Interior drain tile & sump pump systems - battery backup pumps. Installation - egress windows, glass block windows & window wells. Foundation repair & reinforcement. Radon Mitigation.
We were happy to find a company that had done this kind of thing before and knew what they were doing. The work was done on two different days: one day to build the wall and let it dry; another day to fill the space with sand. They simply cut through the concrete step which sat above the well room; filled the well room and then poured new concrete to repair the step.
Description of Work: They sealed off our unused well room by building a concrete block wall. Then they filled the space from above with sand to prevent the walls from ever caving in.

Over time I was having water in my basement that was coming through the block foundation walls. It caused damage to my drywall and carpet. I did the tear out myself but wanted to make sure I would not get further water damage going forward. I got two estimates for the same scope of work. Standard Water's was about $1,000 less than the other. Based on the price and the positive reviews, I hired them to do the work. They spelled exactly how it would go and they performed the work as they promised. The job was done over two days. The first day they used a jackhammer to dig a trench along the inside of my exterior wall, installed the drain tile and rock in the trench. They installed a sump pump under my basement stairs and ran the discharge to the outside in the agreed upon spot. The next business day a different crew came and repaired the cement floor. The first day the sump pump motor did not work when tested, so the 2nd crew replaced it. Both crews did an excellent job of hanging poly to protect from the dust and debris and then cleaning up when finished. Overall, I was pleased with the job and the professionalism of everyone I dealt with at Standard Water.

This was a highly professional job: The entire process went amazingly well! Not only was the company here promptly whenever scheduled, but the installation of both systems were completely installed within one day, with day #2 for remaining clean-up and laying of concrete... Because we live in a townhouse which borders on a city park, exterior treatment was VERY carefully accomplished - with plywood sheets laid on the grass to completely prevent lawn damage. In preparation for the work to be accomplished, huge sheets of plastic had been hung to totally cover EVERYTHING else in the basement...Amazingly, we had little dust remaining to clean-up!

Very well. The team showed up in a couple of vehicles and were ready to get to work and get it done and do it correctly (my assumption). My basement is unfinished, so it was a bit easier to manuever things. They took care of disconnecting my laundry tub, washer and dryer and moved them to the center of the room so that they could get to the areas that they needed to. The team seemed to work very well together, coordinating the process seamlessly (in my opinion). When I got home from work later the first day, they were wrapping up. I was impressed with how clean the work site was. I was given a tour of what was done, what was found and what the next step would be. I appreciated the frankness of the experience i.e. "this is what we found, this is what we did, and this is what you can expect". I couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: I bought a house a couple of years ago (an older home). Apparently the people who installed the previous drain tile didn't know what they were doing, or decided to do it for the short term. Last Spring/Summer/Fall water was coming in the basement under the floor (not walls). It was a horrible situation. Anyway, I decided that this year, i didn't want to repeat that, so I called around and found Standard Water Control Systems. I had them come out and give me a ball-park idea of what I was dealing with. They were very professional and sincere. I appreciated it. It was apparent to me that they were a quality, well run company that knew their business. The confidence, directness was appreciated. I felt that I was treated with the utmost of respect and dignity. And I couldn't be happier (relieved) that I don't have to vacuume water out of my basement 4x day anymore. The team showed up ready to get to work and I felt that they were very competent and professional! I tell ALL my neighbors and co-workers about this experience. Sadly, I haven't had many positive ones, but THIS is definitely a POSITIVE!!!

The team was very professional and courteous. They were nice enough to put up plastic tarps on the entryway to our kitchen to avoid debris and dust from the work being performed from going into the kitchen. My only complaint about this point was that tacks were used to hold up the tarp and were pushed into the plaster, leaving small holes in the wall after the job was complete. On the other hand, it was probably the best way to keep the tarp from falling so I can't complain about it too much. They arrived early in the morning to work and stayed on a bit past 6pm. During the day, the team dug the trench and excavated the debris from the basement. On the following day, a few more members of the team came to pour the concrete. They were finished after a few hours and cleaned up all of the remaining tools and debris that were in the basement. I was very impressed with the work and would definitely recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: As it was several years ago some of the details are a bit fuzzy, but I recall that I was very impressed with the work that was done by Standard Water Control Systems. The team dug a concrete drain tile system around the perimeter of my basement after a sewer line backup had flooded our basement and destroyed it. The prior owners had not installed one, so we contacted Mike Hogenson after getting a referral from our State Farm agent. The SWCS team used equipment to tear out a two-foot trench along the wall around the entire basement. They poured in rock and cement to allow drainage from any water that might seep in from the outer walls. At the front of the house, they installed an underground pump that plugs into a nearby power outlet. The system has an alarm which indicates if the water level has risen past a certain point in the pump so that the owner can react quickly if the system were not to work properly. The SWCS team ran a PVC up through the wall behind the drywall to an outlet that juts out from the foundation of the house about 12 feet.

