Overall the visit went well. We had a laundry list of items for him to work on - we bought a promo for 6 hours of a handyman. He ended up patching sheetrock around 3 windows and one new door. He also patched an old opening in our garage ceiling. He got everything done that we needed, plus a few other tasks we threw in there when we had time left at the end of our list. My husband was home with him while he worked, and said he was very pleasant and nice to work with.
Description of Work: Patched sheetrock around a few replacement windows and doors, taped

He was super nice and friendly. I had to do some work from home that day and he basically left me alone all day while he pluggled along.
Description of Work: I sent a long list of little tasks around the house - hang a porch swing, put up curtain rods, put up shelves, fix storm damage on the porch, put up a fence gate. He did them all! I was so impressed.

Chris was great to work with. After receiving photos of the various areas I needed work on, he popped over to double check in person (note: we live fairly near each other, so this probably isn't possible with all customers). He was able to get the entire "To Do" list covered, in fine form---a couple of solutions were better than what I had guessed would be necessary. By the end of the day, I truly felt I got my money's worth, and then some. He's a straight-up honest, hard working guy who wants the customer happy. Definitely someone I'd call on again.

Chris arrived promptly and ready to work. Because I had several projects, I suggested he choose the ones that he was most comfortable completing in the time allotted. He chose the flooring and baseboard trim plus window and door trim in the kitchen, and I'm ever so grateful that those were his choices! The floor is beautiful! The baseboard and door/window trim give the kitchen a finished look it didn't have before! The self-adhesive patterned wood-grain vinyl tile covers an ugly old floor that probably dates back to the 1950's. Chris's efforts basically gave me a new kitchen! His friendly, good-humored voluble nature makes him easy to work with, and he was generous with instructions as he showed me how to lay the last few pieces of tile that were left when my allotted time (on an Angie's List coupon special) ran out. I totally admire and respect his commitment to serve his next client on time as scheduled. One update: Some weeks after the work was completed, I noticed that many of the patterned wood-grain vinyl tiles applied by Chris were not oriented in the proper direction. As he began to apply them, I had mentioned several times that it was important to lay the tiles with the arrows printed on the adhesive backing all pointing in the same direction. The mismatched tiles are noticeable to me now, because I use the kitchen every day. They're also noticeable to visually trained persons, including an architect friend and an artist. However, most people don't seem to notice. At this point, the issue is moot because the tiles cannot be moved. In future, I'd probably look for an expert in patterned vinyl tile application. That said, the floor looks infinitely better than it did before Chris laid the tile! I'm still basically a happy camper!
Description of Work: Applied several kinds of baseboard molding in my kitchen. Installed door and window pre-primed wood trim. Installed new faux parquet vinyl floor tile in my kitchen.

Chris came out for a "handyman for day" deal that I purchased. This gave me 6.5 hours of his time. He came out a but late, but did call me to give me heads up that he was running late. Overall the job was completed, the only issue that I had was that several days later I noticed tape on one of the door casings in one of the bedrooms, because a piece of the wood has splintered off and he just taped it back on. I do have a problem with Chris not letting me know this at this time the job was completed, as he had an option to switch this particular piece of wood to a less noticeable location, now I am left trying to figure out what to do with it and how to repair it. Thats the reason for the lower grade. Other than that, he left a clean workspace and finished the task in 6.5 hours allotted.
Description of Work: Purchased the handyman for a day deal. Needed baseboard and door casings attached.

Chris worked diligently the whole time and brought everything he needed with him so he was prepared. (I had sent him photos ahead of time of the work that needed to be done.) He had creative solutions and asked for my input. For example, he pointed out that the moulding for the trim he had wasn't exactly the same as on the door. I said it was close enough. However I was delighted to see that he found a way to cut his trim so it did end up perfectly matching what was there.
Description of Work: This was a Handyman for a Day deal. He replace/repaired a wooden door sill and about 12 inches of wood rot on the trim on either side. Took storm door off and filled holes from rot. Rehung door so it was true. Replaced lower boards on side of my garage. Hung a retractable clothesline from garage.

Mr. Lemke was extremely responsive. He even came back at about 10 pm to put a window back up because he didn't want rain to come into the apartment. Mr. Lemke is also extremely fast in completing his work. If you hire him by the hour, you will get a really terrific value for the money. Attention to details can be ramped up a bit, but that's minor compared to the amount of work done in one day. In terms of service, you'll seldom meet someone like Mr. Lemke. He even helped another person who was working on the apartment--and he did that on his own time simply because it was the kind thing to do.

