Services we offer
Interior drain tile & sump pump systems - battery backup pumps. Installation - egress windows, glass block windows & window wells. Foundation repair & reinforcement. Radon Mitigation.
They did a very good job at converting the system and installing a u-tube which i can monitor to make sure that the radon fan is running. The contractor came to my home at the decided upon time - setup his equipment and started working on attaching the fan to the already existing passive PVC pipe. After the fan was installed my radon reading went from about 5.4 pCI to 0.3 pCI. I am very pleased with the installation
Description of Work: I called in Standard Water Control Systems to convert my passive radon control system to an active system.

I called the folks at Standard Water Control as they had initially installed the drain tile and sump pumps in my house before I bought the house in July 2012. The drain tile was installed in 1997 along with the original sump pump. The back-up sump pump was installed in 2004. I replaced the back-up sump pump batteries last fall. I ended up replacing the original sump pump myself with phone help from the employees at Standard Water Control. I did buy a new sump pump onsite for $320 and found that the price is about twice what you can purchase similar models for on Amazon. So, I think the item was a bit overpriced. Anyhow, this company has a good reputation and was helpful over the phone and in person, so i will use them again in the future as needed.

We were referred to Standard Water by a family member, and were very happy with their service. They came out for an inital consultation and explained thoroughly what they proposed we do to solve water problems we were having in the unfinished basement of our very old home. They scheduled our installation appointment that very day. They called the week before our scheduled appointment and said they had an opening a few days earlier, so we were able to have it installed even sooner. They arrived on time and completed the work quickly. They walked us through exactly what they did, how it works, and how to take care of the system. When we needed 1 small additional thing from them, they were prompt in dropping it off a few days later. They also called following the installation to make sure everything went well. We haven't had any water in the basement since and are very happy with the outcome.

We contacted Standard Water Control for a recommendation on possible drain tile installation in our basement. We were so impressed with the professionalism and honesty of Dave, the salesperson who came out. He really talked through some of our various issues we had in our basement, gave us some basic education on what we were likely dealing with, and recommended several alternatives for us to deal with the issue - not all of which involved his company's services. We are still evaluating our best options for dealing with our water issues in the basement. But if we do move forward with drain tile, we will absolutely be contacting Standard Water Control again. We were very impressed!

We contacted Standard Water to give us a bid for a leaky basement problem that we had. We have an existing drain tile system that was installed when the house was built. When the salesperson showed up he went right into measuring our basement for new drain tile and started trying to convince us that old drain tile is ALWAYS installed incorrectly and that it needed to be replaced. Not ever looking at the source of the problem to see if there was an simpler fix...just scare tactics. Fortunately, I had already contacted Jim C from Beaver Basement Systems and he had given us an assurance that our drain tile was not defective or broken, just needed a slight adjustment, test it, and seal it back up (total price of $1,500 vs up to $5,500). When I pressed the salesmen (not to knock sales people because I am one) on why we could not test it and fix the area that was showing water, he said that would not work and we would need to do what he was proposing. When I pressed him harder he then back peddled and said that we could hook up to a portion of the drain tile (after he said that ALL drain tile was installed incorrectly). The whole time, he just kept the pressure on...that does not work with us. Then he insisted on sitting down with us to do his presentation and try to up sell their services with all the "bells and whistles" that they try to push on customers that are really not necessary. He needs to pick up on verbal and non-verbal queues! He over stayed his welcome by about 20 minutes. Then he shot us a 2 tiered price with a discount of 10% if we booked before the end of March. When we asked about extending the timeframe and that we may need more time to think it over, he said that he could not do that without talking to the owner of the company. In our opinion, don't offer it then. If you have a wet basement, do your homework and give Beaver Basement Systems a call BEFORE you call Standard Water. That way you will at least have some back up on a potential different angle.

