We were pleased with every aspect of our experience. Jason was prompt with an onsite visit, with offering options, with a return visit to finalize the plan, and with an estimate. His design ideas were great and he was very open to our concerns and limitations. Work was begun just as scheduled and finished in the number of days he estimated. Jason was here on site throughout the process, and was always and willing to answer questions. Most important, we are so very happy with the completed deck -- it is solid, sturdy and more attractive than we had even hoped! We thought the pricing was very fair considering the quality of the materials and workmanship. Even though this was a relatively small project (demolition and construction took just over four days) Jason treated us with the same attention and courtesy as if we'd been a major client. Would highly recommend and would definitely call for future projects.

We met with Jason a couple times to discuss our vision for a new deck. We have a modern house and wanted an interesting deck design to match our taste. We went through a couple iterations - after each discussion Jason would draw up a draft of the design. We settled on a design featuring a staggered privacy fence and fan shaped steps. The material was cedar with metal posts to maximize the view of our back yard. Everything could not have turned out better! Jason and crew worked hard every day and the deck was finished in about a week. Jason is very responsive and professional and a very good listener. We could not be happier!

I can't say enough good about Jason and his work, from design to construction, to the many small details. The two men were extremely professional and worked together seamlessly, making the whole experience a very good one. Communication was excellent at all times, and we frequently consulted on a multitude of decisions as the project progressed. There were engineering problems due to a previous excavation project, and Jason came up with excellent solutions that avoided major additional expense. These men were a pleasure to work with, and although we were very glad when the project was completed, we did miss having them around. The building inspector highly praised the work of this crew. The cost was significant, but we feel it was worth every penny to get such a wonderful and professional result. We highly recommend Jason for any work you may need done.

Jason came out to the house and discussed the project with us. He gave us a few options for materials and designs and gave us pricing for all options. Materials arrived on time and the work was completed on schedule. He did a great job communicating throughout the process. I did get a few bids on the project and he was similar in cost to other companies but his presentation and understanding of our needs/wants sealed the deal.

Jason and Tristan did an amazing job! We met with Jason to get an estimate. We felt right away he was who we wanted to build our deck. He was knowledgeable, honest, and very attentive to detail. He came when he said he was coming and always prompt in getting back to us, if we had questions. Would definitely recommend them and have already! We have had problems with jobs done for us in the past and it was SO nice to have a job done so professionally!

Far and away the best service we have ever received from a contractor! We started our project by sketching out concepts of what we wanted our finished product to look like. Jason was on-time to the first meeting, and every other meeting afterwards. We discussed our vision for what the porch should look and feel like, and were pretty specific up front. Jason came back with a quote which was higher then others we had received, but his attention to detail and customer service is what sold us. After Jason started the project, he provided a daily update of what we could expect to be completed that day, and what the rest of the week would look like. Upon the project start, he introduced us to his team (Tristan), and we felt really confident/comfortable with them working at the house every day. With all home projects, we did come across issues that deviated from our original plan. What really impressed us is when an issue arose, Jason worked with us to ultimately overcome the obstacle. There wasn't a single issue that we came across that he wasn't able to figure out. When the project was complete, what really amazed us/friends/family was Jason's attention to detail. Not only did the porch turn out exactly the way we planned it, there wasn't a single thing that we would change almost three months later. One thing that stuck with us is something that Jason said in the first meeting....."If you select me to build this deck, I will build it and plan it out as if I'm building it for my own house. I don't want a single detail to be missed, and I want this to be exactly as you envision it." Not only did Jason accomplish this, he exceeded every expectation we had. I would have absolutely no problem hiring Jason for any other project, and in fact he will be the first call we make on the next project.

Overall, we are extremely pleased. Initially I thought the bid was a bit pricey, but if you saw the craftsmanship and care that went into completing the job, you would agree it was worth evert penny! The work was done when promised. Good communication throughout the process! Thanks, Jason, for an outstanding job!!

