I was very impressed with Gene from Metro. He was professional, diagnosed issues, did quick repairs and significantly improved the performance of my garage door and opener. Price was reasonable and on a par with other firms. Based on this experience, I trust them and would use them again.

We needed a new garage door and the salesperson who came out was very knowledgeable and helpful. When it came time for the installation, they didn't show up the first time, then the second time were going to be a couple hours late but didn't call. I understand things come up - but this company does not do a good job of communication. The owner didn't care. Roll the dice and hire them and hope there's no issues, because they are not going to communicate with you if there are. Never been so frustrated with a company doing work on the house.

Response from Metro Garage Door Co
Thank you for your feedback about your experience with your new garage door installation January 27, 2017. I am sorry that you felt that we didn't meet you expectations for the timing and communication. Upon reviewing our records, you ordered your new door on 12/29/16 and we received your custom door from the manufacturer 1/23/17. We called to schedule your door installation that day but determined we would have to reschedule the installation to the 27th because of the weather conditions. Our technician arrived at your home 1/27/17 approximately between 8 and 9am to install your new door. He completed the installation by 3pm that day. This installation went smoothly and given the weather interruption which is often time a factor for doing this work in the winter season, we always make our best effort to get the work done as scheduled and in short order. I am confused about your comment about "The owner didn't care" since we didn't talk about your concerns and you didn't use our customer survey card to communicate your issues. If you had I am sure it would have been clear that I do care about every customer's questions and comments. I am sorry that we didn't meet your expectations for communications in coordinating your door installation. We thank you for your business and we hope that you enjoy many years of good use and enjoyment with your new garage door and opener. Sincerely, Doug Robinson President Metro Garage Door Co.

Metro Garage has been out 3 times to fix the same problem and have never asked for another penny. The problem is a result of a sticky door because my painters did a poor job of keeping paint off the garage seal...nothing because of Metro Garage, but Metro Garage has repeatedly come back to fix the cable. Randy was very helpful. I would definitely have them out again. Ask for Randy.

They did $225 in repairs but left the door inoperable. This was not communicated to me by the service technician and it took 2 days to figure out why they left the door inoperable. The reason for not leaving a door that functioned was that it did not comply with a 1992 law even though the home was built in 2004. It would have been nice if they would have communicated any issues when they called and told me they did $225 in repairs. My tenant did disengage the opener when it became inoperable and that may solve my problem, but the communication was poor and I didn't contact them to replace parts. I contacted them to solve my issue or give guidance on what it would take to solve my issue.
Description of Work: The cable broke and they came out the day I contacted them. I just needed an operable garage door.

A couple days after they did the cable replacement and tune up, we started having a new issue where the garage door would only close part way and would then go back up. We had not experienced this prior to their visit. I saw at the bottom of my receipt from Metro: "Service warranted for 30 days from the date of this receipt." So I called to see if they could come back and see what was going on. I have used several companies on Angie's list in the last few years, and they've all provided great customer service. Seeing that these guys had an "A" rating, I assumed they would just come back out and look at my garage since I was within 30 days - no problem, no questions asked. I also assumed since they worked on my garage door, did a tune up, and offered a warranty, that if anything was suddenly wrong a couple days after they did the work, that it would likely be fixed without issue (or at least if it were something major and not caused by the work they did, my options would be graciously explained to me). Boy was I mistaken! When I called, the woman who answers the phone curtly told me that there would be a charge for technicians to come out and look at it (even though I was in the 30 days and had not had this problem prior to them messing with my garage door) AND she also sternly advised that if something was discovered to be wrong with my garage door/opener that was not SPECIFICALLY WITH THE CABLES THEY HAD JUST REPLACED, I would be charged full price for fixing whatever that was. I asked to speak to a manager since I felt I was at least owed a free visit for technicians to see if the work they did caused this new problem (since it was not happening prior to them coming the first time). I spoke to Bill, the manager. He reluctantly told me that he'd have the technicians come "out as a continuation of my previous order" and that way he would not have to charge me for the trip. But he did reiterate what the woman had said - if they find a problem that is not directly related to the cables they replaced, it was not warrantied. So the technicians came out today, looked at my garage door, and told me the problem is with my wiring/opener and nothing to do with the cables that had been replaced. I thanked them and then said I would hold off on having anything done today (since I was still feeling curious that this started after they'd done work on my garage, they were claiming it is unrelated, and frankly at this point I was not feeling great about giving Metro any more of my business). The technician then told me I owed him $70 for coming to my house. I told him I had spoken to Bill the previous day and that he'd said I wouldn't be charged for the visit. The technician then said "ok well then you owe $25." I again reiterated that I was told there would be no charge. He then made me sign a receipt on which he'd written "Refused to pay". After they left, I called and asked to speak to Bill again. I explained what had happened and my confusion as to why I was being told I owed money when he'd promised they'd come out free of charge. He then denied having ever told me there would be no charge. Bottom line: This company is out to make a buck, regardless of the customer experience. They don't think they need repeat business and I'm guessing don't think they need to stand by their work or give customers the benefit of the doubt because they have over 1,000 "A" ratings (but 45+ F ratings and climbing...). I'm sure they're probably ok to use if they happen to fix your issue right the first time and you never have to see them again but beware - if there is a problem they couldn't care less about you or your issue. The warranty is garbage. Use someone else. The sad thing is that if they would have done the warranty house call for free to stand by their work, treated me fairly, communicated well and politely and with any sort of compassion, I would have happily paid them for the parts and labor for the new repair and would have used them for years to come. This is not how you treat people if you ever want them to come back or say good things about you to the neighbors when their garage door breaks.
Description of Work: RUN, don't walk - BEWARE of using this company. They do not care about their customers, will nickel and dime you, and the warranty has so many loopholes it is non-existent. Here's what happened in my case. I just bought a home and a few weeks after moving in, the garage door came down crooked one day and would not open. I saw the sticker in the garage showing the previous homeowners had use Metro Garage and had the springs serviced in 2014, so I thought I'd just call the number and have them come out. They did come out on 6/21 on time and found the issue - a broken cable. They replaced both cables for $136 and did a "23 point tune up" that cost $41. Continued...

