Second time I've used IDC to fix a garage door, but at different properties. Company initially installed garage door for my rental townhome, so I called them to check on the spring warranty. It was no longer under warranty, but I scheduled service anyway. Two guys showed up, and within 30 minutes, they replaced the broken springs and adjusted the garage door. The technicians seemed knowledgeable and were very efficient. Will likely use this company again as they are reasonably priced and located near my home.

The door fell off the tracks numerous times and we had to have them come out and put it back on. After the 5th or 6th time, they determined that the wrong sized tracks were initially installed. A year ago we noticed that the raised trim panels on the actual door were separating from the surface. We emailed them and sent photos. They told us that we painted our door a dark color (which we did not) and that is why it was happening. We contacted our builder and they told us that they were never informed that the door had to be painted a light color. We were never informed either. The whole door started delaminating this last fall to the point that something had to be done. ICD said they would fix it for several hundred dollars but would not warranty it. We decided to give another garage door company a chance and had a new door put on instead of spending more money towards a product we felt was defective. Our experience with ICD was frustrating from the very start and we will never buy another product from them. We will also only buy metal doors from now on.

Our apologies that you are dissatisfied with the work that was performed at your home. We pride ourselves on top customer service and it stings when we have a customer that is dissatisfied and take it serious. In regards to your specific experience we tried to work with you through email, phone conversations and on-site visits. We documented the observations in 2013 from a door that was sold to you through a builder. We warranted your door for 5 years and a builders warranty is one year. We observed the color that you chose was not in the recommend LRV ratings in our warranty documents. These warranties come on your door at closing and also are available on our website. The door was installed in 2006 and the correspondence and warranty issues did not come through until after the expired warranty. I do not believe we charged you for any mechanical components of the door, but did offer to repair your overlay pieces for cost at approximately 300.00. In the end I am thrilled you decided to hire a company to install a new door, it is probably the best scenario for your home. We have serviced the Twin Cities for 40 years and to have any unhappy customer continues to have us focus on “What could we have done differently” to satisfy you as a homeowner. We will look internally at everything to see if we missed something on our end. We do have a pretty sophisticated computer system that saves all correspondence and if there was complaints or any communication during the warranty period we would have fixed it no questions asked. We felt that offering time and materials to replace boards was a goodwill effort and we apologize that you felt it should be for free.

The service man suggested using two springs instead of the single that was org. equip. This would keep the overhead door from falling if the spring broke as it did this time. Very small upcharge, good work quickly done I'm pleased.

The service went well. The company came out and gave a free estimate in August. The initial service appointment had to be delayed because the incorrect part was ordered - installer was very apologetic and professional about the delay. Once the correct part was ordered, the installer came out a second time and finished within an hour.

Used the Angie's List coupon for replacement of 2 torsion springs on my 2 stall garage door. The tech showed up on time and was very friendly. He replaced the springs quickly and even lubricated all the hinges and rollers on the garage door. I'm planning on replacing the garage door opener myself and he gave me a few tips there. Overall a great experience, would definitely hire them again.

Garage door cable broke in January. This caused door to jam against track and get stuck partially open. This is never good, but timing couldn't be worse during our cold MN winter. IDC-Automatic came out the next day. Technician called and asked to come early. He was professional and very very efficient. He re-straightened the bent track and quickly replaced the cables. 10 minutes later, I signed-off on the work and had an operational garage once again.

The workman showed up on time and the job took as long and he said it would. The workspace was cleaned up well after he was done. The door has worked well and look good. I've had it for 8 months now. Right after the door was installed I though the spring was a bit tight. After a few months the spring seams perfect tension. This is the second door I have purchased from this company. I got one for my mother's garage many years ago and thought they did a good job with that one as well.

We were told by another garage door company that our springs had sprung on our 60 year old garage door. When IDC arrived, they thought we didn't need a new garage door or new springs but just four new pulleys. That did the trick! IDC said if we needed springs replaced in the future that they could custom build them. Long story short, we didn't need a new garage door like the competitor stated and they saved us at least $1,300!

I got three quotes for the repair and IDC was the lowest. Also they had installed the original garage doors for my townhouse complex, so they were familiar with the model. The tech came on time, was very professional and replaced the bottom section of the garage door. He also oiled the moving parts which made the movement of the door much quieter. I was very pleased with the service and would definitely call IDC again.

The cable on one side of our garage door broke on a Saturday. The door partially fell down, damaged some of its wheels, and became stuck. The provider offered to come to our home immediately to repair the door, but noted that there would be an extra cost for emergency service. We opted to have them come during normal hours on Monday. They came when promised, fixed the problem quickly, tuned up the door, and all was well. Great experience.

