Trying to find a reputable mover who returned calls/emails was proving problematic. This was prior to signing up with Angie's List and my experience with this mover was a prime reason why I signed up! When I initially called "2 Men" Dan was very helpful and eager to please. Having made the booking, I learned this company has a bit of a (bad) reputation, so I called Dan back. He assured me they'd been in the moving business a long time and I'd be delighted with their service. So I kept the booking and hoped for the best. Bad move! The 2 man crew arrived on time and were polite and courteous. However, chatting with them revealed moving is a part time gig for them, i.e. they are NOT professional movers who do this for a living. Trust me on this, hiring movers is not just about buying extra pairs of hands to physically move stuff. It's about moving, packing, protecting, securing and transporting your stuff in a caring and competent manner. They seemed to know what they were doing. They wrapped stuff, moved stuff out the house and generally had an air of 'we got this'. At our destination it was a different story. Most things came into the house and were placed in the correct room without incident. However, my expensive, solid wood bed arrived badly damaged. The corner of the foot board had not been adequately protected nor stored in the truck correctly. As a result, some of the wood had worn away! I'm not talking a scratch or two that could be polished out. I'm talking the wood had gone! The type of damage clearly showed neglect and incompetence. Upon seeing the damage, one of the movers offered me a paltry sum of money as compensation! The way it was done too suggested he really couldn’t care less that he’d badly damaged my property. I was furious and declined his pathetic offer. The other mover asked me where I wanted an end table he was holding. I told him to put it where he stood which he did, but not before gouging a hole in my dry wall. I stood there and watched him do it and he walked past me as if nothing had happened. It was one of those times where you can’t quite believe what you’ve just seen! Apparently they have an “excellent furniture guy” who could make it all better. Ask yourself why they’d need an “excellent furniture guy” on call. Randy called me within the allotted time frame and basically said if I couldn’t meet him at my house almost immediately (it was a weekday and I was at work!), then I was “SOL” because he was going out of town for a few weeks. Seriously, he actually said that! We agreed for him to call me back when he was back in town to arrange an appointment to work on my bed. Do you think he did? Can you see where this is going? I called the “2 Men” office and reported all this to the owner. He said he’d look into it and call me back. Do you think he did? Eventually I contacted the corporate office and spoke to someone in their quality/customer care department. She was patient and kind and absolutely appalled by what I had to tell her. She said she’d light a fire under these people and asked me to call back if I didn’t hear from them. She was good to her word as 20 minutes later the owner of the Burnsville “2 Men” called me. I had to listen to the usual ‘we’re so sorry’ rubbish and 10 minutes after that Randy the furniture guy called. Randy did an amazing job repairing my bed’s foot board. Credit where credit is due. No one ever mentioned the gouge in my dry wall so I suppose I’m just expected to live with that damage. As the weeks have passed, I’ve noticed countless dings, dents and scrapes to many of my other furniture items. Blemishes I know were not there before I moved. Bottom line: The “2 Men” tag line is “Movers who care”. Erm…no they don’t. I used a different company to move all my worldly possession from Houston, TX to Apple Valley, MN. Not a scratch. These clowns moved a fraction of what I own from one side of the Twin Cities to the other and it was a disaster. My advice? Avoid like the plague unless you want your stuff damaged by a bunch of part timers who don’t give a hoot about you or your stuff.
Description of Work: Moved all my heavy/awkward items from my house in Apple Valley to my new home in Ham Lake. For example, bed, sofa, kitchen table, etc. I moved everything else (about 90% of what I own) by myself.

Excellent. They arrived on time, in morning rush hour traffic in the rain. They worked hard, asked clarifying questions, and went above and beyond their scope to move xtra large heavy items out of Basement. They were willing to try anything to accomplish what I asked. These 2 men were very professional and knew how to do what needed to be done. Whether it was taking of doors, careful to move around corners, etc. When done asked if there was anything else that I needed. Well worth the $.
Description of Work: Hired a 2 man team, with one weeks notice, to move heavy items out of home to get rid of, then moved a few items to another home 18 miles away.

