Sela Gutter Connection

I have known the Sela name as one of the most notable roofing companies in the Twin Cities for as long as I've lived here (20+ years). I did exhaustive research, solicited bids, checked references, drove all over town looking at reference homes and finally settled on Sela to replace my roof (single-family home). I also had them install gutter toppers on the house. The work/result is outstanding. Things happened on-schedule. In fact, the entire job was completed in one day (compared to 2-5 days for recent roofing jobs done on our neighbors's homes by other contractors). I was warned to look around the house afterwards to check for stray nails -- I never found a single nail. The clean-up was that precise. The only exceptions were a piece of old shingle that I discovered inside one of the shrubs down below and the gutter guys left one 3-foot scrap in the back yard. Aside from that the landscaping and surrounding areas looked completely untouched. The only very minor issue I had with Sela was that you can tell they are a larger operation. Some of the other roofing contractors I spoke with were one-man operations or small crews and when I called them, they either picked up or called back almost immediately and answered all of my questions. Sela had some minor gaps in the "handoff" from the salesperson/estimator to the scheduler to the crew, and on to their separate billing function and followup. At times, I had to make an extra call. For example, I wasn't there when the job was finished and I wasn't sure what was going to happen afterwards (e.g. was there a walkthrough, signing of papers, handoff to billing, did they want their sample shingles back?). All in all, that was a very minor inconvenience of a few minutes/voice mails and during the post-work billing process, they closed the loop on all of that. Besides, when I'm involved in a project of this magnitude, I would rather have minor communication gaps (that were equally my unfamiliarity with the process as much as their process) be the "issue" than any flaws in the work itself. I have no hesitation recommending Sela to anyone seeking quality, reputable roofing contractors.

Sales project manager gave estimate and job was completed ahead of schedule and required no extra days to complete.

Albert was great to deal with getting the initial quote. The price was so reasonable we didn't even bother getting quotes from any other company. The installation was quick and the gutters look great. We have needed a couple adjustments since the installation. Eli has been great to deal with as well. He came out promptly and made the adjustments we requested free of charge. I would highly recommend Sela Gutter Connection to anyone.

Sela Residential Roofing had competitive price. They were prompt, thorough, flexible and we really liked their products. We will use their services in the future.

Mr. V. J Shvets was the sales representative. He was very courteous. He gave us quotes, worked with the insurance and followed up until the job was done.

Sela did an excellent job on my roof which started with ice damns. They were able to assess the damage that had occurred in a number of areas in my home and their bid was the most reasonable. This was out of three companies that I received bids from.Throughout, the whole process I worked closely with Pat. He is now the go to guy for estimates when I need work done on my home.

They were very prompt and did excellent work.

We had never used them before. We were happy with the work. We cannot tell the details because it was a couple of years ago but we don't remember having any problems with them. Our contractor suggested them to us. Our overall experience with them was good. The quality of the work was not perfect but it was pretty good. We would use them in the future but it would depend on the pricing because there are a lot of things that come into sight, and it is not just the company.

The roof looks great. They did a good job at communicating, responded well to a problem I found after work was done, and I am very happy with the results and the company. They cleaned up very well after themselves.

Everything works very well. They were pretty thorough and it's very mom and poppy even though it's a pretty big company in Minneapolis. They are a little bit too big to a point that they lose a little bit of communication, but they are still pretty personal.

The actual gutters were done very well and I am satisified with the work. The sales person was friendly and quoted me a reasonable price. The salesperson also said the gutters would be installed within 10 days, and 9 days later I hadn't heard a peep on scheduling an installation. I called the office and had to raise quite a stink to get them to come out. After they agreed to put me at the top of their install schedule, rain forced them to reschedule twice but that part isn't their fault. They ended up installing the gutters around 2 1/2 weeks after the saleperson's visit.

Overall, SELA did a good job and I would use them again. In fact, I am considering their quote to re-roof my house. SELA's estimator (John) was easy to contact and was very responsive, knowledgable and professional. He prepared SELA's quote and was my contact through the course of the project. I had received other quotes to replace my window's, and SELA's quote was very competitive. Their reasonable quote for the window replacement, plus the fact that they could also do the other work I needed, was the reason I chose SELA. SELA's schedule coordinator kept me appraised of when different portions of the work would be done. All of SELA's employees and subcontractors were friendly and professional. They all did their portion of the work quickly. They also did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. SELA's work passed city inspection with no problems.

Contacted SELA to provide an estimate for replacing the siding, soffit and fascia and gutters. The salesman, John LaRoque contacted me timely and scheduled an appointment. He arrived at the agreed upon time and spent a significant amount of time discussing our options and price. He was very courteous and professional. After answering all of our questions, he completed a written estimate that he left with us. He also stated that he understood that since we are looking at spending a large sum of money, that he would check back in a couple days to see if we had any further questions and that if I had additional questions, to call him. Well, I did call him two times after he provided the estimate with a few additional questions. In each case he promptly returned the call and provided the answers. In one case, he did not know the answer and told me that he did not know the answer, but would get it. Thirty minutes later, he called me back with an answer. The crew arrived on the date and time they said they would and did a really nice job. We have received many compliments on their work. In addition, the crew supervisor pointed out some issues with the way my Windows were wrapped and suggested that I contact the company that installed them because they were done incorrectly. (I am currently working with that company to correct the issue.) The product quality is excellent and the price was very competitive. I would highly recommend them!