We got a quote on the door and the price was within our budget and the options seemed to be higher quality then most others. We toured their plant and then picked all the final details. We then had our doors custom made for us after the salesperson came out on our time to measure our existing doors. It took exactly what was expected to build them. The scheduling person called, set and time and the installing team came out-on time. Everyone was friendly and professional.
Description of Work: I felt like I should recommend this company to others. We researched wood garage doors and many companies. We chose idc-automatic because of the service from the salesman to the personalized tour they gave us of the manufacturing facility. The doors came out on time and absolutely beautiful! They have changed the whole appearance of our home. The installers were professional and kind. Friendly, professional and fast company!

continued from above....... Monday morning ? call scheduler (sales rep is out and scheduler is out so talk to backup scheduler) and tell him water is pouring through the roof, he says he will call the installer ? but nothing gets done?..rains again and have to empty every few hours?..water everywhere all day and that night Monday night --- it rains and water continues to pour in through the roof Tuesday ? take 2 hours off work to wait for electrician who shows up 25 minutes late and says ?I have no idea how to do this?. We let electrician know about water leaking?.it begins raining and he sees it and then calls installer?.?water is pouring in here? he says on the phone. Somehow electrician completes his work but misses two things (due to missing or wrong parts or ???): 1) Temperature gauge for downstairs fan is 1/4? away from fireplace so fan doesn?t go on until 45-60 minutes after fireplace is on. 2) Fireplace fan is installed with on/off switch instead of rheostat (speed control) which causes another issue (see below). Wednesday ? inspections ? interestingly passes inspections? Thursday, March 24th ? installer comes to finish work and just now realizes that the ?front? for the fireplace was not included. He leaves with several issues open: 1) We specifically discussed (and our contract stated) the wall switch, not the remote, "Multi-Function Wall Switch ? Thermostat/3-speed fan/back burner timer & Clock?, but they install with remote. 2) The temperature sensor that allows the basement fan to turn on (Versi-heat system) once the unit heats up is mounted 1/2 inch or so off the firebox and so doesn't heat up / turn on for 45 minutes to 60 minutes. 3) Fireplace fan is extremely loud. Installer says that this is common with the Mendota fireplaces and goes away after 3 weeks of use.....I highly doubt it could with how loud it is - but if it doesn't we need to talk about replacing it with another fan system or replacing the fan. The one on the DXV-35 in the store was certainly not this loud. (Ultimately had to be replaced). 4) Vermiculite and coals not placed correctly. Drove to the store to verify this and I?m correct ? they were installed incorrectly in our fireplace. My High School daughter got home from school, took one look at it and said, ?it looks horrible?. Second burner is left completely uncovered, left of burners is completely uncovered, inside firebrick is not aligned correctly (there is a large gap in upper right hand corner), bottom of unit does not have coals on, etc. Placement of coals, etc. is clearly called out in the manual. 5) Millenia Fronts - still need to be ordered and installed. 6) The firebricks are not installed correctly. On the left side there is no gap, but on the right side there is a pretty significant gap between the back and the right side firebrick "panels". 7) Versi-heat system installed to bring hot air down between open space in two studs in the basement. Talked to inspector and he said that hot air side should always be in ducts?.so I installed ducts myself. 8) Versi-heat system blows mildly warm air into the basement. This needs to be corrected. Just a side note: Installer left the area pretty "dirty": Plasterboard on top of fireplace (inside unit), sawdust and plasterboard pieces in several locations (we already cleaned it up but thought Summit should know for the future). Also (and more importantly) - left a piece of wood about 4" wide by 8" long directly touching the chimney for the wood burning fireplace behind the gas fireplace. The electric cord for the thermostat is also pushed up against that chimney. I had to have to have my daughter climb back down in there to remove those or we would have had a fire in the house. I'm guessing he was in a hurry or had to get onto another job, but it was pretty unprofessional (and the components against the fireplace would have (not just might have) caused a fire if I had not looked back to discover those and taken care of the issue). Thursday, March 24th ? Sales rep made aware of issue of missing front and is supposed to call back to let me know when it will be in. Saturday, March 26th ? Stop by Woodbury Store to validate above items are installed incorrectly. Also ? talk to sales rep who still doesn?t know when front will be in. Go through most of the issues above. Sales rep says he trusts installer implicitly. (Side note: I don?t ? as I?m not sure if he?s installed a Mendota before ? plus why would there be so many issues). Sales rep says he will call back on Monday with status on order and with what happened with the wall panel/remote (he said wall panel might no longer be available). Week of March 28th ? still not complete and will be another week or two??? Who knows? Monday morning (March 28th) ? Have not heard back from sales person on when the face will be in and the status on remote. I have given up on following up on this issue?so will probably not call him and follow-up?.but if I could get the e-mail address for the store manager maybe will make him aware so I might be able to get some help. On-going diary of issues (updated Monday, April 4, 2011 at 2:50PM) Clearly this is a company that does not care about customer service. It is impossible to get ahold of anyone (they don?t answer their phone nor return calls, faxes, or e-mails) and I am sitting here waiting to hear from them on when they will get the parts in and finish the work. They were supposed to call last Monday, March 28th, with a date for install of the missing front and correction of the other issues. On Monday March 28th or