The crew was very courteous and the crew chief, Jerod, was very professional and accommodating. They did the drain tile work on 58 linear feet of basement wall, added a drain in the well room, and performed the extra concrete breakup in about four hours! Because the main plumbing drain system for the house was being revamped after the drain tile installation, the concrete to cover the drain tile was not poured until the plumbing drain work was completed. Mike, the owner, was very accommodating in having the concrete poured a couple weeks out instead of right away after drain tile installation. Plus, he only charged us $490 dollars for the extra concrete breakup and new concrete pour! The work was excellent in all respects!
Description of Work: Standard Water installed drain tile on one side of my basement plus a sump pump. They also performed extra floor breakup & poured new concrete for removal of old drain pipes and installation of new pipes/locations for a complete basement remodel.

I actually had to wait a few months because it was a very wet winter and everyone was getting drain tile installed so it was very popular. I liked the drain tile product that they would be installing They were slightly cheaper and were able to install the drain tile slightly faster than the other companies I got quotes from. They did the installation in a shorter period of time. They were able to do it in two days when other people said it would take three or four days. I would definitely use them again if I needed more drain tile installed.

I called Mike from Standard Water System sent Matt to gather dimensions and view the problem. Matt spent a great amount of time educating me on their products and how it works. They were so thorough and courteous, from the moment I received the estimate up until I hired them for their services. I was very impressed with how quickly and efficiently they work. It took two days to do the project. On the first day it was about four people, and they each had their specific responsibilities. They had 99 percent of it completed in about 7 hours. The next day two workers came in to complete the job which was essentially just pouring concrete and clean-up. Speaking of clean-up, they take great strides in seeing that vents are covered, furniture is covered, they protect the entry-way floor, etc. This is so important given the drilling they have to do and the amount of dust. Lastly, we were tremendously satisfied with the cost.
Description of Work: I hired them to install drain tile in my basement, which required drilling and removing the concrete floor across 1/4 of my home. They removed the concrete, installed their special system, hauled in and laid rock and installed a sump pump. Lastly, they poured in new concrete.

Standard Water Control Systems, Inc. provides the highest quality product at a decent price. We did extensive research on various companies. The drain tile system that Standard offers is the best in our opinion. The sales rep started the process by examining our entire basement and the troubles that were occurring. He did not oversell his product... very professional. The owner/President contacted us a few times during the process to make sure all was well. The crew of seven workers completed the project in one day... amazing, there was a ton of work to do. We can't say enough good things about this company... our best experience with a contractor by far!
Description of Work: Complete basement waterproofing system. Standard removed concrete around the perimeter of the basement, drilled holes in cement block walls, installed a full drain tile system and replaced the concrete. In the system the following was used: Rigid PVC pipe with drainage holes properly descended to the basin of a dual Sump Pump system (with battery backup and alarms/sensors), a special drainage board was installed to allow any wall water to access the system and continues across the footings and a poly sheeting moisture barrier. Six new basement block windows were installed. A Radon test kit was sent to us recently and we will perform that and mail it in for results from Standard.

The experience was the best I have ever had working with a contractor. I had multiple quotes and was able to find other companies that could do the work earlier but at the end of the day, I knew that I would be paying a similar price for a sub-par product. Here is what sets SWC apart from other companies. They have a patented diamond board designed to allow water to flow behind it while still providing structural integrity. They use large rigid PVC with holes that will not clog all sloped towards the sump well. They drill large holes in every void including seams/corners. They use a high quality, sealed sump well and pump. They install piping for the future backup pump installed just in case. Lifetime transferable warranty compared to limited or non existant. In addition to the above points, SWC has dedicated crews for the drain tile and concrete work. On the first day, they stop out with two huge dump trucks with everything they need. They cover everything they can with plastic and cover the walking path in the lawn with plywood. They already had all of the materials layed out and were beginning to prep the basement during the 5 minute conversation I had with the foreman. They also opened up the concrete for me to replace the existing floor drain. The second day, the concrete crew stopped out and poured the concrete and finished the job. The installation was very high quality and well worth it. When I received the quote, I cringed at the cost but I know I would be completely disappointed had I gone with one of the other contractors just because they could complete the job a little faster. The competitors used cheap builder grade materials, didn't seem to have any where near the expertise and provided no warranty at a comparable price. There is a reason SWC is booked sometimes for months at a time!! Thankfully they were able to move me up a bit but I'm glad I waited a month.
Description of Work: The job included complete removal and replacement of the existing drain tile system. The current drain tile was clogged and not functioning do to the way it was installed 30+ years ago.