Response from Standard Water Control Systems Inc
First just let me say thank you for letting us into your home to bid on your project. Second, I’m sorry for the poor experience you had with us. I am thankful you offered your thoughts on Angie's List. This gives us an opportunity to respond in a number of ways; 1. we get to apologize and 2. we get to talk about this situation in our sales meetings to better equip our people to communicate effectively with homeowners so a situation like this won’t occur again. This is how we learn and improve. We take our reputation very seriously and do everything we can to make the homeowner comfortable using Standard Water. Overwhelmingly, our reviews are positive and our awards for customer service speak for themselves. I would like to clarify a few things; our salesperson didn’t offer two tiered pricing the way we understand tiered pricing plans. The estimates provided were for full and partial replacement of the existing system. As for the discount; that was an advertised March promotion and -- by law -- must expire. The job itself presented a couple of problems; if we attempted a “fix” of the existing system the homeowner is exposed financially if they get water anywhere else in the basement in the future. There can be no warranty on portions of the system a contractor doesn’t touch. Also, if the attempted “fix” doesn’t work, even after the contractor has come back a couple of times, the homeowner will incur additional expense as they continue to spot troubleshoot the problem. Keep in mind each fix is as disruptive and messy as the previous since you have to jackhammer the floor each time. On the other hand, if we were to replace the entire system the homeowner is completely covered by our lifetime warranty. If anything goes wrong with one of our installations, we are there to take care of it. We’ve been called back to homes we installed 30 years ago and made things right -- we even upgrade those systems to current specs. Our clients really appreciate our commitment to customer service and our warranty. To our way of thinking the best solution for a drain tile system that is not working (by definition any system that allows water into the basement is not working) is complete replacement with our system that offers a lifetime warranty (which transfers to each and every owner). This way the home is covered for the life of the foundation. Is our solution more expensive? Sure, at first ... but our lifetime warranty ensures you won’t be paying for re-installation ever again. In this case our point of view did not meet the customer’s needs. We’re happy another contractor was available to help. Best Wishes, Michael Hogenson President Standard Water Control Systems, Inc.

Our sump pump was making a humming noise over a recent somewhat rainy weekend. We moved into our home just over two years ago and the sump pump had always worked. However the home is nearly 20 years old and we have no history on if or when the pump had ever been replaced (ditto for the back-up battery). They were able to schedule a technician for later in the day, then called back because another tech in the area happened to be running ahead of schedule... could he come by sooner? Sure! I asked for a rough estimate of services (if sump pump and battery had to be replaced) and in the end was charged what I had been quoted. Rob was polite, professional and explained what I needed to know. Work was completed within an hour. I contacted Standard Water because of the positive reviews here on Angie's list - we are very pleased with their service and wouldn't hesitate to contact them again.
Description of Work: Replaced sump pump and back-up battery for sump pump. Also checked drainage outside to ensure the pipe wasn't frozen.

During the estimating process, there was some confusion about what size window well we needed for the egress window. On site however, Jose' had everything well under control. The installation went very well and they totally cleaned up the job site. Very nice people to work with and they do quality work.

We called Standard Water Control after a bad experience with someone else. They came right out to give us an estimate and found out that they had done some previous work there before for my Aunt and Uncle....so they already were familiar with the problem. My Uncle had only requested a partial job the first time. This time we completed the entire basement. They did the work about two weeks later. The first day they broke up all the concrete and laid the drain tile. When they left you wouldn't have even known they were there. Everything was spotless. The next day they came and poured the concrete and again, expect for the new concrete you wouldn't have guessed we had work done. I was very pleased with both the service and the work.
They were prompt. They did the whole process in one day. They had an excellent team that came in. They had a point person that was there to explain what they were doing and to address and questions that I had. I was curious to go down and see what was going on and the welcomed me down there. They discovered that I didn't have concrete block, that I had kind of like a brick block on my foundation because it's an older home. He explained that they couldn't drill holes around the perimeter like they normally do because of what I had. He said that the hole in the block are sideways so it would still drain. It would just be a little bit slower. He explained that whole process to me. When they left they cleaned up their mess inside and out. They covered everything in plastic to reduce the dust on my things. When they left everything was clean. He took me downstairs and explained the sump pump and the back up, and what I need to do to keep it maintained. I was given a packet of information about my system. The home office sent me a radon testing packet to use and an evaluation to check and make sure I was pleased with their service. The gal that I talked to before and after was always there to address any questions to help me decide if I should get the battery back up, and the pros and cons. They were very flexible as far as the day they could come do it. They called before hand and let me know when they were going to be here and they were on time. I was very fortunate. I don't have any reason why I wouldn't recommend them.
Description of Work: They removed all the concrete around the exterior perimeter of my house and the basement. They installed their water drainage system. They replaced the concrete. They installed a sump pump and back up sump pump.

