Top Notch Fence

smooth sailing throughout the entire process! communication was excellent; the crew was efficient & thorough; the final outcome is beyond amazing!!! i already was getting many comments on my "cute" house, but now people think the fence is the perfect finishing touch to my "cottage" in the city!

We LOVE our new fence. Rob and the Top Notch team did an excellent job. They were able to start the project on the exact day we wanted them to (our move in date) and they finished the job completely within 4 business days. Rob made sure our property was properly surveyed, and he thoroughly oversaw the work done by his team. He was always available whenever we had questions and was very easy to talk to and transparent about the timeline of the project. We could not be happier with the results and look of our fence.

Such great work! Rob was kind, professional, down to earth and easy to work with. Beautiful fence! He worked with our neighbors to make sure that everyone was ok with the plan and the finished product. We could not have asked for better work or better customer service!

Overall the service provided was good. The fence looks great and it took just a few days to complete. Workers were considerate and polite. They provided extra touches to give the fence a better look. A few boards warped after starting to dry. The company replaced the boards, and left a few extra boards in case needed. Great fence, very good installation and good customer service.

Rob and his crew built us an awesome fence. It looks even better than I had hoped for. There were a couple of tricky spots to make sure the neighbors could keep existing chain-link fence line, and they figured it out... I'm mostly just impressed with how good the fence looks. I went with the post caps to dress it up a little, and Rob suggested I look into the Nuvo Iron gate inserts, which I bought on Amazon and his guys installed at no extra charge. It all looks great. I definitely feel good about going with this company for my fence project.

Rob was really easy to work with on getting the quote. Team was quick to get out to the house and job was finished very fast. Crew had a lot of experience and were really great guys. Did awesome work and the fence looks awesome. We love it!

Top Notch is a small fencing company with (I think) just one crew. They take pride in their work and did a terrific job. Their sales rep, Joe, was very helpful (and patient) as I worked out some final details on a custom gate I wanted them to build. He said the fence should be up by Halloween and indeed they started the project on the 29th and finished it on the 30th. I was a little nervous when they took a half down deposit and I didn't get a receipt or see a final contract. However, I looked at the other Angie's List reviews and figured it would all be okay -- and it was. Joe told me what the extras would cost (custom gate, special latch, window, etc.) and even though it wasn't in writing, there were no surprises. I didn't ding them on this on the report because all the verbal communication had been very prompt and again -- there were no surprises. I wanted a nice fence because it is so visible, and it looks fantastic. The potentially cranky adjacent neighbor loves it and I've had a lot of positive comments on the craftsmanship. I only wish I had had it built years ago..

The overall experience with Top Notch Fence was great. Once they arrived to perform the work they were organized and professional. They did a fantastic job on the fence and we were very happy with the quality. The crew took pride in their work and were talented. They were also friendly and worked well together as a team. We would recommend them to anyone.

Not well. Wish we had gone with another fence company. My husband took off work to meet the crew and set up markers. They did not show day one. Day to we were told they had all gone fishing. Day three my husband finally left and they showed up and did not measure with string. Day four they had to pull the cement posts and re measure, with string, which they should have done from the start. The end result is a very nice fence. The hassle, missed work, mistake that caused issues with our neighbors (understandably) was really not worth it. I would not recommend this company, nice owner, really frustrating experience.