I knew of Chris by his sterling reputation but had never had occasion to call upon him for professional help. Due to recent storm damage to my house and those of my neighbors, I called Chris for advice. He listened . . . he diagnosed . . . and he explained many options for repairs that I and my neighbors might need. He also provided referrals for out consideration for certain types of work that he does not do. Clint Eastwood says that a man must know his limitations. Chris knows his specialties and does not hesitate to send work to other specialists. HIs honor and honesty are beyond question. His advice to me today saved me at least $500 and best of all, he told me how to get my damaged repaired in the same day! I look forward to future dealings with this skilled gentleman (to whom I am not related . . . just in case your wondering).

I called Chris to come and make an estimate and he replied promptly and completed an emailed estimate within a week. He had explained exactly what he planned to do. We had to wait for the spring weather to improve before he could do the work. As soon as it stopped snowing he was out and completed the work as he said he would. It was well done and he cleaned up everything. I would definitely have him back if I needed other work done and would recommend him.

Chris was friendly, professional and punctual. I had him frame in and install a couple doors in our basement. The work was good with the exception on the top of the door jamb being cracked all the way across so it cannot be covered, even with trim. I was surprised that it was not mentioned when he packed up. The other door was put in well and misc work around the basement was good. *3/11/2013 Chris came back and repaired the door jamb free of charge. Integrity move, thank you!

We contacted Chris to do some work on an existing built in. He was very prompt in returning my call and we arranged for him to come out to do an estimate. He was flexible in the time for coming out and all the options were within a reasonable amount of time from the call. He arrived on time for the estimate, was respectful of my home and followed up quickly with the quote. We arranged to have the work done. He gave me timing, came out on the promised date and completed the work. We were very happy and are now talking with him about our next project.

I purchased a deal for a "Handyman for the Day," and felt that I got my money's worth. Chris was very thorough yet efficient about completing the jobs which I had requested. He asked me to tell him advance what I needed to do so he had the correct tools, and everything went smoothly when he arrived. When I needed him to return a few days later to reinstall the toilet seat (a manufacturer defect, not his fault), he was very flexible about scheduling and we resolved the project quickly.
Description of Work: Chris did a variety of misc tasks, such as repair a towel bar, install toilet seat, place hooks in bathroom, fix handrail, help hang pictures, assemble desk furniture, install stair carpet (garage).

Chris was very prompt, friendly and conscientious. There were a few issues on the job, which Chris promptly resolved. I appreciated very much that he was ready fix the problems, and this is an important consideration in deciding who to hire. My reservation on using Chris again is because of the number of things that needed to be fixed.

I can't remember if I emailed or called, but heard back very quickly. Able to visit and review potential job, and able to come within a short timeframe. It helped that it was a 1-day job, so he was able to come soon. He came the day promised, worked hard all day, and finished everything he promised to do, including staying later than he had planned. We were happy with the quality of his work and would call him again for any trim carpentry needs.

We used the "handyman for a day" deal that Chris has and he worked from approximately 10 until 4 one day. We had him install a new service door to our garage that we purchased, and in the remaining time tape and mud a small stair landing area that we are refinishing. Chris picked up the door for us from Home Depot, came to the house, installed it, including a new lock and handle, then did some drywall inside. The garage door was not installed properly, as we had to re-install the door handle and lock. Even with the handle reinstalled, the door does not fully close, although the deadbolt does lock. The drywall work was fine, but he left it pretty messy and got mud all over the light fixture. We probably should have removed the fixture for him, but he could have done that as well. The mud job was fine although I did apply 2 more coats after sanding. Overall quality was average, although lacking in attention to detail. The price was very good for what we got. UPDATE: Chris came back to fix the garage door and it now works perfectly. He was very professional in coming out to make sure we were satisfied with the installation.

Chris is very personable and a hard worker.
Description of Work: Chris did a job framing / insulating our lower level remodel project. Chris was back several times to finish and correct errors. In moving on with the project we found that the framing left a lot to be desired in terms of walls being straight and plum, corners being square and plum, and doorways that were crooked and out of alignment. Basically everything was off and this caused additional work for any subsequent work that required a level or straight surface such as tiling, trim, door installation, etc.
