The painter arrived on time and painted for 7 hours. He did a good job and was very professional. He checked with me on how to proceed when he discovered that the two paint cans were slightly different color and offered a good solution. It did take a while to schedule with this company, but the work was well done.

I purchased a Big Deal coupon from Dan Netko Exteriors, and used it for interior painting of my craft room. Due to my schedule, I was not able to use the coupon for a few months. Dan was very professional and pro-active in following up with me, to remind me that I had the Big Deal. We were finally able to schedule the painting project, based on my schedule. The painter that provided the service was professional, listened well, was a good communicator, let me help (which I wanted to do), and did an EXCELLENT job! I am so happy with the quality of the painting project, especially the white 6-panel doors. Not only did the painter do an excellent job on my walls, he made certain that my initial and quot;non-professionaland quot; mistakes/issues were corrected; i.e., sanding down where I had paint tracks and chips, covering some wall issues with stain-blocker, etc. Any additional costs above the cost of the Big Deal (I wanted some extra paint hours allowed) were clear beforehand. Dan followed up quickly to be certain I was happy with the results. I would definitely use this painting contractor again.

They painted my attic room. Tom and I discussed what I wanted with the painting job, he suggested what would be the best way to paint, then painted the room beautifully. He painted over stairs and on slanted walls, and around a lot of woodwork beautifully. He painted the textured walls well, something that looked difficult because of how irregular the texture. He made a beautiful line where the color of the ceiling met the color used on the wall. The room looks beautiful, makes it so much nicer to be in. I'd call Dan Netko exteriors again, and would ask if he does interiors, too!

A subcontractor (A B Kinnard Masonry, which I highly recommend) tore the falling-apart chimney down to the roof line and rebuilt it, including new flues and a new sill. It looks perfect. It took 2 days and they took away all the the debris and the bricks we didn't want when they were done. He was able to arrange with the subcontractor to be out within days of our agreement. He wanted to be paid in cash, which was not all that convenient. Also it took several weeks to actually figure out which things on my list he had subcontractors available to do.

I had a coupon for 7 hours of painting for $199. It took 9 hours with him calling in other guy to help the last 2 hours so I had to pay for an additional 4 hours. (It took him 2 hours to tape. Really?) I also had to buy the paint and pay for the tape and paper they used, so my great deal cost me $678. (I did get the contractor's discount on the paint.) The painter did a really nice job, except for one corner that needs touching up and a paint smear on a window sill. I still haven't heard when they'll come back to fix it. I knew I'd probably have to pay over the 7 hours, but not 4 hours over. (It all was one coat except one wall.) Overall it looks great, but the time and money was more than anticipated.

I'm sorry that it took more hours of painting than you thought it would. Every job is different and some jobs take longer than others depending on several variables. I personally went back and repaired the corner that had deteriorated sheet rock in it and painted it at no extra charge I was hoping you could give us an A for the excellent work and the extra repair work done at no charge even though it took longer than you thought it would or should.

