Description of Work: Somewhat expensive even compared to other companies. They had to come back a couple of times to fix where they covered the dryer vent so it was not used for about a month. We asked them if they had made a mistake since it was not working once they did that side and they ensured us that it wasn't so we spent a lot on parts but found out it was blocked. They also changed out the garage door but left a scratch on the side that is just located over by the house light so somewhat obvious. It is a small one but still obvious. The entry door has a post holding up the roof outside and it was not done so as you come up to the door it is obvious and wrecks the completion of the work done. I had insulation done but they did a good job in the Attic but did nothing inside the light fixtures and vents. It seems that the amount of money spent would have been a better job that was done.

Description of Work: We have hired Universal Windows Direct to install windows on both levels of our home. Compared to the several other quotes we obtained this was the most reasonable. Our installation happens next week, so it's been a bit of a wait for the windows to come in. I will update the review after installation.

Description of Work: We had two windows installed by Universal Windows Direct. Starting with their sales pitch and presentation of the windows they would install I was impressed and actually learned something. I didn't feel like they were trying to leave and get out the door, but were happy to answer my questions. The windows were installed within the time period they had promised and when one of the windows had a crack in it, they ordered another frame and re-installed it several weeks later. Their communication was quick and they set reasonable expectations.

Description of Work: They installed a new sliding door for us. The sales man who came out was nice and professional and never bargined prices like many other companies we had out who if you said no would keep decreasing the price.. In other words trying to rip you off. Univeral Windows never did that. They were ahead of time on the estimated install date which was great! The installers were good - were heard bickering quite about (which made me nervous), but they did a great job and the door looks great!

Description of Work: I called Universal Windows Direct because I have several windows and a door in my house that were very drafty - even though the house is only 6 years old. It was obvious that the builder used very low end product. I have two kids and a dog, so the lower level patio door was a priority for me to get replaced with something more energy efficient. I had four different contractors come out to give me a quite and what a difference I found with UWD! They were very nice when I scheduled the appointment and the salesman (Steve) arrived on time, and looking professional. His presentation was full of information and he answered all of my questions. He was the only one that took the time to answer all of my questions and even take it one step further by explaining to me how their windows are manufactured and what makes them different. I appreciated that he worked with me to figure out which windows to replace now and which ones to wait until next time to do. I was comfortable with the quality and the price of the windows and doors was better than the other companies; I even took advantage of the financing program he offered me. Install was about 7 weeks later – as expected – and went very smoothly. Nice installers, great work, and they cleaned up when they left. I love the windows – and am glad I got them replaced before it got too cold. I can definitely feel the difference already!

Description of Work: I have used Steve in the past when he did remodeling work. He installed hardwood floors in my kitchen, remodeled my lower level by adding a bathroom, and even put in my concrete driveway. When my parents needed a new roof I called Steve right away. Sure enough, he went right out there and talked to them about different shingles and options. My mom is slow to make a decision sometimes, so after a few trips out there to look at colors and get more questions answered, they finally decided on an Owens Corking Architectural Shingle on their house. They were worried about ice dams so they also made sure to get the ice and water underlayment, and Steve suggested more vents as well. So far this winter they are thrilled. I will continue to call and refer Universal Windows Direct to everyone who asks.

I felt like I was given a good understanding regarding the quality of what we were purchasing and though the price was a little higher than what I wanted to spend, the value of the product was worth it. The windows took a few weeks to order as they were custom sizes, but it was right around the projected date that they gave us during our initial meeting. Everything was cleaned up before he left and he even fixed my squeaky side door. I would work with this company again.

+ 0 moreWhile it took awhile for the windows to be constructed - we were told that - the removal of our old and installation of our new windows was done professionally and they look great. The windows are vinyl, and are very easy to open (both upper and lower windows for the front of the house can be folded in to clean from inside the home), and after our first winter with them they appear to be saving us money. Our only issue was with the kitchen casement, which cranked out the opposite to what we ordered. We had the invoice and called them to tell them about it; they ordered a replacement which arrived within a month and was installed at no charge. So far, we are very happy. Recommended - and we expect to go back to Universal Windows Direct in the future for additional windows and for a sliding door.
Description of Work: We contacted Universal Windows Direct after speaking with a representative who had a stall at the Minneapolis Farmer's Market. He then came by our home to discuss our needs, and brought along examples of windows as well as a comparison of metal (others) vs. their between-pane material in terms of temperature transfer by placing each in a glass with ice in it (theirs stayed room temp while metal transferred the cold). Anyway, we ordered complete window replacements for the front of our house (4, each with two windows), our kitchen (2, one a large slider and the other a casement), and in our garage (1 slider). We chose the mid-level offering in terms of insulation.

+ -1 moreIt was fine. But they are high. They would not leave a written estimate with us. Chose to go with Anderson Windows. They left us with a print out of all costs and told us to think about it before making a choice. Not a hard sale as they were only good while they were at our house.

+ -1 moreAfter receiving a couple other estimates I called Steve from Universal Window Direct and requested an estimate. Steve met with me just a few days later and did a very thorough job explaining his line of replacement windows. He was very professional and I was comfortable with him from the start. He also provided me with dozens of references and I actually contacted two people who also recommended Steve's company. I researched the product line and felt the window I was getting was as good or better than anything else I could get for the price. Actually, the Universal Direct line of windows has several features even much more expensive windows don't have. I called Steve with a couple other questions regarding the installation process and decided to have install the windows. I asked that the builiding permit be pulled quickly and as promised Steve called back just a couple weeks later and the permit was pulled. Also, as promised the windows were installed four weeks later by his very professional two man crew. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to install replacement windows.
Description of Work: I had them install eleven double hung replacement vinyl windows, wrap exterior window trim and replace interior window trim.

+ 0 moreWe bought our house two years ago that still had the original windows from 1952 and presumably the same front door. There was no deadbolt, and even if we had installed a deadbolt, the three glass panels on the door made it impossible to secure. Steve came out to an appointment to give us a bid. He was very patient with us as we asked him a lot of questions. We're still relatively new home owners and had no idea what to look for with replacement windows. We received his bid and compared it to other vendors and they were surprisingly affordable; compared to the big-name window sellers in the area. We were a little concerned about the quality of the windows since we were unfamiliar with the brand. However, I researched the company, they have been around for quite some time, and the warranty was solid, so I was sure that I would be able to get service if I needed in the future. Because the price was lower than what we had anticipated, we opted to have Steve install a new front door for us as well. The lead time on the windows was a couple weeks. The 2-man team that installed our windows did a fantastic job. They were very clean and efficient. They vacuumed after they finished each window and they completed all 17 windows on 2 floors and our door within 2 days. I never saw them take a break. We purchased a storm door from Home Depot and the team installed that for us at the same time, which saved me an afternoon of frustration. We've been very pleased with the windows since they were installed. It's amazing how quiet the house is now that we cannot hear every car drive by and person walking by our house. We were able to keep our AC turned down though the summer because our house stayed cool and we haven't had to turn on our heat yet, because the cold hasn't been creeping in the way it used to. As you might imagine, our utility bills reflect the savings. We really could not be happier with the service Steve gave us or the quality of the windows we received.