UPDATE: Changed rating from D to B - Sela reached out to me after seeing my review on Angie's list and on Yelp asking for an opportunity to make it right. A new project manager came to my house and explained that they were working hard to make some changes to ensure that something like this never happens again. He reviewed the two different quotes and then did one himself to be sure. He discovered that the there was in fact an error on the second quote which added to the confusion. While I decided not to move forward with the gutters due to finances I would give Sela a second chance in the future. I appreicated their honesty and accountability I really hate to write a completely negative review because all in all the work that Sela did for me appears to be fair however, in light of recent commercials I've seen for Sela I felt I should at least share my personal expereince. I hired Sela after purchasing a home that needed gutters replaced on the detached garage. I asked them to quote both the replacement on the garage and to put leaf guard on the house. The salesman told me that several sections of the gutters needed to be replaced first. I didn't pay much attention at first b/c I wasn't planning on doing the house until the next year but when they came back to install the garage gutters I asked the installation manager to get up closer to the gutters on the house and verify that they need full replacement. He confirmed what I had suspected that they did NOT need full replacement (especially since the first salesrep was recommending that from the ground looking up 20 feet). As a result, I asked them to send a manager out to requote me but instead they sent out the same salesrep. After reviewing the second quote I was so utterly confused by the way it was written (it was not consistent with how they wrote the first one) with several options and depsite eliminating 108 feet of replacement gutter it was only $200 cheaper than the orginal quote! It was then that I realized that I had likely been taken on the garage gutters so when I recieved a survey from them in the mail I was extremely forthcoming with my displeasure about that. Unfortunately, they never reached out to me to discuss my concern or even sent so much as an apology that I was displeased. What is the point of sending a survey if you're not going to address the feedback received?

They did a good job. There were no problems. They also do good cleanup after the job is done. When they were called back to do additional work, they were not as punctual. The job was eventually done, but the telephone follow up is my only complaint.

Their pricing was superior. They were professional. They were on time. They got the work done as promised. They cleaned up after themselves. They were incredible.

Estimating process was efficient, responsive and timely. After booking, the entire job wasn't completed for 4 months and still is not complete to my satisfaction. I did not hear from them for 2 weeks. I called and was told that someone would be out soon. It was probably another 2 weeks before anyone showed up and then only after calling two more times. Then the job started. It took them probably 2 months to complete the siding work. When I gave them this feedback they said this was due to the siding taking a long time to come in and because some deteriorating brickwork on our home delayed them. I would note that the brickwork took 1.5 weeks for me to get someone out to fix it and during that time they had plenty to work on in other areas. Also, the siding apparently took longer to come in than they expected, but it probably only caused 1 week delay and then sat in our front yard untouched for at least a week. Overall, the gutters currently leak because they were installed incorrectly and can't be fixed because it is too cold. Also our house looks poor because the job took so long and now it is too cold to paint the siding which appears to be getting waterlogged. We sent them our deposit the first week of Sept. and the job "completed" around Thanksgiving. Way too long!

They way they lined the gutters up with the shingles were not the best. On the back side of my garage it seemed like something wasn t quite right there. Overall, the experience was pretty good. The main part of the roof was fine but the edges didn t go the best.

The representative from SELA was punctual, friendly, and professional. He thoroughly explained the advantage of the materials that SELA utilizes over their competitors. The bid process was a little lengthy (followed by a hard sell for the business), but everything was explained very well. In the end, I ended up hiring a different contractor from Angie's List whose bid was significantly less, and involved similar quality of materials.

They were very punctual and professional and they did get the job done on time. There was actually a part of the gutters that ended up leaking, but I called them and they were happy to come back and fix them. I would recommend them to others.

The experience was great! They cleaned up after themselves and the work was great! They were very easy to work with and they got the job done quickly and effectively. The gutters are still working very well.

Professional salesman, good presentation, no pressure. A discount was offered if we agreed to the project in 4 days. I was surprised that the company did not follow up on the sales call. We received several estimates and could have easily gone with Sela, especially if slightly more incentive had been given.

There was a lack of communication from what I was lead to believe would take place and from what actual took place. They also installed a leaf gutter cover system that was installed incorrectly and I contacted the manufacturer of the system that ended up sending another company to install the gutter system correctly. It was poor quality work and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I had specific instructions to specifically install and place new vents that wasn't done properly. It was shoddy workmanship. What was promised by the contractor was not performed.

Experience was hit or miss. Some of the sub-contractors that they used were more professional than others. I would not recommend them because they don't seem concerned about the quality of the work product. They are very timely on requesting to be paid.

Timely arrival, and they were polite and professional. All work was done good and very well.
