Our experience with Green Horizons started out bad and only got worse. I prepaid for the service in March which was my first mistake but they offered a $25 off deal so I went for it. The agreement was for weekly mowing from May 4 through October 15. May 4th rolled around and they were a no-show. I called and was told that service would start the WEEK of May 4th. Okay, we then got a date certain of either that Friday (9th), or at the very latest, Saturday (10th). I will allow that during the week of May 4th there was some periods of rain but we were high and dry on both the 9th and 10th. I found a schedule on the website (which it would have been nice to know about earlier) indicating we were set for the 10th. We heard nothing all day so I decided that if their reliability was this bad, I would cancel the entire service and find someone else (which I did on Monday). I sent them an email at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., two guys in a truck pulled into the back driveway and we told them of our decision. They were fine with that. On Monday my husband called to assure them that we wanted a full refund. We expected a call back but got nothing. I called again this morning asking when we could expect a refund to our credit card and, after what I considered a runaround, I contacted the credit card company and made arrangements. Finally Chris called to talk to my husband. My husband was told that there is a learning curve on the part of the client and that an assigned day is what we could expect. After telling him we had hired someone else he told us he would be charging us for 4 (four) cuts! This company is seriously lacking in communication skills.

Would not ever use again. The responsiveness of the crew to basic requests was nil. While customer service did contact me directly (which deserves commendation), the crew was incapable of performing basic snow removal tasks. Of specific issue, all brought up mutliple times with customer service and never performed properly were the following: The path to the entrance door to the detached garage was not shoveled approximately 80% of the time. After a minimum of five complaints this continued. This was not a difficult request, and it is obvious that there is a path, and that the side door is the only entrance to the garage. Snow remained stacked in the driveway area (the plow driver obviously was being lazy and did not want to do the extra effort of shoveling the one and quot;difficultand quot; area of the driveway). I wound up needing to shovel this out on multiple occasions due to the driveway configuration. Walkway from sidewalk to street was not ever shoveled. This caused issues with the city and UPS due to accessibility issues. Side walkway next to side door was shoveled approximately 50% of the time. This again is an obvious pathway in the back yard. Walkways were never shoveled edge to edge, and only shoveled to the pavement roughly 20% of the time. Even after complaining directly to customer service, the snow removal crew was incapable of performing these activities. By contrast, the next door neighbor's service did all of the above 100% of the time. While Green Horizon's other spring and summer services are quite exceptional, I am stunned at the lack of professionalism in their snow removal and at this point would never use again, and would never recommend to another. Update 24-Feb-2014 After contacting Green Horizons repeatedly regarding the service, responsiveness has trickled down to zero from customer service. The last six inch snowfall resulted in the snow removal crew burying my garbage bin by just pushing the driveway snow up onto it rather than blowing or shoveling around the corner of the garage. The path to the street has still not been plowed. I will need to do this work myself and indicating so has not resulted in any corrective actions. As a result I canceled my service early today and went with somebody else. Green Horizons actually lost a customer today. While my experience with snow removal has been horrible, my experience with the yard service was quite positive. The lack of effort by the work team and eventually zero responsiveness from the customer service group have lost them a long-time customer though as I will not contract them for any of their services moving forward.

The company e-mailed me a reminder every week and then an e-mail after the service was completed. The work was always completed on time, quickly and efficiently. The crew was polite and listened to my requests for changes and implemented them immediately. When I had questions and called them they were polite and gave me a complete and polite explanation. They are a great customer oriented company and I will definitely hire them next year!!! |

There were a couple miscommunications ( for example, the crew coming to mow when we had asked to be skipped that week due to slow growth.) Where I think they really shine is the winter snow removal. We are using their deluxe plan (shoveling any time there is at least 1/2 inch of snow) and they have come a couple times when we weren't sure we even had a half inch where we are. They have shoveled the full width of the walks, done the apron of the alley garage, and even shoveled a path to the area where we have some hay down to help our small dogs do their business more comfortable. I would definitely recommend them for winter services, and for summer as well.

Made several appts (notified us of time they were coming) but did not show up. Finally (4 -5 X later) after telling them we would get a different provider, they showed up that same day. They were supposed to do initial cleaning inOct but missed appts then so now water off. Thus could only use air blowers. Some leaves frozen in gutters so owner had to manually remove when checking gutters after they left. It seems like they got behind; still could not make it when we asked if our inner suburb address could be put on earlier in the day. Would not use again.