They we quick to respond to the call to look at the project. The estimate was accepted and work was scheduled for the following week. Due to a number of emergencies they had to keep rescheduling the job for almost two weeks, this was not a big deal as I am retired and home most of the time. Someone under estimated the amount time it would take to do the drain tile system because they did not start until after lunch and did not finish until 9:30 that evening. Installation of the 4 glass block windows was done several days later and was completed in about three hours with no problems.
Description of Work: Installed drain tile, relocated the sump pump and discharge piping and sealed the crawl space in my basement. Also installed 4 glass block windows in the basement.

Description of Work: The Services that Standard Waterproofing provided was very Professional and the Crew very courteous. I received a call before they came to our house, arrival was on time. The crew got busy right away putting down walking planks on the yard to the window were all materials was going in and out of basement. All items that had to remain in our basement had been wrapped in plastic to keep the amount of dust and dirt at a minimum, the basement entrance was also protected a plastic sheet so no dust came to the rest of the house. The waterproofing was all done in one (1) very long day and this was amazing to me, the final clean up outside and inside was great everything was very clean. Standard Water officecalled a couple of days later to see if we had been satisfied and if there was any questions we might have. I would recommend Standard Waterproofing to anyone, very good work, very satisfied. Baement had water leaking problems every time it rained, Standard water gave us a solution that I was very impressed by. A 2' trench was dug up around the entire perimiter of the basement, drain pipe and Sumpump installed, walls have been covered with a thick Polly sheet and the Standard Water patend drain board, basement floor cemented over again.

We have a room under our garage that occasionally had some water seepage in one corner. To prevent this from happening in the future, we called Standard Water Control Systems and two other competitors. Mike was very responsive to our inquiry, evaluating the problem and proposing a solution. After taking measurements and discussing the placement of a sump pump Mike provided an estimate, detailed written materials, a CD which showed the installation process, a reference list and a timeline. My neighbor happened to be one of the references, so I also spoke with him before selecting SWCS. My only disappointment was that they were booked for nearly 2 months out and we were anxious to complete the remodeling of this room. Nevertheless, I was convinced by their professionalism and selected SWCS. They removed the cement in the floor along the 3 outside walls, installed drain tile, rock filter and moisture barriers. They drilled holes through the cement blocks in the walls to create drainage holes. They installed a superior sump system in one corner with a drainage pipe out the side wall. They patched the floor and explained how to maintain the system. I was pleased with their professionalism and would highly recommend SWCS.

Company gave us a bid for encapsulating a crawlspace. They also gave a recommendation for drain tile and a radon system. We decided to address the problem differently, but they gave good information and a decent bid. They came on time, were professional, and gave a detailed written bid by email and through the mail. They made follow-up phone calls in case we had further questions. My only complaint was that the person giving the bid was unable to fully answer my questions/concerns about how the radon system would work with my previous drain tile system and how it would affect further basement finishing plans.

