They did a fine job, were curteous and informative. My only complaint was the price. Very High.
Response from Ice Dam Guys
"Thanks for taking the time to leave a review (Remove member name). Ice dam removal is expensive for a multitude of reasons, insurance costs, techs are paid quite well due to the dangerous and miserable conditions of their job, high end equipment, etc. We pride ourselves on being the VERY best in the business, and keeping that high level of customer service is sometimes costly. We are however sensitive to the fact that this is not a cheap problem to take care of and work diligently to get it taken care of as quickly as possible. Have a great summer!"

I've never had an ice dam removed, and was really surprised at the cost!  However, the technician worked as rapidly as possible, and discussed with me several options that managed the overall project cost.  He didn't damage fencing, bushes etc. that were directly under the roof and overall did a great job.
Response from Ice Dam Guys
"Thanks for the review (member name removed). Certainly the cost of ice dam removal at the level of service we provide is not cheap. Glad you had a great experience with our professional technician. We always do our best to exceed our customers expectations"

Found water dripping in living room. Called immediately. They came later that day and spent five hours removing the packed ice and snow. Subsequently I realized I'd neglected to mention the $75 coupon offer and they gladly refunded that amount. As we didn't shop around I am not able to comment on price, but it seemed fair and their responsiveness and thoroughness were well worth the cost. Very satisfied with service.

"Hello [member name removed], Based upon the information you submitted, I believe you have the wrong company. I searched our entire database for your last name, then your address, and then finally as a last resort I looked at each and every job on March 3rd and there were no jobs with that dollar amount due. Please kindly remove this review as it hurts our overall grade with Angie's List (one we've worked very hard for). If the data you entered is inaccurate, and you're sure that we provide you service, please call us in the office so that we may rectify any problem that you may of had. Customer service truly means the world to us, and we will stop at nothing to ensure our customers expectations were exceeded!"

The Ice Dam Removal Guys were not able to respond on my short timeline, but I paid $50 to Angies List for a $50 off coupon?  This seems strange -- not $50 off at all, just a prepayment, and no information about how to get a refund?  Where did the $50 go?  I'm hoping The Ice Dam Removal Guys have a good relationship with Angies List.

Response from Ice Dam Guys
"We sure are sorry that we were not able to service you within your short timeline. I was the busiest ice dam year in our 18 year history and we simply could not get to everyone. Just to clarify, the $50 purchase you made is indeed a coupon...as it is redeemable for $100 of service. Also, the money paid does not come directly to us, but to Angies List. If you contact them regarding this situation they will be happy to refund your purchase. If you happen to need services like ours in the future I hope you give us an opportunity to show you why we are rated so high. Have a GREAT summer!!"

I live out of state and have renters in my home.  I hadn't been sure if it was a plumbing issue or an ice dam but I knew I had to take action. I called the Ice Dam Removal Guys because they were the only company on Angie's list with an A rating in this area. There was no answer when I called and the voicemail box was full - sigh...  Fortunately, I received a call back immediately.  The initial price quote was higher than I anticipated (and higher than the rate reported in some of the reviews).  Apparently the price had gone up because this was such a bad year for ice dams - there was a high demand and they had to call in extra help...  When I mentioned that it was not the price I had seen on Angie's list, the gentleman on the phone (I apologize I cannot recall his name) matched the price I had seen in recent reviews.  Wow!  This was totally unexpected and appreciated.  I was told that they love their Angie's list clients and want to keep us happy. :) Within 2-3 hours, Patrick was on-site to evaluate the situation.  He confirmed that there was a lot of ice built up and that the issue was the result of an ice dam.  He clearly outlined the scope of the proposed work, offered options, and got promptly to work.  The work was completed in a timely manner and came in a little less than I was dreading (no one wants to spend this money).  Patrick was a great sport and waited for me to find a patient on the street to return the walker they had left in my clinic.  After patiently waiting, he walked me through the easy online payment process. Overall, the Ice Dam Guys made an undesirable situation much more tolerable.  I especially appreciate the piece of mind I had - knowing that they were so highly rated - given I was trying to manage the situation from Arizona.  Thank you to both gentlemen who helped me that day!

We set up a date and time and they were there to do the job.  It took 5 hours to get all of the ice dams off but it was done professionally and efficiently.  The cost was not a shock because they quoted me the hourly rate.  I know it is hard work and all but I think the pricing is a little high. I was totally satisfied with the work that they performed and would recommend them to others with the note that it is a pricey job.

