The price was very good for the job they did. It took a while to get their appointment, but once they were here they fixed everything immediately without rescheduling. They had everything in their truck to accomplish the work.
Description of Work: I used Standard Water Control Systems Inc in March to work on my sump pump. They replaced the check valve on the main sump pipe and also replaced the clamps and connectors. They checked all the loose fittings.

We called Standard Water Systems to look at our water problem in the basement. We have had a minor seepage of water in a finished part of the basement since a major flood last year. The flood was due to a disconnected downspout, which has since been repaired, but once the water formed a groove, it persisted in a minor way, but enough to prevent us from recarpeting until repaired. Standard Water Systems was very professional but would not install drain tile without a sump pump, even though the problem was so minor that a sump pump would have been overkill. We chose to go with another Angie's List Honor Role outfit that was comfortable installing drain tile without a sump pump and still provided us a lifetime guarantee on the fix.

Response from Standard Water Control Systems Inc
We're sorry we weren't able to work with this member. Standard Water Control gives a lifetime warranty transferable to owners on all draintile systems we install. We did not feel comfortable replacing 19' of failed draintile and tieing into the original draintile that was in place. Our systems functionality would depend on the condition of the original draintile system which had already failed once. To give a lifetime warranty we must terminate our draintile directly into a sump pit.

A two part job. Very efficient team. Everybody knew their task. They arrived on time. Surprisingly neat for such a large, invasive and messy job. Mike from Standard was very helpful answering all of my questions. We would recommend these guys any day!

I didn’t go with Standard Water Control Systems Inc Company. The person who came out to do the estimate didn’t spend enough time to evaluate the problem. He quickly started to write his estimate rather than explaining to me what my options were. He didn’t discuss anything. That just turned me off a little bit. My overall experience with them was negative. They kept calling me almost everyday to know my decision. The first couple of times it was okay but it was starting to get annoying later on. One of the things they wanted to do was reroute the discharge from our sump pump to the back of our house. I later on learnt that it would have been against the city code. So, I would probably not consider contacting them in the future.

Response from Standard Water Control Systems Inc
Standard Water Control prides itself on providing as much information as the customer needs to make a comfortable and informed decision. We make follow up calls after the estimator has been out to the home to make sure our customers questions and concerns are answered. We ask our customers if they want us to follow up at a later date. If, at any time, the customer says no we stop calling. We've had a lot of history with this home as this was the 3rd time we'd been out to this home, twice for previous owners in 2007 and in 2008. All three times the problem was the same. I'm sorry if this member didn't feel we spent enough time to evaluate the problem.

We had to change dates since we were traveling and Standard Water was very accommodating in finding us the next earliest date. We were constantly kept in the loop with reminders. Jerad and the rest of the crew from standard water showed up on time on the job day. While Jerad came in and took a look at the basement, the rest of the crew got to work immediately unloading their equipment. Jerad was very friendly, courteous and professional. The crew took a lot of care to respect our privacy and were mindful of taking all the precautions to make sure their equipment didn't damage the driveway or the yard. We were amazed at the speed with which the work was done. The basement also had a large concrete slab that was placed for a fuel tank. We asked Jerad if it might be possible to jackhammer the slab out and replace the concrete. We were given a quote and told that the work wouldn't add additional time. Throughout the work we were able to go down to the basement and the crew were happy to talk about and explain their work. Todd was the radon specialist and he went to work making sure all the pieces were in place, he was very professional and courteous and took time to explain what he was doing and how the system would work. Everything was done and in place by 5.00pm. The crew left everything in great condition and the basement was very clean considering the work. The next day the concrete crew stopped by at 8.30am and we done with pouring concrete before noon. Once again the crew was professional and courteous and after the work was completed they showed us around the basement explaining what was done and care instructions for the system. Everything was left in great condition, the only thing we found was a small 1 sqft area on the lawn where some concrete managed to find its way on top of the lawn. Not a problem considering the work.
Description of Work: * Basement flooding consultation and estimate * Interior drain tile installation * Replace sump basket and sump pump in existing drain tile in crawl space * Connect existing drain tile with new drain tile with a radon mitigation system We contacted Standard Water for a consultation when our basement flooded during the spring melt/rains. Kevin from standard water came by, he was very professional, knowledgeable and patient with all our questions. He spent some time making measurements and asking questions about the house. We had an existing drain tile system in one part of the house, but this had a small sump basket that was open and no sump pump was installed. We also mentioned to Kevin that we had high radon levels. He consulted with the owner of Standard Water and came up with several great solutions. We went with their plan of putting in a interior drain tile in the complete perimeter of the basement, including along the wall between the crawl space and the basement. This meant they had to jackhammer below several walls to lay a contiguous drain tile. They would then hammer our the old sump basket in the crawl space, replace it with a bigger sealed basket, place a pvc pipe that would then connect with a similar pipe in the basement drain tile as part of a integrated radon mitigation system. This would create negative pressure both below the basement and the crawl space. This was an innovative solution that no one else offered to us and the price for such a complex task was very competitive. In fact it was in the ballpark with several other estimates we got for less complete work.