Tuesday, March 29th, (NOT HAVING ANYONE ANSWER WHEN I CALLED VIA PHONE) I left an e-mail on their ?contact us? area on the internet asking to have the contact info (phone number and e-mail address) of the manager Bob Bennett e-mailed to me so I could contact him. As of Monday, April 4, 2011, I have had no response to my e-mail (included e-mail address on the e-mail I sent). Trying a different approach I faxed the above message to Bob Bennett on Tuesday night, March 29, 2011, giving him an opportunity to jump in and make sure that things were taken care of. As of Monday, April 4, 2011, I have had no response to my fax (included phone number on the fax). At this point, as of Monday of last week, I was supposed to have heard from them and have heard nothing. No one has responded to my e-mail requesting contact information. No one has responded to my fax from last Tuesday night. Today (April 4th) at around 2:40 PM, I left a voicemail (they didn?t answer the phone once again) at the Summit Home Center Champlin Store (where supposedly Bob Bennett the manager works out of) requesting contact info for Bob Bennett and also for the store owner (phone number and e-mail address) to be sent to me ASAP. 40 minutes later I have not heard back??doubt that I will. (Never did hear back from the store manager or owner ? they don?t care ? but the sales rep did call back (see update below from 4/5) Another item to be resolved not capture above: The fireplace will not start with the switch underneath the fireplace (supposed to be used to start the fireplace in the case of power outages (one of the main reasons I got the fireplace in the first place)). This need to be corrected as well. We are absolutely sick of dealing with this and at this point I would just rather have them cancel the rest of the contract (we put 50% down) and we would hire someone else to complete the fireplace, install, check-out, and resolve the open remaining issues. Update Tuesday, April 05, 2011, 4:25 PM At 4:00 PM finally received a call from our sales person John S because he received our phone message from the Champlin store. (NOTE: Still the manager refuses to call me back nor will they answer their phone at the Champlin store. I have never experienced this poor of service before in dealing with hundreds of companies). John had no update for me ? but said ?if you just give me 12-15 hours I will get back to you with a status update?. A status update ? not a date for resolution, not a ?Sorry we?re taking so long?, not a escalation, but a status update. One month late and I need to escalate to their management for a status update???? April 6th -- Finally get a call from the Manager at IDC who at least offers and apology, and slowly moves things forward. I?m sick of the whole situation and documenting everything at this point, but still takes 34 e-mails back and forth between 4/6/11 and 4/28/11 before the final fireplace installation was complete. They refused any compensation for our out of pocket costs and would not provide any credit for the $500+ in components estimated but not used in our installation. They did provide a free granite install (they gave us cracked granite) (worth $710) and graciously (sarcasm) credited us for the versi-heat system (which didn?t work at all). We offered them an opportunity to add any comments to my narrative above and they refused and said, ?I can not stop you from stating your opinions and you are entitled? and offered no response.
Description of Work: THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH AUTOMATIC GARAGE DOORS & FIREPLACES (aka SUMMIT HOME CENTER) (aka Industrial Door Company (IDC)) – WHAT A FIASCO! We ordered a fireplace on February 19, 2011 with a promised install date of March 4, 2011. The fireplace was finally installed on April 28th (almost 2 months late). On April 1st, IDC bought Automatic and performed just as poorly as the original company in taking care of our issues. I even told them we were going to post a review on Angie’s List and ask for their comments and they refused to provide any corrections or updates. In addition to all the hassles with installation, we were charged for over $500 in materials that never got used (we were told the chimney needed to be 2-3’ ABOVE our existing chimney and yet it was placed below the existing chimney) and had over $1500 in out of pocket costs (additional contractor work, vacation time, additional supplies) to complete the fireplace install they refused to reimburse. I acknowledge they did do a free installation of (cracked) granite around the fireplace and credited back to us the versiheat system which doesn’t work (we would rather have it removed as it’s just an eyesore). Summary: Automatic Garage Doors & Fireplaces / Summit Home Center (2/19/11 – 4/5/11) February 19, 2011 – Placed order for fireplace --- install promised on March 4, 2011 Feb 19 – April 5th – 20+ phone calls following up to move things along / following-up on status (only 3 returned without me calling them back). From 3/28 – 4/5 escalated via phone calls, e-mails, and even FAX and no response. Industrial Door Company (New Owner) 4/5/11 – 4/28/11 April 1, 2011 – IDC buys Summit Home Center / Automatic Garage Doors & Fireplaces and refuses to take ownership for anything because our contract was with Summit (the company they bought). April 5 – April 28 – Multiple phone calls and over 34 e-mails back and forth with IDC to follow-up on status and ensure fireplace gets completed. April 28, 2011 – Fireplace finally completed (although still a major portion not working) --- 10 weeks late on a 2 week project!!!! · Feb 19th Order placed – expectation set that install would be within 2 weeks (by March 5th) · Week of Feb 21st – installation is promised by March 4th · Week of Feb 28th – installation will be by Friday, March 11th · Week of March 7th –2 hours off work waiting for nothing and installation rescheduled for March 18th · Week of March 14th – was told install will take more than one day (sales rep / scheduler implied 1 day). Installer shows up and no electrician so he can’t complete the install, but does say it’s “weatherproof” when he leaves. Friday night it rains and snows and water begins pouring in (1/2 gallon). Soaks the wall and plasterboard. Continues to pour in for the next 5 days and does not get addressed after repeated notifications. · Week of March 21st – still not complete. Monday call scheduler and tell him water is pouring through the roof…still