IDC-Automatic Garage Doors

Called IDC to replace broken spring on garage door. Good technician, service completed, all seemed good. Exactly 1 1/2 years later to the day, the spring snapped again. Two other garage-door companies advised that the spring should have lasted 3-5 years even with heavy usage, and the part was most likely defective. IDC flatly informed us they have a 1-year warranty and the repair would be full price. Bad part, bad business. No thanks.

Ryan came on time and fixed the door by replacing metal frame and adjusting the spring. He is very professional.

Very well. Communication was great throughout process. Failure was described and all options for repair were given. No pressure. They've always done great work for us.

We were very impressed with Mark Olson at their showroom, who listened to what we needed and didn't try to sell us the most expensive door but a good high-quality door at a reasonable price. When the installers, Josh & Jay, arrived they did an outstanding job. Very professional, polite, and VERY clean after! We were totally impressed from start to finish!

I am happy that I took my neighbor's recommendation to call IDC and I am very satisfied with the efficient, quality work done by Chad who offered good comments about what should be done. The cost was as discussed on the phone. I will recommend IDC and will call them again if needed.

The service men [Joe, Dan, Tarin, Tom] were very prompt and proficient even with having to make three visits to complete the work (due to our error in calculating spring size needed, they came out with a lesser-sized spring). When they came back with the appropriate sized sized spring, they had the job done with speed and efficiency...they were very polite and friendly, and offered helpful advice on good maintenance of the door to keep it functioning properly (the door is an exceptionally heavy double-wide solid wood door and is probably the original when the house was built in 1960's). The customer service gals [Stephanie, Julie, Tina] in their main office whom I spoke with provided exceptional service--they were very pleasant and intent on making sure we were happy with our experience with their company. Stephanie even mailed me a get well card after a telephone call when I confessed I was ill and having brain fog while trying to make sense of job quote charges we were discussing.

Wonderfully! JJ, the technician who came over is great. He's friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. He quickly diagnosed what was wrong, and was straightforward about how he could make a repair for today, but because of how the door was broken, and because the door is wood and very old, the repair might not last. He told me up front that he couldn't guarantee how long his repair would last. He listened as I asked questions, addressed all of my concerns, then got the job done quickly. After he finished, he explained how I could talk with IDC's salespeople if I wanted a new garage door. He already took all the measurements, so everything's ready should we need a new door. And he gave me some recommendations for a new door, and showed me a photo of what IDC's wood-looking, steel doors look like -- the one he has at his own home, and recently got for his in-laws. He didn't try to sell me anything, but he made it clear that he was willing to help if ever I wanted a new door. I appreciated his expertise, and he made me feel like I could really trust him.

Quick work and well within scheduled time.

He fIxed my garage door, the rails were totally bent and wheels off alignment. He was fast, efficient, professional and very affordable at $98 for fixing all of those things and he didn't charge a 'driving charge' to the fee. I was so impressed. Highly recommend. 5+ Stars!!

I live in a townhome association that requires the use of this specific vendor for garage door replacements. The association pays 1/2 the cost and the homeowner pays 1/2, plus any extra work the homeowner may have done at the same time. I did research other vendors prior to having the door replaced to see how competitive the price would be. I believe the garage door was original (35 years old), but my garage door opener is 3 years old. The replacement work included door, springs, cables, tracks, weatherstripping and removal of old parts. One of the old cables had broken unexpectedly so I needed the door replaced if I wanted to be able to use it. I contacted IDC about replacing the door and was able to schedule the replacement. Initially they were not sure whether the required replacement door was in stock so there was a possibility I would have to wait three weeks. However, they called back the next day to tell me the door was in stock and the work was scheduled for the next week. Because I had heard about springs breaking in this neighborhood I inquired as to whether "better" than standard springs were an option. I was told that instead of springs rated at 10000 cycles, I could request springs rated at 20000 cycles for an additional $50. I asked whether written specs or a guarantee were provided so I would have something to show what I paid extra for, but this wasn't available. In my opinion, this is asking the customer (me) to take the risk to believe that the seller (IDC) really is providing the "better" product (20000 cycle springs) -- so I had to decide whether to pay the extra $50 for the better springs, which in the end I did request. On the day of the installation, the installer arrived on time. I asked to see the springs and he showed me two different sets of springs (a 10000 cycle set and a 20000 set). But there wasn't any labeling or paperwork to "prove" that I was getting better springs for the extra $50. After the installation, I was provided a general warranty card and a brochure on garage door safety and maintenance. I paid my 1/2 of the total cost plus $50 by check (see above, the association paid the other 1/2) but received neither an invoice describing the work done and components used, nor a receipt for my check. The installation itself went extremely well. The installer was very professional. The old door, components, and tracks needed to be taken down, the new tracks needed to be measured, cut, and attached to the garage, and then the new components assembled and installed. All this required several hours of installation time. Afterwards the installer cleaned up the garage. The new door looks great and much better than the old door. Based on the installation work, I would be very happy to use this company again and rate this experience with all A's. However, I was not happy with the company's lack of concern for providing me with complete documentation for what I was paying for (description of the materials purchased, what the extra $50 covered, guarantee related to purchasing "better" springs, receipt for the check I provided). I think even when customers have no other choice and are required to use a certain vendor, sellers ought to be willing to provide an invoice for the work, some kind of guarantee or even just information on "extras", and a receipt for payment made. Several weeks later I was able to get a copy of the invoice that the vendor had provided to the association for their 1/2 payment, which did list 20,000 cycles springs. Overall, I'm very happy with the installation work, but think that as the end-user customer, I should have received better documentation for this expense from IDC.

