Universal Windows Direct

I'm very satisfied. Price was great. Door is solid. Installation guys were great to work with. Friendly and did a great job.

Initial meeting was in April. The salesman (sorry, I can't remember his name) was new to the company, but he was very professional. And, very thorough. After signing the purchase agreement, Steve came over and did a final measurement of the window. He let me know then that they were 6 - 8 weeks out for installation. I then got a letter that they were delayed another 4 weeks due to volume of work. The delay didn't matter to me, as the window that was being replaced was doing it's job. Michelle was great to work with on scheduling. Always polite and always professional. When the installation finally happened, the crew was completely professional. The entire job took about 3 hours. They put plastic both inside and outside of the house. After they were gone, I fully expected to have to clean both inside and out, and there was nothing to clean. When I was having the window estimation done, I didn't fully appreciate how the trim on the inside would look. And, it's great. I like it 100 times more than what was there before. The old window was a side by side crank out. The replacement is one bottom up slider. It makes the room look 10 times bigger. My neighbors have commented on how just one window makes the house look better. Like it should have looked all along. Definitely pleased with this team. And, would absolutely hire them again.

I loved everything about my experience with Universal Windows Direct! The cost was unbeatable- They were professional, courteous and did a wonderful job. My doors look great and changed the whole look of my home. I am planning on using them again to replace a large skylight window.

The whole process was great. The guys that came out to replace my windows did not leave any mess behind and did a great job at replacing my window. In addition, all the staff I came across were really nice. I'm so glad I chose Universal Window.

We met the representative at the fair, and agreed to talk to them. Then asked for a bid on our windows along with a bid from another company. Universal (the window guy locally) came out explained everything and stayed in communication with us. Their bid was significantly lower than the other company. The windows came and they were installed in one day. The installers were very careful about doing things the right way and sealed everything up well and cleaned up after themselves.

Whole project went well. We love the doors.

My experience with Universal Windows Direct was FANTASTIC! Steve so great to work with! He takes his time to explain options and explain his products. I felt like he truly cared about my project and helped me make decisions. Even more, the two men that came out to do the instal were very polite, cleaned up after the project and did a wonderful job. I did have to reschedule the date I had originally planned to have the window installed because the installer had hurt his hand. Steve called me himself to apologize and worked quickly to get me rescheduled ASAP. Well worth the wait. Wonderful company and enjoyed working with their employees. Definitely will use again in the future.

Great! Absolutely great! They found rotting at the base of the entry and fixed this before placing the new door. They put in a new doorbell because mine wasn't working well. It was so refreshing to have someone do work that is done so well and that they are proud of. (And they left the floor cleaner than it was before they came to so the work!)

The windows we got are really nice. Hard to say if they'll last like we'll hope but so far they're nice. The "deal" wasn't really what you think you're getting into. There's all kinds of charges and upgrades you'll want to do. For example, the "Full lifetime warranty, including labor and materials" is not on the base model offered on the deal, that's an couple hundred buck upgrade. The windows are not insulated as you'd think any window advertised as "energy-efficient, vinyl dual-pane windows" would be. At the end of it the windows were about $2k. Same price I would have paid anyone else to do it.

John showed up on time. Although they told me it would only take about an hour to install when I ordered it, it actually took 3-4 hours to complete the job. Upon finish of the installation, I noticed I couldn't get the key out of the new lock. He had to remove the knob and change it inside so I could turn the key and remove it. The door and sidelight look great, and I have had no problems with them.

The guys who do installation for Universal are excellent at what they do. Things were started and completed extremely timely and when they finished the job they made sure everything was cleaned up. We were satisfied with the work. Steve is not very personable or professional. I would not work with him again. His installers do however do a great job!

They were able to custom fit a standard bay window and trim on site. So pleased that we will use them again to put in a new front door.

Our downstairs window was in sad shape, with a rotted frame and a window that leaked air like a sieve. Our new window looks terrific and we've been very happy with its performance.

They are on Angie's List. The window crew was fantastic. Make sure that there is a dedicated siding crew. The window crew was friendly and professional. The third siding crew was, but the first siding crew was horrible and got fired from the job. Steve, the owner of Universal Windows, knew all about it. I think he fixed all of his professional problems. We're still going to bring him back. I would hire them again.

Steve was great to work with. He wanted to make sure we were satisfied. We had really nice hardware around our patio door and the installers did a great job not ruining any of the brick. The installers spent close to 8 hours in the sub freezing temperature to complete the job. The doors are great. When we called back to find out about painting the doors Steve and Melissa were very responsive and got back to us immediately. We have one door that will need replacing down the road and I will definitely go back to Universal.

Update: Steve came out and fixed our concerns with the caulking around the door. Satisfied with our windows! What we liked: - Steve and Melissa are responsive and were willing to work with us. Steve came out three times to help us determine the correct windows and door options that we wanted. - The oak trim around all windows and doors was great! - So far, we like the windows and how they have lessened noise and affected the temperature of the house. It used to hit up substantially in the summer. - The workers were open to questions and feedback as they were putting in the windows and door. - Great job with wrapping the door and window frames. - Great job working around and replacing tile that butted up to a window in the bathroom. What was a little disappointing: - Found screws and nails on driveway and in garage after the workers had left for the last time. Resulted in flat tire on car. (Steve was appropriate on his response when hearing about the nails. Apologized and agreed to pay for flat repair) - Ripped an entry rug somehow. (Steve payed for it to be replaced) - Luckily I had nothing to do for the 4 days that they were on the site. I appreciated that they wanted to take their time and do it right but the number of days was a little disappointing. - It was indicated that the workers would come the first day between 9 and 10 am. I don't recall the exact time but it was after 11 am before they were at our house. The other days, the earliest that they started was 9:45 am on the last day. The middle two days they started between 10 and 11 am. Would have been frustrating if I had any morning appointments but I did not so it worked out. - There was a small chip out of the trim by the door (which was not the issue) but they didn't inform me of this. - There was one screen missing and two screens with holes in them (Steve has ordered replacement screens for all three) - There is some missing and bungled caulk around the door (should be addressed when come back with our missing screen) and there was caulk on the door. - I bought a new doorbell and gave it to the workers when they showed up so they could install it. Unfortunately, they did not look at the doorbell and when it came time to install it, they realized that they had not configured the hole where the wire came out correctly to accomodate the new doorbell. I got a different doorbell and installed it myself. Overall, I would use Steve again in the future for windows and doors installation.