The technician while very nice arrived late and took one hour to set up.  He worked for around one half hour and then steamer machine stopped working.  The technician spent the next 45 minutes working on the machine.  Once he got it working again he did a great job
Response from Ice Dam Guys
"We sure are sorry that your technician was late, we do strive to be punctual but sometimes the Minnesota winter traffic doesn't cooperate. Likewise we occasionally have some machine issues in the cold, but you are not charged for mechanical down time. Glad you were pleased with the service once the issues were resolved. Thanks for taking the time to write a review!"

I called them at 6:40 AM and Josh arrived promptly at 9AM   It took 2 and 1/2 hours to mediate the problem.  It was pretty big.  I thought the price was high, but the professional that came knew his business and was very efficient.  He did not waste time and did a very good job.  He also gave me some tips, like keeping the roof vents clear of snow, to help avoid the problem in the future.

Response from Ice Dam Guys
"Thank you for taking the time to write a quick review about your experience with the ice dam guys. Josh is a great tech and he'll be glad to know you were pleased with him. We know this service is not cheap so do our best to "get right to it" and not waste any time, thanks for noticing Lisa!"

I called at 10pm and Brad was on the job at 7:30 am the next day. Very pleasant person explained the fee and set up the date and time.
Brad was knowledgeable and prepared. He explained what he was going to do and what we could do to prevent ice dams in the future. First shoveled snow from the roof about 6 feet up then started the steam machine. I cannot  understand the complaints about  the time this takes. You can only go as fast as the steam permits and the thickness of the ice slows the thawing process. Once he was on the roof he never came down until the job was finished. Also, I cannot understand the complaints about price. When you figure in the cost of the machine, truck, labor, insurance (I'm sure some have fallen off roofs) and travel time how can you compare this to attorneys fees.
Brad did an excellent job.
The Ice Dam Removal Guys company dealt with me honestly, fairly and ethically. I would definitely call them again.
Response from Ice Dam Guys
"Thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive and thoughtful review [member name removed]. You are so right in saying that you can only go as fast as the steam and thickness of the ice allows. We understand that at ice dam removal rates it can be frustrating to tally the $$ as the job goes on. We're so glad you were pleased with Brad, he's an A+ guy and a great technician. Thanks again [member name removed]!"

It was good. They were very prompt and courteous. They did a good job. They did the service on the following week after I purchased the big deal. The price of such service is variable depending on the supply and demand. There were other places that had lesser prices and there were other places that had greater prices.
Response from Ice Dam Guys
"Thanks for the review [removed member name]. We often point out to people that we are certainly not the cheapest guys out there, nor are we the most expensive either...we're just the best. We know that's a pretty bold statement, but it is truly what we strive to be, and if you read the many many reviews like yours, other customers believe that too."

In spite of my ongoing efforts to shovel snow from my roof throughout this snow season, I still got those darn ice dams. Garrett did a great job for which I am appreciative, but I am absolutely shocked by the price, even with the Angie's List discount. Seriously? $375 per hour? With a two hour minimum? Apparently, I'm working in the wrong field. My lawyer, my doctor, even my kid's neurosurgeon don't make that much, so what's up with that? I know that insurance must be high for the work they do and of course, once you have a leak you are totally at their mercy. But $375 per hour for one person is plain and simple: highway robbery. Would I use them in a pinch (which I was)? Yes, but begrudgingly. Your experience may vary.
Response from Ice Dam Guys
"Although we can certainly appreciate your frustration with the cost associated with having ice dams removed, it is priced that way for a multitude of reasons. You have already mentioned the insurance cost, additionally, the technicians are paid well and have the latest custom made equipment. Doctors, Lawyers and such are able to practice their trade 12 months out of the year and do not do their work in sub freezing temperatures, standing on an icy roof with the wind blowing in their faces and steam freezing to every part of their clothing and exposed flesh. It is a miserable and dangerous job to say the least. Add to that the fact that to be able to provide same day next day service we need to have our technicians "on call" 7 days a week. We do provide exceptional service and we're glad you were happy with your technician and the work he performed in the end."

We raked the roof before he arrived and removed snow from around the outside faucet. He thawed the faucet and got it running.
Although it was covered with a foam cover, it was still frozen a bit. He had all the equipment and got right to work. When they come out you do pay for set up and take down, so be prepared to add that time on to the cost. It took an hour longer than the two hour minimum because we had a lot of ice on the back of the house and in the gutters. John checked with me long before the initial two hours expired and gave me feedback on the options of continuing the work or stopping at 2 hours. We decided to add another hour of work and the result was well worth it.
There was a lot of clean up involved after the work was completed at my house. The sidewalk under the gutters was covered with ice and water. We got out the pump and pumped the water away from the house before it could freeze and hauled big heavy blocks of ice from the sidewalk after John left.
I should note that I called the office last evening after 8 pm and John was at my house at 8 am this morning. My roof is completely clear of ice dams and a lot of the snow. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone with ice build up and would call them again in the future.