My garage door broke over the weekend. I called IDC on Saturday morning and left a voice mail on their machine, as they are not in the office on the weekend. Since t his was not an emergency, I could wait. First thing Monday morning, they called me back and we scheduled an appointment for mid-morning. Casey showed up on time and he was very professional,

Our very old electric garage door on our single-car garage quit on us. Chris came out to look at our needs. A soffit running across the center of the garage ceiling meant a special installation would be needed. He talked to his tech people, and they came up with a very satisfactory solution. Chris came back a second time just to make sure he had everything exactly right. He ordered a custom-fit door after going over the options with us. We are very pleased with the door. Both Chris and the installer were friendly, professional, and competent. The price was in line with what I had read that other people paid for similar installations.

The tech, Casey, showed up early. He did a great job. He knows his springs and doors very well. He had the necessary springs on his truck, so he was able to get it all done without running around. He also replaced the bearing end plates as part of the job. That was a good idea since the door is now over 15 years old. The new spring is, of course, a little stiffer initially than the old one so the garage door opener needed a little adjustment in its downward force settings to work correctly. He did this also as part of the job.

They worked me in the same day coming earlier in the day than I had been told knowing I could not get the car out to get to work. This is the third time over many years I've hired this company, and I've never been disappointed. They are quick, perform quality work and have reasonable costs.

I called to get a quote on one torsion spring since it was busted and told them the other one was replaced last year. Well the guy (Dan) told me it was smaller than the other side that was busted so I told him to just replace both if he needed to. Last years spring was rated for 10,000 cycles and the newer springs were rated for 20,000 cycles and came with a 5 year warranty which will be mailed to us in a couple weeks. Only took him about a half hour or a bit more but he went above and beyond just installing the springs. He put in a new roller I had left after I replaced all the others but could not get this one and he fixed some brackets that needed a few more bolts to help hold it since some of the others were stripped or just needed more reinforcement for the bottom braces that carry the load. Oiled all my hinges and adjusted what he needed. I am extremely pleased and would not hesitate to call them again, Dan was great to talk to while I watched.

Scheduling was easy, called on their way out, quality work.

IDC performed a garage door repair, and new garage door installation. Both times the technicians were punctual, professional, and helpful. The garage door repair was my first interaction, and the technician so professional and helpful that I decided to have IDC quote for a new door I was planning on buying. I decided to purchase my new door from IDC and the installation service was every bit as professional as the repair service they provided. IDC is now in my personal phone book and I will not hesitate to use them again when I have need.

They came out to check sizes and the style of panels we wanted, and special ordered the doors. Installer called before coming to make sure we had the garages clear so he could install the doors. The install went with out any problems. He cleaned up and showed me what was needed to maintain the new doors.

The technician did a good job. I went with this company because they installed the door. I'm not for sure but it probably was 20 years ago or more. The door has held up very good.

I had these folks out twice, first to fix a door and next to add water stripping. The installer-repair people were very good, friendly, and punctual. My problem was with the service writer who was described as a "service trainee." It took several phone calls and e-mails to get the work scheduled, a real frustration for me. Included was a e-mail that was to give the quote, but with no quote. Then I was to contact them to schedule a time for the service guy but upon calling I was told the work hadn't been approved by me. . .it had been so I had to "re-approve it." Again, work was great but scheduling was a real frustration. "Professionalism" does not get an a because of my experience with the service writer aka service trainee.