They communicated the times they'd be at my house very well. They were punctual, professional, the job was done well & quickly, & I was barely inconvenienced. It was a lot easier than I would have expected from this type of job. I was expecting to have to do a little extra dusting/cleaning, especially in the adjacent finished area of the basement, but that was minimal. I will definitely recommend them to any friends/family with basement water problems.
Description of Work: Tapped into the existing drain tile system to alleviate water leaking into the basement. There was an existing system that they had installed in 1985, but it only covered the finished portion of the basement. The leakage was occurring in one smaller unfinished area. When providing an estimate the salesman had the plans from the 1985 job with him, so he knew exactly where the system in place started & ended. They were the lowest price of the 4 estimates I received, but only by $100, so there were other factors that made them the best choice for me. As an aside, all of the others who gave estimates asked if Standard Water was one of the companies I would be getting an estimate from. That let me know that their competition is worried about them.

After my basement flooded for the third time I took bids from 5 different drain tile companies, but working directly with Mike the president of Standard Water made a very positive experience. Standard was on-time, organized, flexible, and although the process is very messy they kept it as clean as possible. When Mike came to my house he took the time to explain in detail the whole process and come up with an innovative solution of redirecting my sump line while using my existing new sump pump. Standard was also flexible enough to install my new drain tile early during flood season since they knew my basement was flood prone. When it came time to install the free flow discharge system Mike was even able to contact me on the weekends to schedule an appropriate time. Overall with the quality of their work and their great warranty I highly recommend Standard Water.

Dave come out and did an assessment of our basement to determine whether or not we need to install drain tile and sump pump. After a though assessment, he determined that didn't need either and recommended some landscaping and more changes to down spouts to take care of the problem. Dave was excellent to work with and a refreshing to get a recommendation that didn't cost me a fortune. I would totally recommend Standard Water to anyone with basement water problems.
Description of Work: We were experiencing some water sepage problems in our lower level and needed to detemrine the cause and possible solutions. I had another company out and they recommended an expensive dain tile and sump pump system that would rip up half of the lower level. I contacted Standard Water for another opinion.

Excellent company to work with. They had excellent communication and their workers were very efficient. At the same time the drain tile system was being installed, we had a plumber install a floor drain. Standard not only opened the floor were the plumber needed it, but when he was done they cemented the area around the new floor drain. We very much appreciated the extra work. They didn't even charge us extra. Would definitely hire again.

It went well. I have talked to neighbors who have used them and they have thought highly of Standard Water. They were very responsive to any questions and they were adaptable as far as the date that we wanted to have it done. There was a small glitch where the water got spilled on the concrete that just got laid but they came out the next day to fix it, they did not question anything or take time to get it fixed. An old contractor who I worked with has worked with Standard Water and thinks very highly of the owner. So far, my experience with them has been good. I got another bid and Standard Water's was lower, their price was right in the ballpark. I did not get many estimates because I heard such good words about Standard Water. They also took out an old wash tub and part of a shower wall and did not charge me for that. They were very accomodating. They were very workmanlike and professional. They came out when they said they would and the sales person was always punctual in coming out.

I was worried that they were going to tell me that I needed a new system, but they said it was fine, and I didn't need to replace it. They were honest to me too. The pump was not level so he replaced the a pipe for the 90 degree angle. He probably saved my pump for another couple years. Also he didn't charge extra. Also I found out that they had installed there product right. Everything works great, and my basement does not flood. He enhanced the system to extend the life of the pump. He was honest, decent, and fair. If anyone has a wet basement, they should call Standard Water Control Systems. I will definitely use them if needed. For being a large and older company, they stick to their values of being honest and affordable. They have happy employees. They seemed to enjoy their job. Rob was the guy that came out. He was willing to go that extra mile. He made sure that my system was operating the best it could. The pump has worked for 7 years, and there is no mold in my basement or anything.
Description of Work: Standard Water Control Systems did standard water treatments to the basement. They installed the water pump system in 2003 for the house that I just bought. They came out to give an assessment to make sure everything was working properly. They told me that I didn't need to replace it.