I purchased a big deal on Angie's List, and called to schedule. I communicated that I needed lead safe work practices, because I knew that there was lead paint, and because I was working with a grant from the county related to the lead paint. They said that this was fine. There was a month long wait list for the scheduling. When Dan did call, he did not know any of the details that I had previously given the original person I spoke with. He expected me to be able to be ready for him to paint at a moment's notice. I told him that I could not take off work for this, and that I could be there at 8 or 9 in the morning to show what needed to be painted,or I could leave a key and notes. He agreed to the key and notes and scheduled for 1 pm today. No one came at 1 pm. He sent a worker who was not lead safe work practices certified to come. This worker called me around 3, wondering if I could meet him at the house. I did not get the message until 5:30. No one had even attempted to come to my house as scheduled, until I called back at 5:30. The worker then went to my house at 5:30, and spent 2 hours just looking at the project. When I talked on the phone to this worker, he didn't sound like he knew anything about lead safe work. He evaded my question 3 times about whether he had the certification. He also had accomplished absolutely nothing on a day that he had been scheduled to work in my house all afternoon. When I spoke to Dan, he said the most ridiculous things - that he wasn't sure where I got 1 pm from, that I hadn't left any keys where I obviously had, even though the worker somehow got in the house. He said, that the lead safe work practices weren't a big deal. He balked when I communicated again about the grant and that the county would be testing it. He did not know why this worker had been at my house for 2 hours and hadn't gotten anything accomplished whatsoever. He said he had to call the worker and call me back. When he called me back, he said that he didn't and quot;want to do the joband quot; that I had already paid him $200 dollars and waited a month for him to do. He seemed to be scared off by the lead safe work practices, which leads me to believe that he doesn't actually live up to his certification. He belittled it, said that it was just a weird government thing that had me worried, and blatantly said that was why he didn't want to do the job. He didn't understand the fact that I had told him about it from the beginning and the fact that he had the certification led me to believe that he would be competent in that skill and not turn jobs down because of lead paint. (80% of older homes have lead paint, so it seems like he's probably not being safe if he can't handle jobs with lead paint, just saying). Overall, he held my $200 for a month, wasted a full month of my time, didn't follow through on his word, was unprofessional, sent someone to my house that didn't do anything (which creeps me out), and barely said that he was sorry (only after I told him how much he inconvenienced me). He also didn't hold out on his agreement for the services and just told me to get a refund from Angie's list. By far the most unprofessional company I have ever worked with.

This situation was definitely a meltdown from the beginning of our interaction. The member did mention something about lead paint considerations when she first talked with my wife. I failed to get back to her and find out more details about that issue. Had I done that, I would have informed her right away about my reluctance to take on her project (especially at the price of the coupon) and then the long delay and wasted time for the member would have been avoided. In her situation regarding the lead paint issue, the county was involved because they were paying for the work or had loaned her the money. If I had known that the cumbersome, inflexible, time consuming bureaucracy of the a government agency was to be involved, I would not have even considered taking the job on without tacking on a considerable price tag for dealing with them. I'm lead certified have one painting crew that is also lead certified. My apologies to the member. I'm sorry that I didn't pay attention to the lead detail and get more information about it right away.

When they came out for the estimate they told me that we should replace some of the older siding that is showing some signs of water damage. He looked around and said about 5 boards. I agreed and signed the contract. When the person who came to fix my siding arrived I found out he was a sub-contractor who met Dan at a coffee shop. He did some work before but not much. I was paying Dan Netko $65 an hour for this person, who I later learned only made $25 and hour. I understand the company making some money, but this is a huge markup. The person doing the siding started and told me that many more boards needed to be replaced otherwise it would not look good. At some talks I told him to fix what needed fixing so that the paint would look perfect. He fixed some, at a total cost of $1700 and then the painters came. The painters did a nice job, very professional. A day after I walked around my house and saw one side of the house that had ridges in the siding and it was not nice and clean like the rest of the house. I called Dan and asked why these boards where not fixed when all the others where. After many phone calls and emails he told me that they only fixed what I told them to. My reply was, I told you to fix all that needed fixing. I said you are the experts, you should know what is not going to look good. After two months of emails he was finally going to schedule some people to come. He originally said he would only charge me the $25 an hour to fix the issue, but when the time came it was $75 and hour, for about 4 hours. I think Dan is actually a nice person, but very bad customer service. I hired his company and paid over $5000 in cash for this project. He was actually one of the higher bids. He should have offered to fix the issue. Instead my house is still not how it should look. Thank you,

