Salesman came out, very eager to do the job, never heard again from him, apparently no longer works there, VP calls to apologize over 1 month ago and says he will follow up, and have not heard from him either.

I called in May after getting the big deal. A lady came out to look at the work. My existing countertop had a small backsplash which didn't look right with the tile. A new countertop was too expensive.

They said it'd be 6-8 weeks before they could fulfill the deal. I wasn't happy about that. After 8 weeks, I called them because I hadn't heard from them; they said it'd be a further 2 weeks. Most of the tile looks great, but there was 1 tile where I thought there was too big a gap. I thought he should have seen it and replaced it. The caulk that they used was cracked so they couldn't spread the caulk. I had to wait for them to get a new tube of caulk. It was only supposed to be a few days, and a few weeks later, I called them. They hadn't heard from the store, and I asked that they call the store; sure enough, the caulk was in at the store, so we moved forward.

Talked to the salesman in June, everything seemed fine after a small glitch with the tile supplier. Expected to hear from him to set a date for the installation sometime in July, but never heard from him. Ever.

Contacted DA after initially meeting them at a home show a year or so earlier. They came to our home within a few days of contacting them and we reviewed the project with their sales person. (Jim) DA made suggestions on how to best utilize the space and also stay within the budgeted amount we had set for our selves. After the layout was finalized we put a deposit down (1/3 of the job) and scheduled the work. From scheduling to the start of work was about 10 weeks. Once the job started the project went very well. The installer for DA is excellent (ask for Dallas). Dallas was a pleasure to work with, he not only does great work, but also suggests what works best for you based on the layout of the job. Dallas was able to suggest a lower cost ceiling than what was originally priced in the contract. Not only did this save us some dollars, but looked much better than what was planned for. Dallas also does the little things that most others would say is not in their scope, such as installing cabinet handles, re-loacating plumbing and electrical switches, and installing towel racks, mirrors, and other small pieces in the bathroom. Our basement was unfinished and we were using it as a storage area for furniture and other stuff we couldn't find a home for. Our goal was to make it a place where we could entertain and have another room in the house to go to when things get crowded. The work that DA performed helped us to exceed our goal. We no longer have a "museum" for a basement, we have a beautiful finished space that are proud to show off to our friends and neighbors. DA was able to do all this for us, from studding out the walls, running electrical for lighting and outlets to doing the finish trim work. We also had DA install an egress window which was quite a job to perform. Digging outside down to the foundation, cutting the concrete and framing in the window all in three days. They even matched the brick that was removed for this job. DA also installed a 1/2 bath in the basement and we are very happy with the job. All of the plumbing had to be installed for this part of the job and DA was able to perform this work also. We also had DA install a new hot water heater as part of this job and their crew did an outstanding job. Removed the old water heater and hauled it away, installed the new heater and was up and running within 3 hours. Oh yeah, they also clean up after themselves! Very good company to work with and they are very responsive. I would use them again for my next home remodeling job.
Description of Work: Finish our basement from a storage area to a living space that includes a bathroom. Installed egress window.

The backsplash looks great and I'm happy with the quality of the work. However, the scheduling was such a hassle that I cannot in good conscience give this provider the top score, even though I had great rapport with the lady who came out to take the measurements and place the order, and with the installer himself. Not only did it take over two months to get the job scheduled, but the installer was not on time either day. (I don't believe it was his fault but the scheduler's.) Additionally, at no time was I advised that the job would take two days - one day to install the tiles and one to apply the grout.

In the end, no work was performed.
Description of Work: After purchasing a big deal regarding backsplash, someone came out and took measurements. I found out it would be an extra $250 to tear out existing backsplash. A contract was written up. I was able to cancel it within three business days as now my plans about remodeling changed and it does not make sense to have a backsplash put it at this time. The tiles they use are extremely ordinary. I was going to purchase my own and get a little credit.

The exhaust fan installers tried to cancel the appointment 20 minutes after they were supposed to be there. My wife told them that she took the day off and someone needed to be there. DA Mechanical did make it happen and two guys arrived 2 hours later. The installers did a quality job but only completed half of the job that was suppose to take one day. They had to comeback a few days later to finish because the DA employee that originally came out to the house did not pass on any information about the style of the house or any details of the job. The quality was there but the coordination and organization was not.
Description of Work: DA Home Improvements quickly responded to my inquiry and scheduled a free estimate. There was a miscommunication and the DA employee that was sent was a bathroom remodeler not a general contractor that could quote my roof, dormer and bathroom. We ended up ordering an exhaust fan for our exsisting bathroom but had to call DA multiple times to get a quote on the orginal job.

Seller came out to measure, made of clear they hoped for bigger job to increase the cost above $275. Didn't have samples of tile, but stated that only 3 boring options available. I called company twice to get dates for work and was told twice "we are scheduling it and will get back to you. ". Basically made to feel that I wasn't important to them as a customer because I was a money loser for them. If they had any plans to show great service and work to attract future work from me (I am guessing now they didn't really care), they completely failed.

