Chris did an excellent job installing our medicine cabinet. He inserted a wood block and plastered the sides to help for the space that wasn’t a perfect fit. He was a professional communicator and adaptable to my schedule. Would recommend for a friend and would use his service again (hopefully not too often!)

Awesome. Chris is awesome. Everything he did he went above and beyond what I expected and the work is still standing and looking awesome 2 years after he did the work. I want to hire him for all my carpentry project. Unfortunately everyone else knows this too and he is busy as a result. If you can get him to do you project it will be done right.

Chris either replaced or filled rotted wood window sills on multiple windows around our home. Chris also replaced rotting wood on our garage that was noticed after starting the job, and not charging any additional cost.

Chris worked with me to provide multiple options in order to find one that fit my budget. He was extremely prompt about returning calls and texts as we worked through the details. He was flexible when I requested some last minute changes and provided some creative problem solving to meet some of my unique requests. He truly cares about the quality of his work. When a piece he crafted did not meet his standards, he contacted me to let me know that he was going to redo it rather than using something less than perfect.

Chris always responds back promptly to Angie's List messages. He kept me up to date on when he would be out and would tell me many days before he did so. That made it easy for me to plan. He upgraded some sliding closet doors that were worn out and very noisy. He was able to keep the wood doors themselves and reworked the sliding mechanism with new hardware. They work great and make little noise. He has done work for us before and he always pays attention to details and is reasonably priced. After the work is done he cleans up very well. If I have another project I would not hesitate to call on him again.

Chris contacted me shortly after purchasing his handyman for a day (6 hours I believe). He set up a time to come look at the project and was very timely. When here, it was clear he knew exactly what was needed to do the job. He purchased the wood and trim pieces (I reimbursed), finished them to match my existing trim at his shop, and returned a week later to do the work. He was very pleasant, and conscientious in my home. Chris worked every bit of the time and then some, as the oddities of my project required lots of detailed and well planned cutting on his part. Chris stayed until the job was completed, and left my house as he found it having cleaned up the job areas. We'll be hiring him again!
Description of Work: I hired Chris via Angies List to do the trim work over three large patio doors. Two doors were fixed, one swinging, all Anderson 400 series wood.

Of all things completed, the floor trim looked the best, attempted to match as closely to existing trim. Painted over mistakes/cuts. For the inner bathroom shelving unit, while real wood wasn't an option (for whatever reason), the formica he used was cheap and the cuts weren't flush or clean. It looked like something I could hire someone off the street. The cabinet door was supposed to be replaced. He ended up staining the same on the front, but the door still doesn't close flush nor did he stain the back of the door. The drawers were made well, he rounded the front to match the existing and stained to match the hallway, that was a nice touch. He didn't ask, I would have been happy with the front drawers squared faced or flush mounted. The inside was made with a pine formica, a different material than the upper cabinet. Again, a lack of attention to detail. The inside door and window trim was repaired quickly with bondo, some trim and paint to cover up his mistakes. This wasn't completed all the way as I have a corner missing wood that he didn't see or bother to repair. He was one of the few carpenters that called back and provided a cost. Some of the things he did were great, there were also issues with quality and detail. In the end, wouldn't have him back due to the lack of the professional look I expected and cost associated with this.
Description of Work: Build a new inner bathroom shelving unit, 3 bathroom drawers, replace/repair cabinet door, trim along floor, repair trim around doors/window where tile used to exist.

Some things were great, and others not so great. First, Chris was super responsive. He came over right away to check out the kitchen and give me an estimate. And when he promised me the cabinet on Wednesday, he was here, bright and early on Wednesday. I was so happy about that. But there were a few things that were a bummer. He couldn't send me a written estimate because he said his internet wasn't working. So he texted me a photo of his computer screen. Then, I thought the cabinet he made looked nice, but I didn't realize that it was super sloppy until I opened the doors after he left. The doors were mounted just a tiny bit crooked, so they fit together too tight, so they're hard to open. Plus, he didn't put on any knobs. And the hole he cut out of the back of the cabinet to accommodate a wall outlet is really, really messy. And the spacer he put next to the dishwasher doesn't go all the way to the floor, and the whole reason I needed it was so my cat couldn't get through there. I managed to wedge a brick back there, and it looks super dumb. And I paid him a lot! Finally, I needed an invoice, and he said he was out of invoices. He promised me he'd drop one off, and I've texted him about it twice, to no avail. Once he texted back saying he'd drop it off, but the second time he didn't even reply. I think even though he was super nice and worked really quickly, I feel scammed. In the future, I'll hire someone who is more professional.
Description of Work: I needed a new cabinet made for above a microwave that I needed installed, and a bit of painted wood put in a gap between a cabinet and my dishwasher.

We met once to discuss the project, and Chris showed up on a different day with the materials and took care of all the items on the list. The playhouse looked great, and the entire project was done when I got home from work.

