roof looked like it was in fine condition and maybe had 5 years. Nice to have someone come out and tell you nothing needs to be done. Friendly and explained thing well.

JR stopped by to assess our roof the day that I called. That was great as many others were unwilling to even look at a job that wasn't a complete roof. We had a leak in our roof that has caused $10k worth of damage. We needed the roof repaired to stop the leak. JR looked at the top of the roof (which has no damage) and announced that it was done all wrong. He said that it would be around $3500 to repair a few areas. Never did he inspect the attic or try to assess where the leak was actually coming from. I did appreciate the fact that he was responsive and showed up. I don't appreciate that he wanted us to do unnecessary repairs that would have been 5x the cost that we ended up paying. Also, two other roofers said there was one issue with the roof, but that it was properly installed. I normally don't write negative reviews, but I feel compelled as I ended up finding a fantastic company who made me feel like our house and our budget were important.

When I originally called Nokomis, Lee Ann came out promptly and gave me an estimate and thoroughly explained what they would do, the warranty and showed be sample pictures to pick from. She also gave me the website for the shingle manufacturer and I could use an interactive program to see how the house would look. It was really helpful and fun. She volunteered to bring actual roofing samples, but I opted not to do that. Because of the spring rain it has been a challenge for Nokomis to be able to replace the roof. As soon as the weather improved Lee Ann contacted me and set up the time. The roof was replaced in one day and looks fantastic. The roofers picked up all of the debris from the yard. You would never know they had been hear accept for beautiful new roof. I definitely recommend Nokomis for your roofing project.

Talked to them on a Monday and made an appointment for an estimate at 1pm on Tuesday. They never came and never called. Terrible customer service!

I contacted JR at Nokomis Roofing when I discovered water dripping from my guest room ceiling, right around the place where the chimney goes through that room toward the roof. Over the phone, JR agreed with my guess that the chimney flashing needed to be replaced; he said he'd come by as soon as he could to take a look at it. He was there within a few days, and discovered that there were some holes in the roof covering near the chimney; since rain was forecasted, he covered it with a tarp. He called to let me know that the repair would be $250 less than he had originally estimated before seeing the damage, ans sent me pictures of the damaged area. The next day, he texted me to check that the tarp had kept the room dry. JR came by on a Saturday -- after a day or two of wet weather, and before the next four-day stretch of rain -- and completed the repair quickly. He took photos before and after so that I have a record of the work done, which I really appreciated. He also inspected the rest of the roof and estimated its remaining useful life -- very valuable for me to know -- and found another minor repair that he assured me wasn't urgent. He completely cleaned up afterward, and was considerate of the gardens near his work site. I was very pleased with this service -- he was honest with me about the extent of the damage and revised his estimate downwards: how often does that happen? Even though this was not a huge job, and the weather was not at all cooperative, he made time to get the tarp on and then to fix the roof before the forecasted heavy rain. I liked his follow-up and his professionalism, and will hire him again..

It went well. JR is great to work with on solving smaller roof issues.

Once the weather permitted the company was very prompt at coming out to the house and completing the work. Very happy with the quality and the service. JR has been very easy to work with and I will definitely be using Nokomis Roofing again.

They have not actually done the work yet. They will be replacing the roof in a couple of weeks. I am writing this review because of the prompt response I received from the contact that I left after finding them on Angie's List. I sent the contact on Tuesday night 04/08/14 and received an email back about an hour later that they had tried to call and didn't get me. I contacted them and they came out the next evening to give the estimate. They understood that I work during the day and did not have a problem with the evening estimate. I feel they quoted a fair price and with their Angie's List rating I decided to have them replace my roof. This is the kind of service that all businesses should provide. I will right another review when the work is completed. The reason I felt the need to give Nokomis a review on the customer service portion is because I had contacted Roofs R Us last Sunday after experiencing a leak just inside my front door after the last snow fall. They did not contact me on Monday, so I sent another contact on Monday. They did not contact me on Tuesday so I sent another contact and asked them to let me know if they did not have time or if my job was too small. I have never heard back from them. Very poor customer service - I really don't understand this way of handling a potential customer.

We have had issues with ice dams forming on our roof in the past. Before contacting JR at Nokomis Roofing, a previous contractor had done a full thermal analysis with a high volume door fan and infrared imaging, new insulation, air leak sealing and a new double deck ventilated roof system. All of this helped, but did not solve the ice dam problems. In addition to these upgrades I have been roof raking for years, which most years has worked well. However, during our periodically truly awful years, with an ice storm being followed by a massive snow fall, I always seemed to not get a complete enough job done and invariable fell behind at some point and then, more ice dams. I was getting bids done for roof heaters as a last resort last fall when I spoke to JR. He confirmed what I had read already, that cable heaters are usually ineffective and advised against installing them. Several other contractors I spoke to did not share that information with me. He offered instead to take on the responsibility of keeping on top of the roof raking for us. This has been a biblically bad season for ice dams. I am happy to say that ice dams were not an issue for us this year. JR was effective, reliable and honest. On more than one occasion I texted him about his schedule for our roof and he told me that he didn't think it would be necessary and he didn't want to charge us unnecessarily. He was right every time. While virtually everyone else in our neighborhood, and all over the cities, had terrible ice dams this winter, we were just fine all season long. Well done JR, thank you very much.

