Local Motion Destroyed our Belongings, Admitted Responsibility and Does Not Respond to Attempts to Contact Them. DO NOT HIRE LOCAL MOTION!!!! They do not honor their word and you will probably lose things that cannot be replaced! I really regret having to write this candid review. I really liked several of the employees at Local Motion. However, despite what I believe to be sincerity and professionalism, the company itself is unreliable, misleading, and reckless. In our case, just a ruined sofa and bed totaling approximately $5000 in addition to family heirlooms that are irreplaceable are heavily damaged. Local Motion destroyed or damaged beyond acceptable use a high end Flexsteel sleeper sofa, a Reverie adjustable bed, a hand crafted loft ladder, an antique trunk that our family brought from Sweden when immigrating you the U.S. over 150 years ago, an antique handmade basket, a file cabinet, and assorted other items. The problem was caused because the “best crew” they had loaded the truck negligently, without wrapping the Reverie bed or the Flexsteel sleeper in the bags provided, without properly securing or balancing the load, and without securing several items-just allowing them to ride and jostle along unprotected and shifting around in the truck for 1400 plus miles. They rested the sofa on the arms and directly on the grimy truck floor causing abrasion and greasy stains on the fabric and breaking the frame of the sofa. They heavily soiled the bed with the same greasy stains. It arrived filthy and with a rip of 12 inches or more in the fabric, exposing the inside of the mattress. They wedged the loft ladder upright and tight against between the floor and ceiling of the truck, splintering all four edges badly. This ladder was hand made by my father for my mom’s classroom so students could climb up,into a reading loft. She taught first grade for 35 years, retired, and although now 82 years old, still subbed more than half time until just 6 months ago. Our family heirloom, an antique trunk, was labeled with a large note warning against picking it up by the leather handles. They ignored this and our trunk arrived with both handles torn off and the wood trim on the top and edges scratched and gouged. Extremely heavy items were placed on top of much lighter items, crushing the containers and contents beneath. An antique hand woven basket was destroyed, and one hundred pound or more iron kettle was laid on its rounded edge to puncture and crush boxes of household items, the freezer was dented and the cord bent and crushed, a file cabinet dented and scratched . . . There is more, but I think this is enough to draw a clear picture. The driver was extremely late arriving at the destination. We had been told they would arrive on June 15, possibly one day early or late. They actually arrived later in the day on June 20th after promising a 9:00 am arrival. The driver did not did bother to inform us they were running behind on either the 15th or the 19th. We had people there to help my 82-year-old mother unpack on both days. They had to go home. Both promised arrival times were a no-show on the driver’s part. At first, the moving manager was extremely helpful in trying to work through all of these issues. When I sent him the photos of how horribly the truck was loaded and the damages he was genuinely upset. I had to beg him not to fire the loaders. He said he was, “completely embarrassed” and that the owner was aware of the situation and would take care of us. He took full responsibility for the damage and apologized over and over. To date I have sent many emails with the claims forms and photos of our losses. I have requested confirmation, but the claims person has not responded. Neither have they responded to my phone messages regarding the claim forms and next steps. It has now been over a month. Apparently they did not bother turn in the insurance claim either because the insurance which was included with the move has not contacted me. This has been a heart breaking situation and a shameful way to treat an 82-year-old woman and her precious memories. Again, DO NOT HIRE LOCAL MOTION!!!! They do not honor their word and you will probably lose things that cannot be replaced!

