Mr Handyman of SW Minneapolis & SW Suburbs

I made the appointment to have them come out. They didn't show up, so I called. After speaking with the woman, she assured me it was because it was the following Wednesday. Although not convinced, I was ok with the response thinking I might have written down the wrong day. The following Wednesday came, and again no one showed up. I called and was told that she would call the technician and see where he was at and immediately call me back. I waited and no call back. This was very frustrating considering I needed the service completed by the 31st of Oct. and had let 2 weeks pass. The quote for the work seemed very reasonable, but their lack of responsiveness was very frustrating. I never received a call back from Mr. Handyman, so I have no idea what happened. I cannot comment on the quality of work they perform because they never showed up to do the work. Prices did seem fair/reasonable compared to other places.

Because I had a variety of things done I wanted an all-around handyman. I had used them, maybe, two years before at the last minute and they were able to get right in. It was convenient and they are reliable. They show up when they say they will. They seem knowledgeable and they clean up any messes they make.

Very responsive. Came out on short notice when we were vacating a rental house and had some last minute repairs to make. Very prompt and helpful. Very task oriented. Didn't waste time chatting. Went from one repair to the next very efficiently.

It was great - we had to call on short notice because of a family emergency and he came the time and day we needed him here - he did the work, it was work well done and the price was fair.

He arrived promptly and did a perfect job.

Easy scheduling. Responsive to a need to return to do a missed area.

They canceled their appointment with me the day that it was supposed happen. I am very unhappy with them. I would not recommend them. They were supposed to come out about three months ago. I had to wait a month for the appointment and then on the day of the appointment they canceled it, so that is basically it. They were supposed to come out to do some miscellaneous handyman stuff that I wanted done.

They’ve done really well. They are very personable, which is great. I like the way they have a person that answers the phone; that person then identifies the person that is supposed to come to do the work. I can always reach someone there.

He was fairly appable. It was fine. I don't remember any problems with the work he did.

I appreciated that there was some one to answer my call and take the information on what I needed done. On some others you have to leave a message and wait for a return call which is often some time in coming, if at all.. Someone came the next day , looked at the job and gave me an estimate on the spot. I thought the price was within reason although not the lowest. He estimated that it would take two days, but was finished in one and adjusted the price accordingly. I did feel that I should have had more input on the planning and would have done a few things differently if we had discussed it more. It was probably my responsibility to have kept more of an eye on exactly how the project was proceeding. But I do feel that some of the issues that I had should have been obvious. They took care of disposal of the debris and cleaned the area very well. In general I am satisfied with this project and would use this company again.

The service provider did not respond with information or an estimate for service after being told they would do so.

The person they sent did not have the knowledge needed for the items I requested be done. The person had to call someone on what he needed to do to complete the tasks. Since you pay on an hourly basis, the cost was considerably more than I expected. The company never called me back to see if I was satisfied with the work. I had used this company 6 years ago and had a very positive experience, so was extremely disappointed they no longer meet my expectations.

Very happy with work. But most impressed that the estimate was a few hundred dollars more... but he only charged actual. Some companies would try to hit the estimate.

We called to see if a window could be repaired. At first we were told it could be fixed for approx. $350. After looking at it more closely , they said it needed to be replaced and that they would check into the cost of replacement.We were called back within a couple of hours and told that it would cost $1650. This was a better price than other estimates so we said we would like to go with them. They said they would call the next day (Friday) with a time when they could come measure the window. Never called. We called Monday. They said they would come over Tuesday at 6 p.m. It is now Tuesday, 7:20 p.m. No call, no show.

We had a ceiling fan that did not work and also had an area of dry wall that needed patching. I called and was able to get on the schedule the same day. Brian was prompt, courteous and professional and was able to make all necessary repairs in less than 2 hours. I will definitely use them again.

I called four handymen services. Mr. Handyman was the only one with an office staff to take my call. Since they could schedule when I telephoned, they got the job. We discussed the projects and I was told an approximate length of time. I was also told that the floor project could be minutes or could be hours due to the nature of the Pergo floor product. I was also informed that there were no subcontractors and each employee was bonded and insured. Further, we were able to schedule to do the work the next day. Brett was late, but the office called and informed me of the late arrival and the revised approximate arrival time. I appreciated that call. Since the start time was in the middle of rush hour, traffic happens. Once he arrived, Brett covered the costs again and looked at my list of items. He then got right to work and did not stop or waste time. Two of the projects (attach loose duct, fix kitchen cabinet took hardly a half hour). On the floor issue, he discussed the issues with the flooring and what could be done. He then fixed the one floor issue and explained what would need to be done if the panels needed to be replaced in the future. For the second floor issue, Brett explained that either the floor would have to be removed going back to the wall. Or, in a simpler manuever, how to work the gap so that it would be under the fridge. He seemed to have both goals: repair and the budget in mind. He finished in the time expected, collected his paperwork and was gone. Mr. Handyman will be the first call next time.

Mr. Handyman works with a different type of quote process. You can send pictures and a description of what you want done and they will get back to you the next day with an estimate. This saved so much time since we didn't have to wait for someone to come out and get back to us. This also allowed them to schedule the work to be done the next business day. Our handyman was early for the job, the company did call first to make sure he could come early. He then went over what we needed for the job and left for a while to get materials from the closest store. This does count as part of your hourly rate. I thought our handyman was gone for a long time, but when he came back he said he would take a half hour off the bill because he waited a long time at the paint counter and we shouldn't have to pay for that. His work from the time he got back was extremely professional. He protected our furniture and took his time to make sure the final product looked the best it could look. He worked hard but took the time to answer questions and make sure that we were happy with the final result.

They did a good job and I was pleased with the work they did.

They were excellent. They were polite, responsive, and punctual. He was friendly and did a good job. He was quick at the service.

It was an easy plesant transaction. It was easy to schedule. The handyman (Brian) was punctual, courteous, neat and did nice work.

Jerry went well beyond the minimum necessary for this job. We would definitely recommend him and Mr. Handyman to anyone.

Terry was very professional, kept the living room pretty much dust free by taping plastic wrap around the immediate work area. I am very pleased with the finished ceiling!

At around 2:30 on the day I'd scheduled the bid, I received a voicemail from the Mr. Handyman office confirming the appointment. That was great, except when I called back to confirm that it was going to be at 4:30 as we'd planned, he said no, it would be 5:30. This was inconvenient, as I don't yet live in the house where the work is to be done, but because I did not recall whether I'd mentioned that to them, I accepted the delay without comment. 5:30 came and went, and at 6:40 I finally decided to leave. Around 6:45, the contractor who was supposed to come out and look at the house called me. Without apologizing, he said he knew that he was really late, and asked if he could still come over. I said no, since I'd already left. Again without apology, he said 'ok, maybe the office will reschedule you,' and that was that. There was never any follow-up from the office of Mr. Handyman to acknowledge or apologize for the missed appointment, which I found highly unprofessional, and consider to be poor customer service. I never called them back to find out what happened, but I don't feel that I should have had to chase them down, considering it was an error on their end. Perhaps they are high volume enough not to have wanted my business. Mistakes and miscommunications happen, and I understand that, but it is how they are handled afterward that sets apart the professionals. Because of this experience, I absolutely would not call Mr. Handyman again.