The comments above were actually from another person, not from the member. We have never done work for this member and I have repeatedly tried to get my Angies list rep to resolve this. The job that is described in this member's review is a painting job that we did for someone else. Probably the members friend or relative who used this members account to find a contractor. He says that our painting crew did a great job. The issue he had revolved around how much siding was replaced by my carpenter prior to the painting job. From the beginning of our communication about which boards were to be replaced, the customer was reluctant to replace all of the weather damaged siding. In fact, he only wanted to replace about 5 pieces that had severe deterioration on them. I encouraged him from the beginning to replace more than less siding. The customer met with my carpenter a couple of times to identify which boards were to be replaced. Through this process he decided to replace more and more pieces of siding. By the third day, the customer claims that he told my carpenter to replace all of the siding necessary to make it perfect. My carpenter remembers him pointing out specific boards to replace, which he did. We had established quite clearly from the beginning that the customer would be the one to decide which boards that would be replaced. After it was painted, because of the new paint having a glossier finish than the old paint, even the slightest puckering of the surface of this masonite siding stood out much more than it did with old, dull paint on it. So the customer is holding us responsible for not replacing those boards with minor puckering on them, even though it was clearly established early on that he was the one responsible for identifying which boards were to be replaced. I offered to have my carpenter replace the final 5 pieces at cost, with no profit or overhead tacked on, but he declined.

We are remodeling a bedroom/bathroom which my husband has done all of the work thus far. When I came across an Angie's Big Deal of interior painting for a day @ $199 I thought this would be something I could hire out to give my husband a little break. We had it set up to start a few weeks after the initial contact. In the mean time my husband became ill and got behind on the remodel project so I thought I would contact Dan and ask him about finishing my husband's mudding and sanding. He quoted me $50/hr which was a reasonable price but he could not give me a time as to how long it would take. My husband had taped and put the first coat of mud on and he figured it couldn't be too much time since he had already completed the portion that takes the most amount of time. To make a long and frustrating story short...18 hours later he had not completed sanding and mudding (these are not large rooms). My husband came home on day #2 very upset to see him still not finished and said he would pay him for what he had done and asked him to leave. My husband contacted some contractors he knows and their opinions were there was no way the amount of work he did should have taken so long. So $800 later, my husband still had to finish mudding and sanding and do the paint job himself. I am not sure if he really works that slowly or if he was milking the job, either way very disappointing.

"My husband had taped and PUT THE FIRST COAT OF MUD ON and he figured it couldn't be too much time since he had already completed the portion that takes the most amount of time." Dan's reply: First of all, her husband did not put the first coat of mud on. He taped all the seams, period. On what planet does it take more time to put the tape on than to apply the first full coat of mud, sand it, then apply the second coat of mud, and possibly sand lightly to make it ready for paint? Applying the tape without a coat of mud over it takes the least amount of time. She obviously has no idea how long it takes to apply the tape and mud the walls to have it ready for painting. When I first got there, she asked if it would take a couple of hours. I thought she was kidding. Once I looked at the walls, I pointed out that first I would have to go over all of her husbands work lightly with sandpaper because there was splatter on the walls from the knockdown ceiling texture that had been done and some high spots from the taping. "(these are not large rooms). Dan's reply: No, they weren't large rooms. It was a bedroom with 2 jogs in the walls, creating 2 extra inside corners and 2 extra outside corners, a vanity room with a jog on one wall, a shower/toilet room, and a walk-in closet. There was approximately 110 linear feet of walls (so that's 110 feet of mudding and sanding against a finished ceiling), and 24 inside/outside corners. "My husband contacted some contractors he knows and their opinions were there was no way the amount of work he did should have taken so long". Dan's reply: I would like to talk to those "some contractors" to see if they were drywall contractors and whether they really understood how much work there was in those rooms. "I am not sure if he really works that slowly or if he was milking the job, " Dan's reply: I worked continuously, with only a 15 or 20 minute lunch break both days. I'm sure there are people that could mud a wall faster than I can, but milking the job? What an insult. When I work for someone by the hour , I work more intensely, because I don't want anyone to think that I'm going slow to make the job take longer than it should. The bottom line here is that they did not understand how long this job would realistically take. I'm curious to know if they got any quotes from drywall contractors.