I have used Standard Water Control to resolve two water issues in the past. The first project was in 1996 where two inches of water flooded the lower level of the New Hope property in the spring thaw. Standard Water Control came to the rescue and installed the trench and drainage system on the whole perimeter of the lower level. The system works with no water issues to this day. So in 2002 when water flooded the basement of our South Minneapolis property I didn?t hesitate in calling Standard Water Control to resolve the problem. The same system was installed on the entire perimeter of the lower level. After the installation of the water proofing system was complete we refinished the lower level confident that our investment wouldn?t be destroyed by the next heavy rain or warm spring snow melt. The property was placed on the market in 2006 and the sale was contingent on inspection. In the buyers inspection of the property the places where the paint had not been redone suggested that there was a water problem. ( I wish we had this inspector when we purchased the property.) After reviewing the list of items that the inspection highlighted as needing to be addressed, we contacted Standard Water Control with the water concern. Standard Water Control immediately faxed a copy of the guaranty for the water proofing work which stated that Standard Water Control stands behind the work done and the guaranty would transfer to the buyer. This allayed any concerns of a current water issue at the property. Our most recent experience with Standard Water Control was just this past month in January of 2011 at our home in Burnsville. The builder installed sump pump and drainage system failed. After pulling up the carpet and tracing back the water intrusion point we discovered the foundation block wall had a crack from floor to ceiling. It was obvious that a repair to the damaged wall had been attempted in the past. Most likely just before the sheet rock was installed by the previous owners. We called in Standard Water Control and they were able to install the ?Fortress? system to reinforce the wall. They also core poured the wall after install rebar for additional structural support. Due to the wall repair the drainage system also needed to be upgraded. All total the installation for the project was ~$4K. We think this is a good value for the peace of mind knowing that we won?t have a structural or water issue again guarantied. It?s great to be able to go back to a great company that does the job right and provides great value with a lifetime guaranty. We highly recommend Standard Water Control for any water proofing or structural issue.

I was able to make an appointment at the first call to the company. It was about one week out - which was fine. The representative was on time (even with my unspectacular directions), courteous, and professional. He took measurements of the room in question and reviewed his findings and suggestions with us later, leaving us with a written estimate. A company representative also followed up via phone a few days later - which I appreciated.

I scheduled Standard to do the work. The crew came on time, Joe the crew leader introduced himself and he and the crew dust-proofed the work area and within 15 minutes the demolition began. This group of workers worked efficiently and made amazing progress with each passing hour. Neighbors noticed the workers, trucks etc. and commented that this was a big job likely taking 3+ days and a huge mess! Not with Standard! The job was completed in one day! The old system was out, new and amazing system was in, including a new trunk line, a new sump basket, pump and backup pump, and a Kevlar strap for the wall crack were installed. The jobsite was treated with great care the entire time, dust was never a problem, I only had to dust buster a quarter-sized pile of dust on the main level after they left. I was given a thorough walk-thru of the project upon completion with explainations as to how the new system would work, etc.. I received a follow up survey and free radon test kit from the company a few days later. I am thrilled with the new system and no longer fear a wet basement. I now look forward to finishing the basement and enjoying a large part of my home!
Description of Work: I called Standard Water Control out to my home to get a bid on solving a wet basement problem. I explained to the estimator what had happened previously and he laid out what likely had happened with our current draintile/sump system. He suggested several options available to resolve the problem and also noted a large crack in a foundation wall and offered solutions for that as well. Within a few days I received a complete bid package with pricing, references, brochures and a dvd of the products and processes Standard uses to help solve water and basement issues. Very informative and helpful.

We had had trouble every year recently with water seepage in our basement during March/April, when it rained but the ground was still frozen. The water pooled up in the back yard and came into the basement walls in the laundry area and adjoining basement bedroom. To prevent this, the company had to dig a trench around the inside basement wall, install drainage tile and a sump pump and replace the cement floor around the sides where the drain tile had been installed. It was a messy job, with lots of cement dust, etc. They minimized this problem with plastic sheeting over doors. They moved the washer & dryer, pulled up carpet and put plastic sheeting over everything else. They were prompt and courteous and we are happy with the result, a dry basement.
Description of Work: The company installed a sump pump, drainage pipe, and moisture barrier inside around the back and sides of our basement to prevent moisture seepage and water coming into the area during the early spring thaw every year.

Install draintile throughout a larger basement (1000 sq. ft) after it had flooded. Gave us an estimate and were able to fit the work in earlier than anticipated. Very professional. A lot of unforseen problems arose (such as our floor slab being 16 inches as opposed to the normal 4 inches) that ran up costs - they probably ended up eating some of these unforseen costs as they didn't think it was fair to raise the amount of their estimate by so much money. We had a very positive experience and are looking forward to our basement never flooding again!
Description of Work: Install drain tile in basement.