There is not enough room to write how pleased we are on every level of the work done. THE BID PROCESS Jason arrived when he said he would and the first thing he did was ask and listen to what we would like done. He asked clarifying questions to ensure he understood and then did a visual inspection of the work to be done. He then sat down, prior to any bid, and explained in simple language what options we had and what he would recommend. No hard sell, just options and pros/cons. He said that he would get back with bids for a couple of options within a couple of days and we could let him know (which he did). THE COMPETITION We did our due diligence and felt we had selected three great providers to select from. All had similar products and the prices were competitive, Jason separated himself from the other two because he really listened, looked, clarified his understanding of the project and then made the recommendations. It was not until the work was completed that we really understood just how fortunate we were to have selected him for the work. THE WORK Jason scheduled the work, handled the building permit and disposal. He asked how we would like him to store the new materials and the old materials and as promised showed up on time with Tristan - an excellent craftsman - to begin the work. As they worked to their schedule, the communication was OUTSTANDING explaining each step, what we could expect next and constantly checking with us on our satisfaction. Along the way they had suggestions on how they may alter the plan, not to add expense, but to make the end product better. By doing so they immediately built a strong CREDIBILITY and TRUST that continued throughout the project. Not only was the end work BEAUTIFUL and the construction strong, but it was the little things that were really value adds, strengthening existing supports, not just replacing the screen door, but creating the water barrier on the floor, etc. COMMUNICATION I will mention this again. They kept us informed, delivered on their commitment and it was a pleasure having them around. They were not intrusive, actually did their work without a lot of disruption and were extremely PROFESSIONAL in all they did respecting our property as if it were there own. I truly believe that our Golden Retriever was sad to see them leave as they always took time to pet him and throw him his ball when he was outside. CLEAN UP you can imagine the potential for nails, wood splinters, screws, etc. being left in the yard where much of the prep work was done. This was not the case with Jason and Tristan. When they were done, you could not tell that they were even here. The clean up was immaculate. They stacked the boards we wanted to keep and made sure all other waste was removed from the property. THE END RESULT The only question we had was why we did not contact Jason earlier! The deck and stairs look SHOWROOM beautiful. Jason's early recommendations really made a difference in the materials used, color of the products and the completion of a DREAM DECK that our family and friends will enjoy for years to come! Jason and Tristan truly exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend you consider them for any related projects you are considering.

Building Decks & Beyond LLC (Jason) were in the final selection on a deck project for my home. Jason came out for quickly after my request was submitted and was able to walk through the project, asked what we were looking for, responded well to our questions, and offered very appropriate options to consider as well. The estimate of the work, the quality of materials he was proposing, etc were very good and timely in getting back to me. Pricing was very competitive with the other final firm I looked at. Due to his work schedule we ended up going with another firm - but I would gladly look at them for any future projects that would come up.

Our project started off as wanting to rebuild our upper deck that was attached to our 4 season porch. We have been in the house for over thirteen years and some of the wood decking was deteriorating and the railings didn't seem secure. We decided to replace and expand our upper deck and replace the decking on the lower deck with a lower maintenance option. We had three different remodelers come out to provide estimates. What we didn't expect is that we were told by all three that our existing 4 season porch was not to code. The previous home owner constructed a 4 season porch on an existing deck, so it wasn't properly attached to the house and the existing footings were inadequate. When we bought the house, this was not found by our home inspector and finding this out now caused us concern about the durability and safety of the porch and concerns for when it comes time to sell the house. Out of the three people that came to provide estimates, we were most impressed with the professionalism from Jason with Building Decks and Beyond and decided to go with him. We are glad we did! He was pleasant to work with and kept us informed throughout the entire project. This project started in the beginning of November and Jason and his assistant (Sorry, I am terrible with names!) just got the concrete footings in right before the first Winter storm. I was expecting to be told that this would now be a Spring project, but he said they could keep working as long as they got the footings in before the ground froze. This was the worst weather in November for cold and snow in all of my memory, but Jason and his assistant came prepared and tackled the job. There were days that were so cold and miserable that I told my husband that there is no way they would be working that day. To my surprise, they would show up the same time every morning. They did a terrific job (A+++) and we are very happy with the results - can't wait to use our new deck this Spring!

