Overall we were pleased with Armstrong Concrete. He and his team work very hard, show up early each day and were very professional. We did have an issue with some concrete blocks (this delayed the project for 2 weeks, which delayed the framing as well). Paul did his best to remedy the situation - and he and his crew spent 2 very long days finishing up these blocks in time for the framing to start a few days later. We are very satisfied with the overall result and would certainly hire them in the future.

I called two concrete contractors. One bid $4736 and Armstrong bid $3620. I chose Armstrong due to their good record and lower bid. We were scheduled for September 30th, but Armstrong called about Sept. 14 and asked if they could begin earlier, since they had a convenient opening. I was working on a paver-block project, and my driveway was full of blocks and sand for the project. Armstrong offered to move these materials for me, so they could start their job early. I agreed to this win-win situation and was quite happy to have all those blocks moved closer to the project site. They completed the sidewalk and driveway job in one day, and returned two days later to cut the concrete joints, finishing on Sept. 18. I was very happy with the quality of their work.

Paul Armstrong gave me an estimate (the best of two) and I hired him to remove the old apron from the driveway and replace it with new. He said he would also replace the partially attached sidewalk, which was not even with the driveway anymore. He was prompt, neat, and had the whole job done in two days and I am thrilled with the way it looks. He accepted a Angie's list coupon and I saved $50.

Armstrong was professional from start to finish. Their price was over $1000 lower than other companies we received quotes from. They arrived when they said they would, completed the work quickly, and cleaned up their mess before leaving. The driveway and sidewalk look great. We would definitely use them again in the future.

We just had a new double garage built, and needed a wider driveway to access it. We decided to go with concrete, since our old asphalt driveway was too much maintenance (crack repairs and sealcoating). When our new garage was built it was raised higher than the old on-grade slab, and therefore our old connecting sidewalk no longer matched up to it. Instead of just replacing the connecting sections, we decided to replace the whole sidewalk for continuity. Paul and his crew had replaced our front steps last year, and we were confident of the quality of his work, as well as his price point. Paul was able to come out on the same day that I called and give me an estimate on the work. Luckily, it was early enough in the season, he was able to schedule our pour the next week. All the different concrete elements flow together very nicely, from the front step and sidewalk, to the tie in with the driveway and garage apron. We have received nothing but compliments from neighbors and other contactors as well.

Paul came out and did an estimate for us within a few days of our contacting him. He did a very thorough estimate, breaking down different elements that we were looking at so that we could choose which services we wanted. We scheduled the project for a few weeks later. Paul called about a week before they were scheduled and said they had time that week to do the work if we wanted them to come out early. I agreed and they were out that very day. They completed the demolition and prep that day and poured the concrete and finished the project the next day. His team was very professional and easy to work with and really went the extra mile on a few things - things they didn't have to do but did it and made my work that much easier. I would hire them again and recommend anyone who has a concrete project to call Paul and his team. The walkways and stairs look great, we're very happy with the results

Our asphalt driveway had almost completely collapsed and partially disintegrated so it was well past due for complete replacement. We also had a very old and far-too-small patio out the back so we decided to get both items done at one go. I use Angie's List a lot to obtain contractors because to me it is more important to get the highest quality than to save a few $$$, so I looked for a concrete contractor, having already decided that asphalt wasn't what I wanted. It didn't take long to figure out that Armstrong Concrete was the most likely contractor for the job. Paul Armstrong confirmed the time to meet the following Saturday after I'd emailed him the general outline of what I wanted. He listened well and understood what I was looking for. That said, it wasn't particularly complex - I needed the driveway completely ripping out and replacing and the patio ripping out and (roughly) tripling in size. Both were regular shapes, no fancy pieces required although the city did require that a small part of the driveway by the road should not be concreted due to lack of a drop curb, so Paul suggested a nicely curved piece to meet with the neighboring yard, as well as a pad for the garbage container. Paul made a couple of good suggestions himself and noted every aspect of what I wanted, including making sure the new patio met the bottom of the steps to indoors (the old patio had sunk a couple inches), rounded corners and so on. I felt involved and in control of the process. On day one, they tore out two very old bushes, the entire old patio, all the grass area necessary to make space for the patio and then laid about one third of the patio area too. On top of this they also ripped out every trace of asphalt from the drive, set up all the formwork and did the preparation. They worked for over eleven hours with only a short break for lunch. Day two saw the driveway completely laid (this is about five hours due to a threat of rain in the morning). Day three saw the entire job completed. A word about the Armstrong crew - they are a great bunch of guys. They work very hard, they laugh and sing, they never use any kind of off-color language and they are polite and respectful. Oh yes - they are very skilled too. The clean up was perfect. Nothing whatsoever was left behind - they even made sure the entire width of the road was clean. So -what does it look like? Wonderful. Sure, it's concrete but it's extraordinarily well done. This work has transformed the front and back of our house.

