Armstrong did an excellent job from bid to finish. They promptly showed up for a scheduled estimate time and provided very good advice on how to best replace the sidewalk and prevent the type of cracks that occurred with the previous sidewalk. Their bid was comparable to one other we had done but I choose Armstrong because he presented a better plan for the work. They scheduled the job within a few weeks and performed the work in the exact time and manner that was promised. The job site was clean during and after the work. A very professional job!

Paul was very punctual for the estimate and I chose him as the contractor of choice as he is very detail oriented. The job was done to complete satisfaction! He removed steps when stated, prepped for pouring the concrete, was delayed only by the city's slow permit department, poured impeccable 3-riser steps and apron to code, had a subcontractor install the railings, and came back out to fill the holes with soil and even cut a landscaping brick to fit back in place! Excellent work! Will highly recommend Paul and his company to neighbors.

Over the past winter, the concrete steps leading from the sidewalk to my home crumbled badly. I contacted Paul, who had replaced part of my driveway over 5 years ago. The driveway Armstrong installed looks as good as the day it was poured, so I didn't bother to ask anyone else to bid on my steps. Armstrong offers a 5-year warranty, and the results prove it. (Two years ago, I had some concrete work done by another contractor, the results of which were not so great and neither was their one-year warranty.) My new Armstrong steps look beautiful, and I'm confident they will last.
Description of Work: Paul Armstrong and his crew demolished my existing front steps and poured 9 new steps with runners (see photo).

Paul Armstrong scheduled an appointment to bid on the job, showed up exactly on time to look things over, talked to me about what I wanted, made suggestions, and gave me a bid after a few minutes of calculation. I got one other bid (also good) but ultimately decided to go with Armstrong (bid was roughly $400 lower). Armstrong was scheduling 2 months out but mentioned that, if it was important, they could work on an earlier date for me. 2 months out was fine with me so I booked it. Because of rain the week of the install, they were 1/2 day behind schedule but Paul Armstrong called to alert me to that and the slight delay made no difference to me. They showed up at noon with a large and industrious crew and a lot of equipment, and made short work of removing the old sidewalk and hauling away the debris. Paul was on site when I stopped by 2 hours in (from work) to see how things were going and got my OK on a few minor decision points. The forms were in by the time I got home that night and the cement was poured the next morning. By noon the new sidewalk was in and finished. It looks great. Nice curves at the corners, flat, smooth, raised appropriately, and no debris left behind. Two neighbors who poked around and watched the process from start to finish have stopped by to tell me how amazed they were at the all-out effort that went into it and to comment favorably on the end result. I'm very happy with the final product too! The only thing that caught me by surprise is that I needed to fill in a lot of dirt along the new sidewalk where the concrete forms had been. There was a 1.5" to 2" empty slot or so along both edges for the full length of the sidewalk. Dirt is (dirt) cheap and I solved it with a 3 or 4 hours of hauling, lifting, and tromping. I'll seed it this fall. Truthfully, it was good exercise but, given the choice I would have preferred to have those strong young men do the dirt-fill-in for me while they were on site. This is not actually a complaint - just something I didn't know enough to ask about in advance and, in an ideal world, I would rather have been told what to expect and offered a "we'll do the dirt fill-in for you for x $ solution" which I could have opted for or not. That was minor though. The sidewalk is great and I highly recommend Armstrong Concrete. A good work ethic, good craftsmanship, and a fine result.

At our initial meeting for an estimate, I knew that Paul was top notch. He is a great listener, has great suggestions, and is very detail oriented. He was able to squeeze us in a very tight schedule. His crew were polite and efficient - there was NO sitting around! His quote was a good deal lower than our other estimates. From now on, we'll call Armstrong for our concrete needs. No mess, no fuss, great results!

