The system itself is wonderful. The plumbing group that was sub-contracted through Green Acres to install the water line from the house was very professional. Even though all lines were marked, the crew managed to cut both the phone line and the internet cable line. The crew didn't appear to understand the gravity of the situation. Three phone calls into the main office (on a cell phone), appeared to make the difference in getting their repair team out to fix the problems. Other annoying item is that the rain gauge was placed in a very conspicuous place on our front porch.

Report in 2006: Very phone friendly. I described my irrigation system problem and was given an honest answer- that they would have to hire a plumber to do the job anyway, so why not just go direct? That kind of honesty in service seems lost these days, as three other companies had just quoted me a price. They recommended a good plumber that they use, and the job was done, no problem, at a reasonable price. Thanks Green Acres, and when I really do need an irrigation company, you'll be first on my list. Edited 2012 to add: Ever since what's described above, they have been my irrigation company. They have blown out my sprinkler system every fall since then. Any time there's been any problem, they've been out quickly (usually the owner) to resolve the problem. Here's a great example: This year, we had our system blown out around noon. I came down to the basement to watch TV around 10pm and heard a drip, drip, dripping. Went into the laundry area and there was the interior drain valve dripping rapidly. It had been for some time (probably since noon), as a considerable amount of water had created a small river snaking through the room and to the drain on the other side. Several boxes of books on the floor got soaked along with some expensive oak I was saving for "the right project". I was pretty cheesed to say the least. I put a large garbage can under it and called the next day - a Saturday - not expecting to hear a peep until Monday. I was called later that day and the owner came out to take a look. He came in, apologizing profusely, cranked down the shutoff valve until the water stopped and then we started talking. He had checked my records and found that they had recommended replacing the shutoff valve a few years back and that we were going to keep an eye on it. He recommended again that I should probably do this, and that for now he'd note in my records that the valve needs to be really wrenched hard to shut it off. For all the trouble, not to worry about the bill. They'd take care of it. And while we were talking- drip... drip... drip... So at this point he could have easily said, "Alright, clearly your valve is shot," rescinded the offer on paying the bill, told me I needed to get it fixed, and left. Instead, he said that his guy probably did what we'd just done- cranked it down, saw it shut off, and left, but that his guy should have made sure it was shut off properly. He told me that I should replace the valve, and that they should come out again and blow it out to make sure it's clear, again free of charge. So we did just that. I called a plumber, had the valve replaced, and called to have them back. They were only supposed to come out and give it a onceover, but my wife was home and they re-did every zone completely. Later on, we received a bill for the second blowout. I'm convinced it was a clerical error- I think we just got on the schedule as another winterizing, rather than a special visit, and it billed accordingly. Giving it barely a second thought, I paid the bill, feeling that most of the good service came from just being offered not to have to pay, and we did essentially get two winterizations for the price of one, for a plumbing problem that was not their fault. So here's the kicker: A couple weeks later, we received a check, refunding our money. Wow. They have straight As across the board, save one. I had to give them a B on price only due to the fact that they are a more expensive than some winterizing services. But I want to be clear about the fact that I don't care. I know how to winterize a sprinkler system. I have access to a compressor and could do it myself. I continue to hire a professional because I know what can happen when things go wrong, and have written other reviews about it when it does. I continue to go to Green Acres for their incredible service, which I am always willing to pay a little more for. Thanks, guys. See you next year!