It took longer than had planned, however to be fair the installers had to repair one of the bedroom window and window area due to it was rotted and had to replace several pieces of siding. They fixed it all, with an added cost of $500. The windows look great and have made a difference in insulting the house from heat/cold and noise.

We want to say how impressed we were with Steve and Universal Windows Direct.. He was the first one out to us. He doesn't use subcontractors. He kept his presentation to the point, He has one of the best warranties of ALL the companies we saw. He answered questions. .. and most importantly for us, He did not engage in the high pressure "you must buy today to get this wonderful offer" that many of his competitors engaged in. UWD really set the standard and a high bar for the other 5 window dealers to follow. Over the next week we had 4 other dealers engage in the old dog and pony show known as the "one call close". They would start with a pumped up price and then drop it down between 25% - 50% if I would just "sign today"... If pressed on why they needed us to sign today they would invariably come up with the excuse that their "time is valuable" What they weren't saying is that they were afraid of the competition. If we see what the market place has to offer or investigate the claims they made with some outside research and actually looking at references.. they lose the sale.. and they know that. Since I can't include a link. Please google "One-Call-closing in todays competitive market linkedin" to see the actual window salesman discuss this practice honestly. It is a real eye opener. I was amazed at how shameless most of them are. Steve even came back for a second visit and because we had really fallen in love with ProVia door designs, he submitted a bid for that product, even though that is not the brand he usually carries. Most of the other window dealers spent their time knocking the other brands, Steve spent his time informing us about the advantages and value his company had to offer. In the end Steve and Universal Windows Direct came in at a very close second. He offers a good solid quality Vinyl Window. Has great reviews, no complaints and doesn't subcontract out. He was also the lowest bid. The only small tick he got on our grading was a B for responsiveness as we were sending him lots of emails while he was busy at the homeshow. During our 2 weeks of research we ended up liking the look of wood over vinyl and visiting showrooms to see them up close We decided that as long as we had extra money to spend we would go with a higher end Marvin Wood Ultimate line of windows with another reputable Angies list company. BUT IT WAS VERY VERY CLOSE. Please give Steve a try.. especially if you want an honest best price bid for quality work.

Project was completed on time, about 3 weeks and labor/material provided as promised. the work area was left clean and the dumpster removed promptly upon completion.

We met Steve Brager at the home show in January at the Metrodome. His was one of three companies that we set up appointments with to provide estimates for the replacement of four windows. We had previously received estimates from Anderson Renewal, Pella and Wellington. The other two companies had similar windows but there were nagging differences - one had only white vinyl (they offered to paint it but who would want painted vinyl????) the other had visually unattractive screen attachments. Both were considerably higher priced than Universal Windows Direct. We opted for argon gas filled triple glazed windows. After signing the contract it took 2 weeks for the windows to be built and delivered to Minneapolis. UWD called to make an appointment and four days later they arrived on time to install the windows. Trevor and Nathan were the installers and they did a highly professional job of installation and cleanup.

We couldn't have been more pleased. From Steve, to Melissa in the office and Matt who was our installer, we felt like we were moving through this project with family. A group of people who genuinely cared and wanted to see that we had a great experience. At the start of each phase, Steve came out to our house to confirm all of the details and I think this, along with Matt's visits, ensured that few if any mistakes were made. Our large bay window in our front room was an irregular size and required a special workaround. The window needed to be custom fit into the space and Steve and Matt together, made it work. They did a beautiful job with the new window and trim work. We've heard a lot of horror stories from friends and family who have worked with other companies on projects of this size, but we have no complaints with Universal Windows. We intend to contact them again to replace our front doors and we will keep them in mind for other projects.

Overall we were very pleased with the results. Steve is a gregarious fellow, a real pleasure to work with. He helped us pick out colors for the door, and the framing for the doors and windows. They have a ton of options, that would fit nearly anyone's taste. After the materials came in, it was quick and easy to schedule installation. The installation team did an outstanding job, with an eye for detail. They really treated us like family.

I liked the window a lot. Good feel, nice solid window. The rollers were metal (brass?) and the window opened and closed easily. The window seems easy to clean (I took the whole thing apart to check). I really am pleased with this window. It is exactly what I am looking for. I have gotten several estimates and have been trying to choose windows for a long time. Until Universal Windows Direct, I was unable to find both a window I liked and a company I felt comfortable working with. I felt that Steve gave me direct clear answers, and when he couldn't give me an answer up front, he told me that he didn't know and that he would get the information for me or give me the name and number of the people with the answers. I tend to ask a LOT of questions. Universal Windows Direct does not use subcontractors, which is a big plus, in my opinion. I fully intend to use them next year to replace my other 4 windows.[[]=
