He also kept me apprised of his work schedule and let me know when he thought he could complete it. He then completed it and did a good job. I have found it hard to get yard service people to return my calls or to pay much attention to me as I am not a large customer, but Jim and his team were very courteous and efficient in responding to my calls and doing the work.

Description of Work: The owner and his son rototiled and prepared my vegetable garden plots, removed leaves and removed backyard winter litter from my lawn and gardens as well as applied mulch around a large area below a maple tree. They edged and removed turf from a front yard garden. They also helped move and hand screen doors. I have asked them to return to lay more mulch to the gardens they cleared for me. They will obtain the mulch.

+ -1 moreI contacted Jim via email. I had a couch I wanted moved from the main floor to the basement and I needed a new treadmill assembled. When we had a bit of a scheduling problem he ended up making two trips to accommodate me. It turned out that the couch would not go into the basement so they put it in the garage. When they came back to do the treadmill they had to move it (in the box) from the garage into the house and then put it together in a small bedroom. I was very pleased with their work and will definitely be using their services again.

+ -1 moreI called Jim approximately 1 week before I wanted to have the treadmill moved & was able to set the date that day. Jim also called 2 days before to reconfirm the date, which I appreciated. He & his sons were already at the pick-up site when I arrived. The move went smoothly despite this being a very heavy & awkward object. They reassembled the parts that had been removed for the move correctly. They were very efficient & professional. Jim also gave me advise about 2 other jobs (which they do not do) that I need done. I would certainly hire them again without hesitation! GREAT VALUE, GREAT JOB DONE!

+ -1 moreCommunicating with Jim via e-mail was quick, easy, and convenient, and he was every bit as efficient, courteous, punctual, and neat in person as on line. This would have been a huge job for us and Jim made it so easy! He is very clear and honest about limitations (for instance, letting us know that he is not licensed to do electrical work, so could move the stove but not install it), but really goes out of his way to do a superb job "above and beyond" what's required.
Description of Work: After I bought an electric range 2nd-hand via a local shop-and-swap list, Jim and his assistant picked up the stove from the owner's home, brought it to my kitchen, and removed my old stove to take it to the recycling center. Jim recognized that my new stove had a 4-prong plug, but my kitchen has the old 3-prong socket, so he salvaged the 3-prong cord from my old stove and made an extra trip to bring me the cord. As Jim knew, his retrieving that perfectly good old cord saved me buying a new cord ($80) or spending several hundred dollars in rewiring costs, since my electrician was able to quickly "retrofit" the old cord to my new stove, rather than rewiring the socket. While here to help move the stoves, Jim and his assistant also moved a heavy dresser downstairs for us...they made no extra charge (except the $20 fee for the recycling center, to drop off the old stove).

+ 1 moreJim met me for at my home for a free estimate. I was going to get the mulch based on his estimate of how much he would need, but he offered to pick it up for me and bring it to the job. I just paid for the mulch with his bill. He was going out of town when I first contacted the company for work, but when he returned he set up the estimate right away and did the work within a week after that. The yard was clean when he was finished trimming. I would definitely use this company again and note that the company does more than just yard work.
Description of Work: Mulch a patch of about 10 bushes and trim about 10 other small bushes and one evergreen tree.

Description of Work: Jim and Tom carried some heavy bookshelves and a treadmill down to the basement from a bedroom I was re-decorating. They hung a mirror and moved some boxes of books for me, as well. Jim even found a job that needed to be done, called my attention to it, and repaired it (a loose doorknob).

Because of some severe weather problems he was not able to keep the schedule I've had agreed to, but he called me to let me know that I wasn't forgotten and rescheduled. His rate was very reasonable and I will certainly use his company again when the need arises.
Description of Work: Jim and his crew removed 4 old bushes and 2 dead stumps from the side of my townhome and filled in the area with crushed rock which he didn't charge me for.

It is easy to work with Jim - I plan projects with him via email and pay by pay-pal! I don't need to be around when he does the work as I trust him. He communicates progress or changes promptly over the phone. Very professional.

They listened carefully to what we needed, planned the best way to load the trailer, and started the job. They were careful in handling everything. We were impressed with their professionalism and conscientious work. Definitely a good decision in hiring Handy and Sons. They'll be the first company we call next time for anything else that pops up.

+ -1 moreI contacted them via email and Jim did come out to give me an estimate. He looked at everything on my list and said that it would be no problem; however, he only works on Fridays. As I have every other Friday off, that was ok with me so we picked a date that was a few weeks in the future and he wrote me into his calendar (I saw him do this). He then said that he'd call me the Wednesday before to set a definite time. The weekend before, I sent him a "reminder" email and said that I'd prefer if he came out sometime in the afternoon. But I didn't hear back. Finally on the Thursday afternoon before our scheduled date he called to say that he couldn't make it. He had another job to do. I was not too impressed with this. He wanted to schedule me into the next Friday, but I had to work then. So he then said that he'd call back and I never heard from him again.
Description of Work: I had a list of small items to be fixed.

They were fast, clean, friendly, affordable, and when finished, I had a 300 square foot space of freshly-tilled garden where there was once a tangled jungle of wild grapes, ragweed and Siberian Elm. I will definitely hire Handy and Sons again.
Description of Work: Grubbed out area behind garage (approximately 300 sq. ft.), and they removed weeds and small trees (between 1'' and 6'' in diameter), trash, concrete rubble, etc. They also tilled an entire area when finished.

We are very pleased with all work performed and highly recommend Jim as a handyman! We continue to use him for lawn services.
Description of Work: Painted 11 rooms (including 3 baths), repaired damage to exterior trim and touched up paint, repaired toilet, installed towel bars, installed odd-sized switch plate, repaired carpet, reattached loose brick, corrected poor installation of deadbolts, and other small repairs. Description of Work: They installed an Ikea shelving system in a new walk-in closet. It was built on free standing aluminum rods with connecting clothes poles and overhead shelves. To be installed correctly, the poles had to be exactly vertical and the pole brackets had to be level.

They completed the work earlier and for less than the estimated cost (it helped to have 3 workers at times- Jim, plus "the sons"!). They provided the choice of cheaper alternatives to fixes and gave daily status via the phone.
Description of Work: Fall leaf clean up, shrug removal, and repair of a motion light. They also completed a list of nagging fixes and some unfinished basement enhancements. They prepped, primed, and painted water damaged basement walls, unclogged a bathroom drain, caulked a bathtub and kitchen sink, fastened a squeaky railing, and hauled away old stuff to a dumpster.

Description of Work: WE NEEDED A LARGE TREE REMOVED FROM THE PROPERTY, PER A HOME SALES AGREEMENT. THE TREE WAS GROWING RIGHT INTO THE STUCCO SIDING OF THE GARAGE, AND HAD CRACKED THE SIDING BADLY.
