The provider informed me that due to the amount of damage to the dressers, it was going to require them to do extra work that fell outside the scope of the Big Deal. This extra work would also be fairly expensive so I have decided to put the project on hold for now. I have contacted Angie's List in order to get a refund of the Big Deal purchase. They were very professional and responsive, my dressers just require a lot of work.

After the company did not show up on the day set for the service, I called them. They advised they had no record of the request. After three (3) discussions with them (I called them) they decided they could not perform the furniture restoration service I had paid for as it was not worth their time! (I was hoping to have my teak dining room table (48") refinished or at least a couple of spots repaired) The representative from Ackerman was very blunt, rude and unpleasant; I would not ever want to deal with this organization if he represents them!

Additional fees would be involved in the job. Regluing a dining room chair would be over $200. The prices for their services are too high, so I would like to get a refund for the deal.

Received estimate for reglueing chair that was substantially higher than actual cost of the work. For this reason it was not possible to use the Big Deal. Work was done to our satisfaction and we paid cash.

Our beautiful Henredon table was damaged due to leakage from the ceiling above it. We researched furniture refinishers and learned about Ackerman fFurniture Service from Angie's List. Ackerman's service was very prompt and professional. When I first called to inquire, they gave me an estimate over the phone, which was nice. One thing I really like about them is that refinishing is not something they do as a sideline - it IS their business. John Ackerman himself came to our home to evaluate the damage. They took our table and delivered it back before their due date. The table is absolutely beautiful! Even though it is almost 20 years old, it looks brand new. We are very happy with their service!
Description of Work: Refinished our dining room table.

Our insurance company (USAA) referred us to Ackerman's to repair several pieces of furniture including a chest, desk and chair that were family antiques. The also needed to build a new footboard (teak veneer over particle board) for a trundle bed that was damaged beyond repair. John and his associates responded promptly to our initial call, picked up the furniture as scheduled and had it completed by the time the water-damaged room was restored. The quality of the work was outstanding. The pieces all look like new and there is no evidence of the water lines on the restored pieces. The rebuilt footboard was a perfect match for the one it replaced. Ackerman's may not be the least expensive folks doing this sort of work, but their quality and professionalism is outstanding. I'd not hesitate to call them again if I need a piece of furniture restored or replaced.

Very responsive and prompt to provide estimate and then to pick up pieces and perform the refinishing. The price is a little higher than other services, but the work is superb. My father used to run a moving company and Ackerman's did all repairs on any damaged furniture for decades, including our personal irreplaceable pieces.

Excellent! The tables were carefully stripped of their old finishes, the joints were reglued, they were carefully restained, and refinished. They look absolutely perfect and are beautiful to behold. They quite literally look like they just came out of a showroom. These tables have great sentimental value, and I was willing to pay for quality refurbishment and refinishing. Acherman's did a fabulous job at a reasonable price given all the steps that went into this, as the tables are of complex design. They picked up and delivered for free and are clearly my only choice for my future furniture refinishing and restoration needs. I shopped this time exclusively on quality and not price; I don't know what others would have charged but do know that no one could have done a better job. I highly recommend Ackerman's!
Description of Work: Two antique cherry end tables were hand stripped, reglued, restained, and refinished. These tables were moderately ornate and were a challenge to refinish evenly.

I left a message and had someone (a male) call me back. Explained the situation. They took the details and my name and phone # and city. I didn't receive a callback. I called again and spoke to someone else. I did receive a callback but they didn't want to come 30 miles to the north without another appt. in the area. I thought it was dumb as they would get paid for the estimate but let it go. Another week passed and I had to call them again. No they were not going to be in my area soon. Waited another week and recalled them. They wanted to know when I would be available-- any day BUT Friday. I got a call thet they would be in my area on Friday and made arrangements for my mom to be at my home. as I thought about it, I decided this was my issue and my estimate and not a good idea to ask my mom to deal with them so I cancelled. I restated NO Fridays. Got a call the next week, they were available on Friday. I called the manager (female) and explained to her my story and told them they had lost my business.