They were terrific from start to finish! They had remarkable customer service throughout the process, from the estimate (which took two visits because I failed to ask all of my questions the first time) to their willingness to wrap up the process over the Thanksgiving weekend. I was always able to reach someone, even outside their normal business hours, to get my questions answered, and their bid was very competitive for what I really believe to be a superior product. They were flexible and worked with me to do the work when I needed it done, and were even willing to add a task that they hadn't planned on in their original estimate (replacing my lally columns, including having to modify the columns that I purchased because I couldn't find small enough columns). They did a great job on the drain tile, cleaned up after themselves very well, and did great finishing work to maintain a seal for my radon system. They even sent me a radon test kit as a follow-up, even though they didn't do radon work for me. I was even impressed with their subcontractors, who poured my new floor. The subcontractors weren't quite as punctual as the guys from Standard, but the floor looks fantastic and was well worth the slight delay. I really can't say enough about Standard Water Control Systems, and will absolutely hire them again if I ever have the opportunity. Fortunately, with their solid reputation, I'm confident that I'll never again need basement waterproofing work!
Description of Work: I hired them to install drain tile ($5000), remove and replace about 300 square feet of concrete basement floor to level it ($4000), modify and install two steel lally columns ($700), and remove 180 square feet of sidewalk ($600).

They were quick and efficient. Amazed how a few guys can accomplish so much in such a quick amount of time. We were happy with the discounts they gave us and the final cost. They were very courtious and above all, provided enough information afterward that gave us the comfort and confidence the job was done well.
Description of Work: They installed new drain tile and sump pump. We had them tear up 44 ft. of concrete (2 walls) and installed drainage pipe, filled in the area with washed rock to envelope the draintile. They used their patented drainage boards up the wall and across the footings. They removed all of the concrete and replaced with new concrete. They provided a Radon test kit and moved obstructions and put them back (our dryer).

It went well. Michael came over several times to ensure they had everything necessary to do the job. He double checked the status of the suppport posts which required some additional work ahead of time to pour new footings. This is dirty, heavy work, and all the guys were very respectful and worked very hard to keep the dirt to a minimum. I felt very comfortable with all the employees, they were personable and did a great job communicating with us during the job. There were a couple of things that I needed help with- he had his guys remove the basement stairs for us, for example. He also left his ladder in place so we could get up and down while we put the new stairs in. There were a couple of issues after the fact- one of the plinths on a footing was a little crumbly, and the closer on the screen door got bent. They immediately came and fixed the issues- even though I told them I could replace the closer on the screen door myself, they got the piece for me and came and put it in, which I really appreciated.
Description of Work: We had the company come in, remove the existing basement floor, install drain tile and a sump pump, and pour a brand new floor. We also had to have new footings poured for a couple of our support posts.

Everything went well. They showed us how to work the sump pump, and they cleaned up after themselves. My only issue is that they never came to the house to inspect some wet spots that I noticed after the job. On 5/8/12 we installed a draintile system for this member and all went well. On 5/28/12 the member called our office with questions regarding damp spots in the new cement. I asked if there was any actual water and the member said no. I explained it takes several weeks for the concrete to fully cure and that he may see some discoloration for that period of time. I asked the member to keep an eye on it and call if there were any further problems and if so we would be more than willing to come out and assist them. As of December 1, 2012 I have heard nothing and assume all is fine.

I've used them before & had good results. This time I just wanted to update the old sump pump I have for peace of mind. We set up Friday Sept. 7 between 1-3 as the time, so I stayed home from work. Nobody showed up & nobody called. It wasn't until I contacted them to complain a few days later (I waited to see if they'd acknowledge me & they didn't, so will never call them again) that they called me w/a half-assed attempt to reschedule. In the meantime I found someone cheaper who will probably show up to actually do the job. I know they do much bigger things than sump pump installations, but they indicated very clearly that my business is no longer important to them (they have my money from a drain tile installation a couple of years ago & apparently don't need me anymore).