Contacted them late the week prior, and they had a nicely prepared estimate shortly there after. They provided a window of when they would be out and complete the service. They did a nice job cleaning the gutters a good job getting the leaves out of the yard and mulch. There were more leaves than i expected left in the rocks, but they probably got 97% of them. Overall, i thought it was worth the money and would use them again.

We moved into a new home in the height of leaf/lawn mess season, and we spent our energies on the move instead of cleaning up the yard. We were so happy with Green Horizons that we feel that the money was well spent. The crew came on several different visits. First, they cleaned the gutters that did not have snow on them. Then, they came back and spent several hours cleaning up leaves and mowing. Finally, they came back to clean the rest of the gutters (after the snow had melted) and remove the leaves and debris. They cleaned up the mess from the gutter debris, and removed the yard waste so that we did not have to worry about it. The employees were kind, courteous, and professional.

I rarely complain like this, but our experience with Green Horizons has been atrocious. The rating was going to be a D, until the last phone call with Customer Service a few minutes ago. Now it's an F. We engaged Green Horizons in August to do shrub trimming (one-time) and mowing. We were advised that the services would happen on two different days, which was fine. The shrub trimming was done first, was done well, and they cleaned up after themselves as expected. The first mowing (they contract for a minimum of three visits) was supposed to happen later that same week. I saw their truck drive by, parked on the street in front of my house, but didn't perform any services. I called and was told there was a mixup and that they would be out the following week. They did not acknowledge my concerns about the truck outside my house during that call. They came out the following week and did what I knew as the first mowing. The bills came in the mail, and I paid - not realizing that the date listed in the description was the date the service was supposed to have been actually performed. If I'd understood that, I would have called earlier. The second bill noted a mowing in September. Both my husband and I were home that day - with a window seat to the yard, and there was no mowing done that day. I thought that perhaps that was just the billing cycle, and that the mowers would arrive. I also thought that with the dry weather we were having and the fact that the lawn had hardly grown during September, that they were waiting for it to be long enough to mow. It's now October. To my knowledge, my lawn has only been mowed once. I called Green Horizons and was told that the truck GPS showed that they had been at our property on those dates. This triggered my memory of the first incident, when the truck was parked for outside my house, but no work had been done (which their records noted as the first mowing). They then explained that the dates in the invoice were the date of service, proven by the truck GPS. I told them I was home those days and I was certain no mowing had been completed, and that at least on one occasion, the truck had been parked, but no work had been done. The customer service representative stood their ground on going by the GPS to prove service had been completed. I had engaged Green Horizons, before this issue, to also do fall clean up. At this moment, I'm awaiting estimates for fall clean up from other providers on Angie's List. My husband just called back to cancel all future service with Green Horizons. He once again explained the issues and that he wanted to cancel the fall cleanup due to the lack of customer service - giving them another chance to address our concerns. The customer service rep sounded like he could not even be bothered with it, and only said, and quot;Okay.and quot; That was it. Not a single apology. Not a single attempt to fix the issue. Not a single attempt to investigate the cause of our concern - services paid for but not rendered. My husband advised them that we would be noting this on Angie's List. I can't remember the last time we received such abysmal treatment. There are many more providers out there willing to get the business.

I was pleased with how quickly Green Horizons was able to get a team out-they came the day after I put in a request. We have had them do our lawn fertilizing and weed control for years and have been fairly happy with their work. Trimming shrubs has proven to be a different matter. I was home when the crew arrived, but I only noticed they were there when I heard the power tools in the back yard. I went out to see, and tell them how I wanted the shrubs trimmed. I was absolutely aghast to see one of the crew hacking away at our lilac bush with the power trimmer. First of all, it didn't occur to me that a lilac bush would be thought of as a shrub, so maybe that's on me. However, anyone who is in the business of trimming shrubs should know that spring, after bloom time is over, is the time to prune a lilac. Doing this in August kills next years blooms, unfortunately. And really, a lilac would require pruning (with a pruning shears!) rather than power sawing. I was able to stop the worker, but only by standing by him yelling and waving my arms around. (!!!) He indicated that he had been going to trim everything in the yard, including my wild rose bushes. When I told them that all I wanted done was the evergreen shrubs they were fine with that. They did not ask how I would like them trimmed (how much off, what shape). I am very frustrated that they did not initially ring the doorbell to see if I was home and ask from there what I would like done. This seems like it would be a good practice to me. For example, you don't go to a barber and just let them have at it, they ask how you would like it done! After the crew left I called customer service to complain. They were quick to offer to either replace the lilac bush themselves, let me do it and reimburse me, or take $50 off the bill. I chose the discount, and recognize that they did address the problem quickly, but did not like their implication that I was at fault for not specifying in the online request form that I only wanted the evergreens done. I think the responsibility lies with the *professionals* to make sure that everyone is on the same page, in this case defining what can be called a shrub. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I will not be using Green Horizons for shrub trimming again.

