Called to get a quote to have an ice dam removed. Their voice mail was full so I was unable to leave a message. Someone from the office called me back (from the caller Id on the phone). She was very helpful and told me that if I could send a picture of the ice they would be able to tell me if I needed to have someone come out and remove it. She also wanted to make sure that I knew the charge for their service is $675 per hour. I did not use them because of the cost.

I'm sorry {removed member name}, we did not know that you were an Angies List customer or you would have received our special Angies List rate. Clearly you called during our state of emergency week where we had to bring in technicians from out of state and other regions to help with the epic ice dam epidemic we experienced for a while. The additional cost of bringing those guys in always drives up the cost...but we always have a special rate for Angies list members. Please keep us in mind if you have need of our services next year and identify yourself as being an Angies list member, We'll get you scheduled quickly and you'll be able to experience first hand why so many others praise our services.

I called them at 6:40 AM and Josh arrived promptly at 9AM It took 2 and 1/2 hours to mediate the problem. It was pretty big. I thought the price was high, but the professional that came knew his business and was very efficient. He did not waste time and did a very good job. He also gave me some tips, like keeping the roof vents clear of snow, to help avoid the problem in the future.

I called at 10pm and Brad was on the job at 7:30 am the next day. Very pleasant person explained the fee and set up the date and time. Brad was knowledgeable and prepared. He explained what he was going to do and what we could do to prevent ice dams in the future. First shoveled snow from the roof about 6 feet up then started the steam machine. I cannot understand the complaints about the time this takes. You can only go as fast as the steam permits and the thickness of the ice slows the thawing process. Once he was on the roof he never came down until the job was finished. Also, I cannot understand the complaints about price. When you figure in the cost of the machine, truck, labor, insurance (I'm sure some have fallen off roofs) and travel time how can you compare this to attorneys fees. Brad did an excellent job. The Ice Dam Removal Guys company dealt with me honestly, fairly and ethically. I would definitely call them again.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive and thoughtful review [member name removed]. You are so right in saying that you can only go as fast as the steam and thickness of the ice allows. We understand that at ice dam removal rates it can be frustrating to tally the $$ as the job goes on. We're so glad you were pleased with Brad, he's an A+ guy and a great technician. It was good. They were very prompt and courteous. They did a good job. They did the service on the following week after I purchased the big deal. The price of such service is variable depending on the supply and demand. There were other places that had lesser prices and there were other places that had greater prices.

Thanks for the review [removed member name]. We often point out to people that we are certainly not the cheapest guys out there, nor are we the most expensive either...we're just the best. We know that's a pretty bold statement, but it is truly what we strive to be, and if you read the many many reviews like yours, other customers believe that too.

We raked the roof before he arrived and removed snow from around the outside faucet. He thawed the faucet and got it running. Although it was covered with a foam cover, it was still frozen a bit. He had all the equipment and got right to work. When they come out you do pay for set up and take down, so be prepared to add that time on to the cost. It took an hour longer than the two hour minimum because we had a lot of ice on the back of the house and in the gutters. John checked with me long before the initial two hours expired and gave me feedback on the options of continuing the work or stopping at 2 hours. We decided to add another hour of work and the result was well worth it. There was a lot of clean up involved after the work was completed at my house. The sidewalk under the gutters was covered with ice and water. We got out the pump and pumped the water away from the house before it could freeze and hauled big heavy blocks of ice from the sidewalk after John left. I should note that I called the office last evening after 8 pm and John was at my house at 8 am this morning. My roof is completely clear of ice dams and a lot of the snow. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone with ice build up and would call them again in the future.

Sorry to hear that you're so upset by our pricing. Carrying the "proper" insurance, staffing an abundance of well trained technicians, using the best customized equipment, and being able to respond "same or next-day" does come at a price. It's extremely expensive to do perform ice dam removal, both legally and properly. Be VERY leery of those who offer cheap lowball pricing! I wish you had hired us and witnessed firsthand how professional, punctual, and devoted to this line of work we are. We cannot be compared to, nor can we compete with the HUNDREDS of "companies" that have crawled out the weeds this year to prey on the misfortune of others. Our business is ice dam removal, it's all we do, and we're proud of the service we offer, the price at which we offer it, as well as the speed and professionalism we put into each and every project. We have 17-years of topnotch customer service under our belt and looking forward to 17 more. We certainly wish you the best and hope you'll have an "ice dam free" remainder of 2014.