don’t get anyone out until the electrician (who finally comes out on Tuesday morning) calls them and says “water is pouring in here”. · Thursday – March 24th – installer comes to finish work and finally now realizes that the front for the fireplace was not included and must be ordered. He leaves with 8 open issues and a complete mess (including flammables sitting up against the chimney for a wood burning fireplace). · March 28 – April 4th – Tried to escalate to management: left multiple voicemails, e-mails, and even sent a Fax with no response. Finally got a call back from the sales rep when I escalated to the manufacturer. · April 6th – IDC takes over and finally returns my call. They offer a free granite install (worth $710) (12% discount) after a week of trying and not being able to make any progress. · Ultimately takes 34 e-mails back and forth with IDC (from 4/6 – 4/28) before installation is finally completed on April 28th. Versi-heat (heat transfer system) not working so they refund that product. · Requested at a minimum compensation for our out of pocket costs ($1500), and suggested that we should not pay the $500 in materials not used. Refused to grant us any credit for our out of pocket costs other than the cracked granite they installed for free. · Gave them an opportunity to comment on any of the items below (in case they wanted to make any clarifications for accuracy). They refused and said to go ahead and post on Angie’s List – there was nothing more they were going to do about it. Here are the details of the installation: Tuesday, March 22, 2011…..Here I sit listening to the water pour down through the roof and waiting for the electrician who is already over 15 minutes late (I’m taking time off work to be here for him at the request of Summit) with plenty of time to document all of the issues with Summit Fireplace installation. For those of you who read Angie’s list feel free to read. For the rest of you my message is simple: DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH SUMMIT HOME CENTER – WHAT A FIASCO! Overall Summary: · Summit is horrible at communication o Only 1 time (in over 20 communications) has someone called back when they said they would and only 3 times total (without me having to call them first) · They overpromise and under-deliver o Fireplace install originally promised March 4th – rescheduled 2X o Work started March 18th o Final completion of fireplace install work still TBD (see 7 open issues) as of 3/29 (25 days late and counting) (Finally completed 4/28). · Technical proficiency is in question · Ordering ability is in question · They put my house in danger of fire · Water pouring through the roof (over 1 gallon already and still coming) even though they said it was weather proof I would recommend you NEVER do business with Summit Home Center / Automatic Garage Door and Fireplaces. Feb 19th Order placed – expectation set that install would be within 2 weeks (by March 5th) On Saturday, February 19th, we ordered a Mendota DXV60 fireplace from Summit Home Center in Woodbury. John S (our sales representative) said we should expect the fireplace delivered and installed within 1-2 weeks, and that he would call me on Monday once he had placed the order and confirmed a delivery window. Week of Feb 21st – installation is promised by March 4th By the end of the day on Monday February 21st, I had not heard from him, so I called him. He said he didn’t hear back on delivery confirmation (sounded to me like he had not yet placed the order) but he would call me back on Tuesday. By the end of the day on Tuesday I had not heard from him, so I called him back and he still did not have delivery confirmation (our credit card was charged on Tuesday, February 22nd, so likely our order was placed that day after I called). I called him Wednesday and he said, “Good news, you will have a fireplace installed by next weekend”. He said the fireplace would be in the next week (2/28-3/4) and that once it was in the scheduler would call and they would be able to have it in the next day. I asked “Oh that quick”, and he said, “yes, it will be in the day after it arrives at the warehouse”. Week of Feb 28th – installation will be by Friday, March 11th Not having heard anything by Wed, called and sales person was not involved in the process, so no word, need to wait for scheduler to call. Thursday, March 3rd – Scheduler, “Fireplace came in yesterday…I can schedule you installation next Friday”. Asked about why not on the 4th --- and he said can’t be scheduled then (in spite of sales rep saying it could be installed the next day (came in on Wednesday) (so next day would have been Thursday, March 3rd)). Week of March 7th –2 hours off work waiting for nothing and installation rescheduled for March 18th Thurs – Scheduler called – may not be able to install this week Friday – someone calls (not scheduler) – cannot schedule this week and the scheduler will call you on Tuesday morning to re-schedule…..I get the message and realize it won’t be installd on Monday. Tuesday – no one has called by the afternoon so I called and got the scheduler – who schedules it for Friday, March 18th (no explanation as to why it couldn’t have been done on Monday or Tues (or Wed or Thurs)) Week of March 14th – was told install will take more than one day (sales rep / scheduler implied 1 day) Call mid-week and am told that it will be late morning / early afternoon. I ask if he can install on that day and am told for that it will take several days (little did I know each day needs to be scheduled separately)….so I assumed Friday and Monday. Friday – installer shows up (by now already 2 weeks passed when promised). He realizes that an electrician was not scheduled (but is needed) and so he will not be able to get very far. Also – he has no idea how he is going to install the heat transfer system. I describe it to him over the phone (how I think it should go in), but he doesn’t get it – so I take off work for the afternoon (costing $300+ in vacation time). He completes some work and he says “it’s weatherproof” and leaves. Friday night – it rains and snows and water begins pouring through the roof (probably ½ gallon that night). We put a tray under the chimney to catch the water and have to empty it every few hours….but still manages to soak the wall and who knows what else we can’t see above the plasterboard is soaked? Week of March 21st – still not complete and will be another week or two??? Who knows?