I purchased a and quot;Big Dealand quot; for one day of painting (approx 7 hours) and when I ordered teh Big Deal I entered the dates of Oct 28 - 30 as the dates I was interested in having the painting services provided. Dan (the owner) did respond to the initial purchase and asked what type of services I was looking for. I called Dan to coordinate a time and he told me he took my call while working and asked if I could email him my request. After several back and forth TXT messages with Dan to get his email address (because he thought the email address on Angie's List was old) I was finally able to email Dan to request the purchased services. He responded to my email within 24 hours but told me that 37 other people have already been scheduled and that at best it would be end of December to mid January for him to get to me. These dates are not acceptable for me as I can't wait until January to get the painting services completed, therefore I am asking for a full refund of the $199 fee I paid. I asked Dan for a refund and he told me I would have to request it through Angie's List.

The painters were very nice but they taped everything - all the trim and the ceiling! Every other professional painter i have ever worked with rarly uses tape - when i paint i do not use tape because it is time consuming and causes damage to what is taped plus the paint job does not look as good. Cutting is a painters term which i understand as something that is done without tape. The taping causes them to take more time to get the job done which in turn makes them more expensive in the long run and the taping caused damage which in turn you have to pay them extra to fix. I would not recommend them.

Using tape when "cutting in" is necessary in many situations. , especially on an inside corner between two walls with two bright, strong colors that meet at the corner. Also when changing colors. And also and especially when the customer is expecting absolutely perfect lines. I would like to see someone else do it faster with equally good results.

Called the vendor to arrange services. Said they were behind and didn't have my name on his list yet. I asked him if he had a lot of demand from the big deal promotion. he said listen, Angie's List is the one who makes out on this deal. I told him about the project and he was not very excited about it given it wasn't that big. Asked me to take pictures and email to him and he would decide whether to send a real mason out or delegate to someone else. I never followed up given my negative experience nor did he. I have been happy with Angie's List in the past, but not the tie to this vendor. Thank you for the refund.

I hired Dan Netko Exteriors Inc to paint the exterior of my house, and also to repair and replace several windows. During a very busy stretch for exterior contractors (one that immediately followed the long winter and 40 straight days of rain), Dan and his crew was able to help me out in a very time sensitve situation (I sold my home and needed to close in 3 weeks, and needed to have my house painted and windows repaired/replaced as a part of the sale). Dan connected us with his painting crew led by Corey, who worked long days and weekends to ensure that they would get my house done before the closing date. They did a fantastic job on the painting for a very competitive price. Corey's crew also worked on the sanding, mold removal, and staining of the windows in that same time period with the same great results. The window replacement was a bit more drawn out due to circumstances outside Dan's control but he kept in frequent contact with me every step of the way and ensured that I was in the loop of the evolving situtation. Based on this experience, I would not hesitate to use Dan and his company for any future exterior projects.

It was a pleasure working with you too. Thanks for your patience with things taking longer to get finished than we wanted. Thanks for the business.

We got into 2 projects for this. They sent one guy and they wanted to paint the entire house. The bid they gave me was a $3000 bid. That was not the plan. I had a leak up front and I requested he fix it and paint it. After this conversation he didn't show up again. In our conversation I did mention I had a window project, and he seemed more excited about this.

Sorry for the delay. I've been swamped for the last 6 weeks and can't do the work myself because of back problems the last week and a half. I'll call you right now.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. I was very surprised at the price. It was only for $149 off the price of the work. I thought it was very misleading. I was very happy with the finished work. They did a nice job. He didn't do the work. He had subcontractors come out to do the work.

Thanks for the review and the work. I deducted the value of the coupon from the cost of the work. I'm sorry that the work involved cost more than what you were anticipating. Brick masons that do excellent work and are honest and reliable don't come cheap. I make very little profit on small jobs like this, especially when offering a coupon with a significant discount.
