Description of Work: We originally chose this contractor due to their eagerness to say they would partner with us during the process and make suggestions that will help us maximize our space and its aesthetics. It seemed this project was one miscommunication after another. There were even times that the quality was low and we were asked to accommodate less than what we ordered to make it easier to fix the problems. Ultimately, this was torn out and fixed, but it wouldn't have been if we hadn't asked for it. The project manager rarely visited the site, therefore, it was up to us to tell him about mistakes rather than him telling us how he would fix it. There are many examples of our frustration, but one is since the walls weren't built out around our hot water pipes, when the pipes expanded, there was a loud clunking in the wall. When asked to fix it, they simply cut a hole in the wall around the pipe. Now, for the rest of our time in the house, there will be a pipe exposed in my closet. We asked for an upgrade to put an access panel to our electrical for our entertainment area on the other side of the wall. Their idea of an access panel was a vent cover screwed into the wall. These are only two examples of times that work was completely, but not to the level of professionalism we had hoped for. We were so disappointed in their work that we are going to sell our home rather than to go through this experience again.

Response from Stonehearth Remodeling & Exteriors
We are very sorry that this client was disappointed. We work very hard to deliver the highest quality work on-time and on-budget. Remodeling is interactive and requires team work between the client and the contractor. In order to minimize delays, it is important to have material selections and the design complete prior to construction. When we first met in August of 2014, we were told that all of the materials had been purchased and/or would be provided prior to project start and a plan was provided to us. Once project work started, it was clear that the materials were either not selected or incomplete or were changed during the course of the project. This created delays and confusion. We worked hard to accommodate our clients wishes; even agreeing to stop the project for several months so they could evaluate other flooring finish options. While we are far from perfect, we were very committed to this project and meeting our clients needs. One example was a willingness to meet on multiple occasions during the evening or on weekends to accommodate our clients work schedules. We also met on New Years Eve at their request so that both clients could be present. As we explained, the plumbing waste line exists in a wall built during the original construction of the home (not by us) and the noise was caused by the expansion of the pipe from hot water, causing the pipe to rub on the framing between the first and second floor. Our licensed plumber confirmed the cause of the problem and we offered to fix this but the offer was declined. Access panels (required either by code or for convenience) are built in different ways but one of the most common is to use a simple cold air return vent cover. This is an inexpensive option and once installed, impossible to differentiate from a real air vent unless it is removed. No alternative method was requested or we would have been happy to provide and install it. As a result of this experience, we implemented several changes to our process. First, we have selection sheets and work with our clients to make sure all selections are detailed and complete prior to starting the project. We also confirm that the selections are available and in-stock. This reduces miscommunication and delays. Second, our project manager provides frequent updates which describe what was completed that day and what is scheduled for the next. In addition, if any hidden conditions were uncovered we explain them in detail and provide recommended solutions. We regret that we were unable to meet all of this clients expectations. With the changes we have made to our system and increased discussion about the expectations for the project and process prior to start, we are confident that future results will be very positive! We would love the opportunity to provide you with a free estimate for your project.

Description of Work: The work was unique. We had our old cedar deck old taken off, basement walkout removed, the basement block wall restored, new retaining wall installed with a new composite deck with aluminum railing.

Description of Work: As first-time remodelers, we wanted to make sure we chose someone we trust to fulfill our vision within our budget and on time. Stonehearth met all of our expectations! Our story starts a few years earlier as we began to put together an idea of how we wanted to remodel the kitchen and bathroom in our 1950s St. Louis Park rambler. After looking through hundreds of ideas, we focused on our final concept. After talking to several contractors, Stonehearth gained our trust and met our budget. Greg and Cathy met with us before work began and explained the entire process. Cathy's design and planning expertise along with Greg's expert crew were soon at work. Gradually we saw our outdated kitchen and bathroom transformed to a beautiful and functional product. With a few adjustments, our vision was realized, and it garnered rave reviews from our family and friends. After getting used to our beautiful remodel, it's hard to remember what our old kitchen and bathroom looked like. We feel humbled and grateful to have our updated home in our lives. So as first-time remodelers, we recommend Stonehearth!

Description of Work: I had this contractor out to my 109 year old farm house to give me some feedback on the cost of insulating it. He was punctual and honest. He said that at this point, the project did not warrant the money it would cost to complete it. I respect a contractor that is frank and honest and is looking out for my best financial interest . I would not hesitate to call him again.

Description of Work: Just started working with them. We started with a new kitchen design and they were extremely helpful with good ideas. I was unable to continue with my kitchen remodel at this time, but when I am ready I will definitely use Stonehearth.

Description of Work: I contacted this provider and the woman who answered the phone was very professional and asked appropriate questions. I was informed the man who does the estimating would call me the next day. About a week later a woman who said she worked in a design capacity called me back to see if we still wanted them to take a look. Of course I said NO. If it takes 8 days for a contact, I can only imagine how the project would go.

We definitely dropped the ball on this one! After a very slow couple of years, things have picked up and we were scrambling to adjust to the increased demand. We have since hired two great people to assist in sales and estimating and will work hard to make sure this doesn't happen again! While we understand your frustration, we would like to offer you a complimentary home maintenance inspection as a "apology" for our slow response. Just call our office at 763-427-7330 to schedule!

They did a great job. The quality of their work was good and their craftsmanship was excellent. They were knowledgeable and their price was reasonable.