We had contracted with Local Motion a few years back and had an amazing team with that move, fast and efficient and knew time was money. The same sense of urgency didn't exist with the team in this last move. We were quoted a team of 3 for a small 2 bedroom apartment for 2.5-3.5 hours at an estimated $590-$690, my invoice came to over $1100. I sent an email with my concerns a few weeks back, but haven't heard back from them. If you are in the market for moving services, I certainly would recommend you look further! Some highlights from the move: - The 3rd member of the team arrived 20 mins late (closer to 9am): please make sure that is indicated on their timesheet. - The Team leader called me the night before to expect a call at 7:15a so they could start right at 8am, he didn't call me until about 7:50a - the two that showed up didn't start until 8:30a. - The crew unnecessarily wrapped things we didn't need to - I was told they had to wrap everything. I understand the concern for liability and such, but we had to wrap things that aren't worth $100 bucks to begin with and have already been damaged (IKEA desk damaged by me moving it, a large old picture frame I'm in the process of restoring, a bench that had water damage from being on my balcony, another bench that my dog ate the corner off) - seemed really unnecessary and a waste of effort. - The team leader was constantly on the phone and organizing in the truck, he could have been helping with wrapping or moving things quickly and that just wasn't what I expected or was my experience before with the rockstar team. - So we lived in a difficult area (lots of crime), so I stayed by the truck for security reasons. On the 3 or so occasions I went back up to the apartment to check progress, I caught the 3rd member having a break on my balcony, another time he was inspecting the contents of my fridge and freezer, and another time using the bathroom. A different time when he was down near the truck he needed to check on his private vehicle to make sure it wasn't getting towed. Seemed off and again, a lack of self awareness and again, sense of urgency.

I had used this company in the past with great results. Used them two years ago when my daughter first moved into an apartment. Totally different experience this time. They sent two men who were not in a hurry at all. Nice men, but they left without the couch then had to go back for it. Said they would take it off the bill, but it was not taken off after all. They tracked something red in all over the living room. They left the top to a table out front when they left. They scratched the apartment door deeply. They also took a 15 minute break that was more like 30 minutes and then charged us for it. I am working on the bill with them now, but they haven't talked to me, made me leave a message.

The worst ever. The guys who moved us did not secure my husbands brand new shiny red standing tool box so it fell over and was really dinged up. The crew didn't apologize. Din't even acknowledge it! Response from either of the Bills who work in the office has been horrible. It took well over a month just to get the claim processed. Our promised compensation has yet to arrive. WE MOVED IN AUGUST. Now, our messages aren't being returned, we've been totally ghosted. The first of the two crews who moved us didn't bother to cover their shoes and when they got to our new home, I had to tell them to take their shoes off. They were visibly put off. Walls were dinged, no care was taken in moving pieces up the stairs. I can let one or two go but they were everywhere. From order to execution, to making and processing claim , the service has either been a nightmare or non-existent. Saving a few bucks will come back to haunt you. I've waited a long time to write this review, hoping they would do the right thing but here I am. I can't say enough about our terrible experience. Go somewhere else.

We used this company a few years back and had a great experience so when we moved last month we decided naturally to use again. So disappointed this time! This crew did well the first day and suggested we tip. That was offputting but okay. While they were at my house the business office called about a security deposit. It felt like they didn't communicate at all. The second day of our move was ridiculous. They showed up 2 hours before agreed upon time. We were at our closing on the other side of the cities and had to get someone to open the garage and house for them. When we finally arrived home the guys were pissy towards us when we expressed frustration and blamed the business office. They wouldn't leave until we signed the form. We attempted to call Bill Apple who did not return our call. Three days later I get an email asking for a review and i responded we were not contacted back about our concerns. When he finally called back (4 days after our initial call) he responded that his men left early and we would get a $75 refund. Several weeks later we still haven't received it. I have reached out to be told that it takes quite a bit of time. Really??? They were able to charge us immediately but it takes over a month for a refund??? Ridiculous! We still haven't received it. In addition to that, our concerns about length of time and care of our stuff were dismissed by Bill. We filed claim on 6 items as well and haven't heard a word. I'm so disappointed. I normally don't write reviews but this was a stressful event and we still don't have it resolved!

Avoid this company at all cost!!! They are not punctual there employees are extremely rude, they will stand around with their hands in their pockets to the point of you having to tell them they are being paid to work not stand around all the while your being charged $65 a hr per employee, then when truck is only half full they will tell you they are out of room and need another truck, We had a contract that stated 30 pieces of furniture and 40 boxes to be moved , only 26 pieces some of which were no bigger than a small magazine holder, were moved and not a single box, the service was so bad that I refused to pay them and told them to have their owner contact me and we would discuss what I was going to pay them which is far less than their estimate. I would advise using another company if you look on movers.com they have 6 reviews also and all 6 are extremely negative the picture is of their truck when they said they were out of room , the large boxes you see are empty boxes they brought with not mine, and there was still about 5ft behind me ask yourself how that is remotely full??