Thanks a million for allowing the opportunity to resolve your dispute. Customer service is easy when all your customers are happy. But the true determining factor of great customer service is how you deal with a customer that is less than satisfied! We listened to you, understood your problem with what took place, and rectified it. Although our technician (Clayton) had the very best of intentions, his communication with you throughout the entire project was less than adequate. I'm glad you allowed us to the opportunity to help resolve your problem! Thanks for putting your trust in us two years in a row! ~ Ice Dam Guys

EXTREMELY WELL. A very good company and an amazingly friendly technician. I called at about 10 on a Monday morning and was immediately scheduled for 12-2 that same afternoon. Beau, the service tech, called and let me know he was about 45 minutes away. Beau could not have been any better. He was super friendly, very professional, completely honest and upfront. He told me the project would most likely take about 5-6 hours and he emphasized that was just a guess and it may take longer. He was very honest about the price, which was very appreciated by us. He always took off his shoes (which was unnecessary) and great about explaining the project and what needed to be done. He would call from the roof every few hours to give us an update and let us know how much longer it may take. The whole project went very well. He was so quiet, our 2 year old went to bed and Beau was working on the roof right above his bedroom. I can't say enough about how much I would recommend this company. When you call, ask for Beau to do the work for you, but I'm sure the rest of their people are just as great! The price, well...it's the laws of supply and demand. Yes it's expensive but it's a lot less expensive then having your walls flooded and dealing with an insurance claim and all the headaches associated with that mess.

What a tremendously thoughtful and informative review [member name removed], thank you! You touched on many outstanding points, and what it often boils down to for so many people is price and service. The price is what it is for a multitude of reasons; insurance, training, best equipment, well paid technicians who do a miserable job day in and day out, etc. However, as you experienced, we do our best to provide a level of service that most people are no longer accustomed to. Beau is an A+ guy and an outstanding technician, I know it will make his day to know how pleased you were with him. Thanks again [member name removed].

The initial phone call was great. The salesperson explained the process. They have a 2 hour minimum fee and once the 2 hours are up their crew is supposed to check in with you to see if you want them to continue at an additional hourly rate. It was expensive but I needed the job done. I explained that I just wanted the back of the house done because I had a huge dam on one end of the house that needed to go because I have had issues with that corner in the past. Two guys showed up to do the job and they were nice. I went outside about an hour or so into the job to check on them. Oddly enough they started on the end of the house that barely had any ice on it, instead of the end that very clearly needed the attention. In fairness, we didn't tell the on-site crew which end to start on when they got there but I mentioned a huge dam on one end of the house in my initial call. The 2 hour minimum time passed and no one came to ask me if I wanted them to continue. I waited a while longer and finally went outside to check on them. They had barely started on the end that was so horrible so I let them go for a bit longer. After checking on them yet again I asked how much more time they needed to finish and was told about another 45min-hour. Well, another hour wasn't in my budget so I needed them to stop as I was already at $887.50 and the problem I called about was barely touched. I bought an Angie's list discount coupon which gave me additional time for only $50. If it wasn't for that, my bill would have been over $1000.00 2 weeks later I found another company that advertises "no one pays more than $600". I called them and they finished the job and were just as nice. I asked them how much it would have been for my entire roof and it would have been less than what I paid the Ice Dam guys to do 1/4 of the roof. Though the Ice Dam guys were nice, they are no longer on my call list strictly because of price and lack of follow through after the 2 hour minimum.

In spite of my ongoing efforts to shovel snow from my roof throughout this snow season, I still got those darn ice dams. Garrett did a great job for which I am appreciative, but I am absolutely shocked by the price, even with the Angie's List discount. Seriously? $375 per hour? With a two hour minimum? Apparently, I'm working in the wrong field. My lawyer, my doctor, even my kid's neurosurgeon don't make that much, so what's up with that? I know that insurance must be high for the work they do and of course, once you have a leak you are totally at their mercy. But $375 per hour for one person is plain and simple: highway robbery. Would I use them in a pinch (which I was)? Yes, but begrudgingly. Your experience may vary.

Although we can certainly appreciate your frustration with the cost associated with having ice dams removed, it is priced that way for a multitude of reasons. You have already mentioned the insurance cost, additionally, the technicians are paid well and have the latest custom made equipment. Doctors, Lawyers and such are able to practice their trade 12 months out of the year and do not do their work in sub freezing temperatures, standing on an icy roof with the wind blowing in their faces and steam freezing to every part of their clothing and exposed flesh. It is a miserable and dangerous job to say the least. Add to that the fact that to be able to provide same day next day service we need to have our technicians "on call" 7 days a week. We do provide exceptional service and we're glad you were happy with your technician and the work he performed in the end.

1.5 story home. Roof low and shallow enough not to need to rope up. Using 2-3 guys, spend 4 hours using shovels and steam, removed dams. Came the day I called. Gave me hourly rate on phone ($155) and gave hour estimate when arrived (4 hours). I requested working no longer than that. They works solidly for the 4 hours - easy to hear them working! They went over be a few minutes and charged me for the 4 hours.

