Chris built and installed wooden braces to support our sagging eave. He did a nice job of matching the pictures that I emailed him. The braces worked out great and look great. His price was the lowest bid at approx. $1000.00. He just did what needed to be done. I would hire him again.

He was very cooperative, nice and punctual! Took awhile to get set up and figure out what needed to be done. Estimated that it would take only a day. Once he got beyond his first potential mistake he worked hard and got the cabinets in securely and level! At the beginning I was down in the basement working on something else when I saw him start to cut down the legs on the wrong end of the base cabinets. I stopped him in time and asked if he wasn't trimming the wrong end. He was flustered and then realized his mistake. After that he installed the entire unit very well. and the sink seemed to go in well too. When it came to installing the faucet and the last section of drain pipes he struggled. Fortunately we have a hardware store nearby which he visited regularly during the day. The end result with the basic plumbing (which he said he could do) was less then satisfactory. 1. One side of the sink drain leaks so it's unusable until fixed, 2. The silicone caulking around the sink was very messy and not done correctly. We will have to redo it. 3. The faucet was installed incorrectly - the hot and cold water was reversed. None of these problems are terrible, but took away from his overall performance. He left the site pretty clean except for the random silicone scattered over the counter top. Most of it came off with a lot of work. The final slight problem was that it took him longer than he thought and he had to come back the next day. My thought is that a lot of time was spent going to and from the hardware store. The good news is that he fit it in and was very personable! Nice guys who was trying to please. It ended up to be more expensive for the work done even with the coupon.
Description of Work: Installing pre-made cabinets and counter top in an unfinished basement - leveling them was a time consuming part since the floor was far from level. Also installing a sink and basic faucet to mostly existing plumbing.

Chris has always been punctual, and he's a very fast worker so I've always felt that I was getting good value. I've never had a bad experience working with Chris.
Description of Work: Chris cleaned up a wall opening left by another contractor and trimmed it out. This was a relatively small job, but I've used Chris many times over the years -- perhaps as many as 10 years -- for a number of framing/trimming/sheetrock jobs. He's never disappointed, and I've referred him to several friends as well.

He does great work. He is very clean and a very good communicator. He let us know what the next step of the work would be. He was very respectful of the fact that we were living in the house and he was framing it in the basement. He was very reasonably priced. He also cleaned up every night. Our experience with him was excellent.

A number of cuts were incorrectly measured but Chris just pieced them together rather than re-cutting a new piece to the correct size. He miscut along the side of the house which required installing a continuous piece of 1/4 round to cover a sizeable gap. He had his nail gun improperly set so many nails did not go all the way in, but he did agree to come back and set them correctly. In doing the work he bruised the siding in quite a number of places but he did agree to repair them. The work looks good from a distance but is lacking quality on close inspection.
Description of Work: Applied new 1x6 soffit boards over existing soffits that were in such bad shape that they could not be refinished. Removed old fascia and installed new 1x8 fascia. Also installed a new continuous soffitt venting system.

I didn't chose him, I found out by another company that the height and width of the bookcases would be dangerous with the weight of the books. In actuality in order to have the bookcases the size I wanted them they would have to be built differently and attached to the wall which was not included in his plans.
Description of Work: He came out and gave me a bid on building free standing bookcases.

We liked Chris from the beginning and are glad we chose him. He coordinated calendars with us, was always on time and pleasant, and listened to our ideas. He helped us refine the work plans we'd drawn. He did considerable handmilling of the classical trim on the mantel and figured out how to put it together so no fasteners would show. He recommended Rockler's to us, a treasure for woodworkers. He took the time to trim each shelf to fit perfectly into its place. On the last day he offered to reinstall the handle of our front storm door which another workman had mistakenly installed upside down! In agreeing to a partnership with Chris in which we sanded, stained, and finished the hardwood and sanded and primed the drywall, we were able to keep the cost of the project down to a price we could afford. There were some errors of mitering in the mantel and crown, both difficult finish work, but we think the overall project is a smashing success and adds considerable value to our home.
Description of Work: Chris built drywall to enclose duct work of a new gas fireplace in our MBR, built a hardwood mantel and bookcases with adjustable shelving around it and installed hardwood crown moulding at the ceiling. He also rehung a folding door and replaced a broken stairway tread in our basement.

Chris is a consummate professional, a craftsman, and a great guy. His work was of excellent quality and he managed timeliness and expectations flawlessly. I had a bit of sticker shock on the quote, but after seeing him hard at work for a number of days on the job and the quality of the finished work. I felt that the price ultimately was fair. I really appreciated him running interference on the building permit and inspection, something I have had other contractors tell me was my job.
Description of Work: Replace 3x6' area of rotting studs (exterior load-bearing wall) and install rain-guard and sheet metal flashing to protect house from water damage due to masonry steps, located right next to exterior wall. Insulate, install vapor barrier, and replace cedar shakes. Manage building permit process.
Wonderful, Chris spent only a few hours here and did all kinds of extra little handymen things here are there besides the job we hired him for. He's great...I primed and painted the trim work after he left and it looks brand new.
Description of Work: Patched, sanded and prepped for priming and painting window and door trim. The trim was taken down to replace the windows and doors and then placed back up, but had sustained some damage and missing paint in the process.