We have used Local Motion a number of times over the years and thought that our loyalty might somehow be returned with good service. We were sooooo wrong. At least one of two crew members were intoxicated first thing Monday morning. I had to step in at the point where they were sliding an unprotected buffet on its side across a slate floor. The crew simply had no idea what they were doing. On the other end of the move, my son reported that the crew seemed to have little to no experience moving furniture and had trouble figuring out the most basic challenges. After repeated attempts, we received a paltry offer from their claims department to repair the damaged buffet. (I didn't even try to collect on the hole they punched in a wall) Take your business elsewhere!

Please avoid using this company. I used them for a small local move and besides damaging our walls and our exercise equipment, they cracked our new cement driveway. I filed a claim and they blew it off. I thought they were a more reputable company vs all the others, but they are not. I could go into more negative details. I tried to work and reason with their claims department but to no avail. Now I see that their website has changed. Seems even more shady now. I treated their workers with respect, helped them carry stuff, bought them lunch and gave them a tip. Then when I noticed they cracked our driveway with their truck, I went through the claim process and they did nothing. Again, don't trust them and don't trust that if they damage your stuff that they will cover it, apparently they won't. Thanks.

We were totally satisfied with our moving experience with Local Motion. Tony was always available prior to answer any questions even though none of us knew exactly what it all would entail until we actually started to move. But I emailed an itemized list to Tony in advance and so we were as prepared as could be planning for 4 man crew and 2 trucks. The move was a very long day (16+ hours) as we had lots of boxes and furniture and also needed to do a 1.5 hour drive to the new place. But the crew was very efficient, courteous, and upbeat even into the late hours. Nothing was damaged--not one scratch anywhere--and we are fussy with quality items. Everything was handled professionally. We did a complete walk through at the finish and went through all the costs including one month's storage for furniture that needed to be out for staging and it was not far off the estimate-- I truly have a hard time understanding how anyone could have any complaints if they do their own homework ahead of time. The crew was very kind to us and got along well with each other, so given the challenge of such a large move, they kept us very upbeat. All of the crew had worked for Local Motion for many years and was very experienced in what needed to be done quickly yet carefully. And in the end, one of the best parts is we can return all the boxes for total refund as we unpack!!! I don't ever want to move again, but if we do we will certainly use Local Motion if possible! Thank you Local Motion!!

Mediocre at best. The quote was poor, relative to all others quotes received. Never hire a moving company unless they come to see your property. All other quotes were closer to Local Motion's actual. Quote was way off. Moving can be an emotional and stressful process, when gathering a quote by phone, it's difficult to gauge the # of boxes if you haven't moved in over 10 years, that's why you need an expert to view your property. Movers were seemed serious and apathetic. China hutch trim was broken, dresser knobs taped to the inside of the drawer were missing, dining table wood, chipped. The best part is that the movers did get everything out of the first house into then next. Sales was very much sales, once they have your business and there's a mix up it's pretty much - "yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll see what we can do.... this will all be a memory of the past."

The move went great. We ran over on time due to my overexuberance in asking the movers to help with small things, some issues with the elevator at the apartment complex, and the movers being very gracious in helping my parents place their furniture. Overall is was a great experience and the team was super patient and nice to my parents - both slightly cognitively impaired. I would definitely hire them again.

This move was a nightmare in so many ways. 1. I waited a week and a half for a refund of a mistakenly collected security deposit. 2. I was overbilled (ultimately reimbursed after I complained) for the movers' hourly rate (or misled in the estimate I received): estimate was for $54/hr, was billed $62/hr. 3. When I asked: "Can I be assured, if I hire your team, that I will see your employees with your trucks and equipment on moving day? " I was told: "Great question; Yes, Local Motion has its own full-time employees, licensed bonded and insured. " And yet, three guys showed up (who may or may not have all been employees) in a Ryder truck (and nothing identifying them or the equipment with Local Motion). 4. The moving team were responsible for moving my furniture and everything in my kitchen, and yet when I returned to the house, I found that they had left many things behind in the kitchen. An entire cabinet was missed, and almost every drawer they had packed had some items left in it. They didn't even empty the drawers they packed. 5. They mis-assembled by daughter's bed, which I only discovered the next morning when I sat on it. When I moved it out, and reassembled it, I found that they had also lots some of the hardware needed to assemble it, hardware that had unambiguously been present at the old house, and that I had to go out and purchase before I could assemble the bed correctly. 6. The hardwood floors in the new house were damaged in several places by moving furniture around without proper padding and equipment, and moreover they had the audacity to tell me that the floors had not previously been cared for properly, as though they did not realize that I had not just walked through the house a couple hours before and knew exactly what condition the floors were in, and what damage they had caused. 7. The team was poorly equipped (or unequipped) to move heavy items, like the piano and the washing machine, to protect themselves from injury, as well as my house from damage. And don't get me started about the scheduling. I was no one's idea of an easy move, and the men who performed the service we courteous and patient, and worked very hard, but they were not well equipped or professional.

