+ -1 moreOriginally had planned to buy from Home Depot but they wouldn't install over 9" basement tile because of asbestos issues and advised us to get it remediated (which would have cost about $3000). We did a lot of research and confirmed that the asbestos was not a problem unless you disturb it. Dick confirmed our findings and was willing to install over the tile. The carpet looks wonderful, the padding is 1/2" which gives it a soft, luxurious feel. We were very pleased with the quality of the product and with his work and we will be calling him for our next project.
Description of Work: Dick came and brought samples, did an estimate, and then returned with the carpet and installed in in three basement rooms and a stairway.

+ 0 moreIt was a great experience. I had never had any carpet purchases previously, so we decided to go Home Depot. They gave us an estimate, but it turns out they don't install over asbestos tiling that is on basement floors. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I found Dick's on Angieslist and he and his wife run a top notch business. She took down my information when I called and he called me back within the hour. He came later that afternoon to give us an estimate. The next day we went and chose out the carpet we liked at the distributor that Dick works with. They had it in stock so we had it installed the next week when Dick had an open time. He guarantees his work and will come out and do restretching if needed. Overall, Dick saved us $400 by going with him instead of Home Depot. I highly recommend his work and am grateful that I ended up finding him on here.
Description of Work: Dick installed the carpet for the stairs leading down to the basement, the basement floor and the bedroom in the basement. We had a somewhat large area (59 yards) that was installed. He showed up around 10am and installed the new carpet we had chosen from his distributor he uses (a huge selection to choose from). He is extremely knowledgable and did a very good job.

+ -1 moreVery good experience. Quality work, very nice guy. "Old fashioned" customer service. I think he would be pretty ethical with his dealings. His wife takes his calls, no computer access, etc.
Description of Work: Our carpet was torn up by a puppy we were dog sitting. She found a small spot on a seam and ripped up a portion approximately 3" by 8". I called Dick's Carpet Service and talked to his wife who asked what needed to be done, etc. and said Dick could go it and that he would call back, but it would be in the evening. Dick called that night approximately 9:30 and said he could do the work the next day and that he had another job in the morning, but thought he could get to our house in the afternoon. He did say that he couldn't give a definite time since he had not seen the morning job, but he estimated it would only take the morning. I told him that if it couldn't be finished by 4pm, we would have to do it another time and he thanked me for being flexible. He also told me that he couldn't give a price until he saw it because he "didn't want to give me a price and then hit me with way more." Dick called about 1pm the next day and said he was on his way, but he was completely across town. He arrived 1 hr later, looked over the damage and gave me a price. He completed the work in 2 hours. I think it took a little longer than he anticipated because he said when he started to pull up the carpet, it had many more staples than should have been used. Since we didn't have any extra carpet, he took a piece out of one of the extra bedroom closests. The work was perfect. Neither my husband nor I could tell where he repaired the carpet. When I complimented him, he said "well, it never comes out as good as I think it should". He didn't suggest any solutions for what we should do with the place in the closet where we now have to find a remnant to cover the place the carpet was taken from, but then, I didn't ask either. Also, he picked up the carpet pieces for the garbage, but I had to vacuum the small stuff myself. Not a big thing, but I did wait for him to ask me for a vacuum so he could do it. It only took me 3 minutes, however. He is an older gentleman, so a very heavy job might be a big much or take longer. I don't know if he has any helpers. For us, he was perfect. I would definitely use him for repair. He said he does alot of it. Since it took a little longer than he thought, I asked if there was a little additional cost and he said no. I did offer to pay a bit more, but he again declined and accepted the agreed upon price. My husband asked about another repair, but Dick explained why we should just leave it. Didn't try to sell another repair.

+ -1 moreIf you're looking for a carpet guy, look no further. When we called we spoke first to Dick's wife, who took a message for us, and then Dick returned our call within an hour. He had had a cancellation that day, so he came out an hour later and fixed everything within two hours. His pricing was more than reasonable ($125 for all the work), and his craftsmanship top notch. He clearly took pride in his work. We would recommend him to anyone, no question.
Description of Work: We needed some repair work done on the carpet edges in 4 doorways (where the carpet meets the tile). The carpet wasn't nailed down correctly, and it was fraying.

+ -1 moreHe arrived right when he said he would and laid down an good quality carpet pad and then had to stretch our salvaged carpet. It was not an easy job, but he got it done on the day that he said he would and he did a nice job of cleaning up. He also installed a really nice divider between our family room and the tile floor in the bathroom. He said it looked nicer than the metal one that was there before, and it does. Dick is a prompt, professional, and overall great guy! We will definitely contact him again when we look for new flooring. I would HIGHLY recommend him!
Description of Work: We had water in our basement so had to remove the carpet and pad. The carpet was salvageable, but the pad was not. We had Dick come out and give us an estimate on installing new pad and replacing our carpet. He got back to me right away with a time to come out and give me a quote. His price was completely reasonable and he was able to install it very quickly, as we had family coming into town.

I told him I didn't want to move several large/heavy pieces of furniture, and asked what he could do to get rid of the ripples in my carpet. He was very knowledgeable and explained how he would restretch the carpet. After looking at the rooms and the amount of work to be done, he said the job was more than he wanted to take on since he works by himself. He suggested I contact someone who could send two people to do the work. I appreciated his honest assessment of the project, and would contact him if I need carpet work done in the future.