Hello [member name removed], It appears you must have mistaken our company for someone else. The prices and amount of crew members you mentioned in your review make it impossible that we were the company you hired. For those prices (and amount of guys) I would be "extremely" worried that they were properly insured. Hopefully all went well and no one was injured on your property, and no damage was done to your rooftop.

I called the Ice Dam Guys due to concerns about the weight of the snow on a flat roof and incipient ice dams. The office called back immediately and set up an appointment for later that same day as I requested. The technician, Jon Hallaran, came promptly as scheduled, removed all the snow and cleared the area so that the threat was removed and dealt with the ice dams. He provided excellent, attentive service.

An ice dam was creating a leak through my kitchen ceiling. I called and they arrived within an hour and 15 minutes, much sooner than I thought they would be able to do durning this busy season. Although he could have spent the whole day on my roof, he respected my wishes for limiting the time to the two hour window I requested and didn't press for further services. He was able to remove more than anticipated during the two hours and the leak stopped while he was working. As with most any ice removal service, the fees are anything but cheap, but I figure due to the quick response time, they saved further costly damage to my home. The service man was professional and courteous and I would recommend them to neighbors.

Even though their voice mail box was full they still called me back right away. Considering they were the only company I could get to return my calls, this was a big plus in my book. They came out right away the next morning and were on time. The work was done professionally and in a timely manner. I was a little surprised they didn't rake the snow off other areas off the roof, but only where the ice dam was. The price was a bit outrageous in my book, but with such high demand who can blame them. Overall a good experience.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a typical or usual ice dam, and what may appear to be minimal from the edge of the roof often turns out to be more than expected. Ice dam by nature grow underneath the snow and crawl up the roof line, so an ice dam that may be only 3-4 inches thick on the edge may indeed go back 6-8 feet or more, which was quite common this year. Ice dams that go that far up the roof do take considerable longer to remove. We're really sorry you were not satisfied with the service, as we always strive to exceed our customers expectations.

Mike S. was great and very helpful in resolving our problem. When you have water pouring in despite having diligently raked with each snowfall, you know it's a bad year. Our problem stemmed from a shed dormer that couldn't be reached easily from the ground. The price is substantial but the local demand was high due to the weather and this season's accumulation. Mike mentioned they had received 2000+ calls the previous weekend. An Angie's List membership provided a substantial hourly discount and a coupon on top to ease the financial hurt a bit. 5 stars for the service, 4 stars for the price.

[removed member name] We are small company of about 25 people and currently receiving several hundred phone calls and emails per day. We simply cannot even come close to keeping up with the demand (not even close!). Our website and email server has crashed several times due to the enormous amount of traffic at one time over the past week. We're doing our very best. Please understand. I myself have been up for just over 48-hours straight trying to stay a float and return "every" email that has been sent through the Angie's List website. I built this business on superb customer service and it saddens me greatly that I'm not be able to provide the high-level of service that people have grow to expect from me/us (i.e., prompt replies to every email and phone call, etc.). I/We sure apologize and hope you'll understand that we simply cannot take on any more work at this time. It's not humanly possible for "any" company to keep up with this type of volume. Understand that if we clear the mailbox, it will fill up in a matter of an hour or less. We were forced to make a choice. Do we leave the mailbox full so that potential customers can't leave a message and will hopefully try us back. Or do we continually clear the voicemails knowing full-well that we'll never be able to return (or even listen to) even a fraction of the messages. I would be very angry if I left someone a message and they didn't even have the common courtesy to return my call. By leaving the voicemail full we hoped people would just understand that we were buried in calls and simply could not keep up with the demand. I hope you'll consider removing this review. We meant no disrespect - we are simply struggling to serve as many people as possible. I am sending this email to you at 3:30AM and I've been up for nearly 48 hours straight. We care DEEPLY about Angie's List members and your F-rating hurts our overall score substantially. Please forgive us - we're doing everything humanly possible. P.S. We have asked Angie's List to pause our profile on several occasions (to avoid reviews such as yours) but apparently pausing out profile is not an option (which puzzles me). Thank you so much for your understanding Helen. Joe Palumbo Owner Ice Dam Guys