We hired Local Motion after a crew expertly moved my in-laws out of their home last year. We expected we’d get the same service, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Our 3 person crew was sloppy and unprepared. They didn’t bring professional moving supplies, were late, and were driving a rented Uhaul truck. -They did not bring furniture straps for carrying heavy items - my husband loaned them his, but they did not use it. -They didn’t know how to take apart a basic metal bed frame - heard noise and walked in to one of them holding it up off the floor and kicking it to get it apart. My husband told him to stop, and took it apart himself - and then the crew refused to reassemble at our new house and said I’d have to do it. I ended up putting it together and lugging the box spring onto the frame even though I’m 6 months pregnant and hired movers so I wouldn’t have to do this. -They decided to take apart a small 4 person kitchen table, 8 alan head bolts. They tried to use a phillips screwdriver, my husband gave them an alan wrench and taught him how to use it. It still took 25 minutes to remove the bolts (took us 5 minutes to reassemble). They then used tape on the bare wood which has caused a sticky residue to remain on the wood finish. -They slid a platform bed on its side on bare wood floors, scratching the newly refinished oak. -They threw trash in the yard at both homes (empty packing tape rolls and water bottles). -They were very careless with a heavy walnut and steel Room & Board dresser, resting it at an angle on two of its legs which were showing signs of fatigue. They tried to remove the dresser drawers, pulling on them and never pushed the release levers to unlock the drawers from the slides. They unwrapped the dresser and wanted to slide it on its side across bare wood - we told them no, we would not let them do that - it would damage the dresser and the floors. They argued with us about this, and ultimately we asked them to leave and fired them as movers during this process. -They places items in the middle of rooms, did not roll out rugs or place furniture where we requested, and they placed some items blocking doorways. I had to run into rooms and move items because they couldn’t bring more items in because they set items in the way of the doorway. -They didn’t take legs off of our two sectional sofas, but stood items up on the legs twisting the legs loose and then were asked repeatedly to remove the legs, as well as fix the legs which they did not do. They did not put the sectional sofas back together despite us asking them to. -We gave a list of items room by room, and were quoted 6 hours and 3 people. This crew did not finish in the time scheduled and the company charged us an extra $200 without our authorization. Not all items on our original list were moved even with the extra time, and my husband had to help them with several items. -One on our crew complained to me that we have a lot of stairs (split level) and because he’s a smoker, he is tired and out of breath. -Many items were banged into door frames and walls. We repeatedly asked them to be careful, to watch the walls but they did not use any more caution after repeatedly being asked. -They couldn’t figure out how to drive the moving truck, doing a 20 point turn in our intersection because they approached our home from the wrong direction and couldn’t park in front of the house. -Didn’t put down protective floor covering like we had seen them do at my in laws when they moved a year ago. -I walked in on one of them using my master bathroom toilet, door open. I wouldn’t have said no if they asked to use the bathroom but I didn’t expect to find someone peeing in my toilet with the door open. Damages: -Punctured/poked a hole in one sofa (fabric). -Smashed corner of one nightstand, corner is now crumbling off. -Ripped our mattress. -Broke off part of our wood trim going up the stairs. -Scratched newly refinished oak floors. -Several scuffs on door frames, multiple gouges in drywall. We had to find new movers on short notice to finish the job, and have been told to file a claim for each damaged item. No immediate refund on service was provided despite us asking and despite being charged more than quoted due to the incompetence of our crew. We are considering disputing the charge with our credit card company.

