 + 0 moreBill was great to work with. He was very clean and precise with his craftsmanship. The door was perfect and he even attached the hinges and mortise box and the door was ready to hang. He was very courteous and cleaned up when he was finished.
Description of Work: Bill routered out areas on the door for 2 hinges and a larger area for the mortise box to fit. He installed all of the original hardware for the door. The hardware was about 100 years old.

 + 2 moreThe whole experience was great. Mike came out first to give me a price. They work on a fixed bid basis, which I really like. No surprises! I told him that I needed him to handle everything, including trips to the hardware store. He was very knowledgeable, and creative in the ways he tackled challenges. For instance, the sink came missing a part and Mike was able to devise a solution that ended up better than if the part had been included to begin with. Mike was detail oriented and thought of issues that had not occurred to me. I'm preparing another list for him right now!
Description of Work: I had several projects for a handyman to do, including fixing a door that didn't shut properly and installing an outdoor sink. One task was to clean out some weeds, put down weed block, and then add a layer of rock.

 + 1 moreDon's work looks very good. He went above and beyond trying to find replacement spindles for our railing. He eventually found a company about 60 miles away that would manufacture the spindles. He was very good about communicating when there were delays, based upon the difficulty finding the above mentioned spindles. He also did a great job with the flower boxes, they look much nicer than our old ones and are exactly what we were looking for.
Description of Work: Don from Handyman Connection replaced a utility door on our garage, repaired a decorative railing above our entryway, and built four new flower boxes.

 + 2 moreWindow sill work was good, but left a whole underneath it in the siding, as if it's unfinished. Garbage disposal work was fine. Both doors are sticking; he worked on some trim around the door and now they are hard to open and close.

 + 2 moreThe company sent out Brian to give us an estimate on the work. He told us what materials we would need to get (a new door) and he would get the matching aluminum, nails, boards, etc. that he'd need to finish the project. The estimate seemed reasonable to us, so we did not get any other estimates. Brian came as promised and completed the work, the outcome much better than what I was even hoping for. His work was excellent and he made our old garage look much more presentable and more importantly, safe from the elements. Brian was a true professional and I greatly appreciated how well he cleaned up the area each day.
Description of Work: Our garage, Circa 1948, had at one time had aluminum siding placed on it. During a recent storm, some of the siding fell off and some of the boards beneath were rotten. The main framework and internal surface was still intact. Also, the door to the garage was warped and not salvageable.

 + 1 moreJacob Fisk was very professional the entire way through. He showed up on time, called his company for an estimate for the job, then began working as soon as I agreed to the estimate. It took him a little over 3 hours to complete the job. He informed me that the switch plate I bought for my sewing room (where there was only a light) may be faulty and to let him know if I have any problems with it. Later that night, I found that I could not turn on the light in that room. I called the next day to have him replace it. I was unable to go back to the store to get a new switch plate since my daughters were napping, so he went for me and picked out a better switch plate. I paid him for it and it works beautifully. I was very happy with the overall job that was done.
Description of Work: He replaced 2 ceiling fans in my kids' rooms where there were existing ceiling fans and installed a ceiling fan in my sewing room (where there was only a light). Installed a new light switch plate in that same room as well. Also, he changed out a light fixture in our bathroom.

The workman, Jerry, was very competent, explained the work and what needed to be done and why, etc. The company, Handyman Connection, was very attentive and made sure I was happy with the work. The company called before the work and afterward. Jerry did the work very quickly and on the day agreed upon. I would definitely hire this company again! Because we obtained the materials ourselves, the price was really good. Definitely, the lowest bidder.
Description of Work: Remove old mailbox and install new one, remove wrought iron railing and patch concrete, replace rotting fascia board, patch leak around chimney on roof with roofing cement.

He gave all types of suggestions and options on how to finish our basement and bathroom area and said he would be back with floor plan options the day after the holiday. Chris never called or showed up to follow-up with any type of floor plans.

 + -1 moreI had already bought the door, locks, thermostat, light fixture & mail box. I'd paid $50 to get the door delivered. All I needed to buy were insulation foam, nails and some wood. He installed a new front door, took away the garbage, cleaned up afterward. Installed new locks & handles on door. Installed a new thermostat, installed a new light fixture, repaired a living room window so I didn't have to buy a new one and get it installed & installed a new, locking mailbox. He was really polite, worked hard and was meticulous with all the tiny parts, cleaned up afterward and, when he was baffled by my old thermostat, was able to call the company to help out with the wires. I have a 1955 house and there were only to wires to the old, mechanical thermostat. The new one was designed for new houses and more controls from a furnace. When I noticed that one of the strike plates on the door wasn't flush, he took the lock apart and redid the carving out of the wood so the strike plate.
Description of Work: I called Angie's List and got 3 referrals. I chose Handyman Connection because they have earned a super service award, they have all A's for price, punctuality, etc, they have a satisfactory rating with the BBB, they don't spend a lot of money on expensive company trucks, they give a 1 year guarantee in writing, it's an international company with locally owned and operated franchises, the people are bonded and insured - very important, other companies can't put liens on materials this contractor uses for your home because the homeowner buys all the materials. The contractor just installs them or repairs stuff with them. This is important. I think one could think that the price is high, but the quality of work is good. That's worth something to me, because I don't have to hire someone to redo the job. The specific handyman I got was Chris Palo. He came to give me a free estimate and see the spots I needed repaired. I didn't have to hire him. He gave me a list of materials I needed to bu