It went ok. There were a few discrepancies from our original reservation. We made the reservation over the phone, thoroughly discussing all of the little details. We inquired about their ability to and experience with piano moving. We were assured that all of their guys would be competent with piano moving. There was an additional flat rate charge of $80 for moving the piano. We were advised to reserve three guys, instead of just two guys, as we were having a piano moved. So, we reserved three guys (there is no appreciable cost difference as three guys cost a higher rate but are supposed to be able to do the work more quickly). On moving day, we got only two guys. We were concerned about the piano, but were assured by the lead guy that "only two guys can move a piano anyway" and "the third guy wouldn't be able to help with the piano" and "we'll be able to do it, no problem." As we were closing on two houses and moving all in one day, things were hectic. We had a deadline. We trusted them. In the end, they moved us successfully. It did take them a long time to deal with the piano, and while we paid a flat rate, we also paid for the time it took. And it was pretty scary to watch them move the piano. We almost stopped them halfway, and then it didn't look like they were going to get it up the ramp without injury to themselves and/or the piano. It was heart-stopping. They did some arguing throughout the process, and the lead decided they shouldn't use the long straps- even though the other guy insisted they should. They weren't as experienced as we believed they would be. And only two guys showed up when we reserved three, and we had confirmed our reservation just days before the move. While we got moved, it was really stressful.

They arrived on time. They were mostly careful with the move (one piece of heavy wooden furniture lifted from the top, so it shred the wood where the screw was). All of my glass material (china hutch, lawyer's bookshelf) arrived unbroken. However, I had only two rooms of furniture to move, and it took them six hours to do this. I felt they milked their hourly rate. My mistake was not getting a written estimate. We thought we had cleared what the expectations for packing the truck, driving 1.5 hours and unpacking the truck, but what we ended up being charged did not reflect what we were told over the phone. I did have another moving company come out and give me an estimate, and I wish now I had gone with their services because at least I would not have been completely mislead.

They mis-estimated the trips needed to move me, and therefore only got 7/8 of my stuff moved. The guy did not want to come back and finish the job. I wound up hiring trucks to do it myself. This was my second mediocre experience with them. I would not use them again.

Two movers arrived promptly, after driving from Apple Valley to Austin. They loaded the truck quickly and well and were pleasant and very careful. They were polite and respectful to my elderly father and went out of their way to be accommodating. They unloaded in Bloomington just as efficiently. The entire job took 7 1/2 hours and cost less than estimated.

THEY PICKED UP OUR FURNITURE AT THE WRONG TIME. THEY ALSO BROUGHT TOO MANY GUYS FOR THE MOVE SO THEY BILLED US EXTRA FOR THAT. THEY ALSO GOT LOST TRYING TO FIND OUR NEW HOUSE AND THEY BILLED US FOR THE TIME THEY SPENT LOOKING FOR IT. PLUS, THEY WERE LAZY AND SLOW, WHICH IS REALLY BAD FOR MOVERS. THEIR INVOICE WAS WRONG ALSO AND IT TOOK A WHILE TO FIGURE THAT OUT. WE WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