Disgusting service and behavior with drinking on the job, stealing a box of wine that we had received from our engagement in Italy and no apology or any type of reimbursement for the stolen items. we feel completely violated in having hired this company for our move. The claims department never returned phone calls and Ray Taggert, the company owner has been dodging phone calls and has not been helpful in getting us the proper reimbursement/refund for services. Filing a police report. This company should be shut down immediately.

They showed up with 4 people- 2 with experience and 2 without experience. Very typical. They left the paperwork at the old house. My wife had to go back to the old house and retrieve it. They also rushed my wife so that they did not move all of the furniture from the garage into the basement. I called them after they had departed and asked them to come back to finish moving the furniture in the garage. They said "Sure" but they never came back. I called the company up and expressed my displeasure and the gentleman was very accommodating. However I had to pay for another set of movers to come back and move the furniture into the basement. The first set of movers also did not lay runways down on our carpet which had just been cleaned. They did a small reimbursement for the carpet after I furnished the documentation.

I have used this company 5 times and never had anything but excellent experiences until this last move when a contractor and uhaul showed up. Not a local motion truck or employees. They “inadvertently” took a small plastic box from my new house that I had moved myself. I reported it and 2 weeks later I was told they had my stuff. After over a week trying to get it back I was presented with a cardboard box with two iPads which were mine and two key fobs for our vehicles. One was smashed and unusable. The cost to replace it over $500. Other items in the box were not mine and many other of the items in the original box no where to be found. Still don’t know what happened to the original box. They have refused to reimburse me even though this box should never have been in their possession. They offered.60 cents per pound which is basically nothing but I did sign off on that for damages or loss during shipment. Fine if it had been on th truck but it was not. They took it from me. The crew was very unprofessional and one guy took it upon himself to rearrange my clothes in the closet when he should have been moving stuff. All they talked about to each other in front of us was all the tips they got from people. As in hint hint or we may not do a good job. I am still trying to get reimbursed 2 1/2 months later but they stopped communicating with me when I said a $100 for a $500 key fob was unacceptable. This was an excellent company until they started contracting the work. Never would I recommend them again.

I hired Local Motion based on a friend’s recommendation. The day of the move, the movers showed up late and it was immediately apparent that these two were not trained professionals. They had rented a truck and came without the necessary tools and moving equipment needed to move heavy/fragile furniture. I later found out that these two were not actual Local Motion employees but had their own company who was then hired to complete my move. Not only did they damage several pieces of furniture and the house, they also informed me that, had I hired them directly I would have saved a significant amount of money. After reporting my concerns and the damage to Local Motion there was little to no action taken to make things right or explain why my move transpired the way it did. I would never recommend this company to anyone, ever.

Our moving experience was a nightmare! The company behaved unethically when they subcontracted our move with another company without our knowledge or permission. We had no knowledge of this subcontracted company until two young men with the truck the size of a U-Haul pulled up to move our two bedroom apartment. We told them the truck was too small. They insisted they could handle it. It was obvious after a very few minutes that these two young men had no real training in moving or even in driving a truck because the driver couldn't even back it up. We called the company and Corey the dispatcher assured us that the company had been vetted and they were very good. They arrived with no decent equipment like a small ramp for steps, a doorstop, wardrobe boxes, or even shrink wrap for furniture, even though it was raining. Ryan did not return our calls. Finally, after multiple calls and seven hours, a truck with an experienced crew arrived to help finish the job. A simple 4-Hour move turned into a 9-hour exhausting ordeal.

Without our knowledge or permission, subcontracted to inexperienced couple of teeneagers with a small Uhaul. Nightmare move that took over 8 hours for a 2-3 hour job. Completely unprepared. No wardrobe boxes, tape, doorstops, plastic, etc.

The guys were very respectful to us, to our home, and our items. They worked very efficiently and fast for the size of our sold home. We highly recommend their services. Great group of hardworking men!
Description of Work: We needed furniture and household items stored while after selling our home. Our new home won't be ready for months, and Local Motion moved items to our temporary living space and stored the rest, even items like a canoe and outdoor basketball stand/hoop. It was a warm and humid day, and they worked tirelessly. We asked them if they were going to break for lunch, and they said after they get EVERYTHING in the trucks they would. That didn't happen until 2:00 p.m. and they started at 8:30 a.m.
