Custom Refacing LLC

We had Lonn rebuild some and reface all of our kitchen cabinets last year and this year he did the same for 4 bathroom vanities. He is prompt and skilled. We are very happy.

I live in a bungalow where everything had been painted a million times over. I had started to remove paint from the cupboards, but gave up and went looking for alternatives. I found Lonn on Angie's List. I might have talked to a few other providers as well but I honestly can't recall. He was so professional and great to work with that I think I scheduled with him the same day we met. After letting me waffle over stain colors and wood types, he placed orders with local suppliers for all the things he needed to reface: trim, hardware, doors, etc. He showed up on time, did everything in a week with his table saw out on the back patio. It's probably the best $4000 I've spent anywhere on this house in terms of transformative value. Two years later and I still get happy fuzzies when I look at how awesome my kitchen is.

He did some things that were unexpected and turned out to be excellent improvements. His workmanship was beyond our expectations. He made some suggestions that made our cabinet arrangements better for operating. When it came to install the countertops there was a minor issue and he worked with our countertop contractor wonderfully. I didn’ t have to do anything. We were living in the house during construction. He did what he could to minimize dust and advised that we replace the furnace filter, however, when I went to replace it, the filter was very clear! I was amazed. This was an indication of how conscientious of the dust he was. He was very responsive anytime we called him; anytime we left a voice mail he would call right back.

Everything went exceedingly well, Lonn showed up when he said he would, worked quickly and efficiently and was done within 3 days. He did his best to keep mess to a minimum and to grant us access to the kitchen while he was working. We are glad we chose him for this project; our kitchen and bathroom both are greatly improved both esthetically and practically.

hWe could not be happier with the results. It looks like a whole new kitchen without the mess and time of replacing cabinets. The install took about 3 1/2 days with a follow up a few days later to wrap up a couple things. His attention to detail was very impressive!

The overall results exceeded our expectations. When we met Lonn we were impressed by his professionalism and his patience with our many questions. He listened to our ideas and made many excellent suggestions. When we differed as husband and wife, he did not play favorites but gave us his expert opinions. The entire experience with Lonn was enjoyable. On a daily basis he arrived when stated and worked diligently. Our kitchen was accessible each evening if we desired to use it. Lonn's attention to detail was exceptional. We plan to have Lonn back in the future to work on other projects. Just have Lonn come out and give you an estimate and you will be sold on him.

Lonn stopped at my house several times to give me a quote, take measurements and discuss options/materials, show me the materials, pick up keys, perform the work, and then drop off the keys. Every time he came over he was prompt, courteous, professional and friendly. He performed the work while I was out of town. I'm in a third-floor condo, so he had to schlep all his equipment and materials up to my unit. He treated my home like it was his own.

The first day he set up and used a tarp to close off the kitchen from the rest of the house. He was very accomodating when I need to get something from the kitchen. He cleaned up each day. He answered all the questions I had about caring for my new kitchen. I would highly recommend Lonn to anyone who would like to get their kitchen refaced. The workmanship is excellent and the materials used are high quality.

I had two bathrooms which I wanted updated. Because of the way one vanity was built in and the custom size of the other, I decided to look into cabinet refacing. I found Custom Refacing on Angie's List and Lonn came out and gave me a rough estimate and explained what he would do. He was quite thorough in his initial analysis of what needed to be done and showed me wood and style samples. I thought he was very knowledgable of the various facets of the work, so that it would look right in the house and blend with existing wood and finishes. When I was ready to order the work, he came back and remeasused. The proposal was very close to the original estimate. We scheduled the work and he came as scheduled. The work was done beautifully and clean up was thorough. He was able to do the work without removing the countertops. I had talked to another contractor who said they would remove the counter top, which wouldn't have workd in my situation, and under any circumstance would have created a lot of work and expense as it would also involve removing the plumbing fixtures. If I could rate the cost as A- or B+, I would. I didn't give an A for the cost because the work was not cheap. However, it looks really nice and was a fair value. Lonn was nice and easy to work with. I highly recommend him. Based on other reports I was very comfortable going to work and leaving Lonn to do the work while I was out.

He drove all the way out to the western suburbs (Mound) from Richfield to talk about my plans. Scheduled a time to do a final measurement. Started on March 19 per plan, finished 4 days later, per plan. I decided I wanted another drawer and he had it in two weeks. Totally 100 per cent satisfaction.

It was done very well. I found them on Angie’s list. I was very pleased with the work. He is excellent. He was very upfront and there were no surprises. He was very good.

Lonn came out to our home to talk to us about our kitchen remodel. He listened to our ideas. He asked us great questions which helps us narrow in on what it was that we really wanted. Lonn brings samples of doors, hardware and stain options with him. Together we decided on a remodeling plan. He is professional and always on time. He cleans up each night so we had access to our kitchen throughout the remodel. His craftsmanship is excellent. The cabinets look great!