"Thank you for such a complete and thoughtful review [Member name removed]. The service you received is standard fare for us here at The Ice Dam Guys. Prompt service, good communication so there are no surprises, and a knowledgeable and caring technician. Of course John would have been happy to help you move the additional snow, water and ice from the ground around your home, but at ice dam removal prices many people like yourselves opt to to it on here own. Thanks again [Member name removed]!!"

Update:  The ice dam guys have resolved our issue to our satisfaction which I feel is fair to my mother and the ice dam guys.  I feel confident to use them again, so although I was disappointed with the service listed above I would try them again due to the quick resolve and professionalism by their management.

"Thanks a million for allowing the opportunity to resolve your dispute. Customer service is easy when all your customers are happy. But the true determining factor of great customer service is how you deal with a customer that is less than satisfied! We listened to you, understood your problem with what took place, and rectified it. Although our technician (Clayton) had the very best of intentions, his communication with you throughout the entire project was less than adequate. I'm glad you allowed us to the opportunity to help resolve your problem! Thanks for putting your trust in us two years in a row! ~ Ice Dam Guys"

EXTREMELY WELL. A very good company and an amazingly friendly technician. I called at about 10 on a Monday morning and was immediately scheduled for 12-2 that same afternoon. Beau, the service tech, called and let me know he was about 45 minutes away. Beau could not have been any better. He was super friendly, very professional, completely honest and upfront. He told me the project would most likely take about 5-6 hours and he emphasized that was just a guess and it may take longer. He was very honest about the price, which was very appreciated by us. He always took off his shoes (which was unnecessary) and great about explaining the project and what needed to be done. He would call from the roof every few hours to give us an update and let us know how much longer it may take. The whole project went very well. He was so quiet, our 2 year old went to bed and Beau was working on the roof right above his bedroom. I can't say enough about how much I would recommend this company. When you call, ask for Beau to do the work for you, but I'm sure the rest of their people are just as great!
The price, well...it's the laws of supply and demand. Yes it's expensive but it's a lot less expensive then having your walls flooded and dealing with an insurance claim and all the headaches associated with that mess.
Response from Ice Dam Guys
"What a tremendously thoughtful and informative review [member name removed], thank you! You touched on many outstanding points, and what it often boils down to for so many people is price and service. The price is what it is for a multitude of reasons; insurance, training, best equipment, well paid technicians who do a miserable job day in and day out, etc. However, as you experienced, we do our best to provide a level of service that most people are no longer accustomed to. Beau is an A+ guy and an outstanding technician, I know it will make his day to know how pleased you were with him. Thanks again [member name removed]."

The initial phone call was great. The salesperson explained the process. They have a 2 hour minimum fee and once the 2 hours are up their crew is supposed to check in with you to see if you want them to continue at an additional hourly rate. It was expensive but I needed the job done. I explained that I just wanted the back of the house done because I had a huge dam on one end of the house that needed to go because I have had issues with that corner in the past. Two guys showed up to do the job and they were nice. I went outside about an hour or so into the job to check on them. Oddly enough they started on the end of the house that barely had any ice on it, instead of the end that very clearly needed the attention. In fairness, we didn't tell the on-site crew which end to start on when they got there but I mentioned a huge dam on one end of the house in my initial call. The 2 hour minimum time passed and no one came to ask me if I wanted them to continue. I waited a while longer and finally went outside to check on them. They had barely started on the end that was so horrible so I let them go for a bit longer. After checking on them yet again I asked how much more time they needed to finish and was told about another 45min-hour. Well, another hour wasn't in my budget so I needed them to stop as I was already at $887.50 and the problem I called about was barely touched. I bought an Angie's list discount coupon which gave me additional time for only $50. If it wasn't for that, my bill would have been over $1000.00 2 weeks later I found another company that advertises "no one pays more than $600". I called them and they finished the job and were just as nice. I asked them how much it would have been for my entire roof and it would have been less than what I paid the Ice Dam guys to do 1/4 of the roof. Though the Ice Dam guys were nice, they are no longer on my call list strictly because of price and lack of follow through after the 2 hour minimum.