THIS WAS A VERY PROFESSIONAL AND DEDICATED COMPANY. THE TWO YOUNG MEN DID AN ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT JOB. THE OFFICE STAFF AT THE EDEN PRARIE OFFICE WAS ALSO VERY EASY TO WORK WITH. I ARRANGED FOR THE MOVE AS MY HUSBAND WAS BUSY PREPARING FOR A CONVENTION HIS SMALL NONPROFIT OFFICE PUTS ON ANNUALLY (MIDWEST COMMUNICATION CONCLAVE) FOR ABOUT 800 PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN THE MUSIC AND RADIO INDUSTRIES. AS A TEACHER, I HAD MOST OF MY SUMMER FREE. WE NEEDED TO WAIT UNTIL THE CONVENTION WAS OVER, AND COULDN'T PACK PRIOR TO THE WEEKEND OF THE CONVENTION BECAUSE MATERIALS WERE NEEDED. WE ALSO WANTED TO MOVE AND BE SETTLED SO TOM AND I COULD GO ON A MUCH NEEDED SUMMER WEEK-LONG VACATION IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE MOVE. THIS COMPANY WORKED WITH ALL OF OUR REQUESTS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS REASONABLY PRICED AND VERY PROFESSIONAL MOVERS.
Description of Work: THE TWO MEN AND A TRUCK COMPANY BRANCH FROM EDEN PRARIE SENT TWO YOUNG MEN TO MOVE AN OFFICE FROM THE 3RD FLOOR TO THE FIRST FLOOR OF AN OFFICE BUILDING IN ST. LOUIS PARK. THEY WERE TOLD OF THE VERY ADVERSE CONDITIONS: NO ELEVATOR, HOT HOT HALLWAYS AND STEPS TO HAND MOVE 3 ROOMS, PLUS STORAGE AREAS FROM OFFICE TO OFFICE. THESE GENTLEMEN WORKED NONSTOP IN THE HEAT ONLY STOPPING TO DRINK BECAUSE I FORCED THEM TO. THEY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB, LITERALLY RUNNING UP THE STEPS BACK TO THE 3RD FLOOR AFTER EVERY LOAD WAS CAREFULLY PLACED IN THE NEW FIRST FLOOR OFFICE SPACE.

THEY WERE INEXPERIENCED, SULLEN AND DISRESPECTFUL. BEFORE THEY MOVED ONE ANTIQUE PIECE OF FURNITURE, WE TOLD THEM SPECIFICALLY NOT TO SET IT DOWN ON ONLY TWO LEGS AND THEN LOWER IT, BECAUSE THE LEGS WOULD BREAK OFF. THEY DID IT ANYWAY, AND SURE ENOUGH A LEG BROKE. THEY TRIED TO GET OUT OF FIXING IT BECAUSE THEY SAID IT HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY BROKEN AND REPAIRED. WELL, YES, IT'S AN ANTIQUE. AFTER MUCH NAGGING AND THREATS, THEY RELUCTANTLY HAD SOMEONE FIX IT.

THEY WORKED HARD, BUT WERE CARELESS WITH SOME ITEMS. SOME ITEMS WERE WRAPPED VERY WELL, OTHERS WERE NOT. THEY DID NOT WRAP ALL THE FURNITURE AS PROMISED, AND TWO PIECES WERE DAMAGED AS A RESULT. ONE THEY TRIED TO FIX, AND DID A FAIR JOB. THE OTHER PIECE THEY WOULD NOT FIX BECAUSE I DIDN''T SEE IT UNTIL AFTER THE 72 HOUR LIMIT. IF YOU USE THIS COMPANY, WATCH THEM CAREFULLY TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS WRAPPED, AND DO A THOROUGH INSPECTION OF ALL FURNITURE IMMEDIATELY. THEY WERE ALSO NOT VERY CREATIVE IN FITTING FURNITURE THROUGH THE DOORS. THEY TOLD ME A DESK WOULD NOT FIT THROUGH A CERTAIN AREA. WHEN I TOLD THEM TO TRY IT ON ITS SIDE, IT WENT THROUGH WITHOUT A PROBLEM. I EXPECT PROFESSIONAL MOVERS TO BE BETTER.

THEY WERE CARELESS WITH OUR FURNITURE, HITTING WALLS AND DOORFRAMES ON THE WAY OUT OF THE HOUSE. THEY DID SLIGHT DAMAGE TO A COUPLE OF PIECES OF FURNITURE IN THE VERY SHORT DRIVE (1 MILE). EVEN THOUGH ALL THE BOXES WERE CLEARLY MARKED AS TO WHERE THEY WERE TO GO AND WHETHER THEY WERE FRAGILE, MANY BOXES ENDED UP IN THE WRONG ROOM. THERE WERE VERY HEAVY ITEMS STACKED ON OUR CHINA BOXES WHICH WERE MARKED EXTREMELY FRAGILE. AND BOXES THAT WERE CLEARLY MARKED THIS SIDE UP WERE PUT ON THEIR SIDE. I WOULDN''T RECOMMEND THEM. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH WHAT WE PAID.
