Plunkett's Pest Control

I called to find out about the cost of ant control at my house. I had spoke with other companies and I knew that it can be done without spraying poison inside my house. I have pets and spraying inside is unacceptable. The woman that answered the phone informed me that if they can't spray inside they might as well not even come out and I should just continue to use Terro poison products and hope for the best. She assured me that that was her best advice, so I hung up on her.

Unfortunately, they had to return several times before the rodent problem was eliminated but they were very responsive and thorough. They did not charge for the return visits and stayed in contact until they were sure the problem was resolved. Nice work!

I have signed up for 5 exterior treatments which will begin in May and run through September. I will do a follow up review as to whether I see some significant change and if this worked in the coming months.

We have had an ongoing problem with mice in our house. After two previous unsuccessful attempts with pest control companies, we were skeptical, but Plunkett's was highly recommended by a couple of friends. We have been pretty much mouse free since the first visit in mid-Nov 2014. We will not be able to do a complete exterior inspection until the snow is gone and the weather warms up, but Jeff (technician) did a thorough examination and made recommendations. It is a bit of a complex situation so we have signed a one year contract to continue Plunkett's services. We are serious about ending the mouse problem and so is Jeff! He is here weekly; checks all bait stations and traps and looks in the snow for foot prints of critters. He found two problem areas and immediately filled them with steel wool until we can replace one vent and fill a hole with concrete. His visits are ongoing until there is complete resolution. Jeff is a delight to work with; very personable, inquisitive, very knowledgeable, and has pride in his work and Plunkett's.

We had a large hornet nest on our house about the size of a football. A man from Plunkett's came the same day we called. He treated the nest waited a while and then knocked most of it down and treated it again. Hornets are dead.

Very friendly technicians, however they were unable to complete the job successfully by finding the entry points.

They never got rid of the mice. We are still taking mice out of traps. The last time they were out was just the last time of many times in 2 years we've had them out to get rid of the mice. The first year they placed a lot of traps, found and blocked up some holes. After paying them again to come out this year they just came out and re-inspected their work of the previous year and suggested WE find and block up holes. He suggested we should get a yearly contract. They made an effort the first year. After that, they seemed to have given up. The did respond very quickly, arrived on time. Their price went up 36% in one year.

Technician Adam was very chatty. I was ok with it. He showed me how to set the mouse traps and explained the entire process. We originally hired Plunketts to set traps and look for evidence of mice inside the house. We had already done that so Adam just looked for holes around the house. Cost us only $100 compared to the $400 quoted on the phone.

They do an excellent job. I've been using them for the last six to seven years. They train their men very well and they are very professional. They are very clean when they come in to your house to set the spider trap or whatever they have to do. They were courteous and they leave when they are done.

I have been a Plunkett's customer for 17 years now, and could not be happier with their service. This year has been a trying one, with ants and mice, and in both cases, I called and Ron came out that very same day. They spray 4 times a year, and more often if we need them. Having grown up in Hawaii, I have a real aversion to bugs - all kinds! - and Ron has always been patient and understanding, checking under the eaves for any nests, plugging in any holes where critters may enter, and checking out the formidable basement AND garage - each and every time. Ron is always on time, very responsive, and exceptionally helpful, and I highly recommend Plunkett's to anyone with or without a critter problem - Plunkett's will make sure it stays critter-free!!

Technician came promptly and was very courteous. Sound like he knew what he was doing. The technician informed us that since it was in the middle of the winter with snow around the house too high he could not thoroughly inspected the problem. He would have to come back when the snow was gone. We were not charged for the visit. Plunkett did comeback in spring, plugged up the holes they claimed where the mice came in, and that should fixed the problem. It did not completely fixed the problem. A year latter we had to have Terminex comiming to our house to take care of the issue. Terminex did stop the mice coming into our house. Plunket is expensive yet I question its effectiveness. I think it is well known in this area because it is well advertised on the radio.

We live rurally in the Quad Cities area, Port Byron, IL and we dealt with the Plunkett's Pest Control office in Davenport, Iowa. For many years we had pest control provided by Houghton Pest Control of Geneseo, IL. We were very happy with the service. In 2013 we received a letter from Houghton's explaining that they were going to retire and that their business had been purchased by Plunkett's Pest Control and there was a letter from Plunkett's telling about their experience and great service. We then continued our service with Plunkett's and a technician came to our home and sprayed the home for bugs. It appears that he did a decent job, or a job that was on the same level as Houghton's. Our daughter also continued her service and as she works we let the technician into her home so service was always provided on the same day. The first problem that occurred was that the technician called wanting to provide service the next day and was not happy when I told him that that would not work out, so a different day was scheduled. A second problem was that they did not assign the work to the same technician even though they were told that we wanted the service to continue as it had been and on the same day, but this wasn't followed and scheduling was a problem. My daughter did not receive service as she was not home when the technician wanted to come to her home. She then met with the technician and made arrangement for quarterly spraying but not inside the home so she wouldn't have to be there. She agreed to this and the price almost doubled with only the outside being sprayed. My wife and I were not paying attention and then realized that we had not had a technician in the home for quite a while. I phoned the office in Davenport today and told the lady that we had not received service and she told me that our service had been terminated in November 2013. I asked her who had terminated the service and what the reason for the termination was. She was unable to tell me who terminated the service and the reason why. She told me that she would have the service technician in our area call us. As I thought about it today I got more disgusted and decided to have another company provide our service. Neither my wife or I terminated the service so someone at Plunkett's must have, possibly the technician. We did not receive a notice of cancellation a call, email or letter from Plunkett's telling us the service was cancelled, asking us why or if we had cancelled it there was no contact at all. I do not believe that we were treated properly or professionally and decided to do business with a local company that has been serving the Quad City area for thirty years.