The garage door spring broke on a Friday night. The following morning I called a different business offering same day and weekend service and was told that they wouldn't be able to come out until the following Tuesday. I then contacted Metro Garage Door, and they were able to send somebody that same Saturday morning. The representative was able to replace the garage door spring and cables within 30 minutes. I tested the garage door and it worked perfectly. The service was reasonably priced and the representative was friendly and professional. I would recommend this company and will use them again in the future when garage door service is needed.

The doors work fine. The cost was above market, but we felt that was acceptable. Then we tried to program the in-car openers. To be specific, we have a 2010 Toyota and an older Infiniti. Neither is really an old car. I had told Kyle the year and model of both cars. He said he was sure both were ok. I should have asked what ok meant. It turns out that NEITHER car works with opener Kyle recommended (If he knew the unit wouldn't work, he should have either recommended and installed another unit or should have told me that I'd have to spend an additional $56 to make this one work.) I have to say calling Liftmaster confirmed within 3-4 minutes that NEITHER car would work. I called Liftmaster to get instructions and, learning that I needed the additional part, asked about the cost. Liftmaster said the list price (confirmed on the Liftmaster website) was $24.99. The operator suggested I go to Amazon for a better price (couldn't really get less than $25, but we can get free shipping.) Liftmaster also suggested I contact the company that installed the unit as they might have a better price. Clearly, Liftmaster has built into the cost to distributors enough cushion to be able to offer less than $24.99. Here's where things went south. I called Metro and asked why I wasn't told that an additional part would be required. I was told that it was too complex for them to know what cars need additional parts. When I suggested that it took only a few minutes to get that information from Liftmaster, the Service Manager said that was too long. It took Kyle most of the morning to do the door and opener install. To spend less than 5 more minutes to make sure I knew what I was buying should NOT have been a burden. That was just plain bad service. But it gets worse: when I talked to the Service Manager about buying the required part, he said he'd sell it for $56 if I picked it up at their Golden Valley office. Or I could pay to have it shipped. I asked why it cost $56. He said that was the list price. I pointed out that the Liftmaster website list price is $24.99. Instead of accepting that claiming the $56 price was a blatant lie, he said I could talk to the owner when he returned next week. He, the Service Manager, didn't set the prices. I can't wait to see how long it takes for the owner to get back to me. I'm now wondering whether Kyle unbalanced the lift spring to make the opener fail. It's easy enough to do. Of course I have no proof, because I didn't watch him work. I should have.
Description of Work: Our garage door was rusted / old and needed to be replaced. We called Metro because they had done work for us in our previous house and we felt it was good work. When the new door was installed, the existing opener only survived a very few test open/close cycles and burned out. We were still laboring under the assumption that Metro was doing the right thing and had them replace the opener with one the tech (Kyle) had in his truck. Both of our cars were parked in the driveway throughout the install and I told him exactly what make and model they were. We offered to pay him to program both the cars, but he declined supposedly for legal reasons saying he could only program the remotes. He indicated that programming the cars wouldn't be an issue and if he needed help Liftmaster would be able to provide step by step instructions. He also suggested looking at the Liftmaster website as they have good model-specific instructions.