We bought a floor model, Rave fireplace from this company as they were switching locations to a new facility. We were getting a fairly good deal on the fireplace (although they wanted to charge a ridiculous amount for installation). Thankfully we ended up being able to use a different contractor to install. When installation was completed this past week, we realized we were missing a part. To operate the fireplace, we have to connect two wires - and red and white - which are hanging out the front. When I called to inquire about this part, they said the model is sold "as is" and they'd be happy to charge $125 for the part. The salesperson was rude and almost laughed when I asked why I should have to pay for a piece that comes with the fireplace. I would never, ever use this company again. There are far better places to shop at with much better customer service!
Description of Work: Purchased a floor model fireplace from this company. We were going to use them to install the fireplace - but their prices were horribly high compared to other contractors.

Response from IDC-Automatic Garage Doors
Member, I am sorry that you feel you have been mistreated or have been quoted extremely high prices. Automatic Garage Door | Summit Home Fireplace continuously focuses on having excellent customer service. If you feel you have been mistreated by a Sales Representative, we take that seriously and would encourage additional discussions on what happened. As for pricing, it is true that we discounted all the fireplaces down “below manufactures” cost and advertised to current employees and friends to liquidate our warehouse and prepare for the move to our new location. I am glad that you decided to take advantage of the sale and hope you will enjoy your fireplace for years to come. Automatic Garage Door | Summit Home Fireplace continuously analyzes internal pricing, current market pricing and buying trends with our vendors. It is with great disappointment that we did not satisfy you with a great product at a great price excluding the part that has caused great dissatisfaction

I called to get an estimate for a new double garage door and a single door for garage down below. The estimate given done in a professional manner. All options dicussed. Not a high pressure sales process or person. From the date order was placed, it took several weeks to get the door installed, but it was a customer order. The installation went smoothly. Technician was friendly, courteous, cleaned up well after installation. The follow up on phone by customer service was great too!
Description of Work: I would highly recommend this company for new door installation!

Things went very well - I'll continue to use this company.
Description of Work: My garage door cable broke on one of the hottest days of the year. Called the company (I've used them for more than 25 years), and a man was out that same afternoon. He not only replaced the broken cable, but also the cable on the other side of the door. He made sure the springs were properly adjusted, and checked, tightened, and lubed the hinges. Then for good measure, he also checked the opener itself, found and replaced a part about to fail. AND, he removed some very nasty looking dead hornets that had gotten into the opener as well. All this for only $167. I'm very pleased.