Paul was very prompt in providing an estimate. He answered all my questions and was willing to remove some rock and shrubs that lined the sidewalk. On the scheduled day they arrived on time and got right to work removing the existing driveway, sidewalk and garage floor. They had to add fill to the garage floor to bring the base up to the proper level to match the remaining floor. We had added a front porch to the house a couple of years ago and the steps were on top of part of the sidewalk. His crew did an excellent job of cutting the sidewalk up against the steps so the new sidewalk would fit against the bottom of the porch stairs. Weather prevented the pouring of the concrete for a couple of days. When Paul and his crew returned, they poured and finished the concrete in an efficient and professional manner. They did an excellent job of matching the new floor to the existing one. The job site was always clean when they left. Neighbors have remarked about the quality of the work. I would definitely us Paul again on any concrete work I needed done and I highly recommend him to others.

I asked Armstrong Concrete to come out to do an estimate on my driveway because I was concerned about some cracks that seemed to be appearing. Paul came out on a Saturday to do the estimate (in the rain) and walked my entire driveway with me looking at cracks and educating me about concrete and the types of cracks that were in the driveway. Since I had Paul out, I also showed him my garage slab and front step. He was gracious enough to look at these things even though they were not what I had asked him out to look at. After looking at everything, Paul helped me address which items were a top priority to repair and which more aesthetic in nature. Never once did Paul try to "make a sale." He was courteous and informative. After meeting with him, I decided to have the front step and garage slab replaced. He was able to fit the work in about 2 and half weeks after the estimate and when he and his team came to do the work they were again nothing but courteous. They did their work efficiently, professionally, and quite quietly - I hardly even knew they were there. They took extra care not run over existing gardens along the driveway and even let me know that I should replace the gasket in my hose. The step and garage slab look fabulous and I couldn't be happier with the work that was done.

We had 3 different companies do an estimate for us. Our job was a bit complicated, as our backyard had old brick pavers behind the garage that needed to be removed, as well as a raised area for flowers surrounded by wood that needed to be removed. We also have 4 steps leading down to a back door, with a small sidewalk in front of a large basement window. Paul Armstrong had the best ideas of the 3 men who completed estimates for ways to creatively incorporate all the areas of our backyard into a well-designed patio. He spent a lot of time with us on a Saturday morning and answered all of our questions. We hired him on the spot. We then had to re-schedule twice, and Paul was extremely patient with us. On the day the work was scheduled, Paul showed up with lots of equipment and trucks and a crew of 6 or 8 guys, and they got to work right away. They worked from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM with only about a 20 minute break for lunch. I was exhausted just watching them! They dug out the old pavers, and removed lots of dirt so that the patio would slope away from the garage and house for drainage. They removed the wood timbers, and dug a trench from a downspout out into the yard so that they could divert the rainwater underneath our patio into our yard. They did all of the work by hand and hauled everything out with wheelbarrows, because they said that a Bobcat would do too much damage to our yard. They also put in a new drain by our back door. They finished the prep work around 2:00, and then started with the concrete. The concrete truck was parked in our driveway, and the crew took wheelbarrows full of concrete and brought them into our backyard. They also laid down tarps to protect our grass. They then spent the next several hours finishing the concrete. They also added a curved sidewalk from our existing steps to the patio, and replaced the small sidewalk in front of our window. In addition, they replaced one section of our front sidewalk. They agreed to leave the steps in place by our back door, which saved us some money. There were a lot of leaves falling on the day they did the work, and they were very careful about removing every single one. They also did a great job cleaning up after themselves before they left. They even rolled up our hose, which had been lying across the lawn before they arrived! They came back at the end of October, after the concrete had had time to cure, and applied a sealer. We are very happy with our new patio, and can't wait to use it next summer. We were very impressed with Armstrong Concrete's attention to detail and work ethic, and we would highly recommend them to anyone.

