Copperfield Chimney Sweeps & Repair

Victor came out last year to do a cleaning and inspection of our fireplace. As new homeowners, he explained how it worked and gave needed recommendations on how we should burn fires. He replaced our existing cap with a cap that would allow our fireplace to burn easier. After a major rainstorm this spring, we had water dripping in through the chimney. I called Victor to see what we needed to do. He said he would come by and replace the chimney cap with one that had a water shield. He did not charge us anything and came out that week. His response and demeanor was really impressive. I would recommend Victor to anyone needing chimney/fireplace work.

Great! Victor (the owner) gave us a thorough check of our setup and explained certain things about our chimney and fireplace that I would not have known. He gave the flu a good cleaning, went on the roof to clean the chimney stack, and left the area beautifully cleaned when finished. He put down drop cloths while working to protect our flooring and was very personable and informative. He knows what he is doing! He was on time and professional, yet personable.

Victor and his assistant were incredibly clean and respectful of the house and Victor spent extra time making sure I understood all the work they were doing and how my chimney and damper work. I highly recommend them and their work and will call them again for my next cleaning.

When I asked Vic about another masonry repair I had to do before putting our home on the market, he took a lot of time and effort to explain to me how to do the repair;specific materials, instructions, etc. He a great person and I'd highly recommend him.

I called on Thursday and was able to get an appointment for the next Monday. Mary, who took my call, was very friendly and efficient. They showed up for my appointment on time. Victor was very friendly and outgoing. He was pleasant to work with. He had a brick to place over the ash drop that he gave us for no charge. He was quick. He and his helper (Philip, I think) worked together seamlessly.

Great. I called Victor to schedule an appointment and he was able to come out the next morning. He was on time and friendly, and taught me about my fireplace while he was here. (It's a new house, so I didn't know much yet). He cleaned up afterwards and was great.

We were prepping our chimney for a gas insert installation. The chimney wasn't clear, and Victor let us know that there were quite a few bricks stuck in the flue. He tried several tools to try and break through them, but was also concerned that our chimney may have been collapsed inside. I told him it was okay. We were willing to risk it to find out if we'd still be able to have our gas insert installed. He made several attempts, but with him being a very tall man, and our fireplace being a very small coal-burning style, he wasn't able to dislodge the bricks. I told him I wanted to try (by this point I was mad with the fireplace, not Victor) and I was able to pound through the clog... and about 40 bricks and tons of soot came down. Victor cleaned up, even though we did get a film of soot on some furniture, but this was a highly unusual chimney sweep experience. Victor also scaled a 30-foot ladder to clear out the gutter that was near our oak tree. It was full of dirt.

Victor was punctual, clean and instructive. They arrived when they said they would and it took as long as they said it would. I was pleased with the level of cleanliness, both in the fireplace itself and in the areas they worked in. Since we have moved into the house only recently and have never used the fireplace, I really appreciated the advice he gave in using this particular fireplace.

Super! It could not have gone better. Victor was very professional and friendly. He was able to explain certain things about my fireplace to me in way that I could understand. My fireplace is now cleaner than my kitchen! It has never looked so good.

He did the repair and sweep during the same appointment and left every thing in good order.

Victor called about an hour and a half before the scheduled time to let me know that they were running early and could come ahead of time if that was okay. I was home anyway, so they came and even called again prior to their actual arrival. They did a very thorough job, and I appreciated Victor's articulate explanations of their work and the features of my fireplace and chimney. Victor also gave helpful tips and recommendations and told me where I could find good deals on a new log holder and screen. Victor and Phil were efficient, clean (covered my rug before the job), very knowledgeable and seemed to take a lot of pride in their work. They were straightforward and honest, and showed an interest in my well-being by making recommendations about the carbon monoxide detector and flue liner/plumber, which was not in their "job description" but was appreciated. Victor and Phil were fantastic and I would definitely hire Copperfield again.

Victor came out with another person who helped and when he arrived explained the process very well. He covered everything and moved furniture as needed. He educated me about fireplaces more than anyone who had cleaned in the past had. He asked if I would want to remove the very old outdated looking doors and how much of a difference that would make in the room. I asked how much to do that and he said he would just do it in the process of cleaning the chimney. He removed the doors and cleaned the brick around where the old doors were. It looks AMAZING! I was going to have the basement chimney cleaned and he explained how that chimney works and that I might want to consider putting in a gas fireplace since that is below the frost line and can compete with the furnace. I was very impressed with all of the knowledge and care Victor puts into making sure you get the best service. Thanks Victor! I will use them and recommend this company to anyone needed anything with their fireplace!

Excellent. Victor and his worker arrived on time, were positive, protected the carpet and items near the chimney, was very clear about what was to be done, and worked efficiently and quickly. We are very please.

They did a good job of communicating what they were looking for in the safety inspection, and in communicating results, etc. Described features of a safe chimney and fireplace and how to maintain those, without pushing sale of additional products or services. Also did a good job on the chimney sweeping.

They were very knowledgeable and went over and above my expectations in examining not only the internal chimney but the ash drain, the outside chimney, and the mortar throughout. I feel like I paid for my Angie's List membership by hiring him. He was very competent, very nice and explained things well to me. He also gave me a bid on tuck pointing the bricks at the top of the chimney. He told me the bid was firm and if we hired him and something went wrong with the job, he wouldn't charge us anything more. He also told us we still have at least 3 more seasons before the tuck point work will need to be done. He came out and did the chimney (sweep) work but, he also gave us an articulate and fair bid on the tuck pointing job. He really deserves a Christmas card from us this year! We would definitely use him in the future!!!

They arrived at the beginning of the 1 hour window provided (with a reminder call the day before). Victor brought in the tools needed, carefully moved furniture and covered the floor. As he worked he explained what he was doing and what I should do to get good results and improve safety (such as adding a screen). He fixed the ash pit door and provided a fire brick to place over the ash pit to prevent burning coals from falling down (replacing the aluminum foil that was there). He explained about chimney screens and offered the option, though did not pressure me into one. While Phil cleaned the chimney, Victor checked the clean outs in the basement and told me what to do there, including how to fix one of the two doors with $6 worth of material from the hardware store. He wrote the information down before he left. He told me when to call again. A great service, friendly, prompt and reassuring before I started using the fireplace.

I used the wood fireplace in my new home a few times, and after maybe the 4th fire, the house was full of smoke, and for days the whole place smelled like old bacon. I had no idea what the state of the chimney was in terms of how long it had been since it was cleaned. I called Copperfield, and Victor came out with a helper. The helper cleaned the chimney, and Victor explained the many factors that could have caused my problem. He suggested a taller grate, he felt the fire was too low to the bottom of the fireplace to get a good updraft. He also said using a vent in the kitchen could seriously disturb the updraft, and I may have had it on, not thinking about that at all. Victor's inspection included going up on the roof check the exterior of the chimney. I implemented his suggestions and have not had smoke in the house.