In addition to the Big Deal room addition, Jason also designed and installed a large closet and three sets of shelving for storage, which was enormously helpful to me in my quest to create more useful space without incurring the cost of an entire basement remodel. All of the work performed looked great - and still does, nearly two years later. (Sorry Angie's List and Jason that this took me so long!) He was thoughtful, flexible and courteous, and helped me out with a couple of minor repairs that were not connected to the project. I had no complaints at all about this company, and would definitely hire them again. In fact, I tried to hire Jason back last year when I was ready to proceed with my sun room, but he was already booked out and not taking on house additions. Highly recommended!

We are very happy with how the porch turned out. It is beautiful. Since it leads on one side to a future concrete patio (going to be installed this spring), Jason did a great job designing temporary steps that are easily removable for us to use until the patio is poured. The design also gives us some flexibility if we decide to alter the original plans for the patio. Jason was very helpful in this regard and went the extra mile on it. His communication was great too.

I waited a year and a half to do this review, plenty of time to discover any problems with the deck. To date I have not had any problems, even with the heavy snow and extra deep frost this winter. Jason Wrolstad is the owner of the company and did the work with an assistant. He was very professional, answered all my questions and responded in a timely manner to all of my email requests. He was punctual, completed all of the work within the specified time period and right on budget. The quality of the work and materials was excellent. They did a thorough job keeping the work area clean and cleaning up after the construction was complete. This is the kind of experience that I would like to have with every contractor I use. We are very pleased with the way the deck has turned out.

They did a great job and I like my porch very much. My husband and I are very pleased. The porch was built quickly and they were done in just over 1 day. The porch looks beautiful from inside the house as well as outside. The service was very good, quality materials were used and the company followed up well. Our friends have been complimentary about the looks of the porch.

Jason and his employees built a 20x10 Timbertech terrain deck with westbury railing and TT post covers. We love our new deck. We did have to wait a little longer as there was a bit of a wait list this summer but Jason and his crew were absolutely worth the wait. He is very patient and knowledgeable, and took the time to give me ideas when I wasn't sure what I wanted. He also explains things in depth and was very willing to make changes when we wanted them in our design and materials. Jason built us a much needed privacy wall on one side which looks great and very modern. I am very happy in my decision to hire them as I'm not sure I would have received such customization and service from every company.

In my review of deck contractors yesterday, I stated that Jason, from Building Decks and Beyond, in Hastings, said that he would email me an estimate as to his labor costs, to replace my deck. I stated that I never received the email. This morning, Oct 3rd, Jason called and told me that he did send me an email as to his labor cost.He emailed me another copy of his estimate this morning. I told him that, while I never got his email, I would add this addendum to my comments. At least, he followed up on my comments. My only suggestion would be, as a contractor, to follow up on emails, phone calls, etc, to make sure the client got the information. If the client doesn't act on it, at least the contractor has followed through.

I had job bids from three contractors. Price was comparable for all. After meeting with all three, I selected Jason because I felt confident I could trust him and that he could perform the work to meet my expectations. I have been through many major renovations, sometimes doing the work myself. I tend to be picky about how things are done and have a keen eye for flaws. Jason and his partner (Christian?) started on-time, were polite /open to my ongoing input, quickly made corrections as needed and finished on-time at the bid price. They are very capable of performing the work and do a high quality job. I would use them again.

My experience overall went very well.

Jason was not the low cost vendor but the workmanship and professionalism more than made up for it. High quality lumber was used - not from a 'big box' retailer and the crew worked efficiently with detail. I especially appreciated the attention to small details the layout of centering the deck on the house to maintain window views, a detailed and clear quotation, and his regular informative communication throughout the construction process. When a concern did surface, Jason responded quickly and with alternative solutions that made sense and were cost effective. I couldn't be more pleased with the work performed.