With last week's warm up, I found leaking in our kitchen and spots on our bedroom ceiling. I contacted IDR Guys via email. Due to the influx of calls they received, I did not receive a call back right away. This was fine because it gave me a chance to clarify with our insurance company what steps we needed to take. When I was given the all clear to proceed from them, I called back and spoke to Jay. He was very apologetic, looked up my email and assured me that he would have someone here the next day. That, of course, was the day of our most recent snowstorm. When nobody showed, I didn't think very much of it because I assumed it was due to the weather. I called Jay back and he apologized profusely and admitted that there was miscommunication on their end. He assured me that someone would be here the next morning. The next day, Mike showed up around 8:30 despite black on the traffic maps and was eager to start working. Unfortunately, his ladder was not tall enough for our 2 + story house. I had told them it was a two story house when, in reality, our basement ceilings make it a bit taller. He assured me that someone would be back. At 5:30 on Friday night with an insane amount of snow, ice and wind, Tony showed up and got to work. He explained exactly what he would do, how long it would take, explained the two hour minimum and stated what he would do if he finished the target area early so that we could maximize his time up there. Two hours later, Tony described what he did, what he found, why we had leaking, the concerns with our house and what to do if we had more issues. He was friendly, informative and even reminded me about an Angie's List coupon that we could use! In the end, I was so impressed by IDR Guys professionalism, their commitment to working in spite of the elements and their desire to please their customers as thoroughly and quickly as possible. Despite the little bumps we had along the way, I would highly recommend them without reservation!!!

Once in a while we do run in to the little "bumps" in the road, thanks for your patience while we got another technician out there. Glad Tony mentioned the Angie's List coupon to you, we want you to receive all the benefits you are entitled to. Thanks for taking the time to write a thoughtful review!

I called early one morning after being awoken by popping and cracking noises coming from the roof the night before. They said they could come out right away. It was a snowy/subzero day and the guy they were sending out did not arrive when the said he would. I called, they apologized and called the guy. Apparently, the equipment froze up when he tested it and so it took him some time to get it. working. He forgot to call to let the scheduler/owner know. Not a big deal, as I was really happy they could do the work the same day. They charge $375/hour and state this up front along with the fact that all jobs take at least 2 hours. Once the guy arrived and got to work, it was a total of three hours, at which point I stopped him as the cost was pretty steep. However, I was willing to pay for peace of mind that the roof wasn't going to cave in and the ceiling upstairs follow. The first 20-30 minutes was his inspection of the roof, which included him taking pictures and explaining how he would interpret what he saw. It appeared to him that there were a few spots where the roof had little insulation and this was causing most of the melting issues. He was nice to explain how to address these issues so I wouldn't have ice dams in the future. Then he returned to the roof to begin steaming off the ice dams. I did stop him at the 3 hour mark because I couldn't afford any more of his time. Unfortunately, the ice dams at the back of the house were not yet removed completely. He said it would take about another 30-45 minutes to remove them as they were very thick. I had to pass on completing the job. They were all really nice but I don't think I can afford to do this again or may seek another Angie's List provider that has a lower hourly rate. I did ask the guy if he could email me the photos he took so that I would know which areas were the trouble spots, so I could address them. He said he would but I have never received them. I also haven't followed up to ask for them again. Overall, the work was done well. The company responds quickly and provides good information. My only con is the price. It really isn't affordable for me.

Ice dam removal costs what it does for a multitude of reasons, some of which are cost of being properly insured, latest custom equipment, etc., not to mention the pay for highly trained technicians working in a very dangerous and miserable environment. Also, sometimes the sub-zero temps do throw us a curve ball with equipment issues. We appreciate you patience as we worked through those issues. Glad you were pleased with our service once on site as we really strive to provide the best service possible. Thanks for the review:)

Very well. No complaints. Brett was very professional. He got wet. Luckily for him, it was sleeting, and not below zero.
Description of Work: Brett showed up. Explained what he was going to do, and did it. Professionally and thorough. Mention Angie's List and get 100 dollars taken off the hourly rate. 475 down to 375. Then show them the coupon and get an additional 75 off of the total. Used steam. The last people who removed an ice dam used hammers and chisels. Left divits in my roof.

Thanks for the review. Unfortunately we often hear of people who used companies that do not use steam, generally they are cheaper...but the damage left is far more costly than the money saved. We ALWAYS want our customers to benefit from the promotions we have available to them, so glad Brad made you aware of them.

Tom Isaacs did the work on our roof. He was very professional and a pleasure to work with. Tom gave me an estimate before doing the work and then came in under the estimate. Tom removed the ice without hurting the shingles and/or the gutters. A very nice job.

Thanks for the review! [Member name removed] is a great guy and we sure appreciate you commenting on his service. We ALWAYS do our best to get things taken care of as quickly and thoroughly as possible, even though estimates are sketchy to give as ice is a peculiar formation and tough to judge.

Thank you so much for your straight-A rating. We work so hard to exceed expectations (especially Angie's List members) 7-days a week, 16 hours a day, that seeing a straight-A rating is extremely rewarding! More than you know! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us (and others). It is truly appreciated!