We received an advance call telling us when to expect the crew to arrive. The crew arrived on time; established a work route in our yard that would have the least amount of impact on the grass etc. They used poly and taped off all openings to limit the amount of dust that could migrate upstairs. Although there was jack hammering and drilling noise it was at a tolerable level. The crew was very professional and left our basement very neat/clean. It was very obvious they knew what they were doing and completed the entire job in one day. About two weeks later a rep from the company called to check if we were satisfied or if there were any complaints. We were very impressed with this company.
Description of Work: SWCSI installed a basement waterproofing system which included foundation wrap, excavation around the perimeter of the foundation, adding rock and drain tile, filling back in with cement and installing the sump pump.

Dave McClanahan came to give us an estimate on drain tiling and a sump pump for our 50 year old home. He gave a very detailed description, sat down, drew up the plan, and gave us the company's wonderful packet of information, including a DVD which takes you through the process. He gave us a detailed estimate, with each cost itemized. Very professional, but easy to talk to, and no sales pressure. The next week the President of the company, Michael Hogenson, followed up with a letter, thanking us for considering their company. Very nice.

Standard Water replaced our basement's sump pump and drain tile system with a modern, high quality system. While I am satisfied with the final product, I was not happy about how they completed the work. One of the workers came into my house smelling of alcohol, the foreman required that I remove the floorboards when the salesman/president told me at the time of signing a contract that this would not be necessary for me to do and they left the walls and appliances in the basement covered in mud. Perhaps this is to be expected, but for this amount of money I would have expected them to have cleaned up after themselves. I expressed my concerned in a phone message to the company, which was not returned until I submitted the company's survey. At that time the company's president called twice (left messages). Perhaps my expectations were misaligned based on all of the very positive Angie's List reviews, but I would expect better of contractors in my house.

Response from Standard Water Control Systems Inc
I am truly sorry we didn’t meet this member’s expectation. We at Standard Water Control Systems take pride in our company and service. We go the extra mile to take care of our customers, giving them all the information they need to make an informed decision. We try very hard not to raise their expectation as to the amount of mess we make. In fact, in our DVD we show just how big of a job installing draintile is; it’s a downright dirty work. During a typical job we haul 20 tons of dirt, concrete and gravel in and out the windows and when the ground is wet it is nothing but mud. We explain in our video and in person that we clean up, but we don’t mop the floor or wash the walls down. We also state that they may have to paint the walls when we’re done. We do cover things such as appliances with plastic. As for the baseboards, a homeowner can leave them but they will get damaged as we are working next to the walls with jackhammers, drills, shovels, etc. We try to limit the damage but some is to be expected with this type of work. For the comment about the employee who smelled like alcohol, no one drinks before or on the job. We do drug and alcohol testing at random and would not let anyone that we thought to be impaired work with power tools or go to a jobsite. We always appreciate the input from our customers. We value their thoughts and comments and we use them in our company meetings to help improve ourselves and our company.

I have to tell you how great this company is. They came out for an estimate within 24 hours of our phone call. The employee who came out was the most honest, trustworthy contractor who we have ever dealt with. We have had out 6 companies who of which no 2 companies agreed on what to do. That is why I called this company. They told us we did not have to fix one of the problems. We had water in our concrete block on the base and they told us to call an insulator and that's what we did. They were correct. That issue was not a big deal. The other corner of our house was leaking and they said they see this all the time. It is where the concrete block and the wood of the house come together. They suggested my husband dig up the side and showed us exactly where to seal. They saved us thousands of dollars. Other companies tried to sell us a drain tile system. Landscaping. On and On. They could have done the same. Instead they were honest and real. They helped solve our problems with out giving a dime to there company. Like old time companies!! I have to say Thank You and we will refer you and use you in the future if we need. THANK YOU. Janelle and Dan Ruiz

Standard Water Control did a wonderful job of installing the pump and the drain tile. After the demolition was completed they cleaned all the debris away and left the basement very clean. The next day the cement crew came to finish the job and once again everything was left clean and neat. All the people from the company that I worked with were very nice to deal with. The results are great. We've had two storms since the pump was installed and everything worked great. No water in the basement. Hurray!