This is our second time using Custom Refacing and we were once again 100% satisfied with the process from start to finish. Lonn came out to give us an estimate on a custom built cabinet to replace a vanity area outside our bathroom/closet area. We wanted the cabinet to be about 9 ft tall and fit the current width of the space (approx 5 ft wide). We also asked for a custom door to replace an access door to our crawl space/fuse box in our basement. Lonn quoted us with and without the tear out of the old vanity. the complete cabinet/shelves, basement door with magnet closures, weather stripping and new trim. We once again got to choose from a large variety of wood types, door styles and stain finishes. We were provided with a written quote within a few days and a timeline of completion that never varied. Lonn returned after our acceptance of the estimate to take final measurements and our wood, stain and door choices. We were told the approximate time when the products would be built, followed by the estimated time in which everything could be installed. Lonn was right on the money. The installation took a single day and you would never have known he was in the house (aside from the beautiful new cabinets and new door)... there wasn't a single trace of a mess in any way, shape or form. Custom Refacting will continue to be our preferred vendor for all cabinet/wood working needs. Lonn is punctual, professional, fair priced and responsible in every aspect of his business. We would, will and do recomment him to everyone we know. I look forward to using this company again.

Lonn was really great to work with. We began the project in May when Lonn came out to give us his estimate. We had a narrow galley kitchen and wanted to update it and also have more counter and storage space. We were thinking of moving and wanted to update the kitchen in order to make the house easier to sell. One of Lonn's many good qualities is an ability to listen and make great suggestions. After much discussion, we decided to remove some original cabinets overhanging the middle counter, which would open up the kitchen and dining area to give the room a much more open feel. To account for the lost cabinet space, Lonn suggested a new cabinet on the far wall and another cabinet in the dining area. Lonn was very patient with all our questions and offered great options for the type of drawers, staining and hardware types. We don't think our kitchen would have been half as nice without Lonn's ideas. Construction was done in early September. Lonn was very neat and always cleaned up after every day's work. The work was completed in 4 days time. Our kitchen looks wonderful! In fact, it looks so nice that we have decided not to sell our home. What used to be a dark narrow ugly room has turned into our dream kitchen. I would recommend Lonn's company to anyone. He is a real professional and great to work with. My only regret is that I did not get this review written sooner!

Lonn came and talked us through what cabinet refacing was all about, answered our questions (we had a lot of them) and gave us a free estimate. He clearly knew his stuff and we were impressed with his ideas for how our cabinets could be more functional. Lonn is not a high pressure sales guy. He's a craftsman who takes a lot of pride in his work. This was apparent in our interactions with him right away. After the initial estimate, Lonn came over to take specific measurements. During this appointment we chose wood type, color, hardware and trim options. There's a lot to choose from and we deferred to Lonn's professional opinion quite a bit, which he was happy to give when asked. We also scheduled a week for Lonn to come out and start work. The entire job was completed in about 3.5 days. Lonn cleaned up after he finished every day and he kept us informed on his progress. He was extremely attentive to each and every detail. We asked about a dark spot on some trim because we thought maybe it had gotten scuffed. As it turns out it was actually a naturally darker spot in the wood. We assured him that it wasn't a big deal, but he went to the trouble to replace that piece of wood anyway, just so it was perfect. I asked him where the old hinges were after the first day because one of our bathroom cabinets had a broken hinge that matched the old kitchen ones. I figured I'd just grab a hinge from the bag of scraps and replace it myself, but Lonn beat me to it without me even asking. It's small details like this that make Lonn stand out from the crowd. Our completed kitchen looks amazing and it is 100 times more functional than it used to be. If I can figure out how to post pictures with my review, I'll definitely do so. We couldn't be happier, and we would (and already have) recommend Lonn to anyone. If we decide to reface our bathroom cabinets at some point, we would hire him again in a heartbeat. Lonn was wonderful to work with. He was very conscientious in his work and a true professional. He cleaned up the work space every evening even though we told him it wasn't necessary. My parents purchased a condo that was very dated. I found Lonn Schmitz of Custom Refacing on Angie's List, and because of his excellent reputation asked him for a quote to give the kitchen and bathrooms a facelift. He met with my parents and me at the condo and went over our options, considering our budget. We hired him and the work was performed exactly when he said it would be. He took care to keep the dust to a minimum. The cabinets turned out absolutely beautifully, even better than I'd hoped.

Lonn did a wonderful job! We are very pleased! He bid a price and stuck with it. He started and finished the job when he said he would. He is experienced with kitchens and made excellent suggestions, is flexible and an excellent craftsman. Lonn used first class materials and the stain and finish are exacty as we wanted. Lonn takes pride in his work and want his customers to be satisfied. We are totally satisfied and would definitely use him again.