It went great. Paul came out twice prior to getting the job (both Saturdays) - once to do an initial bid, once to do a follow-up and confirm the work we wanted complete. He and his crew arrived bright and early on the day planned and had everything finished by 5:00 PM the following day. They were neat, didn't leave a mess, did minimal damage to the surrounding yard and left a quality, well formed driveway and floor. Their price was almost 1/2 of the only other bid I got!

Paul and his crew arrived on time. They all worked very hard in humid conditions. They finished the projects ahead of the time frame. After the work was finished, his crew cleaned up the work site. The work site actually looked better after their cleanup than it did before the project began. Paul's attention to every detail is very impressive. And his crew seems to work with this same work ethic. I am looking for other projects for Paul and his company to do next year.

Armstrong Concrete does great work, and they are prompt and polite. Further, I am frankly amazed at the lengths Paul, the owner, went through to stand behind his work and ensure my satisfaction. Armstrong concrete will be my first choice for any further concrete work on my property. The bid was not the absolute lowest I got. However I feel that I more than got my money's worth.

I was concerned about losing the original look of the house if I gave up the buttresses. So at our first meeting I asked Paul Armstrong for alternatives to the plain landing/3 steps down look. He came up with 3-4 possible designs (including one with buttresses), and gave me written estimates for all of them while there. He also offered a price reduction if I decided to have the sidewalk done at the same time as the steps. He provided a map and spreadsheet with addresses of all the work his company had done in the last 5 years, so I could see examples of his sidewalks, steps, etc.! I later saw a prairie-style railing design in the neighborhood which I really liked. I told Paul that I'd go with the plainest steps and landing, and use those railings to reflect the style of the house. He removed the cost of his single railing ($465), and worked with O'Brien Ornamental Iron to incorporate/install their railings. So Armstrong's original price for the 3 areas was $4600; doing sidewalk and steps together reduced it to $4015, and then he took off the price of his railing. On 4/13 Paul and his crew arrived as promised near noon to do the demolition and dig the footings; they finished pouring the concrete the following afternoon. The forms were removed 1-2 days later, and soil near the work was filled in. All the work areas were completely cleaned up; they were careful of all the surrounding plants, and they did quality work. They even made a temporary repair to the bottom of the garage access door though I had mentioned it was being replaced! I can't say enough good things about this company - I'd use them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Armstrong Concrete tore up and replaced 2 sections of the public city sidewalk which had sunk, making a dangerously large icy area during melt/freeze periods in winter, and a large, deep pool of water in summer; they took out my old front steps and buttresses as the steps had been sinking, and the buttresses were cracked and crumbling; finally, they removed several concrete blocks (the 'threshhold' to my garage access door) which were no longer properly aligned, and replaced them with poured concrete.

Our driveway was an irregular shape with an incline up to the garage -nothing but dirt and weeds - a real eyesore. Paul Armstrong came out last fall to give us an estimate and we made an appointment for the spring. We did consider asphalt, briefly. However, we were impressed with the detail and value of the estimate. (Our asphalt estimates were actually quite expensive.) As soon as it was warm enough to pour the concrete, a crew came out and prepared the surface. The next day, the concrete was poured. The crew showed up early in the morning, worked continuously for several hours each day, cleaned up the area and left the entire space looking immaculate. Very professional. We love our new driveway. The quality of their work is excellent!

Armstrong Concrete came to do the work they were punctual and took as long as they were expected. The estimate was correct. Unfortunately there was a leak and it did not fix the problem. They have come back and tried to fix the problem, but we are not sure if it is fixed because it was at the end of the season and now everything is frozen. I would use them again in the future for other concrete work. Updated 01/2013 - The leak that they promised would be fixed was never repaired and we stil get moisture into the basement. It's really frustrating because we paid more for what I thought was quality work but I've had other people out who said there should have been flashing and seals done that were not.

This company does great work, and Paul is very easy to communicate with. I'd had him out a few years ago to do an estimate on various concrete projects, and I called him back this year when I was ready to do the stoop and walkway. He really listens to what you want (I was very specific about how the stoop should jut out a little around the porch, and just how the walkway should curve), and he delivers a beautiful product. His workmen are very nice. Highly recommend!