CHRIS WAS GREAT TO WORK WITH. HE WAS AN EXCELLENT COMMUNICATOR - LETTING US KNOW WHEN HE WAS GOING TO BE THERE EACH DAY, DETAILING THE PROGRESS AND ANY ISSUES/DECISIONS THAT HAD TO BE MADE ON THE FLY OR WITH OUR CONSIDERATION, ETC. THE FINISHED PRODUCT LOOKS GREAT TOO, AND WE'VE HAD COMPLIMENTS FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE ELECTRICIANS ON THE QUALITY OF HIS WORK. WE'RE HOPING TO WORK WITH CHRIS AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE!

CHRIS CALLED TO SAY HE WAS BOOKED THROUGH THE SUMMER AND COULDN'T DO THE JOB. HE SUGGESTED SOME WAYS I COULD GET THE JOB DONE WITH MINIMAL COST AND DEMOLITION. HE SHARED SOME OF THE POTENTIAL PITFALLS OF ATTEMPTING A REPAIR WITHOUT REMOVING STUCCO. HE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR NO MONEY. I WAS IMPRESSED WITH HIS HONESTY AND DESIRE TO HELP.
Description of Work: ESTIMATE PRICE FOR REPAIRING ONE ROTTEN-OUT EXTERIOR CORNER OF KITCHEN. THIS KITCHEN WALL IS IN A 1957 ADDITION THAT HAD A TOTALLY FLAT ROOF AT ONE TIME. DESPITE THE PREVIOUS OWNER ADDING A SLIGHT ANGLE TO THE FLAT ROOF, THE GUTTER CLEARLY BACK FLOWED INTO THE HOUSE. THE STUDS WERE IN GOOD CONDITION BUT ABOUT 12-20 INCHES OF SHEATHING WAS ROTTEN ON EITHER SIDE OF THE CORNER FROM FLOOR TO CEILING.

CHRIS WAS VERY GOOD WITH ALL THE INITIAL FRAMING FOR OUR BASEMENT. THE PEOPLE HE HAD DO THE DRYWALL WERE EXCELLENT AND SO WAS HIS PAINTER. SOME OF THE FINISHING WORK WAS DISAPPOINTING. THE DOOR FRAME WAS CUT CROOKED ON TOP AND THE DOOR HAD CHIPS OUT OF IT WHERE IT WAS TRIMMED. THE TRIM ON THE INSIDE OF THE BATHROOM DOOR FRAME WAS PIECED TOGETHER INSTEAD OF BEING ONE LONG STRIP. HE DID COME BACK ONCE TO REPLACE THE TOP TRIM BECAUSE THE CUT WAS VERY OBVIOUSLY NOT STRAIGHT. CHRIS WAS A GREAT GUY, BUT SEEMED TO RUSH THE JOB AT THE END WHEN THE FINAL DETAILS LIKE THE DOOR FRAME AND SHELVES WERE BEING DONE. THAT SEEMED TO BE WHEN MOST OF THE ERRORS WERE HAPPENING.
Description of Work: ENCLOSED A PRESTO BATH SYSTEM (PUT UP WALL AND A DOOR). INSTALLED CEILING IN BASEMENT. ADDED SHELVING ON BLOCK WALLS AND ENCASED GLASS BLOCK WINDOWS.

HE SENT A PROPOSAL THAT INCLUDED THE COST OF THE DOOR. I HAD TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD PURCHASE THE DOOR. I CALLED HIM ABOUT THAT AND ASKED FOR ANOTHER PROPOSAL WHICH HE NEVER SENT. HE CALLED AND HAD TIME TO DO THE INSTALLATION SO I TOLD HIM TO GO AHEAD. WHILE HE WAS DOING IT HE CALLED ME AT WORK TO ASK ABOUT THE WOOD TRIM AROUND THE DOOR. I TOLD HIM TO REPLACE ANYTHING THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT APPEARED TO BE OK UNTIL I WAS PAINTING THE NEW WOOD. I THEN DISCOVERED THAT PART OF THE WOOD THAT THE DOOR FRAME IS ATTACHED TO IS ROTTEN AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. I CALLED HIM ABOUT THIS AND LEFT A MESSAGE BUT IT HAS BEEN TWO WEEKS AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM. HE WAS ALSO GOING TO CHARGE ME $100 MORE THAN HIS ORIGINAL VERBAL ESTIMATE. WHEN I PROTESTED HE DROPPED THE PRICE TO JUST $50 OVER WHICH WAS FAIR SINCE HE HAD TO DRILL AN EXTRA HOLE FOR A DEADBOLT.
Description of Work: REMOVED AN OLD STORM DOOR AND INSTALLED A PRE-HUNG DOOR AND WOODEN SCREEN DOOR.
