Top Choice Lawn Care

I'm absolutely pleased with them. Our lawn never looked so good. We planted all the grass here when we bought this property in 1969, over the years they take care of the lawn, and it really looked so good with their care. They are the fourth company that i've tried, nobody did a job like this folks do.

Hired this company 3 years ago in part to due their hall of happiness rating on Angies List. Their pricing was good. They seemed to be a no nonsense upfront company. Just what I wanted for lawn care. The first year was good and all looked good. At the end of two years the lawn was looking a bit thin. Year 3 was last year. The grass was looking thin. Weeds were settling in with the grass. Creeping charley was making a strong comeback. After fertilization the yard was streaky. Mid summer the service man made an application using a lawn tractor on a saturated lawn leaving track marks all over the yard. After that treatment the lawn pretty much fizzled. We cancelled our service. Half our lawn is dead and our yard has never looked worse.

Professional, courteous company. Always received a call the day prior to service. Always did a thorough job. Had problems with some tough weeds.

The quotes they give are competitive and their service is good. They have friendly staff and they are responsive.

They were fine. I wish they gave me more warning before they come out. The price seemed to be competitive with all the places I called. I want them to give me more warning because I don't necessarily want my dog out when they are there or I want different arrangements made for my dog.

Very responsive on initial estimate and also on the two times I asked them for additional feedback on our lawn. They called before they came each time. And their pricing was very competitive, with the Angie's list discount.

The guys came and did the aeration promptly with no fanfare. All look good.

They came on the date that they scheduled and have been out for services appropriately. They always leave notices on the lawn for our pets as well as a statement on the door.

Person spoke to on phone as well as estimate rep gave NO communication or heads up that they could not do what I wanted done this fall. It might be a bit late and it might be a bit cool out right now BUT I WILL BE FERTILIZING MY YARD THIS SATURDAY for it's winter treatment.

Overall it was good. However we had an issue where they hit my trees about 3-4 off the ground killing sides of 5 of my bushes and one of my pine tress. They did compensate me for the month's application because of the error and talked with the person who did the application to be more careful. I didn't expect the refund but just asked for them to be careful. I would submit a bill to them if I had to replace the bushes. They ended up coming back and the company issued a refund check which was honorable in my eyes.

My experience was okay. I had some problems. They came out, they sprayed weeds and I had told them that I didn’t have some soil in the back of my house. It’s on a hill and there’s landscaping there, but it’s been over run by weeds. I specifically requested that they provide an estimate for that and they never did. When they came out the final time, they didn’t provide an estimate, but the guy just told me that they can’t spray because it’s a wooded area. He recommended that I go there myself, round up and spray the weed which was not what I was looking for. Otherwise, everything went well. I would probably not use them again in the future.

We have used other services in the past and have been satisfied with Top Choice.They are prompt and courteous.They treat our lawn about once/month. Our lawn is doing pretty well although it's always hard to say exactly who to credit for that! We have not called on them for any particular issues outside of routine services.

On June 1, a technician from Top Choice treated my yard with fertilizer and herbicide. In the yard were also 3 raised beds - 2 of the beds contained basil, peppers and tomatoes. The third bed contained perennials. Within a few days of the Top Choice treatment of our lawn with herbicide, the tomatoes, peppers and basil started showing signs of damage. They appeared wilted and in serious decline - much the same as the creeping charlie that was treated in the lawn at the same time. On the tomatoes, the leaf petioles were twisting, the stems were bumpy and gnarled, blossoms dried up and dropped off, and the leaves were cupping; on the peppers, the blossoms were shriveling and starting to turn black and the leaves were drooping and curling. Winds on the day of treatment were recorded on my Top Choice receipt at 8mph that day, windy enough to cause drift of the herbicide sprayed on my lawn. On June 6, I called Top Choice to discuss possible herbicide damage. In response to my concerns, their technician came out on June 8 to evaluate my plants. His conclusion was that it was not herbicide damage but transplant shock & extreme heat. As far as transplant shock, I transplanted my seedlings to the garden early the week of May 16 so they had been in the ground and doing well for about 2 weeks before Top Choice sprayed, so I think transplant shock is unlikely. And, while there was at least one day of extreme heat during the week after treatment, there was little improvement weeks after the return visit by the technician on June 8. My plants continued to show damage - twisted leaf petioles, shriveled, blackened blossoms, cupping of leaves and general failure to thrive and I was eventually forced to replace at least half of the peppers and basil. On June 14, I requested information from Top Choice about what herbicide was used so that I could determine whether it was likely that my plants would survive or whether to tear them out. To give Top Choice credit, I received the product label from them on June 16. Finally, on June 20, with no noticeable improvement in the condition of my plants and nothing more from Top Choice, I called them to tell them I wanted to terminate my seasonal contract with them and to request a refund. This was granted without question but I felt that under the circumstances, they should have followed up with me to see if the issue had been resolved satisfactorily. All this has been particularly disappointing as I started all my seeds indoors in March - as I do every year. While I was able to replant with varieties available locally, the unique and different varieties I started myself were not available locally. I’ve been an avid and experienced gardener for many years and have also earned a Master Gardener certificate. I may not be an expert in herbicides, but I’m not a novice gardener either and feel certain that the damage to my plants was from herbicide damage.