Description of Work: I have used Dick twice now for carpet repairs. Once was for replacing a patch of carpet that had been dugg out from some cats and the other was to re-stretch carpet that had to be pulled back from a basement flood.

He was very professional and did a wonderful job. you can't tell that a new pad was placed, it blends seemlessly with the old one. Hopefully, this will get rid of the horrible smell of cat urine. If not, we will use him to replace the carpet. Plan on using him in August to restretch our carpet. Don't hesitate to hire him!

What we especially liked was that he referred us to a carpet warehouse where we could examine a huge number of samples. This seemed much more satisfactory than have someone bring out a few samples. The carpet we chose had to be special ordered, and was delivered to the warehouse the next week. Once it arrived, we set up a day for Dick to install the carpet. On that day, Fooring Removal Inc. arrived early in the morning to remove the old carpet and move four heavy pieces of furniture for us. Once they were done, Dick arrived with the new carpet. He installed it (56 yds) by mid afternoon, at which time Fooring Removal Inc was back to move the four pieces of furniture back again. The enitre job went very smoothly, with beautiful results.
Description of Work: Dick installed new carpet in our living room. The old carpet was removed by Fooring Removal Inc. prior to Dick's arrival. These two companies work together on this kind of project.

+ -1 moreI shopped "Big Box" and Angie's list to compare carpet cost and installation services. I wanted to get carpet in well before Xmas and not spend a fortune if possible. Dick was one of the first people I spoke with and came out for an estimate within a couple of days. His prices were competitive, not significantly cheaper or more expensive. I went with him because of the good reports as well as his ability to schedule the work quickly. Also wanted to give a local, small firm some business. It was easy enough to get to his wholesaler and pick something out. The work finished today and I believe Dick does a very quality job (hard to tell with carpet fibers still everywhere :-). It took a long time to do however. One caveat, this job was unfortunately scheduled during our first winter storm, so everything was running behind. But I did not expect this size of a job to take from 10-6:30pm one day and 9-12:30 the next to complete. Dick had told me it would take a full day to do so I expected that, but not the additional time. He works alone (or at least did for this job) so it can only go so fast. Because of that, be prepared to help him carry in the bigger carpet rolls also. All in all I'm very glad it's done and I believe is quality work, but the time will be a factor if I need carpet again. I'm lucky that my work is pretty flexible, but I shouldn't have had to take additional time off. Pros: *Local *turnaround time to schedule *pricing is competitive *friendly guy, knows his stuff *quality work Cons: *Can be hard to get a hold of (if you call when he's on a job, his wife will answer, and you will wait until he gets home for the day to hear back. No other way to reach him.) *Time to install: I believe this took longer than it would have with other firms (especially because they could have had additional help). *Will not haul away old carpet. He does take the pad. *Punctuality/responsiveness - scheduling and having the estimate went very well, but he was somewhat hard to reach after that, and 2+ hrs late on day 1 (weather related); 30+mins late today. A cell phone might help him stay in closer touch with clients. *Takes checks only

+ -1 moreHe responded promptly to our request for an estimate. He came out to measure the rooms for us and gave us the contact information for a wholesale carpet dealer. The dealer was pleasant to work with and the prices competitive. A much more pleasant way to shop for carpet than at the home store. Dick placed the order for us so to ensure he ordered the correct amount. He acted as if our detailed pattern was no trickier to install than regular plush carpet. He installed the carpet when he said he would and in the time he said it would take. He was careful and meticulous. The finished product looked great, the seams are virutally invisible. He knows what he's doing.

+ -1 moreAfter shopping big box stores - I was very confused with different measuring, price, quality and why it would take months to order. Then I found Dick Miller! I want to carpet everything now! He came to measure and referred me to his wholesaler to pick out carpet. The whole seller talked me thru quality and price and I picked out the carpet. Dick picked it up (he pays for it to get his prices) and installed a few days later. He charges for installation, tear-out and carpet pad. In less than a week I had a new room!

+ -1 moreThe carpets had to be torn apart, as we had some loose floorboards. So Dick?s Carpet Service came out and reinstalled new carpets. I recommended him to my mother. So, we told him what needed to be done with the carpets at her place. We gave him the room dimensions. We even got an estimate from him. It was in line with that of the other places, that we had earlier looked at. We knew the quality of his work, so we worked with him. He will be the first person we call, when we do any carpet work in the future.
Description of Work: My family and I used Dick’s Carpet Service. He came out and reinstalled new carpets. He reinstalled the carpets at my mother’s house too. He reinstalled new carpets in two bedrooms, a hallway, a dining room and three sets of stairs for her, this summer.

+ 0 moreI called Dick requesting a bid for the job. He returned my phone call the same day. He came to measure and give us the bid the following day. With his service, you go to the wholesale car pet store (High Line) and pick out your carpet. Then he buys it at the whole sale price and you reimbursement him for the carpet with no mark up and pay for the labor and pad. (Out of 3 bids for the same job, his was the cheapest by $1000.) The selection at High Line was excellent. The employees there were extremely informative without being sale-sy. Once I ordered the carpet, I scheduled the the job with Dick. He came as scheduled and completed the job in one day with no surprises. I highly recommend this contractor.