We had Jason come over for an estimate because of his high ratings on Angie's List. We were very impressed with him and thought his estimate was fair. We were undecided on what type of deck we wanted, and Jason was very helpful during the decision making process. He brought over deck samples to help us decide. He was very good about quickly responding to phone calls and emails. When Jason and his employee Tristan started working maybe a month later, the temperature was in the high 90s for many days. They still worked very hard all day long. They were very organized with the materials and cleaned up the yard and their work space every day. It took them less than a week to tear down the old deck and build most of the new one. The railing we ended up choosing was non-standard and thus took a few weeks longer to get. So they built a temporary wood railing and finished the job in one day after the railing came in. Overall we are extremely happy with the work Jason did and love our new deck. Jason is very professional and we would recommend him without hesitation.

Jason was very helpful from the beginning. He provided many samples of the material options and looks for our new deck. I appreciated the hands on approach. The workers were prompt and courteous. Jason kept us updated throughout the project on any issues or delays. He also went above and beyond by providing options and recommended companies for our footings to avoid the same issue from before. Jason saved us money on a window that had received water damage by contacting the company and getting it replaced under warranty, I was ready to fork over $900! I would highly recommend Jason and Building Decks and Beyond for their quality of work and attention to all the details.

Jason was great to work with from the first day we met him through completion of the project - he was very professional and knowledgeable and kept us informed of progress and updated deadlines all along the way. He kindly met with us several times before the project got started as well as during construction to ensure we were all in agreement and fully satisfied with each stage of construction. Prior to building he asked important questions and made recommendations to improve our deck design. The final deck is gorgeous - we love it and have already gotten a lot of compliments. A fully synthetic deck was a big expenditure and with that kind of money, it was really important to us to know that we had someone we could trust all the way through. Prior to building we had gotten another quote from a different company that was more of a general contractor and it was competitively priced with Jason. We opted to have Jason build the deck since we respected and trusted him right away and found the fact that he would be doing the work himself rather than sub-contracting comforting. We strongly recommend Jason and the entire Building Decks and Beyond team to anyone who would like a professionally built deck at a great price and would hire him again for any future projects.

Jason was very responsive from start to finish. He initially drew up a plan after we described what we wanted. We reviewed the plan with Jason about the various details of the deck and when we felt we understood each other, he sent us an estimate. Jason also met us at the new home site to do a visual assessment. We interviewed two other deck contractors but selected Jason based on favorable reviews, fair price, and his willingness to work with us and accommodate our ideas. Because we were building a new home, there was a delay of a few weeks between our conversations with Jason and when we actually hired him, and he was just as nice despite the lag time. Once the project began, Jason and his co-worker Christian, worked diligently every day until it was complete. If one of them needed to leave early, they let us know. Both Jason and Christian were very knowledgable and obviously had worked as a team for a while. Jason also had all the proper equipment for the job. They cleaned up the work area completely when they were finished. We are very happy with our new deck and would recommend Jason to anyone considering building one.

We built our home 8 years ago and we've had several construction projects since then on different parts of the house. Of all these projects, the porch Jason built for us was the best experience we've had with a contractor. Jason is stellar about keeping in touch and responding to email or phone calls. He provided a detailed estimate early on, worked with us to get the cost down and was very clear on how the changes we made along the way affected the cost. The porch is 100% maintenance free with no exposed wood to be stained or sealed and no siding that that needs to be painted. There are less expensive options, but this what we wanted and those features are reflect in the overall project cost shown. Once construction began, things went very smoothly. There were occasional delays due to the extreme heat in July but this was understandable and clearly communicated to us. The end result was better than expected. We use the porch every day we have the opportunity, rain or shine, day and night. I plan to work with Jason and his team in the future and have no reservations recommending Building Decks and Beyond to others.