D A Home Improvements are very good. We had a small bathroom in our other home and it's been there since 1930. We were having leaking problems, it had destroyed my kitchen and my kitchen counter and the floor up underneath the bathroom. We had several plumbers come out and nobody could find where it was leaking. We called D A Home Improvements and they designed a surround bathtub and a sink and a cabinet and brought in a new toilet. We told them the problem we were having and they found where the leak was and fixed that for nothing for us. They came early in the morning, worked for two days and everything was done I had a new bathroom. The prices are good. They did a lot of plumbing too. I am going to be calling them again because I am in a new house, a different house so we are starting all over with the repairs.
Description of Work: D A Home Improvements completely redid our whole bathroom. The surround tub, ceiling part that goes with it, a space saver sink, space saver cabinets, mirror, lights, brand new toilet.

They were much higher than other companies. I like their showroom. They gave us some ideas. They seem to want to go higher than other companies. They seem to do pretty good work. They kind of wanted higher because their installers are made more because they are top of the line. They have licenses and stuff. They showed us the copies of their licenses and insurance which I thought was a good thing too. They are more into trying to work with us and trying to give us what we want and good ideas on the way they do things. The lady that came out to work with us was extremely helpful.

My wife and I visited the Novi home show the first weekend in Feb. 2013 to get contacts on a complete kitchen redo for our 40 year old home. We hooked up with five companies and quickly narrowed it to three, D A Home Improvements, Accent (Canton), and Dream Kitchens (Howell). D A was the first company who visited and the first to provide an estimate. We receive a written estimate but no drawings. We did not pay for the plan or estimate. Next was Accent in Canton. Bill was very nice. We paid for the plan ($200) but did not mind this as we received drawings and an estimate. Last was Dream Kitchens in Howell. They do the design and use Midwest Construction of Plymouth/Canton as the general contactor. We did not pay for the estimate or the drawings and were allowed to take the drawings with us as long as we did not share them with a competitor. We did a couple design iterations with Accent and Dream. Dream's/Midwest's price was lower so we also added two bathroom vanities to the project. In the end we narrowly chose Dream Kitchens over Accent, but we were sure Accent would have done a good job, too. We just got tired of going back and forth between companies and were tired of the design iterations. We wanted to get started! If we did another design iteration with Accent, the price would has probably been similar to Dream/Midwest. Then D A visited our home again and we told them we decided to go with Dream. Suddenly, D A wanted to drop their price and match the Dream Kitchens price. We did not appreciate the fact that we were given one price, and then they lowered it, just based on the competition? Why not give us the "correct price" from the get-go? There was some pressure for us to accept their new lowered price, and a design that we had not seen in a month (because we had no drawings from them). So we did not go with D A. In the end, we think there is advantage with going with a design/contractor close to home, as they make lots of trips for additional tools and materials. So either Accent or Midwest was very close to our home in Canton, versus D A being located in Wyandotte.

I like the fact that the guys seemed as if they know what they're doing and a whole lot better than some of the other guys I had interviewed beforehand like they didn't know what they're doing and I don't know a lot about cement work but I know more than they did and I don't like people who bias me but this one seemed to know what to do and what they are doing. Unfortunately, they have been working on it all this week and we've been having all this rain but they have been working and they've been working hard in between the raindrops. Anyway, it's all set up ready to be poured and he decided not to pour it today because right now, we're having a thunderstorm. Their price was around what I had been getting some people who are biasing me, about the same price but I have a feeling it's going to be a whole lot better than the other ones are going to do. For the quoting part, it went well however, it was the actual scheduling of it that I'm going to have to mark them down because of that but it was because they really did not deal with the city to get the permits that they needed until like a couple of days before the date that they had given me that they were going to start and my city is known for taking a long time with the permits and so they apparently didn't know it because they're not from my town so that delayed them and then they had other projects that were going and every week, they'd say, "We'll be out there probably next week" and this happened three weeks in a row so I was a little frustrated with that part of it. They know what they were talking about. They understood what I was asking of them. They were always willing to get back to me quickly which is a good thing. I hate when you call and they don't call you for a couple of days, that's frustrating and it was frustrating to have them delay from week to week to week. They were still nice. They were answering my phone calls, it wasn't like they were ignoring me but they had other reasons why they couldn't come out. He did say that they'd be here around 9:00 and there were times that I called at 9:30 to find out if they were coming that day and I would like them though to call and say if they were going to be more than half an hour late and I am not having to call them just to make sure that they were going to be coming. They did everything really nice and neat and they knew what they were doing. I must admit that it was not their fault that we had thunderstorms every single day.