Seat cushions were becoming too soft so we called Gabbert's Furniture store and they recommended Ackerman's. Instead of using new springs and cushions, they recommended adding foam to the cushions to make them more firm. The results were great so we had the dining room chairs fixed by the same method. Also, one dining roome chair had a puncture in the cane back and they said they could repair that too. Very happpy with the results

When I dropped off the piano bench, Ackerman's was very helpful in describing what they would be able to do. They also had a large selection of new material from which to select for the upholstery and offered several different techniques at different price points. The shocker was the price. Although they were very clear regarding what the entire job would cost, it felt extremely high as I felt I could purchase a brand new piano bench for a fraction of this cost. Given my busy schedule and the fact that this bench matched a piano for which I felt a very high sentimental value, I reluctantly agreed. I was told the bench would be done in 3 weeks, but after 6 weeks, I had to call to find out when it would be done. The piano bench was ready for me to pick up a few days later and when I finally saw the final result, it was truly a fantastic restoration. I didn't imagine they could have done such a good job, especially where there were huge gauges in the wood, but it truly looked like a new bench. I left there extremely satisfied with the work, but still felt like I paid too much.
Description of Work: I have an old walnut piano bench purchased by my grandmother in the 1930's that had seen it's better days. It needed to be re-glued and refinished including filling in some severe gauges in the wood. it also needed to be re-upholstered including padding and multiple recessed buttons.

We took the table in ourselves for an estimate. The service man explained how they would repair it. He was professional and clear about the process. Two weeks later we had a perfectly repaired table. I had never used Ackerman's before but will definitely use them again.

Ackerman seemed really great to work with over the phone initially. They were able to schedule my initial consultation in a couple days at a time that was convenient. They came to my home, diagnosed the problem and removed the lever from my recliner so they could order a new one. It took a couple weeks before I heard back from them, and they said that they'd found the part I needed, that they were able to get it, and they would call once they had it to schedule a time to install the new part. They called me a few times within a few days to let me know this fact. After a couple more weeks passed they called to let me know they had the part and wanted to schedule a time to install it. It was difficult to find a time that was convenient for me (my fault, not theirs) but we finally settled on a date a couple weeks out and set the appointment. On the day that I thought was the appointment, I waited and no one came, and after the time frame they gave me expired I called to check, thinking I had made a scheduling error, which honestly I'm not sure was true but I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the company. They were helpful in that they were willing to keep the date that they had on file ( the following day) and were able to schedule me later so that I could make the appointment. Once they came, everything went as planned, it was an easy install, they did a great job, and my recliner now works perfectly. I dinged the report in two areas, so sorry guys, first for responsiveness was the couple weeks without information. It would have been nice to have had at least a phone call to let me know where we were at, and I found the multiple calls with the same message about having found the part and having it on order was confusing with so much lag time between the initial appointment, the calls, and the final call to install. Also because of the scheduling issue (my fault, I will admit) but a confirmation call from you the day (or two) before would have eliminated the issue on my part and also could potentially have saved you from showing up at my house and me not being there. Secondly on the price. I was charged for two service calls plus parts. Again, I didn't ask so shame on me, but the charge for two service calls I thought was a little odd. I get that you came to my place twice and that makes to service calls, but most other professionals that I've worked with only charge one service call and that includes the time to initially come to the site, diagnose the problem, give a recommendation on how to repair it, and estimate cost. They usually then schedule the repair and bill only for the second call. In the end the bill was only $150, which seems a little steep considering what work you did, but overall I'm happy with the result and don't know that I could have gotten it any other way or for any less money. The guy who came out to the house, I think John, was exceptional. Very professional, very easy to work with. He came dressed well, he was clean, and he worked cleanly. He was efficient and did a nice job. He was very careful. He called before the appointment to let me know he was on his way. I appreciate the work and would hire these guys again any day.
Description of Work: I had a problem with the lever on a reclining chair which I called Ackerman to repair. They came to my home, diagnosed the problem, removed the part to be replaced and told me they'd call back when they had it in so they could install it. Once they had the part they scheduled a time and were able to come out and install the new lever. I was charged for two service calls plus the lever.