Called for an estimate last Monday. Jr said he' d come out on Wednesday (weather permitting since it was supposed to snow and it did). Expected to hear from him on Thursday. Nothing. So I called him. His cell cut out or something & was hung up on. Called back & left a vm but no call back at all.

What a great guy! JR came out as soon as he could. With all the demand in the area he got to my ice dams much faster than expected. He returned my calls ASAP and took off my scary ice dams as promised. THANKS TONS! You saved my roof!

Great service and very knowledgable.

JR came out right away and explained what needed to be done. I liked what he had to say so I hired his company. His crew came out and cleaned off the roof and pulled off the existing shingles near the chimney and stack and found that the company that did the roof 8 years ago didn't install ice or water shield around the chimney, they just caulked a lot and moved on. The crew from Nokomis did they work correctly, installing ice and water shield and new flashing and caulking over the nail holes. The leaking seems to have stopped and I would hire Nokomis Roofing again.

We returned from a short trip to discover an ice dam had formed on the valley-section of our roof. It had started to leak a little into the house and we had icicles. We took care of the icicles, and since it wasa Sunday, we took some stop-gap steps to take care of the ice dam until we could call someone to remove it. After checking Angie's List, I compiled a list of possible companies, and Nokomis was one of them. When I called, I spoke to a gentleman named James, who was not only extraordinarily courteous and polite, but also very knowledgeable. Unlike several other companies I called, he didn't just give me a quick "our rate is 'x' with an 'x' minimum number of hours", he actually bothered to ask detailed questions and give advice. He also offered to stop by our house and take a look, without any commitment, which is the epitome of honest, quality service. He arrived right away, without any of the hour(s)-long waits we have dealt with in the past, and he took a look, and explained our options. He said our stop-gap methods were sound, and as long as we took careful steps, we shouldn't have any more issues. Our ice dam was really small. We will definitely call up James in the future, should we have any more issues or a larger (hopefully not!) ice dam. I would definitely recommend this company. :)

My call to Nokomis Roofing was returned promptly, and a thorough, professional assessment of my roof issue followed. JR took time to explain the issue in terms a non-roofer could understand. He then gave me options, along with his recommendation for what the logical/best way to resolve the matter would be. I was happy to pay the reasonable price for the work involved! I am very relieved that Nokomis Roofing fixed my leaking roof and I would not hesitate to call or recommend Nokomis Roofing for any roofing needs. MT

I called the owner and set up a time for an estimate. He showed up on time. He looked over damage carefully and we was very informative. He seemed straight forward and honest. I text him the following week since I had not heard from him. I was hoping he'd do the job but I think he had some other issues that were more pressing. However, he should of at least called.

Two large trees in my back yard were uprooted during the 6/21 storm. They fell and damaged the edge of my roof where they fell. I had difficulty getting some one to come out for such a small job. Nokomis Roofing was willing and came out promptly and rewove the new shingles into place to replace the damaged and missing shingles. He gave a flat rate to come out and do this - $ 500. It seemed like allot for this small job, but I know there is a trip charge and this is a larger proportion of the cost on a small job. I think he felt a bad about this and offered to and did come out later to blow all the branches and leaves off my roof before the snow fall for no charge. Overall I was very satisfied with the working relationship.

We decided to use a different provider more for technical reasons because we were looking for a metal roof. We liked them and they seemed efficient. We contacted someone who deals with a lot of different metal roof suppliers whereas most roofing companies only deal with one metal roof provider. We had 3 roofing quotes and it really wasn't a price issue. The prices were comparable. The interaction was very good. I would probably use them for repairs rather than putting on a roof. I've heard that they do instant repairs so they are probably good for repairs.

After a few long winters, I had some wear and tear to my roof and siding that needed to be addressed before the next season. I had several companies come out and look over the damage. Some got back to me with estimates and others didn't respond. Then I called Nokomis Roofing. They were very friendly and understanding of my situation. I told them that I needed to know what was worn out or needed replacing. The folks were upbeat and confident that the problems could be repaired with minimal work done. They explained the cost options - for example, what it would be if I wanted to replace a roof seam versus repair it - and the ramifications of each. In the end, they confirmed that the work needed to repair the seam and the gable were minimal and could be done quickly. They were going to call me to set up a time to come out and fix things. Before I knew it, they were out the next day - they had found matching siding (same color!) for my gable - and had repaired everything in a matter of a few hours that afternoon. Everything was cleaned up and looked great! I was impressed with their responsiveness, their ability to explain different options, their understanding of my situation, and their overall professionalism.

All was fantastic. JR and crew were exceptionally professional, attentive and great to work with.