They do a fine job, but I don’t know if there is anything noteworthy. I have not really used anybody else, so I have nothing to compare them to. I am not sure how to grade their price or professionalism. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

Our lawn was in bad shape but their services have helped the lawn look much better. They have come out several times throughout the year, performing various services.

When I originally investigated this service I called around and they were not only prompt in calling me back, but they only company that responded to my inquiry. They have been consistent, professional and I have seen an improvement in my lawn. I appreciate their seasonal tips and reminders as well.

Everything including their punctuality was pretty good. The staff’s professionalism and friendliness were good too. The price was reasonable. I would rate them highly and may use them again in the future if necessary.

So far they have been very responsive and timely. I will use them in future.

I had a packed deal with them and pre pay for it. The experience with them was fine. I wasn’t very impressed with their services. I changed companies since last year as I had to be on it all the time and I told what I needed and stuff. I think it is minimalistic and I don’t think they follow up and stuff so I won’t use them again. I debated the first time they came out as they had less time when they came out. They were less money but I was concerned that they were coming out for less time and I felt that they needed to come out few more times. The last time they came out I had to call them as I didn’t know whether they had put wet fertilizer as usually we can tell it is granular because there will be granules everywhere. But last time there wasn’t anything and there was liquid everywhere which was kind of odd on the leaves and stuff. I just don’t think that I had got the services I wanted. Their price was fair as it wasn’t too expensive or too cheap. They came out when I called them.

They did a perfect job. You will not find anyone better.

Things started to go downhill in 2010. It is worse this year (2011). By the time they came out, crab grass was established. They seem late with every treatment. I don't think their chemicals are the same quality anymore. Phone calls aren't returned. The person on the other end of the phone is polite but indifferent. We will be taking our business elsewhere. I have to wonder along with the other reviewers here: Was there a change? Did a son take over Dad's business or something? It is sad.

I contacted Top Choice. They gave me a fair price and an Angie's list discount. The employee that came out did a great job and was very helpful and polite.

This is the 2nd year that we've used Top Choice for our lawn treatment. When they started, our lawn was in pretty bad shape - a lot of weeds. By fall it looked pretty good. This year, however, they have not been as diligent in weed treatment. But in July someone did specially treat weeds and that helped a lot. Last year the technician would make comments on the sheet they leave each visit but this year there are no comments. I know this year's weather is not the greatest for lawns but I think their service has declined a little. They do give us an Angie's List discount so I think their price is reasonable. I wish they would make recommendations if they think we should do something differently to help our lawn be healthier.

I'm going to have to agree with the poster from 6/26/2011 regarding the recent changes to Top Choice service. It's feels like an entirely different company, just with the same name. I've used them the past several years and they have been fantastic. I credit Top Choice with assisting in making my lawn one of the best on the block! The previous home owners I purchased from neglected to perform any maintenance and it was simply a weedy mess. Top Choice came out systematically, called each time the day before so I could be prepared for the application, even came out at my request the very next day and spot sprayed all the pesky Splurge weeds in the front. This year however (2011) has me perplexed. The first application was so late the crab grass was well into it's growing season. Here we are now July 11th, 2011 and I had no idea when (if?) they were coming out for application #2. (I use in past tense because I canceled further services this afternoon) I thought it was to be applied no later then the last day of June. So, I did call today to cancel services and the gal who answered the phone said, quote, "OK, thank you!" That was it, just a thank you when I requested cancelation. Did Dad pass the business to his son who is not experienced? Did the owner from 2002 through 2010 sell it? Anyway, I'll finish out the remaining applications this year myself and look elsewhere for 2012.

. I was not around when they came to do the aeration. They were reliable. They do what they are supposed to do. They just come turn the lawn around. As far as the punctuality they did not come out on the day they were supposed to. I would have appreciated if they just given me a call and told me that the weather was bad. It was I who figured out why they did not come, as it was wet the previous night. It would have been nice if they had called that day when they were supposed to be there.