Joe and his team did an exceptional and beautiful job. Their price was better then a competitor and could complete the work in a more timely manner. We had to reschedule a couple of times due to a delay on hour house closing dates but they were gracious and flexible. Joe made a point to contact me several times to let me know how the schedule was going. The team came to our home and had the fence completed in 3 days despite us having to make a change on the design due to a building code issue. After the work, Joe walked me through what they did and showed me the gate operation and approve the overall work. Top Notch Fence is absolutely TOP NOTCH!!! I will definitely use them again to have a fence installed in our front yard in the near future. We, by far, have the nicest, most solidly built and beautiful fence in the neighborhood. I received 4 estimates from different companies. Joe, the salesperson, was by far the most helpful and gave excellent design suggestions. I really wanted something that would be unique yet still fit in with this beautiful neighborhood. So the design element was a big factor. The functionality was equally important because one of my dogs could climb and get over my 4' fence with ease so I needed a higher fence that he couldn't get his feet into. The other concern was airflow. Also I didn't want to cut off my neighbors. I went with 6' semi-private cedar fence on the front and back, wrapping the corners. It's batten board on the bottom 5' and spindles above. The remaining section of the side yards are 6' spindles with alternating picket height. The posts are cut with French Gothic tops. I have 3 gates. One gate has an arbor over it. They used ceramic coated square head screws into the posts. The fence was custom built on site. I'm extremely happy with the results. They worked very hard the entire time they were here. All the guys were fabulous. And the best part for me is I felt they all cared about what they were doing. They delivered precision and quality. They went the extra mile and it shows. Even though they were 3 weeks late in getting to me (hence the "B" rating on punctuality), at the end of the day, they delivered a fence that I LOVE, a fence that the neighbors are equally impressed with, and a fence my parents and friends were blown away by. When you name your company "Top Notch", you right away convey a very high standard. When I hired this company, that was definitely my expectation and Rob, the owner, made sure my project would be just that, top notch. He takes his work very seriously. He has a great group of guys working for him. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. I am happy to refer them out to anyone looking for a new fence. Please have them on your list for one of the companies you call for an estimate. If you want a quality fence that's beautiful as well, I feel you won't be disappointed if you hire them. Worth it!

We got an estimate from Joe-and he called us back several times to see if we had made a decision. When my husband returned his call and asked several questions about some upgrades and better pricing--he said he would check with his boss and get back to us-but he never did.

Joe was extremely responsive, polite and professional. He was responsive by phone and by text. The guys did a great job and it took them just a couple of days. The fence looks gorgeous. They even cleaned up all the weeds and other loose branches that were laying around the fence. We live in uptown Minneapolis, so the area back by the alley can get unkempt. They cleaned everything up and were very pleasant to deal with. Whenever I had questions or was confused about anything, I'd text Joe and he responded right away. I will definitely call them up again if I need anything else done.

We contacted Top Notch Fence after we found them on Angie's List. I had to call back a couple of times because the first time they didn't call back. I understand things can get busy. When Rob did call back we made plans for an estimate. There was no rush given the time of year and I said this to Rob. We made plans for them to come out to do an estimate on Friday 11/14/14 sometime in the afternoon. We never heard from them which was a bit inconvenient because we could have gotten some other things taken care of but I thought that maybe we got our Fridays mixed up and maybe they were supposed to come out the following Friday on 11/21/14 in the afternoon. So I called on Monday 11/17/14 to follow up and see if maybe we did get our Fridays mixed up and make sure we were on for 11/21/14 in the afternoon. I did reach Rob and I asked him if maybe I got my Fridays mixed up because I thought he was supposed to come out this last Friday in the afternoon and we never heard from him. He said something to affect of "I don't know let me check my schedule books and call you back" I said "OK" and waited for him to call back. He never called and I haven't heard from him since. I am taken quite by surprise by how often this happens up around here in this area. I am a nice person and I ask these companies up front if they service our area BEFORE I ask them to come give us an estimate. I just moved here from out of state and I didn't expect it to happen as often as it does. I'm not mean, rude or anything of that nature, some people have even said I'm too nice. If these companies don't want our business or don't want to come do an estimate for one reason or another I really wish they would just be honest, come right out and say it to us. Don't waste our time or yours. We have been trying to get estimates for our roof, wood floors, a fence, insulation, plumbing, and electric and we also got them for the carpet we recently had put in. This has happened more times than I can count with companies not returning calls, not showing up after they made an appointment with us, not getting back to us with an estimate etc from each of these areas. I was telling my husband it must be nice to have so much business and to be making or have so much money that as a company you can just blow off customers. Even if you don't want a customer's business at least try to be somewhat professional about it and follow up.

