Jon was very upfront with the cost and time it would take to fix on the day it was ready, we picked it up. He explained what he did throughly. The computer works great.
Description of Work: Our HP notebook was dropped and the power cord would no longer attach to the computer. The case was cracked. Jon salved stored where appropriate. The computer works well.

He was prompt, his work was excellent, I got to keep the entire contents of my hard drive (including the notoriously difficult to transfer iTunes library,) and the work was done in about a week (I told him to take his time as it wasn't urgently required.) I had one question when I got it home about hooking up the monitor (the connection was different with the newly installed hardware) which he answered promptly over the phone, and I have had no further problems with the machine: it runs extremely fast, and hasn't had any operating issues since I got it back from Jon. (As a bonus he was able to fix a DVD burning problem while he had the machine apart.) I was totally pleased with Jon and Custom PC Solutions, and will definitely use his services again in the future (in fact, I have to now take him my laptop which has a cracked screen.) Jon charges a very reasonable price, is very responsive, and really knows his stuff. I recommend him without reservation.
Description of Work: I had a five year old Velocity Micro PC that was very high end when I bought it. Although I am generally good about backing stuff up, one day without warning the PC died (not even the bluescreen of death; just died.) Geeksquad wanted an outrageous amount to diagnose and fix what they thought the problem was and told me that I would necessarily lose my data in the disc reformatting that would be necessary. I called Jon and made arrangements to take the computer to his Burnsville location; he listened to the exact nature of the problem and to my desires for data recovery. I took the computer to him and dropped it off: I have another PC so I told him it wasn't urgent but my concern was that it be done correctly. He called back in two days with a diagnosis and a list of options and prices. I chose the middle-of-the road restoration and new motherboard (which was the ultimate point of failure) along with a new DVD burner as my old one wasn't compatible with the new motherboard. There were several other parts that needed replacing too, but I can't recall exactly what they were: they were all very reasonably priced I thought. For rebuilding the entire machine, reinstalling Windows and other vital programs, copying my hard drive to an external hard drive, and all the parts and labor involved the price was about $560, and worth every penny.

+ -1 moreMy computer died suddenly and unexpectedly, it wouldn't boot up at all, just the "blue screen of death". I called Custom PC Solutions, he offered to come to my house and repair it or pick it up the next day, but since I live fairly close, I dropped it off instead. It was repaired and ready for me to pick up the next day. It not only booted up much faster than before, it also runs much faster, even faster than when brand new. All my data files were recovered - I didn't lose anything !! Also gave me excellent advice regarding options to back up my data and the best anti virus software to use. Definitely will use again for periodic "tune ups" and any problems that might occur, and would recommend to friends, acquaintences, and anyone !!
Description of Work: Replaced defective memory, repaired corrupted files, cleaned registry, optimized performance, removed all the original "trial" and unnecessary software, and installed new antivirus software.

He restalled my sound and printer, but I didn't have the disk so he have to get it off the internet and it took longer to download. It took him hour and half to get my computer running great. He came back in a few days and added more memory. I will be calling him to setup a free Virus package. He made two trips to my house and I got my money worth

When he brought my computer back, he hooked it back up to make sure it was running properly and gave me some good advice on future computer issues. I'll definitely call Jon again if I have any more problems.

+ -1 moreI called Jon and left him a voice mail. He called me back the same day. I told him what was happening with my PC and he recommended reloading the system. We figured out a day and time for him to pick up the PC. After the call, I called my wife and told her what I found out. As she is a teacher and was getting ready for the start of the school year, she said she would like the PC to remain at home for at least 1 more week. I called Jon back and we rescheduled the pick up time. He was very understanding!! The pickup time was noon and Jon was right on time. He took the PC and some of my disks and said he would have it ready by Tuesday. This was Friday. He left me a voice mail on Sunday asking me to call him. I called on Monday and he gave me the details of the repair. He was done. We agreed on Tuesday at 5 pm as the drop off time. Again, Jon was on time and delivered my PC. I told him I would hook everything back up and asked if he had time for a couple of questions. He not only had time, he gave me some great advice!! I would definitely call Jon if I have any computer problems in the future!!

+ -1 moreJon answered my phone call on the first attempt, and was able to meet an appointment date that I requested. On the scheduled day, Jon called to say he had finished a job early and could come about 20 minutes earlier than our appointment, and asked if that was acceptable. Once Jon was there, he reinstalled the original router and got my wireless working on my 2 home computers. We are not sure what caused the original problem but he assured me that at least right now, I didn't need the new router (a $60 expense that I didn't need, and hopefully can recoup!). When Jon became aware that my current security software was up for renewal, he also advised me of a free, seemingly better, security program, saving me $50 in renewal fees. He downloaded and set that up on my 2 computers as well. The whole appointment was just over an hour, costing me $100, which was made up in what Jon saved me in unnecessary hardware and software expenses!
Description of Work: My wireless router suddenly stopped working. I was initially informed by my carrier that I needed a new router, which I purchased and installed. Still did not work. After paying a colleague to come look at it (and not resolve the problem!), I consulted Angie's List. I chose Custom PC due to the location and consistently high ratings.

He had it back in 1 business day with it running like new. He also followed up several days later to make sure it was still running OK. Another company would have cost $200+.
Description of Work: John found certain programs that were causing the computer to run so slow it was basically unusable. Installed different anti-virus software that doesn't use as much system resource.

The lines of communication are streamlined and the responsiveness is typically better. This was my experience with Jon. He picked up my PC in a mutual location and I picked it up in another mutual location. Informality and flexibility facilitated this business transaction. He tried to repair my original hard drive. However he was unsuccessful. Although I am disappointed, he installed a new hard drive, loaded up the op system with virus protection freeware, and returned it to me within 48 hours. He also called me within 6 hours with a diagnosis. He suggested specific solutions for extracting the information on my original hard drive.
Description of Work: Jon installed a new hard drive on my residential PC. He also loaded Windows XP op system and virus protection.

However, he did refer us to a company that could (and did) retrieve the files by opening the hard drive in a clean room. Jonathan didn't charge us for unnecessary work, and recommends only what is needed for the situation.
Description of Work: My windows XP PC crashed and would not successfully restart. I was really concerned about saving the data on the PC.

Description of Work: My laptop had crashed. I checked Angie's List for someone to repair my computer. Jon Rolla, Custom PC Solutions, was on the list and in the area I live. I called, left a voicemail, and Jon returned my call almost immediately. I explained what had happened with my computer, and was told to bring it right over. This was late on a Friday afternoon. Around noon the following day, Saturday, Jon called and explained to me what had happened with my computer and what my options were. I opted at that point to purchase a new laptop and paid Jon his fee (nominal) for his time to take it apart and figure out what was wrong with the laptop.
