Description of Work: Redo of a bedroom

Description of Work: The main job was to redo some elements in our bathroom which included new shower doors, adding a sofit above the shower down to 8ft from the 10 ft ceilings in the room, added a granite back splash to the double sink, added lighting and moved the triple mirror frame up approx. 6 inches. We also had other electrical work done in the house, adding additional can lights in the kitchen, added electical for two track lights over paintings and a couple of other rewirings. The work they did was well done. Their carpenter was particularly impressive. Our main complaint would be poor communications to us as well as their work staff and the coordination of the work pieces. For example, it would have been logical to do the painting before the new shower door doors and light fixtures had been installed. The painting was the last thing done making the painters job more difficult. He also hadn't been told correctly what part of the bathroom that was to be repainted. As for the price, it felt expensive but it did take some time to figure out exactly what could be done for what we wanted to accomplish and by then we were pretty well committed so didn't get additional bids. If the project had been a little more straight forward I would have done that.

Description of Work: Murphy Bros Designers and Remodelers has been contracted to remodel our condo kitchen as a general contractor. The effort began with a meeting with the designer. We paid a design retainer after the initial discussions and the resulting design was ours whether we continued with Murphy Bros, decided not to continue, or to use another remodeler. The designers were knowledgeable of practices, recommendations and had access to codes and standards as needed. The designers shop for selectable materials with the clients. The design is complete and we are pleased with the outcome. The design output enables estimating by all contractors and sub contractors. It gives layouts and elevations. A lump sum construction contract has been executed. The contract provides clear definition so each party is aware of their obligations. The construction has only just started and will not be complete until the end of July. To date we would say that Murphy Bros and their sub contractors and suppliers are responsive, easy to work with, pay attention to detail, and are professional. If the project continues as it has started, we will be very pleased for years to come.