1. Paul was very prompt with returning our call for an estimate. During this process he asked questions and offered suggestions. 2. The estimate took very little time to complete and he gave it to us on the spot. 3. We had issues with the city. They were planning to lay final layer of asphalt on our street. The driveway would need to be completed before it was laid or we would have to wait quite a bit later. Paul told us not to worry, that he would fit us in. The city was not at all helpful in giving us an estimated time frame--"The sooner the better." Sure enough, the city let us know the Friday before the Monday that we were to have our driveway done, that they would be doing the street work on that Monday. Paul was very good about rearranging the schedule. 4. Paul kept me informed about what he needed from me, and when he would need me for any questions. He had a great crew and Paul was present during most of the work. 5. I was extremely impressed with the organization, conscientiousness, and efficiency of the company. 6. The driveway looks fantastic. The way Paul designed and poured the sidewalk more than met my expectations! I have heard nothing but compliments on the change that it has made to our house. Everyone comments "I love what you did with the side walk!"
Description of Work: 1. Removed asphalt driveway, existing sidewalk from driveway to house, and removed existing concrete steps at front door. 2. Expanded driveway to 24 feet wide. 3. Installed new landing, and 2 steps in front of front door. 4. Installed new 26 foot curving sidewalk from driveway to steps. 5. Applied penetrating sealer 30 days after concrete was poured.

Paul arrived at the scheduled time and provided an estimate to replace some of my asphalt driveway with a concrete apron. His estimate was considerably lower than two other contractors, and he was the only one that recommended lining it up with my walkway so it would look nice. We scheduled the work for about a month out, and the crew arrived on time. They let me know that they were also doing another home near me, and that they would be back and forth a bit. Everything went well and I was pleased with the work. The concrete is now level with my driveway slab, which is great since I no longer have the big bump to drive over. The apron also slopes away from the slab to drain water away. I was invoiced by mail a few days later.

An EXCELLENT experience overall. Paul Armstrong came out to give an estimate in mid-July. I accepted the estimate and he set the date for October so that his firm could get driveways done before onset of winter. He assured me that he is present and working, as well as overseeing every job his firm does. So, he was first to arrive at @7:30 the morning of Oct. 24th. His crew arrived shortly after and they got right to work, removing the old concrete. (They were all friendly, and obviously use to working as a team!) It was fascinating to see them work as we have a steep driveway and they had to use a smaller vehicle to come up the driveway and get the old concrete, as well as deliver the new concrete. It was very apparent that Mr. Armstrong and his crew knew what they were doing and had lots of experience doing it. When they finished, I was told how long to stay off the patio to allow it to dry, and also told that a crew member would return the next day to put sealant down. All this occurred as promised. All who have seen the new patio have admired it!! I would certainly recommend them to others and use them again for any other concrete work.
Description of Work: Armstrong replaced my patio and some front steps which were severely cracked. My patio had many major cracks and had settled in such a fashion that it was shifted downwards toward my house, causing water to run into window wells and seep into the house. The work involved removal of the old concrete, leveling/clearing of the space (even removing an old gas grill) and pouring of concrete in such a fashion that the patio is slightly shifting AWAY from the house. They built up the walls around the basement windows as well. They also redid the two front steps that were defective, replacing them with 4 steps, making it easier to go up the steps from the street. The patio is absolutely beautiful. One of my elderly dogs now can get into the house because of the general lift of the patio and the lower height of the step into the house.

I have never been more impressed with a contractor. He came in, gave me a bid, scheduled the work, then did it while making everything seem so straighforward and easy that I was sure something was wrong - but he did everything he promised on time, as i wanted and with absolutely no drama or theatrics - amazing contractor - incredibly honest and hardworking, amazing work - clean, better quality than my original driveway. I had had a bid from Hagen last year and they wanted $10,000 just to do the crushed section of concrete. Armstrong's bid of $3000 for the same work allowed me room to ask for an extra parking stall to be added, making for a total of $4000 - still less than half what the big name/even bigger price contractor was trying to get away with. Use Armstrong with total confidence, this is a first class operator.

This whole initial experience on Angies List was a failure and I'm unhappy I subscribed. Boo.
Description of Work: This was the first time I used Angies List to find a service provider. Armstrong Concrete was near the top of the list. I made an appointment with them to visit my premises for an estimate. He called the morning of the appointment and stated he never listened to my whole message and that he was not qualified to do the work. There were other contractors I attempted to reach - all rated A on Agies List - only one other called me back, and then I could not get hold of him. I found Armstrong Concrete incompetent since they didn't bother to listen to what I was requesting, then left me high and dry. Now I will have to wait another week to get someone out here to look at the work - in the meantime I have other contractors waiting to get started.
