Description of Work: I hired Local Motion for my move - it was actually a move to 2 different addresses. I was quoted an hourly price and then on moving day I was charged a higher price per hour. The movers were told what items were to go to what houses and yet they unpacked and moved the wrong furniture to the wrong place resulting in much time wasted moving the items back on the truck. I did tell them of some very important and valuable furniture that they said they would give special handling but they still managed to drop and break my heirloom grandfather clock causing extensive damage to inner workings and chimes. They also left nicks in many wooden items including a large piece of wood missing from a vintage mid century modern piece (cannot be repaired) They were told where the boxes were to go and the boxes were clearly labeled to go in the basement and yet they ignored all that and put them in a different area. I had to wait well over a month before they would send someone out to repair my items (apparently they had so many damage claims it took 35 days to get to mine) My main concern was the grandfather clock and how extensive the damage was. I spoke with several professional clock repair people over the phone - they recommended I wait to have the moving company people come out first which I did but the person they sent out was not qualified to repair a grandfather clock - I had to call him back again when the chimes were out of tune and again when the hourly chimes were off. I was eventually able to adjust the clock with the help of a professional over the phone. I contacted the vice-president about the higher rate charged and he said it was because I changed the moving date from a Wed. to a Thurs. (my closing date changed) and that although I was not told of the hourly rate change that it was just too bad, he was not going to do anything about it. That was an extra cost to me of $97.00. I could understand a rate change if I changed to a weekend but I was not told of a change from Wed to Thurs and the company just simply didn't care....no customer service at this company I had called and emailed again about my other concerns and hoping to talk with them about the overcharges in rate and wasted time but my calls and emails went unanswered. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else for your move

I will address the Customer’s claims one at a time. Her first claim is that she was charged a different hourly rate that originally quoted. She changed her move date from Wednesday to a Thursday. There is a different rate on Thursdays, which was explained to her when she changed her move date. We are governed by the rates in our tariff, and cannot deviate from those rates. This is not the first time a customer has changed move dates, and our Moving Consultants are well versed in explaining the rate differences to customers in these situations. Second, she claimed there were issues with the wrong furniture delivered to the wrong place. It is standard procedure to conduct a walkthrough with the customer at each location. The Customer initialed that she was satisfied with how we loaded all her belongings, as well as that they were delivered to her specifications. I can provide a copy of the invoice if necessary. Her final complaint was regarding the grandfather clock. Our claims managers, Ryan Clark, notified the Customer that the claims process typically takes between 30-60 days to complete, so 35 days was within the time frame she was told. Additionally, the grandfather clock was repaired by our 3rd party vendor, after which he gave her final instructions on adjusting the hourly chimes. This final adjustment occurs 24 hours after the clock has been placed in its final locations. So our vendor also gave her the phone number to call the clock company if she didn’t exactly remember the instructions given. In summary, all aspects of the Customer’s move were completed as promised, including the repair of her grandfather clock. That is why no refund was given to the Customer. THEY HAVE A THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR NON-REFUNDABLE POLICY, WHICH YOU HAVE TO PAY ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. THEY DIDN'T TELL ME ABOUT THEIR PROVISIONS UNTIL A WEEK BEFORE THE MOVE. MY MOVE WAS DONE IN TWO PARTS; ONE PART WENT TO MY NEW RESIDENCE AND THE REST WENT TO THEIR STORAGE FACILITY. THEY DIDN'T TELL ME ABOUT THE SIZE OF THE STORAGE FACILITY AHEAD OF TIME SO I HAD TO THROW FURNITURE AWAY BECAUSE I HAD NO WHERE TO STORE IT. THEY DON'T MOVE IN THE SNOW. THE WORK MEN WERE HAVING A SNOWBALL FIGHT WHILE I PLOWED MY DRIVEWAY SO THEY WOULD UNLOAD MY BELONGINGS. THEY DON'T MOVE ELECTRONICS, LAMPS OR BICYCLES. I INSTRUCTED THEM TO LEAVE CERTAIN PIECES OF FURNITURE FOR THE NEW OWNERS, BUT THEY TOOK IT ANYWAY AND WOULDN'T BRING IT BACK UNLESS I PAID THEM TO DO SO. MOST OF THE ITEMS THAT THEY MOVED ARRIVED WITH MARKS ON THEM. THE FURNITURE THAT HAD BEEN STORED WAS FILTHY WHEN I GOT IT. THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE WAS $1300 BUT THEY ENDED UP CHARGING ME $2200.

BOTH CREWS CAME OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF AFTER THEY CALLED TO SAY THEY WERE 15 MINUTES AWAY. THE FIRST CREW WAS LESS THAN PERFECT; SLID FURNITURE ON FLOOR, PLAYED PIANO. IN SPITE OF OUR SPECIAL REQUESTS, THE TRUCK WAS NOT LARGE ENOUGH AND THERE WERE NOT THE NUMBER OF WARDROBES WE HAD REQUESTED. OTHER THAN THE LEADER, THE MOVING CREW WAS POOR. ONE BOX OF CERAMIC BOWLS WAS SMASHED (EITHER DROPPED OR SOMETHING DROPPED ON IT) AND A COFFEE TABLE WAS BADLY GOUGED. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM.