Well. Windows were installed including a security film to prevent peepers from seeing what's inside the garage. The finishing work is very impressive. Chris Elpers took away the old windows, framework and all. I watched the work in progress off and on. Chris Elpers was thorough, conscientious. The result was well worth the cost.

Chris was very professional and courteous. He went above and beyond to make sure our project was done by the appropriate professionals. I would definitely consider working with him in the future.
Description of Work: I consulted with Chris in regards to a project to finish crown moulding in our home. The moulding had already been placed and was in need of caulking to finish the look. After discussing the project, Chris thought it would be better done by a painter and provided me with a few recommendations.

Chris was immediately responsive by Angie's list chat and texting. He was able to fit us into his schedule soon after the exterminators left. He brought the needed equipment and did not need to make extra trips, after he purchased the supplies he needed. We were very happy to get this done before the squirrels found their way back!
Description of Work: Chris Elpers repaired some of the framing on the cupolas on our 100 year old home. They had been damaged by squirrels who had chewed their way into the attic. Plus, Chris found rotted wood and repaired and/or treated that in the process.

So, even though Chris did only this on job for us, I feel like he's a life long friend. He came over several times to measure, photograph, find the right stain, rethink the project, educate and entertain. What a dedicated professional. And, it was a difficult job to match the old cabinets, fit it, and mount it. He did an amazing job - even with close inspection, one cannot tell the difference. He found wood, stained it exactly, then fit it in perfectly. We were amazed. And he did it all with good cheer and professionalism. We cannot recommend him enough. I'm looking for projects for him to do, he's that good!

Chris was very pleasant to work with, professional, and he kept up with communication. Chris saved us a lot of money. By purchasing the doors, hardware, pilasters & cross-head pieces through Home Depot, and having Chris install it, we saved $2300 from the lowest of three contractor bids. Chris had a tough job: the rough-in door frame turned out to be slightly out of plumb, but he managed to get the door installed so that it closed evenly. But where Chris looses points is in attention to fine detail. The caulking was a bit sloppy, and there were a few things that I had to correct after job. The cost for Chris's labor, and some materials that he purchased, was $650 + $350 for an Angie's list coupon, a total of $1000.00 for approximately 1.5 days (which included some of his home-shop time, although I don't know how much). Again, he was very pleasant to work with, but whether or not I would hire again would depend on the job. A rough-in for a bathroom remodel, or frame a wall, sure, no problem, but I would hesitate to hire for a project requiring finer precision, such as built-in bookshelves, or a fireplace mantel.

I met w/ Chris on a couple of occasions and explained generally that I wanted a custom table that would be attached to the other side of a kitchen island. I explained that I wanted a very simple clean look, consistent w/ my kitchen design and mid century modern style of my house. Chris created the most amazingly beautiful and functional table that was exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely use Chris again!

Starting off was a little bumpy – I needed to reschedule or first appointment and then Chris needed to reschedule the next two appointments, so it took four tries to finely connect. I sent Chris a picture of the window that needed to be framed-in and Chris showed up with the wood he thought he needed. That was the was a problem; he showed up with maple and the wood-work in the bathroom was oak that was stained medium walnut. Maple is great for painting but not so good when it comes to a dark stain. I could not match the stain or the grain to look like the rest of the oak trim in the bathroom. Chris was friendly, and a steady worker and the work was not bad but not what I expected. The finished product looks more like something I would be happy with up at the cabin rather then in my full time home. This was a basement bathroom window that I had replaced the casement window with glass blocks. I should have asked Chris to insulate behind the frame or Chris should have noticed the issued and mentioned it as something that should be done. I think this could have turned out better had Chris stopped by ahead of time and done a site survey, review or assessment of the job prior to showing up ready to work.

This was a $329 big deal purchase. It wasn't the best carpentry work I have ever seen. I do not think I am being too fussy, but I am not sure if I am being too fussy. I had to re-do the finish where he worked because it was just a mess. The other thing was there was sheetrock mud all over my house. On rails, on carpets, on floors all the way out to his truck and back. He was just really kind of messy. He was prompt and returned calls and all that. I don't know, I guess I would not hire him again. He still owes me one hundred and some dollars for the work, but I don't know that I would have him back just because I don't feel I should have to re-finish the job and re-sand, re-mud and re-paint everything. he was on vacation at that time so I talked to him and he told me he was on vacation and when he would be home. As soon as he got back he came. I don't remember what the difference in time was. He came and did it as soon as he got back. He kind of did fine putting in the access door. He was just kind of messy. There was, like, glue all over the sheetrock and stuff all over the walls. It doesn't really matter because it is inside a closet, but had he done that kind of work where everybody saw it I would have been really bugged with that.
Description of Work: I used him for skilled carpentry or handyman services for one day. I had him fix a ceiling and a wall where there had been water damage. He put in an access door for my house because there was no access door and that is where the leak was.