We did miss our appointment and for that I truly apologize to this member. I even offered to give this member a $100.00 discount for his inconvenience. On September 5th this member sent us an email stating when he bought his house for years ago his home inspector suggested he keep an eye on the pump considering Standard installed it in 1985 (which is a good life for a pump). The member stated we had done some other work for him and he was very satisfied and wanted us to replace the pump. He also said when he plugged the pump in it would blow a fuse. I suggested we come out immediately because it was unsafe. He said no he would just leave it unplugged. He said he would be home all day on Friday, Sept 7th, so I set up an appointment for between 1:00-3:00pm. Due to an oversight we missed the appointment. This is a very rare thing for us to do. We work hard and take pride in the fact we are very punctual. The member didn’t call us until Saturday, Sept 8th and he left a general message. We do have 24 hour service. If the member would have followed the prompts and pressed 2, I would have gotten the message immediately and called him back. I would have been able to get someone out Friday night or on the weekend. As it was we didn’t get the message and realize the mistake until Monday morning, at which time we immediately called to apologize, offer a discount and reschedule the appointment. The member said he would call back to schedule it. I tried to contact him on Tuesday, Sept 11th and Wednesday, Sept 12th. He sent me an email stating he didn’t follow the prompts on Saturday because he didn’t feel it was an emergency, however apparently by his report it must have been. I think this member is overreacting and we did everything we could to make things right. I don’t know what else we could do.

Since our house is 26 years old and the sub basement is totally underground in clay soil, we have been having some water seepage and recently discovered mildew and a large amount of effervescence after removing the paneling. I contacted three top companies from Angies for estimates. While I typically prefer using small contractors, I was impressed with the thorough estimate, as well as the references list from Standard My basement has no windows in that level, so the crew had to excavate, pail by pail, all the the removed material climbing up a flight of stairs and going through a family room window. I was a bit apprehensive about my family room flooring getting damaged, but the crew covered every inch as well as putting up plastic sheeting covering everything in both the sub basement where they were excavating, as well as my family room area. I found the crew to be extremely efficient, friendly, and thorough. The jack hammering was not as noisy as I anticipated, which as a pleasant surprise. Though the work was grueling, I heard a good deal of laughter coming from downstairs, which is an indication of how well this crew works together. They were very efficient, hard workers. The concrete work was finished this morning by two pleasant men.The work area was left very clean and all sheeting removed and the floor swept. My husband and I are very pleased we chose this company to do the work, and anticipate having a pleasant, dry, usable basement.

We had this work done almost two years ago. Before it was done, we had water in the basement almost every rainfall over an inch. We had tried redoing the landscaping, some roof work on the off chance it was coming in that way, etc -- all to no avail. Standard came in and fixed the problem in one afternoon! We have not had a drop of water inside for two years. In fact, the sump pump hasn't even had to come on because it's draining so well! These workers are a marvel to behold. They had asked us to move everything about two feet from the wall, which we did. They got to the house exactly when they said they would. They covered up all the furniture and boxes with heavy plastic, and within 15 minutes they were jackhammering the basement floor to make a trench about 18" wide. They carried all the concrete and several inches of soil by bucketfuls to their truck. Then they filled up the hole with new soil, small rocks, the piping, etc, and finally laid new concrete over it. Cleaned up the place cleaner that it had been. And they were done in less than 4 hours! I have never seen people work as hard. There were 5 guys and each had his own job and they didn't stop until they were done! I would recommend this company without any hesitation.

We have lived in our house for four years. We have had water in the basement only two times, but we are in the process of finishing the basement and wanted to alleviate any future water problems. We decided to put drain tile and a sump pump on the side of the basement that we have had water problems. Working with Standard Water Control Systems was a very positive experience. Everything was easy and the work was done as they said it would be. They were punctual and called before they were on their way and cleaned up after they were done. I am very pleased with their work. I feel they were very professional in the job they performed from phone calls from the office to the actual crew that came and did the work. Thank you for your hard work.