From the start, communication with Green Horizons was off. We attempted to communicate via GH's web site, then e-mail, then by phone -- but they never seemed to get the gist of what we needed. We had to repeatedly e-mail them to get them to do the work we had asked for. They never did the weeding that we wanted, they would only sometimes mow all the way up to the property line like we asked for, and their work was not very neat -- not terribly sloppy, but they just didn't seem to have an eye for detail. So, we canceled our contract with them. They were abrupt and argumentative when we called to tell them.

We provide FREE quotes for: mowing, fertilization and weed control, spring cleanup, fall cleanup, gutter cleaning, irrigation startups and blowouts, dethatching, aeration, overseeding and snow removal. If you want a lawn analysis, measurement for mulch installs, landscape job or lawn renovation we charge a $50 fee for those requests. Before signing a seasonal contract with them, I requested confirmation that they would be able to contact me each week to let me know if they would be coming in the morning or afternoon as I needed to be home to unlock my back gates, which they did confirm they could do. Out of the 4 times they came by, they only called twice and it wasn't until right before they were on their way over. The crew was unfriendly and my lawn was unevenly cut every time; even immediately after a mow, parts of my lawn were less than an inch and other parts were three inches, including entire patches of tall dandelions with their flowers still intact. They used oversized equipment that was not appropriate for my yard. I even had several neighbors mention how bad it looked. When I called customer service on the weeks with no communication, I was given excuses about how the note about my gate didn't make it in their system, or they were unable to contact the crews. I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone.

I have HUGE maple trees and a very large and awkward lot- leaves knee-deep! They were very quick with an estimate and gave a bid better than all others- even at flat rates. They got me in their queue even at a late date in the fall and were out relatively soon. (Generally their leaf removal service involves 2 visits- one mid and one late fall-- I just had the late visit due to my late request.) A small crew came out and made short work of the massive amount of leaves as well as the gutters on my 2 story house and detached garage. The pile of leaves at the street was incredible- they were out within the next day or two to take them away. Got practically every single little leaf in every little nook and cranny. Great work!

I contract with Green Horizons to do ongoing snow removal. The team comes promptly whenever there is a minimum snow fall and does a great job keeping the sidewalks/driveway clear. They have an online ordering system that makes it easy to order services with just a few clicks as well as automatic billing, so it's all taken care of without having to worry about keeping up with the service.

Green horizon isn't the best or the cheapest. They are mostly and quot;middle of the packand quot; in their work, pricing and pretty much everything else. Most horrible is their Groupon practice - they forbid customers who paid full price for thier services in the past to participate in any groupons for the future 12 months. this is ridiculous considering the fact that a lower price is what makes up for the deficiencies in their other areas.

We had a coupon and received a promotional price on the mowing and a discount on the fertilizing which made the price more competitive ($25/week for mowing, approx $60 each fertilization - regular prices may have been too high for our budget). A representative from the company came out to do an estimate and provided us with a clear price list and service menu to choose from. We also had several ways to contact the company (phone, fax, email, interactive website) and each way to contact was successful, professional and prompt. The few times I was home when the lawn was mowed or fertilized, the workers were friendly and professional and the job was well done. The only complaint I would have was about billing. I signed up for automatic withdrawals with email statements. I would get the email statements on the same day the money was withdrawn, meaning, by the time I got the bill, the money was already gone from my bank account. Because of weather, scheduling and whether or not fertilization was done, each bill was not the same. Not having any lead time on the money being drawn was very inconvenient. We have already signed up for these lawn services again for this year (2013), and will simply change our billing option to avoid this problem. Overall, I would recommend Green Horizons.

I signed a contract for the winter season at $80 per month. We had 13 snow events that were significant. I had to shovel every time becuase after 12 hours they were still not there and I had to go to work. Phone calls went to answering machines. I wrote them to tell they they had breached our contract and I would not pay. They hounded me for payment forever. I spoke to them many times to reach a settlement and to no avail. I am willing to pay for the single time they plowed. They insist on full payment.

This was for snow service 2 1/2 years ago for 2010-2011. We ending up crediting [removed member name]'s account in full for 3 1/2 months of service. Our crew verified they had done her job the first few snows or the season, but then every time they came the rest of the season, the shoveling had already been done by the homeowner when they arrived. Our residential snow routes average 8 hours to get to all customers on the route after the snowfall has ended.