Rob, owner, was very responsive from the start. He answered my call in a timely fashion and showed up on time for our scheduled estimate. Throughout the entire process, Rob and his crew were professional and took extra time to help me with the best layout of my fencing and placement of gates. While there was a mishap along the way, Rob handled the situation with swiftness and honesty, something that I hold in the highest regard. Overall, Rob and his crew were dedicated in making a high quality fence that they were proud of and that I liked. I would hire them again.

Excellent! I had several received several quotes. Rob's price per foot was in line with others; however he was much more precise in his measuring making the quote more reasonable. Giving 4 companies the same description, Rob came closest to the footage I calculated based of my own measuring and plot. Others were 20 - 30 feet off which is a signification cost difference. This is the reason I chose Rob. Rob's insistence on doing the job right saved me a future headache. The back corner of my lot is in the middle of a pond. I could not find the property stakes in my yard. I measured and it appeared my irrigation line was inside my property by a foot. Rob wasn't comfortable measuring based on the plot drawing. He got a surveyor out and we found the stakes. Turns out my builder installed my sod and irrigation line on the neighboring property - in one spot over 3 feet off my property. In the end, the fence was changed. It ended up shorter, different shape, and an additional gate. Rob and his team were very accommodating and made sure I understood and was happy with all aspects of the project. They took great care in digging the posts and not one sprinkler head/line was damaged. Having a brand new home, I have had my share of learning experiences with contractors. I am picky and would not give a recommendation lightly. That said, I am very happy with my experience with Top Notch Fence.

I wanted a privacy fence to limit contact between my new neighbor's dogs and my dogs. I also wanted ideas to fence in a portion of my back yard so I could let my dogs go"out" the door freely verses on a leash. Rob, owner of Top Notch Fence co, was 1 of 4 fence estimates I received. It was simple to reach Rob by phone and set up an estimate as he offered a few options within the week and was ready to work around my schedule too so . He was on time, appeared professional and confident, and brought a picture book to review his products. He didn't mind I had a lot of questions and concerns since this was the 1st time I shopped for fencing and I didn't know what I wanted. He pointed out good options to address fencing for my dogs. I proceeded gathering estimates the next 6 weeks before I contacted him to return to install the privacy fence. He returned to update my fence plans the next day. He scheduled a 2 man crew to put up the fence within 2 weeks. The 2 installers called 1 hr before arrival as planned. The exact location of the fence was determined where I wanted with a survey we reviewed and the job completed the fence in 3 hours. A lot physical work digging, mixing cements, moving dirt. and assembling the fence panels. They kept me in the loop from start to finish which I appreciated. Very nice team, polite

I'm glad I was able to see the way the company functions ahead of hiring them, as it seems obvious that it saved me a huge headache dealing with them.

Rob gave us a target date of approximately three weeks from the date of signing the deal. I choose "Top Notch" fence because of the quality that I thought they would deliver, but it was also a plus that they were the lowest bid I received. He and his staff arrived when they said they would and did a quick job of dismantling and hauling away the old fence. The fence was completed in just a couple of days, allowing for the cement to cure for the posts. The fence looks amazing and we have received several compliments from neighbors. They made a special effort to come out and complete the fence on the 4th of July so we could have in place for the holiday weekend. Rob and the crew were very professional, easy to work with and responded positively to any special requests that we had. I would highly recommend "Top Notch" for you fencing needs.

Rob and his team were awesome. Rob offered me the best price amongst his competitors and was very flexible in planning the project. Rob was always in contact with me. When some things had to be changed due to constrained resources or time, he always offered a better alternative with no change to the cost of the project. The fence looks great and feels like its going to last a lifetime. I'm very glad I went with Top Notch Fence and I would recommend then to anyone.

I first contacted Top Notch Fence through a message on Angie's List along with three other companies. This was the only company I am still waiting for a response from. After a week I called the number provided on Angie's list. The voicemail greeting identifies the person, but made it very unclear whether it was actually for this company. Either way the voicemail box was full so still no direct contact. I visited the company website which provided two other numbers to contact. Both alternate phone numbers are disconnected. Apparently this person is either on vacation or does not want to be bothered with new business, or both. Either way it gives me doubts about the quality of this company and at this point any response from them is meaningless.