They've been very clear, giving us a timeline about when they're going to be out. Organized and what exactly they'll treating our house. Communication was good. His personality has a lot of talking and stuff. He's doing his job, so we were happy with that. I would use them again in the future.

The technician arrived on time, was very friendly, and took care of the issues with the bugs. He explained what services came with the yearly plan ("touch up" visits between the three seasonal sprays) and was cautious with spraying in the areas where my dogs spend the majority of the time.

It went well see how did the provider do?

We had an ant problem in the basement and were concerned that we might have carpenter ants. We needed an expert to come and look at our situation and determine how big of a problem we had and how best to treat it. The $50 to $60 was more money than we wanted to spend for a quick analysis, but they did offer to put the analysis cost toward the treatment cost if we decided to move forward with extermination services. The expert came right when they said they would. He was knowledgeable about what kind of ants we had. He informed me that we had pavement ants, and that the traps/bait that we were using was the right stuff to use. He informed me about what treatments they offered, but let me know that he did not think it was necessary at this time. His honesty saved me from spending money on treatments that were not really necessary

Seems like he was in a rush and did not want to perform thorough inspection. Seems like over pay for the service.

I pay by the year. They don’t charge for the extra. I like the company or I wouldn't keep using them. I was there when the guy came out. He is very personable. He goes down the basement and checks all the areas. He has been doing this in the house for a long time and pretty much knows where there are spiders. Then he goes outside. They do what they are supposed to do. Most of the time, it takes care of the problem. But this is a very old foundation, so there are some cracks and things are going to keep getting in depending on how the water table is. It doesn’t have anything to do with the company; it is just the way it is. With regard to price, prices could always be lower.

Bernie showed up on time at approximately 4:00 p.m. He was aware of what the appointment was for, and remembered coming this winter to spray for ants inside the house. I was babysitting my grandchildren this time, and he was very good with them, even explaining the life cycles of the ants to my curious grandson. He sprayed the outside of the house in about 20 minutes, and was ready to go. The call was 183.00, which I thought was a little high due to the fact that he only spent approximately 20 minutes at most spraying, another 10 with paperwork, and that was it. When he came in the winter we were having major problems with ants in my kitchen. He came right away, explained the problem, and what needed to be done, and sprayed. That visit cost $90.00. I just don't understand why the price was double for this visit. However, I did not question it either. All in all, it was a complete and professional job, and I will contact this company again if the need arises. I will request Bernie also, because I am familiar with him, and he is familiar with my household history (especially when it concerns carpenter ants.)

We were having major problems with ants in our house this winter! It was focused in the kitchen/dining room area, however they were seen in other areas on the first floor and in the basement. I called numerous Pest Control company's to ask why ants were in our house in the winter, and what could be done about it. Of the approximately 5 company's that I called, Plunkett's was the only one that seemed even remotely interested in doing the work. They explained that they could send someone out to spray, which would take care of the ant problem temporarily. However, they suggested that we have them come again in the spring to spray the perimeter of the house, and do a full inspection of the problem. I made the arrangements for the temporary spraying to get rid of the ants in the house. Bernie showed up on time, and looking and acting like a professional. He explained what was going on thoroughly and answered all of our questions. He advised us that the spray he was applying would be taken back to the nest by the ants and eventually they would be eliminated. He also answered all our questions regarding toxicity to humans, etc... He also advised a return appointment in the spring for a thorough inspection of the extent of the problem and spraying on the outside perimeter of the home. I called and made that appointment today, and specifically requested Bernie return as our Pest Control Professional. All in all, we are very satisfied with the service, price and professionalism of Plunketts (Brainerd, MN).

Initial phone contact was great and informative and courteous. The first visit was scheduled within 3 days. There was a window of time (3 hour) but the service provider was willing to call 30 min in advance, so we could leave work and meet him there. He came at the earliest part of that 3-hour window. The service technician was very professional, but friendly and informative.

They even went out of their way to inform us how we can attempt to prevent them on our own, which really impressed my wife. They are very professional and courteous.

We have had Plunketts for 2 years now. They come out in April, August & December & we pay them 1/3 of the 342.00, which includes tax, when they come out. If you have problems you can call them & they come out & take care of whatever the problem is. Originally we had an ant problem. Joe came out & sprayed inside & the outside foundation of the house. He also set ant traps inside which took care of the problem. We had a wasp nest, Joe came out & took care of that. He always sprays the outside of the house everytime he comes out whether there's an ant problem in the home or not. This month there was a mouse in the kitchen that totally had me screaming for my husband. First time in 43 years of living here that I had that problem. This was on a Saturday...I called Plunketts & they sent out Ron, who was covering the weekend shift. He set traps in different places to catch that unwanted guest. They are very thorough, professional, reasonably priced, not to mention very nice gentlemen & they get the job done. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

The technician arrived when he said he would, and in the middle of a tough conversation regarding my elderly mother's needs in her care center. He took care of business while I continued my phone call, came upstairs, and printed a report of what he'd found. Good news of much reduced mouse activity in both my lower level laundry room and a tuck under garage currently used for storage. I like to have a hard copy of the report,, which is left at each visit. I have had mouse activity for some time but the sudden increase was a call to action.