 + -1 moreCharlie came out to give the estimate at the scheduled time. He communicated clearly. There was some complexity to the tasks, but he put everything in plain English. It was a meeting of the minds. We needed some help in selecting materials. Charlie helped us with that in a big way. Charley was able to come out and do the job the next weekday. He came out the next day as scheduled and went right to work. He brought the right tools for the job and he knew how to use them. It was a comfort to have a craftsman on the job who demonstrated technique and skill. There were some tricky aspects to the job but Charlie for saw them and had an appropriate solution. He had two jobs to do- putting in a new window and rerouting the dryer venting. He accomplished both in one day. His focus was on quality & service. We love the quality of the work Charlie did for us. He was friendly and very respectful of our position as homeowners. Our experience with Handyman Connection and Charlie Kaiser were good.
Description of Work: Charley Kaiser removed our rotted old basement window and replaced it with a nice new window. The window had suffered wear and damage because a Laundervent had been vented through the basement window. Next he installed a new basement window with comprehensive sealing and caulking. He replaced the defective venting with new, fully functional venting that he rerouted to the outside through the siding. Charlie taped, sealed and caulked the venting job.

It was more work than he anticipated, because the bathroom didn't have an existing exhaust to the outside and has no outside walls, so he had to go through two roof layers, one the original roof and the other a 1970's addition that added another roof line to the house. It was a terribly hot day, but he got the work done in a couple of hours and cleaned up after himself when he was done.
Description of Work: Installation of a bathroom exhaust fan, including drilling a hole in the roof and installing the roof ducting kit.

 + -1 moreThe light and woodwork results were fine. After the first coat of paint in the staircase we noticed that nail pops and a rough spot had been ignored. On the front door nail holes were ignored as well. Dave took care of these problems before applying the second coats.
Description of Work: Dave installed a new light fixture, cleaned up wordwork, painted the front door and frame and the upper and lower halls of our home, including main staircase.

 + -1 moreThe original bid by Joe was the closest of 3. We decided to go with Handyman because they stated the job could be completed by a certain date. After a few weeks without any activity, I called asking what the delay was, and found they were just now pulling the local permit. Michelle at Handyman did a great job in tracking down the cause and seemed to get things going again. Joe ran into a few obstacles from the beginning (the concrete steps were solid and hard to break up, and local code requirements were more stringent than expected) and the price quoted went up. The only problem with Handyman was what appeared to be lack of communication between the office (which had to do all the background work, permits, inspections, etc) and the workman in the field. Joe from Handyman did an excellent job and I would highly recommend his work to anyone. I only wish I had hired him directly.
Description of Work: Remove 2 old concrete steps and build a 9 x 11 deck.

Chris reset the doors, and finished the rest of the job. The quote we received from Chris was 1/3 of the cost quoted by another Angie's List company. Chris was punctual, friendly and hard working. He did the work on time and on budget, with good results. He slightly damaged one door, chipping the wood while installing the ball catch. He showed us the problem and asked what we would like to do about it. We decided to have him install the door hardware at no cost (something that was not part of the original estimate). We were very satisfied with this solution and appreciated Chris' willingness to resolve the situation. He was fabulous!
Description of Work: Chris reset French doors connecting two rooms in our home. He repaired the drywall surrounding the doors, installed and painted trim, and installed door hardware.

 + 0 moreWe are in the process of remodeling our house to put it on the market, so time is of the essence. I called a few handyman businesses and either the service people were booked out for more than a month, or they didn't return my phone call. Sheila answered at Handyman Connection and was extremely pleasant throughout the scheduling process. I was able to have a confirmed appointment for the next morning, which was the 4th of July. Scott called for directions the next morning and actually arrived 30 minutes early. He was very pleasant and outgoing and definitely knew his stuff. Since we were using hollow core doors, the task was especially complex for routing out the hinge area, but Scott handled it with ease. He also ensured that all the doors fit in the casing prior to considering the job done. The whole job took about 2 hours and we were very pleased with the end result.
Description of Work: We had three interior slab doors that needed to have the door hinges routed out as well as holes cut for the knobs.

Description of Work: I had a large metal bed frame pulled from the basement moved to the second floor bedroom and put together. I had a drawer in the kitchen that was broken and needed fixing. I had a favorite chair that needed a leg fixed. I also had furniture moved so a room could be painted. The same man returned the next day to move the furniture back to its original place.

 + 0 moreI appreciate that Handyman Connection offers free estimates that include looking at the site, not just making assumptions about a "typical" job over the phone. The 1st guy HC sent was not right for this job; that was partly my fault due to mis-communication about the work. The 2nd guy, Ryan, was fabulous: knowledgeable, helpful & hard-working. He & his assistant did a great job, and made sure I was satisfied with each step in the process. The only minor problem was he miscalculated how much facia was needed; I think he was trying to keep me from buying too much, but instead I ended up having to make another run to the store. However, I would definitely hire him again, and would certainly consider other Handyman Connection contractors.
Description of Work: Replace rotten facia board; add new vinyl facia & soffit pieces, plus wrap aluminum around the corners (all in an effort to keep out squirrels, which have previously gotten into the attic crawl space through the old wood). Note: the cost included labor only. I had to purchase the supplies (which my contractor, Ryan Ballou, picked up). This arrangement made the total cost about $500 less than another company's bid that included labor and materials.