It was a nightmare. We are disappointed because we joined Angie’s List to do this project and it was a horrible experience. In fact, we finally paid them to go away and we are going to have to rip out to the studs the work they did and start over. They came in initially and told us they could do this project in a few days. They first came in February and gave us a bid. They were supposed start in March but they started in April. They told us it would take two weeks. It was just one nightmare after another. It was a complete remodel for a master bath with new floors and new shower, so they came in and ripped out the master shower, they cracked a plumbing pipe and they had to replace the plumbing twice. After they did that, one of the pipes was leaking so they had to re-tighten that. When they started the tiling, I noticed because I've done tiling before, so I noticed that they weren’t smooth. Before they could even finish that, we asked them to rip it out, which they did and they started all over again. The alignment was off at the corners and they decided to paint before they laid the flooring. The painter came in, did his thing and part way through, he messed his back up but the paint job was a mess. We could see the primer showing through the back and there was paint dripping down the walls. We have a vanity area, a desk and underneath the area, all he did was roll as far as they could reach, none of the edges was done. It was just a mess. We asked them to come in and repaint. Then they put the floor down and those guys scrapped up the paint job, there were sweeping arches all over the new paint. The guy that did the flooring put down the trim molding and instead of how you would angle, cut and trim when you come to an edge piece, they blunt cut all of those pieces, and I was just horrified. My dad did woodwork and from the time I was a little girl I went with my dad on jobs, and he would never have done that. When I opened the door, behind one of the doors, the pieces were just laid there, they weren’t even attached, they were just up against the wall and that was the floor guys. They started on April 8 and told us they would be done in two weeks. We were leaving on a family vacation to the Virgin Islands and they said they would have it done before we left. They were doing built-in cabinetry for us, so we gave them the keys, and when we came back from vacation, we expected this to be done because they had a week and nobody was here. When we got back, it was midnight and my husband was coming on a different flight the next day, and while coming up the stairs, there were these footprints on the carpeting all the way up the stairs, all the way to the master bathroom. The toilet was not installed yet so where the old toilet is, there is a wax ring and it turns out that someone stepped on the wax and tracked it all the way through the house and left it! Obviously, the new toilet had not been installed. They did the built-in cabinet, which was the one thing they did right except that they didn’t put the door on right, so there was a gap there and they were like, “oh it is easy to fix, all you have to do is adjust the screw”. I thought that I was paying them to adjust that screw. So we called them back to come in and the manager guy comes in and says they would take care of that and he looked at the carpets, there was some grease there and he claimed they cleaned it up and it came right back up. They put the shower in and when they put the threshold in, they did not fix it, so the water sits on the threshold. We had told them the whole reason we were doing this bathroom project was because I am allergic to molds and it was molding where the water was sitting along the edge of the shower door. Not only that, when they measured for the shower, they didn’t build the threshold in and upper so where it meets the wall there was a gap and their creative idea for that was they just slapped a clunk of grout in there. It was horrible. They did not put a corner bead on that wall so where the tile meets the corner on the wall, it is just like a drunk line and that is what your eye draws to. When we talked to them about the shower, we wanted a frameless door and we went to their showroom and signed their contract for what I understood was a frameless door. After we came back from vacation, they put in a door and it had a frame on it. I was like this is the last straw. The manager came out and looked at the threshold and he was like, “Oh yeah I can’t disagree with you, that is horrible”. With the finished tiled job, at least thirty percent of those tiles are not flushed to one another; it was not leveled. When they put the shower door on, we had only paid the first third of the payment and so they called us on a Wednesday and said they wanted the second payment, which they had not asked up until that time.

6/4/2013 - I received a text file of the initial quote. Two weeks earlier I received a few phone calls requesting an in home appointment to discuss the proposed quote. I was out of town and also reminded the appointment person that I would like a file of the proposal prior to another meeting. I few days later I received a call from one of the estimators that the numbers for the quote are not available and will be sent to me within the next 7-10 days. I received a file within the promised time frame. Unfortunately the quote was missing basic pertinent information - such as a monetary breakdown of material, man hours, even physical height, length of of proposed project or a rough drawing. The proposal scope was a basic template of what the workers would do, i.e. - remove gutters, clean area of work after completion. At the end of the proposed estimate was a cost of $45,000.00 and a spot for my signature. There was an attachment regarding the roof shingles coverage from the shingle vendor. Also an attachment that was the DA Improvement letterhead. No pictures or past work /similar work reference was included. The recommended next step would be to meet with the architect ($1500.00 fee) I sent an email regarding the proposal is minimal at best and thanked them for their time.
Description of Work: The provider came for an estimate for a sunroom type room for my house . Two gentleman - one was a computer person and one was a numbers person. They took measurements and asked what my budget was. The computer that was brought, was not working correctly & a verbal promise to provide some examples of work would be sent to my email that I provided. The estimators went into in depth detail of how the company is run and included a booklet about the company. Estimate would be provided within the week. The estimators were on time and pleasant.