We had several companies come out and give us estimates on the job. Lonn impressed us from the beginning with his professionalism and preparedness. He was the only one out of 4 companies that actually gave us a written estimate vs. a "verbal guess" as well as the only one that used REAL wood vs laminate. His prices were fair and comparable, he was honest about the time it would take to complete and he didn't press us to upsale on things that we weren't interested in getting (such as pull out drawers for our pantry). Our final cost was exactly what we expected. From the beginning to end, Lonn was accomodating to our schedule (with the measuring appt to the installation) and always available when we had questions. It took 3 days to complete the installation. Each day he stayed until we got home from work (at our request) so we could see what work was completed, ask questions, etc. He cleaned up the kitchen well enough each night so that we could use it. He took great care to put up plastic so as to contain the dust. The workmanship and end product is astounding. We absolutely LOVE it and continue to get compliments. We had a plumber and a granite company come in to finish off the new look with new countertops... both guys (separate days) complimented the refacing job. I will absolutely use Custom Refacing again and would recommend their services to ANYONE.

Lonn does quality, professional work. He explained all options thoroughly. He made a couple trips to the house with stain samples to be sure I was happy with my choice. He showed up every morning and put in a full day's work every day until the job was finished, which took a week. The kitchen cabinets are not only great looking but more functional!

Lon Schmitz, owner of Custom Refacing, is the estimator, customer service rep, and builder. From the start he was respectful and responsive to all our questions. His price, which included more work, was very competitive to an estimate from a "big box store". His work was excellent, he started on the date and at the time time he quoted, his work was on time and his final price was exactly what he had quoted. He was careful to contain the mess to the kitchen hanging plastic curtains to prevent dust from other areas of our home. He was responsive to all our questions through out the process. I would highly recommend him. He does high quality work for a fair price. We also wanted to replace our counter tops. Dobervich Stone was brought in the project by Custom Refacing to replace the counter tops. In the process they became a separate contractor. We worked with Dan Dobervich to pick out the new counter tops and to have them installed. Our experience with Dan Dobervich was similar to that of Lon Schmitz. Very customer friendly, responsive, quality work, and final price was as quoted.

When my wife & I decided to remodel our 1952 kitchen, we went to Angies list & read reviews of several places that did cabinet refacing. Why rip out good solid frames? Custom refacing (Lonn) stood out. After getting other bids we decided that Lonn was the man for the job. He was on time, very personable, discussed what we wanted & needed, made some very wise suggestions & gave us an estimate that was almost to good to be true! How right we were. Lonn kept us involved in every step of the job.I used to have to get on my hands & knees to get some pot or pan, or my wife would do the same, Lonn solved the problem with the drawers he built. I'm 61 & don't need to get on the floor! By the way, all the drawers pull all the way out so you can get things in the back--nice! He added a handy spice cabinet next to the stove, built a cabinet to fit between the stove and fridge, & replaced a useless 3 shelf peninsula with another cabinet. We have a small kitchen so the added cabinets are just what we need. He shortened the cabinet above the fridge to fit a modern new one--something no one else thought of--we would have been stuck with no place to fit a new fridge. We wanted glass inserts in 4 of the doors, Lonn sent us to a place that had just what we wanted. Install charge--none. He had to come back to install moulding & such after the floor was done--no extra charge. We need to mention a certain counter man that Lonn works with by the name of Jeff at Counter Tops Plus. Nice job Jeff. Thank you. Your job on the counter tops helps pull the whole thing together! If you are thinking of updating your kitchen & don't call Lonn you're making a big , costly mistake. He is a master craftsman who's attention to detail is beyond what we paid for. His quality of construction is superb! We waited 22 years to redo this shabby old kitchen & we're glad we did! The total cost of the reface & counter tops was so much lower than the high bid we got we were able to upgrade on our appliances, pay for a new ceiling fan, 2 new lights , paint & everything else we needed to finish the project. In a short time this kitchen came out of the dark ages to become a room we can be proud of & enjoy for years to come! Thank you Lonn!!! We hope to have Lonn back in the future to tackle something else for us. We would hire Lonn again without any hesitation.

Lonn was out to discuss our project and give us a quote very quickly after we contacted him. We really appreciated that he came in the evening so both my husband and I could be there. He was professional and did fantastic work. We had cabinets that extended to our ceiling. He built new cabinets above our refrigerator, and put pullout drawers in our pantry and the cabinets above the fridge. The cabinets are beautiful and we are extremely happy with Lonn's work. We would, and probably will, hire him again when it's time to re-do the cabinets in the bathrooms.
